~* Chapter Three *~
The school bell rang out, loud and clear, as the day started. Zim hadn’t seen Dib all morning. She’d gone to the office to get register under her new name and be assigned her classes, even give them the news that ‘Dib’ wasn’t going to be back for a long while cause their family had placed him in something she’d called ‘the loony bin’. Zim gathered it was where they put people they believed to be crazy or out of the norm. He’d never thought Dib crazy, but then… he was the alien that his human had been chase for the pass seven years and the main reason most thought him crazy. With a sigh, he entered his class to find Dib already there. Standing next to the teacher’s desk with her hands folded in front of her. They had gone shopping yesterday and had gotten a few outfits for her to start out with; today she’d decided to wear the summer dress. With spaghetti straps and soft white martial that was broke with the patterns of red roses all over it and white sandals to match. She was a wondrous sight, indeed. Zim flashed her a smile as he took a sit, giving sharp glares at some of the guys that were allowing their eyes to roam over her with a little too much lust.
“Alright class. We have a new student today.” Said the teacher as she entered and stood next to Dib. “Her name is Hope Membrane. Cousin to Dib Membrane. Please try not to tease her too much, she’s having a hard time after they placed her cousin in the loony bin.” Snickers sounded through out the room, but Zim didn’t take his eyes off Dib as she quickly hid the hurt expression.
“Serves him right, I suppose.” He heard her mummer. “Shouldn’t have gone off about seeing aliens and knowing where one lived.” He could tell it stung to talk about herself that way, but knew it was for the best if they were going to give a convincing performance. However, what she did next, he wasn’t ready for. “Least it gave me a chance to know one of the people in here.” A soft smile curved her full lips as she moved over to where Zim sat; leaning over slightly and unknowingly gave him a perfect view down the front of her dress. “Sorry about all the things Dib said about you, Zim. I’m glad, though, that we were able to talk.” So dumbfounded, he just nodded and watched her take a sit where she always did. Least, where Dib’s always did. Hope… named for the hope she had to become male again.
The day passed on without much trouble, besides the possessive manner Zim had seemed acquire today. Dib watched as he, again, growled at a guy that was trying to pick her up. He’d jotted his number down to give it to her and told her to call, but Zim had stepped in. Ripped the paper up and giving him a blunt blow to his temper.
“Don’t touch her.” Zim snarled, looping an arm around her waist and leading her away. Dib had gotten use to it by this point and only sighed.
“Really, Zim, what has gotten into you?” Dib cooed softly with a chuckle, once again fluttering him.
“Nothing! I just don’t want them fucking something up. You’re a female now, there for weak to their wails. I don’t want some dumb fuck coming in and making shit hard for us.” Was, once again, his answer. She figured there was something more to his claim, but never perused it further, not wanting him to withdraw his protections.
“At least today’s over.” Sighed the teen, turning her head to look at the school building as they left. “Just have to worry about… the rest of the week. Maybe year… hell! Maybe life. I might be Hope Membrane for the remainder of my life.” Zim looked over at her and she offered him a careless, little shrug. “Might not be so bad.”
They entered Zim’s base, it now being much more discrete in its off-white color and built a little wider. Dib looked around and smiled, it now looked so normal. Zim had gotten rid of the ‘parent’ robots about a year ago, saying he lived alone instead. Made things a little easier in the end. She dropped her books on the side table next to the couch and plopped down with a sigh.
“You alright?” Zim pulled off his wig and set it in a hidden compartment next to the door, along with his contacts and reached around to click a button hidden under his shirt. Something on his weird little pack, she was sure, watching as his cream colored skin vanished and stood before her in his Irken form.
“Yea.” Came her simple answer, giving him a reassuring smile when he quirked an antenna. Not being sure how she knew what that small motion meant, but simply shrugged it off and stretched out her achy limbs.
“What was with you today, anyway?” Dib found her nails rather interesting as she asked, anything to prevent from look directly at Zim. He turned to look over at her, tilting his head.
“What do you mean?” The little human shrugged her shoulders as she finally gave up avoiding eye contact and gazed into his red eyes.
“Its one thing to protect me against other humans till I’m… cured, but you were acting almost… well… possessive.” The Irken quirked an antenna, narrowing one eye and Dib sighed with a shake of her head. “Nothing. Nevermind.” It was obvious that he wasn’t going to fess up to anything and she hopped up to drag her bag into the kitchen to get to work on her homework. Guess starting late in the year made her liable for a mountain of homework. She left Zim to his thoughts where he’d taken her place on the couch.
Why AM I being so… possessive of him? Her… He narrowed his eyes, drumming his fingers on the arm of the couch. Was it the gender change that caused all this? As a male, he was seen no more then a worth foe, perhaps a wonderful friend if things had ever worked that way. Though a proud Irken Invader needed no friends, many things had changed in him, thanks to this strange planet he’d been kicked to. As a female, Dib could prove to be a stead fast, worthy… mate. The idea made him snap is head up and look through the archway into the kitchen, where she sat at the table there. Books and papers were scattered over the smooth surface as she worked, the heel of one shoe on the leg of the chair. She was quite beautiful, for a human that was. Mate. Could she? Would she? With a suffered sigh, he slumped back into the couch.
Hearing his sigh, Dib lifted her head and looked over at him with an arched brow.
“You alright?” He jumped slightly, tilting his head slightly to look over at her. Obviously not expecting her to say something to him.
“Yea. I’m fine.” Dib gazed at him a little longer before nodding her satisfaction in the answer and went back to work.
Mate… The word rolled in his mind as he watched her. She would be a wonderful one. Attentive, intelligent, sweet…nearly perfect. Zim smiled softly, wondering if he’d ever have the guts to make that really happen. Although, there was the fact that she wanted to get back the gender she was born with. He signed, One day at a time, I guess.
“ZIM!” Dib shook his shoulders, having spent the past five minutes trying to wake her Irken companion; her voice now took on a sharper edge. “Wake up, Irken! We’re going to be late for school!” The green figure below her stirred slightly, mumbled something and turned over, taking her with him. Dib couldn’t help the blush that crept over her cheeks as the feel of his bare skin against the flesh that was exposed from her cropped top and low ridding jeans. It wasn’t an unpleasant sensation as she felt the warm from his greenish skin, his breath teasing her raven hair. Dib took a deep, steady breath and shook his shoulders again, a little harder to do from this angle of being half under him.
“Zim.” She swallowed hard as she felt his slim fingers begin to lazily draw designs on the small of her back, sending sweet tingles up her spine and she arched her back into him. “Please… wake up.” Zim mumbled something else under his breath, she could barely make it out, but she knew she’d heard her name. Not her ‘Hope’ name either… he’d said ‘Dib’. This realization made her eyes widen, why would he be saying her REAL name in his sleep? Snuggling up further, she held her breath for a moment to see if he’d say anything more.
After waiting a full minute, she let her breath out slowly and started to give shallow breaths. Making sure she could hear him if he said anything else. Dib finally sigh when he continued to be silent, only his steady breathing sending tremors down her spine where it brushed her cheek. Just as she was about to give up and opened her mouth to say his name again, finding the mixture of his breath and the strokes on her back nearly maddening as she tried to focus her thoughts else where, he mumbled again and she gasped in a mixture of surprise, outrage, and… shear delight. As if that simple sound from her lips triggered him, Zim curled himself around the smaller human, pulling her completely under him. Dib… mine… mate…It had been all she’d made out, but it had been enough as she thumped her fist against his shoulder. The assault seemed to make him believe he was under attack, for he vaulted up on his hands and knees above her and snarled down at her.
Zim blinked fully awake as he realized who was under him and his snarl drained into a look of confusion. “Wha…?” Dib lay sprawled under him, her face flushed and breath ragged. Her hair mused and her shirt raised just a bit to show the under part of her silky bra. What had he done?
“Dib…?” His voice was edged with unease as he looked at her with a questioning gaze, his body tense and his Irken pride achy with need, brought on by his hot dream and then waking to see the very real Dib laying under him in a very suggestive manner. She smiled at him after a short time, shaking her head.
“Its alright, Zim. My fault. I was trying to wake you up so we could get to school.” Dib gave a careless little shrug, smiling. “Suppose I stumbled a little too close to the rutting lion.” Her softer smile curled into a slyer one, her eyes narrowing to flakes of amber fire, lips posed somewhere between a pout and a smirk. The sight made his heart skip a couple beats and made the air rush from his lungs.
“Dib…?” Zim’s voice was breathy and he cringed slightly at the tightening feeling grew in his stomach.
“Yes, Zim?” She cooed, sliding cool fingertips over the skin of his bare chest. He usually slept nude, but was thankful he’d decided against it last night as he felt his member strain against his silken boxers.
“I… need to get dressed… for school.” Using the excuse like a lifeline, she jumped out of his bed and ran into his closet, where he could hopefully caught his breath.
Dib chuckled to herself. It would seem her Irken Invader wasn’t equipped to fend off invasions of the softer gender. That thought registered and logged away for later, Dib hopped off Zim’s bed and walked out of the room. Things were going to get… interesting. Perhaps it was the female hormones running amok… but she loved the way Zim had looked at her. It had made her feel… wanted. Even needed. Dib wasn’t use to those feelings, being a male or female. She wasn’t use affecting another’s feelings like that. The newfound ability made her beam as she hummed under her breath and waited for Zim to come up so they could head out. As Zim shot up from one of the many portals into his base, she smiled to herself. Oh yes. Very… very interesting from here on out.
Zim couldn’t understand it! Dib was acting so… weird. Every time they crossed paths, she could flash him a sassy smirk or whispered something way to close to his ear. She’d even pressed that enticing body against his a time or two and rumors were starting to form that they were an ‘idem’. Having learned a while ago that this meant they were dating, he’d tried to deny it, but had caught Dib a couple times adding fuel to the fire.
“Oh! We’re living together right now. My uncle is being a little difficult and Gaz is just being a royal bitch. So Zim let me stay with him.” As if THAT wasn’t going to start a whole new flurry of rumors, but Dib seemed to be enjoying it and the thought sent chills through his body. He was going to have to talk to her once they were back at the base.
“Zim! Hey, Zim-man!” The Invader spun around and arched the human brow he’d incorporated into his disguise.
“What?” The earth boy he’d befriended a while ago stopped before him, panting.
“Man! I heard about you and that hot new tart. Lucky devil! Not fair that you pluck her up before any of us could though.” He barked out with laughter and patted Zim on the shoulder.
“Who told you?” Curious as to where these rumors started, he glanced over his shoulder where Dib was giggling with another female.
“Hope did, dude. She totally digs you, man.” This information made Zim blink in surprise for a moment before regaining his composure. So you wanna play this game, do ya, Dib? Ok… let’s play. With a cocky smile curving his lips, he snickered.
“Course she digs me. I am her boyfriend after all and she can’t get enough of what I give her.” The earth boy howled with cheering laughter that made Dib glance over at them and Zim flashed her a sly smile with a hidden message. Dib blinked at him at first, then the realization dawned on her and she grinned mockingly. And the game… had begun.
