Friends
You can’t have too many real friends. It’s amazing what friends will do to help one another.
"Good morning, Fire Lord Zuko."
"Good morning, uncle."
"You look refreshed."
"I had a great night's sleep. It was the best sleep I had in awhile". Zuko took a sip of tea. "No Azula", mumbled Zuko into his teacup.
"What?"
"Nothing, just commenting on the delicious tea."
"Really, I thought it tasted a little too strong. Saikura did not make the tea this morning. She makes a delightful tea." Iroh saw Zuko grimace. "Is something wrong Zuko?'
"No, I just forgot about an appointment, but it's okay." Zuko forgot he and Saikura had a play date scheduled last night. Zuko fell asleep before she came by. He told himself that Saikura would understand. She was an understanding person unlike his sister. "I am not going to think about Azula." Zuko put emphasis on Azula.
"What about Azula?"
"I don't want to talk about Azula." Zuko looked up. His demeanor changed.
"OK, we don't have to talk about Azula." Aang greeted his friend with a smile.
"Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, it's so good to see you guys." Zuko greeted his friends with hugs and pats on the back.
"I'm glad you decided to join the facial hair club", Sokka stroked his tiny goatee.
"I'm going for a new look." Zuko rubbed his unshaven jawline.
"Me, too", Aang rubbed the fuzz under his chin, "I'll have a nice beard for the wedding. "
"I don't care what anyone says you guys look great with facial hair." Toph gave them a thumb up.
"Thanks Toph', commented Sokka. He, Aang, and Zuko smiled. Soon the smiles fell from their faces. Sokka frowned. "Toph why do you always do that?"
Aang turned to his fiancée. "What do you think Katara? "
"I think you'd be handsome with a beard." She gave Aang a quick kiss.
"Katara, what about me and Zuko?"
"You're great guys, I wouldn't see you guys any differently."
"Me either", added Toph. She plopped down at the table. "Zuko, what's the big emergency?"
"I need a favor.” Zuko turned to Aang, “Aang, I need to talk to Avatar Roku."
"Zuko, you know I can't". Aang's head dropped," I can't communicate with Roku*."
"Please Aang, you have to try, the fate of Fire Nation and our plan for peace depends on Roku. I think he is the key for forming a place where all the nations can come together."
"What makes you believe he has the answers?"
"He was the last great fire bender everyone believed in and trusted".
"That maybe true, but Ruko, believed the nations should remain separate".
"Master Sisko told me Avatar Ruko has all the answers. Something in my gut is telling me he's right."
"Who is Master Sisko?"
"He's my old calligraphy teacher," answered Iroh.
"Wait you want Aang to contact Ruko because of a calligraphy teacher."
"Sokka, I know it sounds strange but I think he's right. Master Sisko is 122 years old. He knew Avatar Ruko".
Iroh stood. "Master Sisko was born on Ruko's Island. He is the last known fire bender learn from watching Avatar Ruko. During my calligraphy lessons he'd tell me stories about how Avatar Ruko would demonstrate his technique. It is possible Master Sisko learned more than just fire bending from Avatar Ruko."
"Zuko, did Master Sisko say Avatar Ruko knew how to create a unified land?”
"No, Katara, he just told me Avatar Ruko had the answers to my problems."
"Maybe he was referring to the Fire Nation and maintaining peace between the nations. Aang you should speak to Master Sisko first."
"Katara, if you think I should meet with him I will." Aang turned to Zuko. "Zuko, I need to speak to Master Sisko."

Hearth Island
"It's time for a session, Azula, it's been to long." Miso settled into is fighting stance. "I'll talk about my brother if you'll talk about yours."
"Miso, you want to talk about Zuko that bad. Well than lets talk".
Azula kicked. Miso moved just in time. He punched and she countered. Their little dance went on for a few minutes. Miso moves were fluid. Azula's moves were sharp. Azula landed a punch to Miso's midsection.
He backed away. "I told you before my older brother was a bending prodigy. You and him have that same drive to be perfect."
He punched, but Azula read his move. She knocked his hand away blocking the punch. Miso grabbed Azula's fist as she punched. They broke apart.
"Zuko was not a bending prodigy. He was the same dum-dum he is now with less fire bending talent.”
"Dum-dum, huh, you really are like my brother. He'd call people dummy, idiot, etc. I didn't matter if they were family or not. However, if it were family he'd joke around afterwards. He wasn't serious about it at least with family. Is that how it is with you and Zuko?"
"You know the rules." Azula attack Miso with a combo of kicks and punches. Miso blocked all but one. Azula smirked.
Miso backed away. He rubbed his sore jaw. "I have a nickname for my brother, too. We'd called him Yaki. Yakitori was a little difficult for me and my."
Miso kicked. Azula barely dodged his long leg. He continued to go after her. His pouches were faster. Miso forced Azula to move backward.
"Miso you're more determined than usual. Is this about your sister?"
Miso hesitated for a second. Azula punched him in his shoulder. Miso backed away.
"This is about brothers not sisters. " He went after Azula in a full on attack. His attack was fluid yet powerful. Azula could barely block his attack. Miso was pushing her back.
"If I'd know talking about your sister would have this effect I would've brought her up months ago. I doubt she's like my sister, well half-sister**."
Miso paused for a moment to take in Azula's news of a sister. Azula landed a hard punch to Miso's stomach. He doubled over. "That makes three hits in a row, you win, Azula." He grabbed his stomach. "You remind me so much of my sister". A half smirk crossed his face. "In a way you remind me of Yakitori and Soba. She would've done exactly what you did, and quickly took advantage of my opening. She could be quite ruthless when it came to fighting. That's one of the reasons I like you, Azula. I never feel alone as long as you're on this island. I am glad fate has caused our paths to cross. "

Master Sisko entered Zuko's throne room. The old man started to shake as his foot slid backwards. "I'm honored to be in your presence Fire Lord Zuko." The old man turned his head slightly in Katara's and Toph's direction. "Young ladies am I bowing?"
"There is no need to bow, Master Sisko,' Zuko walked over the him, "I just need you to speak to Avatar Aang about Avatar Ruko."
The old man squinted. "Which one is Avatar Aang?"
"I'm Avatar Aang."
"Avatar Aang, it is honor to teach you calligraphy. I just need to get my brushes and we can get started."
"He's not here for calligraphy lessons. He needs to know what you meant about Avatar Ruko having the answers."
"Avatar Ruko, hmm, let me think about that," Master Sisko closed his eyes. A minute later he started snoring.
"Zuko, you believe him."
"Aang, something is telling me, Master Sisko is right."
"He's probably just confused. I am not sure what he knows about Ruko"
"Avatar Ruko has all the answers. He's seen the Stone of 12. It holds the future of the Fire Nation and other nations because it holds the past of the four nations." Sisko returned to snoring.
"Master Sisko, what do you mean the Stone of 12?"
His eyes opened. "Fire Lord Zuko, Avatar Aang, did I wonder into the wrong room? I was looking for General Iroh. He said we were going to have tea today. "
"I'm here Master Sisko." Iroh and Sisko exchanged smiles.
"Master Sisko, you're in the right room. Tell us about the Stone of 12."
"I, I, don't remember much about it. I heard it was destroyed. It was important to the Fire Nation for some reason. I don’t remember anything else about it.”
“Are you sure?”
The old man scratched his temple. “No that’s it. I am sorry I could not be of more service to you, Fire Lord Zuko."
“Uncle do you know what he’s talking about?”
“No, but I do know my grandfather was upset that Avatar Roku would not share all his secrets. Maybe the Stone of 12 was one of those secrets.” Iroh placed his hand on Sisko’s shoulder. "Lets go found some decent tea." Iroh escorted his old calligraphy teacher out of the room.
"Aang, you heard Master Sisko it holds the future for the Fire Nation and the past of the four nations. The stone has been destroyed. Avatar Roku is the only knows what it says. Will you try, Aang?"
"What if he just some crazy old man?"
"Aang", Katara placed her hand his shoulder, "he maybe some crazy guy, but he may not. Maybe we can't have peaceful future because we do not fully understand the past. If the Stone of 12 holds the past of all four nations it could be the key to us understanding each other. "
"Katara, what if I can't reach Ruko?"
"All you can do is try. I have a feeling Ruko wants to connect with you as much as you want to reach him."
"OK, I'll do it." He sat down.
"Thank you Aang", Zuko handed Aang the crown Ruko once wore.
Aang could feel Ruko's presence. He closed his eyes. His mind filled with thoughts of Ruko. Soon he was in the spirit world.
Ruko took over Aang's body. "What is the meaning of this?"
Zuko bowed before Ruko. "Avatar Ruko, I need your help. The Fire Nation needs your help. The world needs your help. Please tell me where I can find the Stone of 12."
"Fire Lord Zuko why do you seek the Stone of 12?"
"Master Toru Sisko says that it has the answers solve all our problems."
"Toru is still alive that is surprising. His mouth tended to get him into a lot trouble. What is more surprising is he knows of the Stone of 12. What did he tell you about the Stone of 12?”
"Nothing other than it held the answers that I need".
"Young fire lord the Stone of 12 was broken into pieces 100s of years ago." Roku read the shock and despair on Zuko's face. "Did you hope to gain power with the stone?"
"No, I hope to gain peace."
“Peace you say, are you willing to pay the price for peace?”
“I am”.
"I see." Ruku left Aang's body and entered the spirit world to find Aang. His dragon, Fang, found Aang for him. The dragon brought Aang to Roku. "Aang there isn't much time I need to tell you about the Stone of 12. The Stone of 12 will lead you to secrets of all four nations. The stone was once entrusted to the avatar, but it was decided, long before I became that the avatar, the avatar would be taught those secrets from the chosen masters of each element. Soon even the masters forgot those secrets. I will let you decide if Fire Lord Zuko is worthy to know what is on the Stone of 12. Aang all the nations must agree that the secrets shall be shared again. The stone was destroyed, but a scroll containing most of what was carved into the stone exists. The scroll should've been given to the Air Nomads upon my death just as the fire sages were given it upon Kyoshi's death. I left the scroll in the care of Fire Sage Kaja." Roku and the spirit world started to fade.
"Roku"
"It was good to see you, Aang".
“Roku,” Aang reached out his hand. Roku and Fang faded away. Aang opened his eyes. Everyone was staring at him. Katara placed her hand on his shoulder and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I am fine. We need to see Fire Sage Shyu."
