The winter wind whipped around them as a master would use a whip on an untamable beast. The army of the Dragon Prince galloped onward without feeling the affects of the cold or the freezing wind.
How could this be? They should be seeking shelter before the storm unleashed its full fury.
Katara felt the powerful arms of the Dragon Prince squeeze her sides as he held the reigns to the beast and she trembled.
Where was he taking her?
Images of her dead family’s body came into her mind and she shut her eyes tightly trying to stop the tears and erase the images and the sounds of their torment. A small sound escaped her.
Zuko placed the reigns of the beast into his left hand and wrapped his right arm around her shaking body. He lowered his cheek to the top of her head and saw the memory she held of the slaughter of her family. They had made her watch and listen to their deaths. She would not carry this torment much longer.
He moved his head beside her right shoulder and spoke into her hair but not of what she was thinking.
“Do not fear the storm will never touch us.” His voice was clear and deep even over the howling sound of the wind. She felt his lips touch her ear and a tingling enveloped her body. Katara exhaled a breath of air and her head fell back onto his chest as his power ran through her body.
The old ones would say that when one was close to the Dragon Prince and he touched them, they would feel but a tingle of his power. For if, they felt the entire force they would surely die.
It was now that she heard the sound of a fire burning actually roaring above them. Katara lifted her head and gasped seeing the blanket of fire covering the entire army and the beasts. It flowed from the Prince like a cape.
Zhao came forward when his Prince beckoned him. “We will make camp there beside the rocks and allow her to rest.”
“I wish to return to my home.” Her voice was small but determined.
“There is danger for you at your village. The one who wants you will continue to attack if you are there.”
Katara lowered her head knowing he was right. The beast stopped walking and Katara felt his body move away from her as he got down from the saddle. She watched him walked into the raging storm. The smoke rose from his body as the snow melted as it struck the dragon scales. He slowly raised his hands and a shelter made of the hard earth sprang up between the rocks.
Her breath chilled on the frozen wind as she gazed in amazement at the Firebender moving earth. The rest of the army moved past her on their mounts and inside the massive structure.
The beast she rode upon kneeled down onto the snow as Zuko approached. He held out his hand for her. Just the touch of her skin on his sent shockwaves of heat throughout her body. She almost fell onto his chest but his strength slowly helped her down to the snow.
“Thank you for saving my village.” She spoke with her head down.
Zuko felt her shaking and not from the cold. The memory of her family’s death invaded her thoughts again. His warm hand lifted her chin as fresh tears rolled down from under her closed eyelids.
He gathered her closer to his warm frame and his free hand twined into her thick hair.
“No more of these thoughts shall you have of them. You shall remember them as they were before the Horde came. You shall know of their deaths but shall not see it. Their light shall burn on Mount Hon forever.”
Katara’s eyes slowly opened as he lowered his head towards hers. His lips at first gently touched hers and then became more forceful as she responded to him. Heat invaded her body and made her weak and he held her tighter. His heat made her mind feel as if it were in a fog. She whimpered against his lips and clung to him by digging her nails into the dragon scales on his biceps as his lips parted from hers only to return just as fierce as before. His grip in her hair tightened and his lust to have her grew stronger by the minute. Zuko felt invincible. The dragon was near.
Tremendous winds suddenly surround them and a deafening roar that should have caused Katara to fall to her knees only shook the ground around the embracing pair. Tragone flew over them whipping the snow into circles of white clouds around them.
Zuko slowly pulled his lips from hers and watched her recover from the assault. Her head fell onto his chest as she rested.
“You will always know they are at peace from the eternal fire on Mount Hun.”
She heard the roar of the beast and watched with her cheek on his warm chest armor as the massive dragon encased the top of Mount Hun in fire. She felt her feet leave the ground as the Dragon Prince carried her towards their shelter for the night.
The storm unleashed its fury shortly after they had a small meal. It pounded the structure with undying power. Those inside could hear its wails of joy as it claimed the southern half of the county as its prisoner.
Katara held the blanket closer to her body watching the fire dance before her. It was his fire from his bending and it burned hotter then even thing she had even seen. It was white.
She had no idea what he wanted with her but she knew he would not force her to do anything she did not wish to do. She would not trade one unwanted love to be his love. She was grateful that he saved her but she would not give him her life as payment.
Katara stared at him through the fire. He sat there quietly with his eyes closed as he meditated, communicating with the dragon. The armor he removed after the meal and Katara’s eyes slowly moved over every muscle in his chest and arms. A strange heat entered her body that she had only felt when he touched her. She looked away when her eyes drifted down the flat muscled abdomen and the top of his loincloth.
Zuko’s eyes slowly opened and saw her breathing heavily and clutching the blanket.
“Are you cold?”
She quickly looked across the fire to see him rising and coming towards her. Panic rose inside of her as did the strange heat. She saw the muscles move in concert with his walk. He sat next to her and the heat of his body enveloped her. Katara stared at him for a moment then removed the blanket. They were silent as the fire crackled to fill the void.
She finally gained enough courage to speak after ten minutes.
“How can you move earth when you bend fire?”
His voice was soft as he began to speak to her. “The dragon has given me power over nature.”
“Can nothing harm you?”
He stared into her eyes. “I am invincible when he is near.”
The roar of Tragone rattled the structure. Katara’s eyes widened.
“Can he hear us?”
“Yes, he can hear most things and see all things.”
She dropped her head before speaking again. “Is he the reason you came to my village.”
Zuko’s warm hand lifted her chin. The heat from his touch seared into her body and made her close her eyes.
“You are the reason I came to your village. You belong to me.”
Katara pulled away from him and moved away. “What star told you that? Pakku said the same thing about me but I felt nothing for him. I feel nothing but gratitude for your defense of my people.”
The Dragon Prince stared at her defiant face and body before speaking very softly as the fire quieted so she could hear him.
“You burn for me. You feel the ache when you look at me, when I touch you.”
Katara stared into his eyes as he spoke.
“It is the heat of our souls meeting and bonding together. I will not force you to come to me but I will be the only one to taste the water of your love.”
The fire returned to its original ferocity as the Dragon Prince stood letting her look over his strong form before walking from the enclosed room to allow her rest.
“Hold!” Sokka pulled hard on the reigns as the two beast became fearful of the sudden roaring that filled the air. He barely made it into the cave before the storm began. Now his only source of travel was trying to run out of the cave. He calmed the beasts by stroking their fur and speaking softly to them.
The dragon was about and that did not bold well for him or anyone else out tonight. A bright light caught the corner of his eye and Sokka turned towards Hun Mountains to see that it was burning but not burning.
“What sort of magic was this? Ice did not burn.”
The beasts settled beside the fire Sokka made and he finished blocking the entrance of the cave with the skin of his hunt. The storm would delay his arrival home but he would make up the time by getting an early start tomorrow. He moved between the beast and heard them purring at him. Sokka smiled and closed his eyes to sleep.
