Eddy kicked the door as was his usual routine, sliding through the threshold on the recently waxed floor with his arms spread wide in a dramatic pose as though awaiting applause to his greatness. All he received was an equally dramatic groan from Kevin who had banged his head unceremoniously on the table, the recently set dishes clanking at the disturbance.
“Eddy, your shoes,” Edd complained in a slight whine at the miniscule traces of dirt left behind by the other boy’s carless entrance.
“Suck it up Double D; I can’t kick the door in barefoot.” Eddy said as he leaned one hand on the table to chuck his shoes off.
“Then don’t,” Was all Kevin had in reply. Eddy gave him a nasty look but ignored his friend’s sourpuss dorm-mate.
“So what grub you have tonight Sockhead? I’m starved, I’ve got nothing but chips and pop at my place and Ed with his uneatable supply of junk.” Eddy skid across the polished floor in his equally filthy socks, to his pal who was currently leaning down to collect his discarded footwear.
“You should really shop for something other than junk Eddy, the campus website has a shopping page you can use to order your groceries. They’ll have them delivered you know.” Edd said chastisingly, completely avoiding the question, as he always did, on what he planned to serve for the evening meal. Eddy knew it was always a surprise, but that didn’t stop his from prying. Being denied something only fueled his ambition to have it.
Kevin saw this as one of Eddy’s many flaws; in all honestly he didn’t think Eddy had any really good points other than ambition and the load his scheming parents had given him.
Eddy was, without a doubt, perfectly at home in his wealth. His family climbed the ladder of success by stomping on hands and burning the steps behind them so there could be no way down. If they were to descend it would be a long fall to the bottom, so they relied on their sons to continue their assent to glory. Not that Eddy minded much, he had his ideas and the resources to fund it, all he needed was someone smart to analyze things and make sure everything ran smoothly, and cheep labor to do the grunt work. He had that in his two associates. Once he was at the top he could just chill in his oversized leather chair and watch the money roll in, no need getting his hand dirty with work when he had other people to do it for him, at a small fee of course but it wasn’t like they didn’t have their own inheritance.
Eddy had explained this plan to Kevin the first dinner night he had been over. Thinking Kevin was the son of some big business man who may one day be interested in a merger. Kevin had been instantly disgusted with the teen and his casual way of using his friends as a labor source. Of course his disinterest had only fueled Eddy’s desire to befriend him; that is…until he learned that Kevin was just a commoner there on scholarship. Than he immediately deemed him unworthy of interest and once again favored Edd as his top priority.
“The junk’s cheaper and besides, you have to pay the delivery guys right out of your pocket. These chumps don’t even take credit cards.” Eddy huffed.
“That’s because you’ve given them fake cards so many times they don’t trust you anymore.” Kevin stated, though such incidents happened long before his arrival he wasn’t above using information his talkative living companion gave him to take a jab at his most unliked person in the school.
“Hey, it’s not my fault their suckers, okay?” Eddy shot back with another nasty glare.
“No, its your fault you have to pay in cash now because you took advantage of them. If it wasn’t for your family’s influence I doubt they would even still be delivering to you. Be grateful for that.” Kevin met the smoldering gaze with a disgusted glare of his own.
“At least my family has influence; you wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for that damn scholarship! Lucky break huh? And you didn’t even do that well on it. Just the smartest of the dumb ones aren’t you?” Eddy sneered.
“Just means I don’t have to use mommy and daddy’s name to get what I want, I get it myself.” Kevin said as he fisted Eddy’s shirt and dragged him up real close to get his threatening point across.
“Psh, you didn’t even want to come here. All you do is complaining on how much you miss your home.” Eddy didn’t know when to quit and it was quite obvious he was going to get pounded.
Edd was stepping forward, his hands out about to say something to try and calm the quarrelling boys when there was another knock at the door. All three turned towards it and Kevin, reluctantly, set Eddy down, who was currently levitating about a foot and a half off the ground with the help of Kevin’s strong grip. Eddy smoothed out the wrinkles in his collar as Edd trotted in his awkward way to the door to answer.
“Sarah, Jimmy, good to see you. I didn’t think you would make it tonight but you’re early as ever.” Edd’s voice could be heard from the front door, where as Eddy had come sliding in through the kitchen entrance.
“Jimmy’s appointment with the orthodontist went by quicker that expected since two other clients canceled. We didn’t have to hang around in the smelly waiting room for an hour like we thought we would.” Sarah smiled brightly at her shorter companion who looked down at his feet shyly, always embarrassed with the interest Edd had in him.
Kevin watched as, hand in hand, Sarah and Jimmy skipped into the kitchen with their fuzzy bunny slippers Edd bought for them, having taken off their shoes without even being asked.
Sarah was a sweet looking redhead with a disturbing collection of pink shirts and the occasional skirt, but mostly baggy blue jeans. Sarah had enrolled in the school this year like him, starting freshman year where he and the rest were seniors, except for Jimmy who was a junior. He wasn’t particularly sure what her relationship to Jimmy was, since the first day here she could be seen clutching his arm and dragging him around as her own personal tour guide.
It was well known she had a crush on Edd, but Edd brushed it off as a teacher would to an affectionate young child with a never ending supply of smiles and apples. Of course there were the twisted ones who took advantage of such innocent adoration, but Kevin brushed the thought aside. Edd never showed anything more than friendly interest in anyone here.
He ignored the sinking feeling in his stomach at that thought, blaming it on his hunger.

Sorry for the shortness, it was supposed to be longer but there’s some drama going on here and I need to play referee. Joy. Next chapter the rest of the fabulous characters come in and D2’s stress levels soar. I’m thinking a good few more chapters left before it ends. Sorry it sounds so short, but it’s meant to be.
