(Chapter Three: Off to the Land of the Elves)
Once they get back to the castle, Gaston and Adam gather all the things they’ll need before their journey to The Enchanted Forest.
Soon after that, they ride off on their steeds—Gaston’s white, Adam’s black—in the direction of the territory of the elves which for them will be about a week’s journey from their estate.
Everything remains relatively pleasant for the first two days.
They travel most of the day, make a few stops here and there to eat, bathe in a body of water and do other more intimate things and set up camp to rest at night.
Midway there, they send their horses away and traverse the rest of their expedition on foot.
Not long after this, while trekking through The Forest of Thorns with its barren, gnarled, thorny trees, foreboding grey mist and aura, taunting, ridiculing voices that seem to know all your deepest, darkest secrets and snakes made of shadow and glowing red eyes, they run into some ogres salivating for human flesh.
They appear to be at least ten feet tall and their breaths smell like death, even from the ground.
But instead of feeling dismayed, Gaston sees this as an opportunity to practice his newfound magical abilities.
Although he brought his magic sword and shield with him, he ends up only needing to pump them with his energy bolts before they explode and bloody pieces of ogre, are left strewn across the forest floor.
Gaston’s triumph gives Adam and he a burst of euphoric energy which prepares them for their next eventual trip through The Valley of Eternal Corpses.
In this scenario, they are forced to trudge through mountains of eternally rotting, human and animal corpses that possess the kinds of stench that singe nostril hairs.
In fact, the stench of this place is so foul and awful, it’s lethal to life.
Fortunately, they come prepared with a magic elixir concocted from Adam’s skills with crafting magic spells learned from his uncle, a powerful sorcerer, that once swallowed, shields them from harm.
Their journey through the valley ends at some point and once it does, they find themselves dying to get to some fresh water, so that they can scrub their bodies down and wash their clothes.
They end up in The Wood of Lights, a place with trees made of rainbow colored bark that have sparkling green magic, swirling around them.
These trees are said to be very sacred to The Forest Elves of Ganor and they are also immortal trees which no axe can chop down, unless that axe was forged by the elves, themselves.
Adam takes his beloved husband to one of his favorite places to bathe and relax within these woods—Firefly Hot Spring.
The prismatic waters here contain enchanted healing powers, cause any aches in the body to instantly vanish, are a strong aphrodisiac when imbibed and have iridescent fireflies which everlastingly float above them.
After stripping down to nothing, they both make sure to drink in each other’s rippling, muscular forms before they wade into the hot spring.
They take some time to get used to the feel of the water before finding a place within them where they can sit, soak and talk.
They engage in playful, easygoing banter at first before it turns more serious.
“Are you still nervous about having to confront Sersel?” Adam asks.
“Of course, I am. If he could place such a magnificent curse on me and throw me into the wall like he did with his magic, imagine what else he’s capable of,” Gaston replies.
“Well, don’t be. I have confidence in you that you’ll kick his derrière, all the way back to his mother’s womb and then some. Then under threat of annihilation, he’ll relinquish us from this heaven forsaken curse and we’ll go from there.”
Gaston smirks while shaking his head, his dubiousness evident in his eyes.
“You make it sound so easy.”
“Well, that’s because it will be.”
Adam releases a soundless chuckle.
“Why are you always so faithless about everything, Gaston?”
The corners of Gaston’s mouth, stretch up as he looks at him.
“I’m not ‘faithless.’ I’m just realistic.”
“I wonder if you’re that way in our other life.”
“Well, from how Belle described me—probably not. Honestly, I’m so afraid of becoming that person, again. Whoever, he was.”
A light ignites in Adam’s eyes.
His gaze swings Gaston’s way.
“I have an idea. Maybe we don’t have to break the curse. I’m sure Belle won’t mind staying here, after we free her. Who doesn’t want to be a heroine who comes from a long line of Dragon Slayers with magic powers?”
Gaston looks down, his face darkening.
“You know. This feeling has been haunting me for a while, now but I didn’t want to acknowledge it. If this life isn’t real, perhaps what we have isn’t real, either.”
Adam appears startled and emotionally injured, at the same time.
“Gaston! How could you!” he cries.
Gaston’s finger placed against his mouth, cuts off his words.
“Adam. Please. I don’t mean to hurt you. I know you’ve probably been thinking this, too and it’s about time we address this elephant in the room, openly and honestly.”
Adam’s mouth remains parted for a moment as he searches for something, anything to take them back to the blissful, oblivious space they were in, a minute ago.
But then he surrenders as he realizes the truth in Gaston’s words.
His fiery eyelashes fall as he exhales.
“You’re right,” he confesses.
“I’ve been having the same troubling thoughts.”
They both cease to speak as their surroundings remain captivating.
Gaston eases into his next words.
“I know it probably wasn’t the best time to bring it up—while we’re in this beautiful place, you revealed to me—it’s not that I don’t deeply feel the love I have for you, in this reality. I do. It’s just that Belle doesn’t deserve to be trapped here without love. She deserved you. I didn’t. The person I was, in that life, was obviously a monster and I can’t live with myself as I am, now, knowing I stole true love away from Belle to hand over to someone like him.”
Adam could hear the sorrow and heartfelt sincerity in Gaston’s voice.
“I understand, Gaston. And again. You’re right. But you know. I was turned into a beast in that life, too. Maybe it was because I wasn’t the best person to be with Belle, either.”
“But you must have changed. That’s why the spell was broken when she kissed you. I’m assuming I hadn’t. That’s why she chose you, in the end. Plus, she was in love with you and you were in love with her. The love I had for her was probably unrequited.”
Waves of despair overcome Adam as he realizes that he’s going to lose Gaston and all that they share, together. ‘Real’ or not. He still doesn’t want to let Gaston go.
A tear leaks from his eye before he turns to him.
He places his hand against his cheek while gazing into him.
“It’s true that we should do the right thing. But if we still savor our love, right now before it’s taken away, is that wrong?”
Gaston’s heart starts cracking as he senses the pain and desperation for hope, in Adam’s blue skies.
Gaston’s vision floats down to Adam’s succulent, pink mouth.
He lightly traces Adam’s lower lip with his thumb, making his current mate shiver.
Gaston’s face drifts closer to Adam’s until his heated breath is tickling his pillows of flesh that are so shamelessly begging for him.
“No. It isn’t,” he whispers.
Once Gaston’s mouth washes over his mate’s, he visibly melts as he sinks into his kiss, all at once.
They savor each other with the slow passion of sipping an exquisite wine.
Their tongues frolic together like two fawns in a green, blooming field, bathed in sunlight.
Gaston groans into Adam’s cavity as he starts stroking him, under the water.
Then Adam groans against him as Gaston reciprocates the action.
Gaston moves his other hand from Adam’s arm into his hair, gripping it as he pushes him deeper into him.
In response, Adam massages the back of Gaston’s brawny neck and then combs his fingers up into his loose mane before clawing his fingers into it.
By the time they’ve moved onto the shore of the spring, Gaston has taken Adam into his mouth and is devouring him as his ebbing and flowing, fragile and yearning gaze, worships him and repeatedly reminds him, that he belongs to him.
Once Adam’s locks are thrown back with his head and he’s howling to the sky, Gaston’s knees are sore but his mind is intoxicated with bliss from all that Adam gave his mouth and his senses.
Adam comes back to life as he gorges on Gaston. His voice makes Adam’s ears tingle. He also fills him so, he makes his lips hurt.
The monster of dominating, violent need clawing inside of him for release causes Adam’s eyes to take on a quality like that of a lion stalking his prey.
They taunt Gaston with promises of things to come.
His body and face are like that of an angel’s.
His eyes are like that of a devil’s.
He’s the best of both worlds.
Gaston cries out his name and Adam’s body quakes and his nipples tighten as he drowns in him.
Then with his hand clawed into his hair, he takes him from behind like a furious beast.
Gaston feels him growing and growing and every plunge back into him, tells him something new.
It tells him that his love is still determined to hold onto him. It tells him that, in this life, he deeply desires him and him, alone.
It tells him how much Adam relishes dominating him and making him moan and wail for him.
Gaston rocks into his thrusts until his hoarse throat is singing with his showering tears and he’s painting the ground in milky streaks.
Then he hears Adam releasing a long grunt and he starts feeling like he’s sitting in the spring, again.
“Do you want to go back, now—my splendid Adonis?” Adam hotly whispers against his ear.
Gaston is feeling too high right now, to respond.
Once they’re lying on the shore in each other’s arms, Gaston then addresses Adam’s question.
“You know. I never said I wanted to go back. I simply want to do the right thing.”
All he hears is silence.
“But what about what I want Gaston?” Adam finally says.
Gaston is startled by his frustrated response.
“Adam. You only want this because of where we are, right now. Once we get back to where we were meant to be, you’ll remember your love for Belle and your love for me will fade away over time or even disappear, immediately.”
Adam grows quiet, again.
He abruptly starts getting up.
Gaston can tell that he’s upset.
He tries to clasp his arm.
“Baby, wai—!”
“No!” Adam’s squeaking voice reveals his distraught state as he yanks his arm from his grip.
He rushes away with his arm against his nose as Gaston’s helpless, distressed eyes watch him leave.
