As Beth was driving home, she pulled over on the side of the rode to let a fire truck pass by her. At first she didn't pay much attention to it, but as she kept driving, she saw that the truck was going in the same direction as she was. She drove into her neighborhood and was shocked to find fire fighters and police officers surrounding her apartment building. She parked in front of the apartment next to hers and walked over to see what was going on. She was halted by a female officer before she could get any closer.
"Stand back ma'am," she told back.
"What happened?" Beth asked.
"Fire broke out on the second floor. We're investigating the cause now. If you could please stand back-"
"Wait, I live in that apartment; did any of my stuff make it?"
"What's your apartment number?"
"27."
"Name?"
"Beth."
"I'll send someone up."
"Wait, is everyone okay?"
"Everyone's fine, ma'am."
Beth nodded in acknowledging as the officer talked to someone via radio. Beth looked around and saw Duncan sitting on the curb across the street. Bet walked over and shook his hand as he stood.
"Hey," she said.
"Hey," he said back.
"So, do you know what happened?"
"I was standing out smoking a cigarette and then I heard a couple arguing upstairs. A glass bottle broke and the next thing I knew, the roof was smoking."
"Boris and Jen always argue, but I don't they'd cause the fire, even on accident."
"Hey, crazy things tend to happen when people get pissed."
The female officer walked up to Beth and said, "Ma'am?"
"Yes?" she replied.
"Just got off com with someone upstairs."
"And?"
"Everything burned in the fire; I'm so sorry."
Beth was silent as she sat on the curb and looked down at the ground. The officer then walked off as Duncan sat next to her, wrapping and arm around her.
"I really sorry about your place, Beth," he said, "if you want, you could stay at me and Gwen's."
"But, what about your dog?" Beth asked.
"Oh, right; Petey Jr. doesn't like strangers. Could you stay with Owen or Lindsay?"
"I would but Owen travels a lot and Lindsay lives too far away."
"So what are you gonna do?"
"I could rent a motel."
"Good luck trying to get sleep there though, people fuck like rabbits there."
"Then I guess I have no other choice; I might have to stay with Eva."
"Wait what? Why her? Why not you stay at a hotel? You'd get much better sleep."
"I don't have enough money to stay at a hotel. And Eva's my friend."
"That hot tempered bull with an attitude that screams "I will kill you if you look at me funny" is your friend now?"
"You're my friend, and you've been to juvy."
"Yeah, I've been to juvy, but I'm not a time bomb ready to blow at any moment."
"<sigh>Did you ever watch that movie, Giant Gordan?"
"That kids flick from a decade ago? What does that have to do with anything?"
"Don't judge someone before you get to know them. You have no idea what she's been through."
"What? Did she have parent troubles or something?"
"You just...you don't understand."
"Oh, I understand. I understand that she had a crappy childhood and decided to take her anger out on the rest of the world. And every time she throws a fit, the world calls her out on it and it makes her hate the world even more. You know what happened to Noah last month?"
"No, what?"
"Noah had the audacity to say "Your parents must really be around of you" in his typical sarcastic self just as he met her again after Total Drama got canned. For context, she was just got a job as a cashier at AllUNeeds. Anyway, right as he said that, Eva beat the mother fucking crap out of him. I'm not saying I feel bad for the dweeb, but that should give you an idea of what she's like."
"She told me about her parents."
"Wait what? You brought it up and you don't even have a scratch on you?"
"I didn't ask her about her parents, she told me."
"Huh?"
"We were playing video games and we started talking about kids. She said she didn't plan to have any and that's when I remembered what happened 2 weeks ago-"
"You mean when-"
"Please don't say it, I've already done my crying for today. Anyway, she said she knew how it felt to be heart broken and talked about what happened with her and her parents. I felt so bad for her, I had to stop my crying and give her a hug. Losing someone you loving is one thing, but when the people who are supposed to love you no matter what disown you? That's terrible in its own right, I'm surprised she's still able to carry on after that."
"...I'm not gonna lie, that's some heavy shit right there. I mean, not even my parents would stoop that low."
"Now do you understand why I consider her a friend as of this week."
"Well...you're going to talk to her about Noah, right?"
"Yes, I am."
"And if she punches you in the face?"
"I'll be fine, I promise."
"All right, I trust you. But if you need anything, you have our number."
"I have everyone's number."
"Except Heather's though."
"Of course."
Beth and Duncan got up and hugged each other before she went back to her car and started driving to Eva's house. She got there in little time and knocked on the door waiting for and answer.
"Hey," Eva said opening the door, "where's the painting?"
"Burnt to a crisp," Beth said walking inside, "along with the rest of my apartment."
"Damn, what happened?"
"A fire broke out from upstairs and everything was incinerated. Everyone's okay, but all my stuff is gone."
"So what now? Are you going to live at a friend's place for a few days?"
"Actually, I was hoping I could stay here for a while."
"...I don't have a guess room though."
"It's okay, I can sleep on the couch. And I promise I won't be a nuisance."
"Well, how long would it take for them to repair you're apartment?"
"I'll call Gene and ask."
"Gene?"
"My landlord."
"Oh."
"But before I do, I gotta ask; what happened with you and Noah?"
"I...I just..."
"Duncan said you beat him up when he mentioned your parents in a sarcastic way. I just want to hear your side of the story."
"You're right, I did beat him up when he talked about my parents that way. Of course, I got fired from that job and was in jail for 3 weeks until Harriet bailed me out and offered me a job as a Canadian Warrior."
"Is Noah okay?"
"Last time I checked he was in the hospital."
"Okay, thanks for telling me."
"You're not mad?"
"I am mad, but I honestly don't blame you. I mean, I'm not a violent person myself, but if I was in your situation and I didn't like the way Noah talked about my parents, I'd punch him in the face."
"Damn straight."
Beth then dialed Gene's phone number as Eva when into the kitchen. The phone rang for a moment but eventually Gene answered.
"What?!" he exclaimed, rudely.
"Is everything okay, Gene?" Beth asked.
"What do you think?! The top floor was destroyed, I had to cancel my date and to add insult to injury, I'm standing out here in my robe and my hair still wet!"
"I'm sorry to hear that; how long will it take to fix the apartment?"
"I need to file some paper work and after that it shouldn't take longer than 2 weeks."
"2 weeks? Are you sure?"
"YES!!!"
"You don't have to shout, Gene."
"Can you blame me? I just got done arguing with the fire department chief for not using the fire extinguisher as soon as I heard fire EVEN THOUGH I WAS IN THE FUCKING BATHROOM!!!!"
"Gene, calm down."
"You try to be calm when you're standing outside with nothing but a robe one!"
"I'll talk to you later."
Beth then hung up and dialed Lindsay's phone number.
"Oh my gosh!" Lindsay exclaimed as soon as she answered, "I just found out what happened! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Lindsay," Beth said calmly, "I wasn't even at my place when the fire broke out."
"Oh yeah, you were at Ava's house."
"Eva."
"Right; so what happened?"
"From what I heard, Boris and Jen got into another argument and the first started after a bottle was thrown."
"Did you recover any of your stuff?"
"All my stuff got burned to a crisp."
"Everything?"
"Except for the sketch book in my car and my uniform."
"Oh, so now what are you going to do?"
"I'm gonna stay at Eva's for a couple weeks until they fix things up."
"Why can't you stay with me and Tyler?"
"I'd love to, but you live to far away. Sorry."
"Oh, it's fine, I understand."
"Okay, well I'm gonna have some dinner with Eva."
"'Kay, talk to you later."
"Bye."
"Bye."
After Beth hung up, she looked up and saw smoke covering the ceiling. She followed the smoke to the kitchen and saw Eva at the stove burning something on the frying pan.
"So, what's for dinner?" Beth asked.
"Potato pancakes and spinach," Eva replied as she turned the stove off.
"<cough> I think we should open a window."
"I was-" *coughs* "-thinking the same thing."
Beth opened the window above the sink, letting the smoke escape the kitchen.
"Is this your first time cooking?" Beth asked.
"Honestly..." Eva began, rubbing her arm, "yeah. I usually order out, but I wanted to make you dinner. You know...after what you've been through and all."
"Aww, thanks Eva. That really means a lot."
"Well, you know...that's what...friends are for."
Beth then smiled and gave Eva a hug. Eva hugged her back and held each other for a moment before releasing.
"You hug alot," Eva said.
"That's what friends do," Beth said, "it shows that you care."
"So, you want to order pizza or something."
"Actually, I was thinking I'd show you how to make potato pancakes without turning them into hockey pucks."
"Really?"
"Yeah, this will be fun, trust me."
"Okay, I'm game."
"Great! So, let's start by putting the burnt potato into the garbage."
"Beth picked up the pan and tossed the burnt potato in the trash can before washing the pan in the sink. After drying it off, she place it on the stove before taking out some potatoes and putting them on the counter.
"Do you have a potato peeler?" Beth asked.
"Uhhh..." Eva began.
"It's fine if you don't, we'll just use knives."
"Okay."
Eva opened the drawer next to the stove and took out two knives. She handed one to Beth and gazed as she started peeling a potato slowly but effectively.
"Be sure you do it nice and slow," Beth said, "so you don't cut yourself."
"Okay," Eva acknowledged as she began peeling.
Eva was much slower than Beth while peeling her potato. By the time Beth started peeling another potato, Eva was only halfway done with hers.
"Try holding the potato with your fingers," Beth suggested, "that way you won't have to worry about getting cut."
Eva followed her suggestion and started peeling at a much better place then before. Beth finished her second potato just as Eva started peeling another. Beth then took a bowl and placed it on the counter.
"What's the bowl for?" Eva asked.
"To make potato pancakes," Beth said, taking two eggs from the fridge.
"I thought you just flatten them and throw them on the pan."
"You could do it that way, but they wouldn't taste as good."
"Really?"
"Truly."
Beth then cracked the eggs into the bowl and threw the shells in the trash. She then took a whisk from the drawer and started beating them.
"Now," Beth said as she finished whisking the eggs, "I need some flour, vegetable oil, and a stick of butter."
"Sure thing," Eva said as she finished peeling her potato.
Eva grabbed the flour from the other side of the sink as well as the vegetable oil and handed them to Beth. Eva then took a stick of butter out of the freezer and placed it on the counter.
"Okay," Beth said, "now we need a big bowl."
"Got it," Eva acknowledged.
Eva took a bowl the size of her head out of the cabinet and set it on the counter.
"Alright," Beth began, "first we put the potatoes and onion in the bowl and press down on them."
"Simple enough," Eva said.
Beth and Eva then put the potatoes and onion in the bowl and pressed down on them. They smiled at each other as they turned the potatoes into a mushy mixture.
"Now we take two spoonfuls of flour," Beth said, "and add them to the eggs before mixing that with the potatoes."
"I can do this part," Eva said.
"Great, I'll beat the oil and putter on the pan."
Beth motioned her way to the stove and turned the knob for the bottom left heater to medium. She then placed the oil and butter on the pan as Eva mixed the eggs and flour with the potato batter.
"While the pan's heating up," Beth said, "why don't we heat up some spinach?"
"I already put some in the microwave," Eva said.
"Really? Then they should be done by now."
Beth turned to the microwave at the end of the counter and saw a plate of spinach heating up inside. The microwave made a ding sound as it finished heating up the spinach. When Beth opened the microwave, her eyes widened as she saw the spinach charred and blackish and smelled burnt.
"How long was it in there?" Beth asked.
"5 minutes," Eva said, "that's how long you're supposed to cook it, right?"
Beth looked at the model sticker on the side of the microwave and said, "Eva, this microwave is an old model that was recalled last year."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm saying this type of microwave overcooked the spinach. Where did you get this?"
"It was the cheapest one they had at Sal's."
"That used appliance store across the street from my job?"
"Yeah?"
"...It's fine, we'll just use the stove. You got another can of spinach?"
"I got like 20."
Beth giggled for a moment as she took out a pot and put it next to the pan, which was already steaming.
"What's so funny?" Eva asked.
"I was just thinking," Beth said, turning the knob to the bottom right heater on, "with all that spinach, you must want to be as strong as that old cartoon sailor."
"I used to watch him all the time as a kid. As soon as he ate spinach, he wastes no time before kicking serious ass."
"Did you watch that one episode whrere punches that guy into a statue?"
"That one cracked me up!"
They shared a laugh before continuing with making dinner. Beth showed Eva the proper amount of potato mixture to place on the pan. She also showed her how to make spinach using a pot and how by adding some salt makes it even better. Once done, they served themselves and sat at the table, eating their food with gusto.
"So, what did the painting look like?" Eva asked.
"Well," Beth began, "it was actually a simple painting that...wait a minute, I still have the sketch in my car."
"You do?"
"Yeah, I'll be right back."
Beth then raced out to her car and swiped the sketch book from the back seat before running back to the kitchen. She flipped through the pages and found the sketch the painting was based on.
"This is the one," Beth said as she showed it to Eva, "it would've looked much better with color, trust me."
The painting was of her hugging a little girl that looked just like her, crying over her shoulder. Behind them were lockers, as if to depict them at school.
"...Is that little girl...supposed to be...me?" Eva asked.
"That's supposed to be you when you were younger," Beth said, "I was thinking you needed a hug back than and who better to give you a hug than you."
"But why me?"
"Because you're a good person and you don't like seeing people cry; at least, not anymore."
"...I think you should be the one hugging me in this picture."
"Really?"
"I wouldn't be a better person if it weren't for you."
"Aww, thanks Eva."
"No-" *stands up* "-thank you."
Eva then leaned into Beth's face and kissed her. Beth was very surprised and wanted to pull away; but because she didn't want to ruin this moment, she just let it happen. Eva then released and they were silent for a moment, blushing at one another.
"First kiss?" Beth asked.
"Did I fuck up?" Eva asked, surprised.
"No, actually that was very good."
"Really?"
"Yeah, and I've never kissed a girl before."
"Your kidding."
"No, I'm serious."
Beth and Eva then finished dinner and went to the living room to play some video games again. After a few hour of gameplay, Beth started to get tired, as did Eva.
"I should probably hit the sack, now," Eva said.
"Ditto," Beth said with a yawn.
"So, you still want to sleep on the couch or..."
"I'm fine on the couch, thanks."
"Okay, good night."
"Good night."
Eva then went upstairs to her room as Beth laid down on the couch and doze off. As she slept, she dreamt she was with Eva in a shower. They were both completely naked as they were kissing and caressing each other while water rained down on them.
They then looked and smiled at each other before Eva grabbed Beth's crotch and starting fingering her. Beth moaned as held on to Eva, who was kissing her tenderly on the neck. Beth cooed as Eva jammed her fingers inside her. Each passing second was more intense and Beth's moans started to get louder.
It then got to the point where she was reaching orgasm. Her body got hot even with the cool water raining down on her. She began to quiver moan even louder then before. Eva smiled as she pressed down on her clit and gave Beth a powerful orgasm.
Beth then woke up to the sound of a blender being turned on. Her heart started racing as she was spooked by the sudden sound. She then got up and stepped into the kitchen to find Eva using the blender while listening to music. She then turned the blender off and poured a green mixture into a cup before turning to Beth.
"Oh, hey," Eva said, taking an ear bud out, "you're awake."
"Now I am," Beth said, yawning, "what's that?"
"Breakfast; want some?"
"...Okay?"
Eva poured Beth a cup and handed it to her. Beth took a sip of the mixture and cringed as she held it in her mouth for a second before spitting it back in the cup.
"Ugh," she said, disgusted, "what's in this?"
"Essential nutrients," Eva said upon swallowing, "spinach, raw eggs, orange skin, banana, broccoli and Beast Mode shot."
"Beast Mode?"
"Yeah, an energy drink."
"And you blended all that together? How do you drink that stuff?"
"Pretty easily actually; you get used to it after a while."
"Thanks, but I think I'll cook my breakfast instead."
"Alright, I'll be in the living room watching a movie."
Beth then took out some eggs and turned the bottom left burner on before placing a pan on top of it. Beth cracked the eggs in a bowl and whisk them with a fork before adding tabasco sauce for flavor. She then poured the batter onto the pan and cooked her eggs before putting them on a plate. As Beth was eating her eggs on the table, Eva came back and took Beth's cup of the blended mixture.
"You're not going to finish this, are you?" Eva asked.
"Not really," Beth said after she swallowed.
"Alright-" *takes a sip* "-by the way, you moaned a lot last night."
Beth almost choked on her eggs when Eva said that. She spat out the eggs onto the plate before wiping her face with her arm.
"What did you say?" Beth asked.
"You were moaning like a porn star last night," Eva said, "must've been a pretty exciting wet dream you had.
Beth then looked down at her food and placed her hands behind her head as she groaned.
"Oh, sorry," Eva quickly said, "I didn't mean to embarrass you."
"It's fine," Beth said, still looking down, "I'm not embarrassed because you said it, I'm embarrassed because it happened."
"Why are you embarrassed? Everyone has a wet dream now and again."
"Well this dream just so happened to have..."
Beth kept silent for a moment before Eva asked, "What? Have what?"
Beth still said nothing.
"You said I can tell you anything; doesn't that mean you can tell me anything too?"
"...You were in the dream."
Both of them were silent before Eva took a sip of the mixture.
"Ummm..." Eva began, "Okay?"
"What do you mean "okay?"" Beth asked, "I've never had a wet dream involving any of my friends. This feels so weird and awkward."
"Hey, chill Beth. It was just a dream."
"Didn't you hear me say YOU were in it?"
"Yes; but dreams don't mean shit. I mean, so what if I was in your wet dream. That doesn't mean you want to sleep with me, right?"
"I don't think so, no."
"Alright then. So, what time do you have to be to work?"
"11:00; what time is it now?"
"10:30."
"What?!"
Beth then jumped out of her seat and ran to her car to pull out her uniform. She then ran back inside and raced upstairs to the bathroom to change.
"Sorry!" Eva called, "I should've woken you up earlier if I knew you had to be to work at 11:00!"
"It's not your fault!" Beth called back, "I should've set my alarm on my phone!"
Beth then ran downstairs and raced to her car while quickly saying good bye to Eva. She started the engine and drove to work as fast as she could without speeding or running a red light. She made it to work with just a minute to spare and began doing her job just as lunch hour rolled in.
About 30 minutes into her shift, Beth saw Eva step into the restaurant. Eva just looked around before she saw Beth waving at her.
"Hey," Beth said as Eva approached the counter, "I didn't expect to see you hear."
"I didn't expect to be here," Eva said.
"So are you hear to order? We're really busy this time of day, so could you please hurry?"
"Actually, I was gonna give you a ticket for the show to night."
Eva pulls a ticket from her pocket and hands it to Beth.
"I figured," Eva continued, "since you never got the time to purchase another ticket, I might as well-"
"Excuse me," a lady from behind Eva objected, "are you going to order or what?"
Eva clenched her fists before Beth told her, "Just have a seat, Eva. My breaks in an hour, we'll talk then."
Eva puffed through her nostrils as she stormed to the back of the restaurant. An hour passed, and Beth came as quickly as she could to Eva's seat with her lunch in hand.
"Sorry, Eva," Beth said, sitting down, "like I said, this place gets very busy around lunch time and most people aren't very patient."
"Probably should've asked Harriet to put you on VIP," Eva said, staring out the window, "no ticket necessary. Just $200 a month."
"I don't have enough money for VIP. I'm already paying for school, my apartment and my membership at the gym."
"Where've you been though? I haven't seen you at the gym in a few days."
"This week's been pretty hectic, I just haven't had the time."
"Can't argue with that. So, what are you doing after work?"
"I'm going to the mall and buying new clothes as well as art supplies."
"That's probably going to be a lot of stuff. Mind if I help?"
"That'd be great, but don't you have to get ready for tonight?"
"What time do you get off work?"
"3 o'clock."
"Yeah, I'd be giving interviews by then."
"Well it was nice of you to offer to help."
"Welp, if you need anything-" *pulls out card, gives to Beth* "-tell Harriet you want to talk."
"I will, thanks."
Eva then got up and walked out of the restaurant as Beth began eating her lunch. Once she finished her break, she went back to work. After her shift ended and she received her check for the week, she drove to the bank and then to the mall. She spent about 2 hours buying clothes and art supplies, before hauling them all to her car. Once they were all in her car, she drove back to Eva's to drop them all off.
She carried the stuff to the front door, where she saw a note from Eva on the knob. "Key on frame," it read.
Beth put her stuff down and jumped with all her might to grab the key off the door frame. After grabbing the key, she unlocked the door and hauled her stuff into the living room. She placed all the bags in front of the couch for now, planning on sorting them out when Eva gets back.
Beth then made some beans and rice for dinner and turned the tv own to watch something. After clicking through the channels for half a minute, she stopped at a rerun of a movie she remembered watching with Lindsay a while back. She finished her a quarter of the way into the flick and continued watching until the very end.
She then checked the time on the tv: 7:13. She decided to head to the arena early before the line got too long. She got up and got into her car after locking the door behind her and placing the key back on the frame. However, just before she started the engine, her phone rang in her pocket.
"Hello?" Beth said upon answering.
"Hey Beth," Tyler said, "it's Tyler."
"Hey Tyler, how are you?"
"To be honest, not so good."
"Why? What's wrong?"
"It's Lindsay...she got into an accident and...now...Beth, she in the emergency room."
"...Are you in the waiting room?"
"Yeah."
"I'm on my way."
Beth immediately hung the phone up and drove to the hospital, which was a great distance from her neighborhood. After parking, she ran into the hospital and stopped at the front desk.
"Hi," Beth said to the receptionist, "I'm here for Lindsay."
"The Lindsay that crashed into a tree?" the receptionist asked.
"<gasp> Oh no."
"Are you a close friend and/or relative of Lindsay?"
"Yes, she's my best friend."
"Alright, please have a seat in the waiting room."
Beth then rushed into the waiting room, where she saw Tyler tapping his foot. As soon as he saw Beth, though, he stood up and hugged her.
"Glad you could make it," Tyler said.
"How is she?" she asked.
"Not good, doc says she broke her legs."
"<gasp> Oh my gosh! What happened?"
"Last I checked she was on her way to a shoot, then I get a phone call from her saying she hit a tree. Her voice was weak though, as if part of her body was in pain."
Beth's eye's started to water before Tyler brought her close and hugged her. She cried in his chest for a few moments before Bridgette and Geoff entered the waiting room.
"Hey Geoff," Tyler greeted as they gripped hands.
"Hey, dude," Geoff said, "really sorry about what happened to Lindsay, man."
"Me too," Bridgette said, "I hope she's okay."
Bridgette then sat next to Beth and said, "Hey Beth, long time no see."
"Hey," Beth said, wiping her face.
"What's up Beth?" Geoff asked upon hugging her.
"Fine up until now; how have you guys been?"
"We've been good. Just bought a house by the beach side."
"Awesome."
"Hey," Bridgette said, rubbing Beth's back, "don't worry, Lindsay will pull through. You'll see."
"Thanks Bridgette."
"Did everyone else get the message?" Geoff asked Tyler.
"Yeah," he replied, "they should be here soon."
Just then, a woman in a zebra suit came in and gave Tyler a hug as soon she saw him.
"How is she?" she asked.
"Not great," he replied, "docs are fixing her up right now."
"I just hope she makes a speedy recovery after this, we have plans and they don't involve her being broken in 20 places."
She then looked at everyone else and said, "I'm assuming you're all friends of my client."
"You assume correctly," Bridgette said, "Ms...."
"Carly Bucket-" *shakes Bridgette's hand* "-modeling agent."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Bridgette."
"Geoff," Geoff said shaking Carly's hand.
"I'm Beth," Beth said, shaking Carly's hand.
"Charmed," Carly said.
A female doctor came out of the emergency room and everyone stood up in attention.
"How is she doc?" Tyler asked.
"We just started the operation," the doctor said.
"How bad is it?" Beth asked.
"Both her legs were fractured severely and she had many cuts and scrapes on her body, but no major arteries were severed."
"Is she going to be okay?"
"Once the operation is done, she'll be just fine."
As the doctor went back in the emergency room, Owen and Izzy walked into the waiting room and embraced everybody.
"How is she?" Owen asked.
"They're working on her now, bro," Tyler replied.
"I can't believe Lindsay got into a car accident," Izzy said, "I mean, of all people."
"I know," Bridgette concurred.
Owen and Izzy sat together across from Tyler and everyone began talking about the latest trend. After a few minutes of chatter, Gwen and Duncan finally showed up, embracing everyone upon arrival.
"Sorry we're late," Gwen said, "we got pulled over by a cop."
"Really?" Beth asked, "Why?"
"Busted tail light," Duncan replied, "no biggie."
"Don't forget about that red light you ran," Gwen said, sitting across from Beth.
"It was SO yellow when drove passed it."
"And yet the cop still gave us a ticket for "running a red light.""
"Guys," Tyler said holding his phone, "Cody just texted me. "Sorry to hear, wish I was with you guys. Tell Lindsay I hope she gets better.""
"Bummer," Geoff said, "would've been nice to have Cody here."
"Yeah, but hey, at least he's here in spirit."
"True that, dude."
As they continued talking, Beth checked the time on her phone: 8:27. Beth's eye's widened in shock as she realized the match had started along time ago and she forgot to let Eva know she wouldn't make it.
"Excuse me guys," Beth said getting up, "I need to make a quick phone call."
"Okay," Geoff said.
Beth then took out the card Eva gave her and dialed the number as she walked over to the other side of the room.
"Hello?" Harriet said immediately after the first ring.
"Hi, Harriet?" Beth said, "It's me Beth. I need to talk to Eva."
"Alright, but for future references, I am not an operator. This phone is for business and family only."
"I understand, sorry."
"Don't worry about it; one moment please."
After about a minute, Eva picked up the phone and said, "Hey Beth."
"Hi Eva, really sorry I couldn't make it. Something urgent came up."
"Really, what happened?"
"Lindsay got into a car accident. We're all in the waiting room to see if she's going to be okay."
""We?""
"Yeah, Geoff, Bridgette, Owen, Izzy, Gwen and Duncan came after Tyler called them. Cody couldn't make it, but he sends his love and support in spirit."
"...So, Lindsay got into a car accident."
"Yeah, she did."
"Okay, hopefully she doesn't get paralyzed."
"So, how was the match?"
"Brutal, but at least I get paid in the end."
"Did you win?"
"No, but this time I shook her hand."
"That's great."
"So, when are you coming home?"
"Just as soon as I see Lindsay."
"So, later tonight?"
"Or sooner depending on how long it takes."
"...I'll see you later then."
"'Kay bye."
"Bye."
Beth then hung up and turned to face her friends.
"That was Eva on the phone," Bridgette began, straight faced, "wasn't it?"
"I know how you feel Bridgette," Beth said, sitting next to her, "but trust me, she's not that bad once you get to know her."
"Really? I wouldn't know because I don't know her apart from the fact that she's hot tempered."
"Yeah," Geoff concurred, "when she gets mad, that's not a pleasant sight, to be honest."
"She was only like that because she was bullied growing up," Beth said.
"I get that Beth," Bridgette said, "I really do. But her actions seem to imply a different story. Like something set her off a long time ago and she never recovered from that."
"I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. She's actually a nice person."
"Example?" Geoff asked.
"She's letting me stay at her place while my apartment is being fixed."
"Wait? What?" Bridgette asked.
"Yeah," Duncan said, "the whole top floor caught on fire before fire fighters put it out."
"Gee, Beth," Owen said, "I'm really sorry about that."
"It's fine Owen," Beth said.
"Hold on," Bridgette said, "Eva let you stay at her place."
"Yes, she did. That's what friends are for."
"I'm confused, how long have you to been friends?"
"Since a few days ago."
"Huh?"
"Long story, short; she lost a bet and stayed at my house for a night."
"And you were able to make her nice just like that?"
"It's a work in progress, and so far I've seen a lot of progress."
"I honestly never thought Eva could be nice to even 1 person."
"All I did was stand my ground when she let her temper make her flip my couch."
"Woah," Geoff objected, "seriously? And she didn't pound you to pieces?"
"No."
The doctor then came out of the emergency room and everyone stood up in attention.
"How'd it go, doc?" Tyler asked.
"The operation was a success," she replied.
"Really?"
"Yes, very much so."
"Will she be staying the night?" Carly asked.
"I believe so."
"I want to see her," Tyler said.
"I'll allow you all to see her; just follow me."
They all followed the doctor into the emergency room and into the room where Lindsay was. She was hooked up to a medical bed covered in bandages and wires connected to a machine that measured her heart rate. Lindsay smiled the best she could as upon seeing everybody.
"Hi guys," she said, holding Tyler's hand.
"Hey, babe," he said.
"Glad to see you're okay," Beth said.
"Hey Beth," Lindsay said, "weren't you supposed to be with Ava."
"I'm here for you, Lindsay."
"Thanks Beth, that means a lot-" *looks at Gwen and Duncan* "-Hey Gwen, Duncan. How are things?"
"Great," Gwen said, "thanks."
"Never better," Duncan said.
"Owen," Lindsay said, noticing him, "weren't you supposed to be in Michigan?"
"Had to reschedule," he said, "I wanted to make sure you were alright."
"And wherever Owen goes," Izzy added, hugging him, "I go."
"And Bridgette and Geoff," Lindsay said, seeing them, "where've you guys been I haven't seen you since Beth got-"
Lindsay stopped talking when Gwen coughed loudly and shook her head at her.
"Oops," Lindsay then said, "I forgot never to bring it up. Sorry."
"No problem," Geoff said, "anyway, Bridge and I bought a house and were spending most of our time moving and stuff."
"We were also working," Bridgette added, "so we didn't have time to talk via social media."
"Hey Carly," Lindsay said, spotting her as she approached her.
"Hey Lindsay," Cary said, "they producers send their support in the form of a gift basket."
"Really? Where is it?"
"...Fuck! I left it in my car. BRB."
As Carly ran out of the room, the doctor came over to Lindsay's side and said, "Hello."
"Hi," Lindsay said, before reading her name tag, "Dr. Mercedes Jackson?"
"<giggles> As I told you, it's Dr. Mercy."
"Oh, right."
"Anyway, your parents will be here in the morning to check on you. I just got off the phone with them."
"Wait," Beth said, "Lindsay, where are your parents?"
"They took a vacation to Africa," Lindsay said, "didn't I tell you?"
"No."
"Huh, I thought I did."
Carly then came racing back with the gift basket in her hands and placed it on the table next to Lindsay. They then continued to talk before Dr. Mercy announced that Lindsay needed her rest and her friends should head home. One by one her friends left until Beth and Tyler were the last ones to leave. They bid Lindsay farewell and went home, bringing the night at the hospital to a close.
