Hello world and my wonderful readers!
I figured it would be only natural for Geoff and Tyler to be mad at Duncan, just like Courtney was. I don't think anything he did was too grandiose, he has the money for it and he's investing in the future. I am not a stoner, but it is DEFINITELY on my bucket list to party with Jeff Bridges and John Goodman! The Big Lebowski is like one of my all time favorite movies. "The Dude" is KING! Sorry if it seems like I'm dragging the story out, I keep coming up with new ideas and the fans don't want it to end just yet. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, there's really only one or two more chapters left and an epilogue.
Also, I would love some more original Fanart, please contact me! Thank you SySaiyan for your two gorgeous pieces!
I finally hit over 200 reviews! WOO-HOO! Now, I really want to hit 300 and more reviews! I've been advertising the story on Instagram, I hope it works! I did not draw the cover image, I found that on Instagram also!

Chapter Twenty Nine: Squaring Things in The Cards, Part One
One Month Later…
Immediately following the bust, word on the diamond heist spread internationally. On December 26th, the picture of Duncan kissing Courtney was on the front page of The Los Angeles Times and Daily News with the byline "Love Happens in Crossfire over Black Diamonds." Time Magazine, Newsday Today, People, Rolling Stone, New York Times, The Chicago Sun, Chicago Tribune, Mother Jones, National Review, The Atlantic, The Sovereign, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper's, In These Times, and The Huffington Post also broke the story. It was the topic of discussion on every major talk and news show. Nancy Grace, Jane Velez Mitchell, Dr. Drew, Anderson Cooper 360, Piers Morgan, Hannity, Fox News, Good Morning America, The Today Show. The late night talk shows made gags about it. Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers even made a mention on Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update. Duncan was requested by all of them for interviews, as was Courtney, and they happily accepted. Piers Morgan dedicated the entire hour to them, and Courtney's back story actually brought Anderson Cooper to tears. They either graced the cover or made top headlines on the magazines, which flew off the shelves, and the TV ratings for their interviews hit an all time high. They were invited back for follow up interviews, since Chris and Alejandro's trials would be starting soon. The panels on the HLN and CNN shows were having a field day over it, with Daniel Cevallos and Mark Geragos having very strong views about the verdict going either way, but that most likely it would be life in prison.
On Christmas Day, Scott's body was found a mile from The Tainted Kitty, having bled out to death, making the death count now five. Since they were all firing at the same time, Duncan wasn't charged with murder, it was written off as self defense. Justin didn't have a next of kin, which left Courtney in charge of his remains. Although she wanted nothing to do with it, she ultimately chose to have his body donated to science, with selected parts donated to people that needed them. She figured it would be the one good thing he ever did with his life, and he wasn't even in charge.
With their engagement along with the newfound fame and recognition, Duncan and Courtney were swamped. Their bruises and Duncan's arm had both healed nicely, there was barely a scar once the stitches were removed.
After New Year's, Duncan hired professional cleaning crews to clean up both his and Courtney's places. Her place was easy since it was entirely vacant and took less than a day, but since his place looked like a tornado hit it, it took almost three days. The insurance company reimbursed him for everything, Haziza of H Studio even recreated some of the original pieces Duncan had that were discontinued when he heard about the heist, along with a few new pieces for the lovely couple. When everything was all cleaned up and what was salvageable at Duncan's was packed, he managed to get them a "paid to vacate" offer on both the townhouse and apartment. They moved into Duncan's room at Joan and Stanley's, upon Joan's insistence, while they looked for their dream house. Duncan cashed out and deposited the money from Stanley, and Courtney decided to go through with selling the clubs to open a dance studio. Joan and Courtney had grown closer since Christmas Eve, Courtney considered her like the mother she never had. When Courtney wasn't accompanying Duncan on interviews, she spent the rest of her days planning the wedding with Joan, Bridgette, and Zoey, both of whom also took a liking to Joan.
While Bridgette and Zoey immediately forgave Duncan, Geoff and Tyler were a different story. They refused to see or speak to him, he had to pull every string he could to get them the best criminal defense attorneys. As predicted by DJ, the prosecutor offered the boys a plea bargain: To reveal every bit of information they knew along with testifying during the trials and all they would get would be six months probation. Not wanting to go to jail and knowing it was the best offer they'd get, they accepted. Pleased with the outcome, the next step was getting them together. Courtney came up with a plan to have Bridgette and Lindsay drag Geoff and Tyler to Cecconi's, unbeknownst to them that they'd be meeting Duncan, the girls agreed.
The day of this surprise meeting was finally here. Cecconi's had always been one of his favorite restaurants to frequent. The wood and glass encased patio reminded him of a greenhouse and could see every single cloud in sight, green hedges with tiny white flowers in all the corners, cerulean and white seats at polished dark wood tables. Duncan sat nervously between Courtney and Zoey, as they chatted on and on about the wedding, he didn't really say much. He hoped Geoff and Tyler wouldn't scorn him, but he felt pretty confident that they wouldn't be able to refuse the propositions he had for each of them.
"Duncan?"
"Huh?" He snapped out of his thoughts and looked back at his fiancé, who looked a little worried. Her smile faded as her eyes went from happy to sad.
"Are you ok, sweetie?" She rubbed his knee, resting her head on his shoulder and looked up at him with her doe grey eyes. Duncan loved how kind and considerate she was, they looked out and took care of each other. He didn't even care if she was so involved with planning their wedding, he loved seeing her happy and would do anything to keep things that way. It only helped that he had the luxury to give her whatever she wanted, but they both knew none of it mattered because their burning love surpassed any dream wedding or material items. He gripped her hand reassuringly.
"I am, it's going to go over well." He kissed her hand and put it on his knee. "Now, what were we talking about?"
"Oh, I was just saying how I want our dream closet to look like the one in the Sex and the City movie, but Zoey was saying how the one in Head Over Heels is much better. What do you think?"
Duncan sighed before laughing. "Well, considering you made me sit through both insufferable chick flicks AND Les Miserables, why not hit a home run and I'll build you both in one closet?"
Courtney looked at him, confused. "Really? What's the catch?"
He shook his head. "No catch, we'll be having separate walk in closets anyway, just like my parents did. Whatever you want, Princess. Hell, maybe I'll pull a Sam Rothstein and have it pre stocked like in Casino."
"EEE!" Both girls clapped their hands together and squealed.
"Thank you, Dunky." She grabbed him and gave him a smooch.
"Awww!" Zoey cooed as they separated. "You guys are so adorable!"
"Hey, you and Mike are pretty cute yourselves. I told Duncan the first night you met how adorable you two are together."
"I know, and I'm absolutely crazy about him, too! I didn't even find him on a dating site, either."
Ever since the bust, Duncan and Courtney had been double dating with Zoey and Mike a lot, with Duncan and Mike becoming good friends. He even asked him to be one of his groomsmen. Duncan hoped that Bridgette and Geoff would be joining them on their dates soon. Group dating could have it's perks.
"That's right. Besides, Duncan. I thought you said you liked Les Miserables."
He nodded. "Of course I did! It put me to sleep, it's the perfect cure for insomnia."
Courtney scoffed but couldn't help but start laughing, Zoey joining her.
"I knew you were sleeping! It was so beautiful, I was crying, especially during "On My Own" and when Eponine died later on, but the end just killed me."
Duncan rolled his eyes at her. "Yeah, and if we saw it on Broadway I'm sure I'd have the best nap of my life."
They all started laughing when Courtney stuck her tongue out at him before turning back to Zoey. Duncan happened to look over at the front entrance and nudged Courtney.
"Court, Zoe, look who just walked in."
The girls nonchalantly looked over to see Geoff and Tyler strolling in with Bridgette and Lindsay. The boys immediately made eye contact with Duncan and froze.
"What?!" Geoff said.
"Hell no, babe! I'm not breaking bread with that jerk!" Tyler joined in. They both tried to turn around, but Lindsay and Bridgette started pushing their respective boyfriends towards the table.
"Tyler! Get over there!"
"Geoff, stop being such a big baby and sit down with him!"
"NO!" They both shouted, causing the whole patio to look over.
"You're embarrassing us!"
Duncan bowed his head into his hand, nodding in shame. "I was worried about this happening."
Courtney rubbed his shoulder again. "They're just surprised. Once you break everything down to them, it'll be like nothing ever changed." As she saw them approaching the table, her and Zoey stood up and rearranged the chairs to be across from Duncan. Bridgette and Lindsay threw the boys down in the chairs and held their arms down to prevent them from leaving.
"Bridge, how many times do I have to tell you, I want nothing to do with this traitor!"
"Yeah, Linds. How could you lie to us like that? Not cool!"
Bridgette and Lindsay, both usually calm, friendly, and bubbly, were completely the opposite at the moment. They looked furious, almost seething mad.
"What's not cool was that little scene you two just pulled in front of the entire patio! Everybody was staring at you!"
"Yeah, Tyler! Now we can probably never eat here again, and Cecconi's is one of the hottest spots in town where all the stars go!" Lindsay scolded before getting distracted star searching. "Ooo, lookie! There's Ian Somerhalder and Amanda Seyfried! Over there it's Reza and MJ and GG from Shahs of Sunset! They're seated next to LL Cool J and Kerry Washington! EEEE! So many beautiful and famous people!" She clapped her hands together, jumping up and down and squealing, reverting back to her usual Lindsay self. If only she had been here a minute earlier with Courtney and Zoey squealing over the closet, she would have fit right in. Her wave of star struck managed to create a crack in the rising tension.
"In all seriousness. Guys, it's been over a month! Duncan's sorry, just hear him out!" Bridgette was getting annoyed over how childish they were acting.
"Nah, no way, nu-uh. Duncan lied to all of us, we almost went to jail!" Geoff folded his arms across his chest, with Tyler following.
"Yeah? Well, you didn't go to jail because he made sure you got the best lawyers, which I didn't see you turn down! Now, kindly shut up, order some Chicken Parmesan, open your ears and listen! OR NO SEX FOR A MONTH!"
Geoff gasped and his mouth flew open. Duncan, Courtney, Zoey, and Tyler were trying to restrain their snickers.
"Bridgey, NO, ANYTHING BUT-"
"Sorry, Geoff, I'm not kidding."
"Yeah, and I second what she said! Same goes for you, Tyler! No sex with Bridgette for a month! I mean with Geoff! I mean, no sex with me for a month! NO SEX WITH ANYBODY!"
Duncan couldn't hold it in any longer and bent his head down under the table, finally releasing the laughter, he was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes. Courtney and Zoey were still trying to contain themselves, especially since the looks on Geoff and Tyler's faces were priceless. Courtney didn't think that she would ever go that far with Duncan. Not because it would hurt him, but because she'd also be hurting herself. Sex with Duncan was mind blowing and irresistible, enough said. She bent her head down under the table to join his.
"Did you get that out of your system?" They exchanged a look and she cracked a smile, trying not to laugh. He nodded.
"Yes, I think I did." They both popped their heads back up, composing themselves. Duncan looked over and Courtney. "Courtney, what time is your meeting at Culina to discuss the clubs?"
"5:00 pm."
"Ok." He pulled something out of his wallet. "Here's the card for the valet. Take the girls shopping on Rodeo Drive and kill some time before then. The pieces should be ready for pick up at Bvlgari." He handed Courtney the valet card. "Oh, and it's all on me, including the working dinner." She lifted back the valet card to see Duncan's American Express Black Card, which the other girls saw and began secretly marveling over. Before Courtney could say anything, Duncan continued. "Don't worry, bring Bridgette and Lindsay back to the house, Geoff and Tyler will be there, also."
Tyler scoffed. "The hell we will!"
Duncan smirked. "Oh, I think you will after you hear and see what I have in store for both of you." He didn't just think, he knew.
"Ok. Thank you so much! Come on, girls. Let's go."
Bridgette and Lindsay said good bye to their guys and whispered something in their ears before thanking Duncan and leaving.
"Bye, Duncan. Thanks again! See you later." Zoey left, joining Bridgette and Lindsay to give Courtney and Duncan a moment to say goodbye.
"Bye, Dunky! I'll see you in a while!" She bent down, grabbing his face in a side ways kiss and gave him such a powerful kiss that it knocked the wind out of him. He slipped his tongue in her mouth and sucked on it hard, causing her to squeal. They broke the kiss and smirked at each other.
"Bye, baby doll. Have fun." Duncan smacked her lightly on the butt as she walked away, only for her to turn around and look at him again.
"DUN-CAN!" His only answer was a seductive wink and a smile. She giggled and joined the girls, who were laughing also. Duncan turned back and stared at Geoff and Tyler, who were glaring at him.
"So, are we going to be big boys and talk this out like adults or should I order you two some booster seats?"
Geoff scoffed. "Why should we listen to anything you have to say, Duncan? We almost got killed because of you and you lied to us about being in the FBI!"
"Sch-yeah! Not only that, but we lost out on $20 million each! I thought we were friends, Duncan. Even if we haven't seen each other in a while, we still considered you a friend, but after this, I don't think things will ever be the same."
Like Courtney and his parents, Geoff and Tyler were absolutely justified in their reactions. They needed to hear it from Duncan's side. The waiter came with three Bloody Mary's for them all. Duncan took a long sip of his and started talking.
"Look, the only reason why you almost died is because Alejandro decided to deposit the counter fit bills in the bank. We were supposed to catch him at the airport, then catch Chris when I delivered the diamonds, but that all went up in smoke when Barboza went haywire. Again, this was strictly confidential, I could have gotten in big trouble for blowing my cover."
"And now you're hailed around the world as a hero! What about me and Tyler? You wouldn't have even known about the heist if it weren't for me bringing you in!"
"Uh, that's not true. The F.B.I. was tapping your phone for six months and brought me in when they found out we went to CSUN together. Face the facts, you got played. After we caught Chris, nobody was going to be getting anything. Besides, I thought you'd like to know about a little detail that came to light when Chris was being questioned: Turns out, he hired a hit man to kill us all so he could run off with the diamonds."
There was a long silence, Geoff and Tyler looked like they had seen a ghost. When Duncan found out the news, he wasn't too surprised. Chris was just that predictable and stupid. He would be getting his punishment shortly. For now, Duncan only cared about redeeming himself to Geoff and Tyler, they didn't deserve to be dragged into this mess.
"Anyways, the reason I called you here today was to make things right. I know you guys were just trying to score some quick and heavy dough without doing any work, and I've come up with a way for you to do just that."
Geoff and Tyler looked at each other, then back at Duncan, before Geoff broke the silence.
"Oh, and what's that?"
"Well, I'm not sure if you heard, but my mom and step dad were so upset over the heist and bust, that Stan wrote me a check for $80 million and made me promise never to pull shenanigans like this again."
"Yeah, Duncan. We heard. Did you bring us hear to brag, or what?"
"If you shut your trap, Tyler, you'd find out." He glared at Tyler, who shut up. "Anyways, before I was so rudely insulted and interrupted, I'm now $81 million richer, since I got my full million dollar inheritance for my birthday. Anyways, I figured I owed you two this after everything you've been through."
Duncan reached into his jacket and pulled out two envelopes with Geoff and Tyler's names on them, and handed the envelopes to the respective recipient. He watched them open it, their faces going from curious to astounded. Inside the envelopes was a check for each of them for $20 million.
"Consider it restitution."
The boys were flabbergasted and incredulous, staring at the checks as if they were The Holy Grail. It was one of the most generous things Duncan had ever done, and it surely made up for everything the boys had gone through.
"OH MY GOD! DUNK, ARE YOU-"
"Yes, it's all yours."
"YOU MEAN…"
"To keep forever."
Tyler and Geoff stared at each other, then back at Duncan, then back at each other, before simultaneously bursting out.
"OH MY GOD! WE'RE RICH! WE'RE RICH!"
They both stood up and started jumping around, hugging each other and cheering. The sight made Duncan laugh, which was interrupted by the waiter.
"Sir, your friends are creating a disturbance."
"Sorry, they're just a little overexcited. This should take care of it." Duncan fished about $200 out of his wallet, which certainly shut the waiter up. "And keep the change." Duncan turned back to Tyler and Geoff as the waiter left. "Guys, ya wanna sit down? You're making a scene, I just had to bribe the waiter to let us stay." They stopped and sheepishly sat down.
"Sorry, Duncan. We're just excited!" Tyler was still blushing.
"Yeah, I can't believe this! I have no idea what to do with the money!"
Duncan smiled, feeling at ease that things were starting to take a turn for the better. "That's how I felt when I first got my money, and I knew splitting it with you would be the right thing."
The boys smiled brightly. "You didn't have to. That's like, so selfless, man!" Geoff said.
Duncan shrugged. "What can I say? Falling in love will do that to a person."
Tyler looked at him quizzically. "With Courtney?"
He shot him a look. "No, with Jessica Chastain. Yes, with Courtney. That's another thing. I asked Lindsay and Bridgette not to tell you this so I could tell you in person, but Courtney and I, we're getting married."
Geoff look stunned. "What? Duncan Harrister settling down? No way!"
Duncan laughed and smiled. It was hard to believe he was a notorious womanizer before hooking up with Gwen and proposing to her, but that had been a fluke, and he was glad he hadn't made the mistake of marrying her. He was more than ready to take the plunge with Courtney. "Yep, I proposed to her on Christmas Day. We moved in at Stan's since my place was ransacked and have been looking for a new house. The wedding is in April, I want you both to be my best man. It only makes sense since Courtney is having two maids of honor."
"Dude, congrats! Of course I'll do it!"
"Yeah, bro! I'm all in! Ty, dude, we gotta throw Duncan a kill-er bachelor party!"
"Yeah!"
The boys started laughing, but Duncan shook his head. "Do what you want, but no strippers whatsoever. Courtney is all the stripper I'll ever need for the rest of my life. I'm sure the same goes for both of you with your girls."
"Absolutely, man! This calls for a toast! Garcon!" Geoff shouted, snapping his fingers at the waiter. "Bottle of Dom Perignon, please!"
"That's not the only thing we'll be celebrating. I came up with a couple ideas on how to invest your newly acquired cash. The choice of going with the ideas is up to you, but I think you'll end up taking my advice."
"Alright, we're listening." Tyler said. The waiter came back with their champagne and took their lunch order. Once he left, Duncan hesitated in Geoff opening the bottle.
"Not yet, we have to get down to business." The boys looked serious and intrigued.
"I don't know if the girls told you either, but Chris left the clubs to Courtney. She's selling them to open up a dance studio. Here's where you come in, Geoff." Duncan turned to him. "Courtney is going to sell the clubs to you for a fairly reasonable price, which you two will discuss further. She doesn't really need the money, we already got a deal on a great spot for her studio, but I've looked into an investor to help you scout a location so you can open up your own nightclub. You're the party king, Geoff. It would be perfect and I know it's something you've always wanted to do."
Geoff was grinning from ear to ear. "That's only been my dream for, like, ever! This is insane! I'm gonna make this the sickest hot spot in all of L.A.! No, all of Cali!"
Duncan laughed, thrilled with his friend's enthusiasm. "I know you will. I've got the best crew lined up for you. Interior design, chef, whatever you want. I highly suggest you bring back Eva and Jo as body guards, Lightening as the DJ, and Izzy as a bartender. They may be kooky, but they'd give the place some pizzazz with a hint of crazy. Now, Tyler."
He turned to Tyler. "It took us a while to figure out what you should do, but I think I came up with it. You're a personal trainer, but you don't seem satisfied. I was reading Entrepreneur magazine the other day and it said that Anytime Fitness in number one on the 2014 Franchise 500 list. It outranked McDonald's, Subway, Pizza Hut, you name it, this one takes the cake. This would be aces for you, Ty. You could run your own gym how you want it. It's always open, the prices are affordable, personal trainers are available, and they also have tanning booths, which gave me the idea of you adding on a day spa and having Lindsay run it. What do you think?"
Tyler was just as stunned as Geoff was, but his face combusted into glee.
"I've always wanted to run my own gym! How did you know?"
Duncan shrugged. "Don't think I wasn't paying attention when you guys were gabbing about post college plans. Speaking of which, I also think that we should enroll in classes at CSUN again and skip out on the fraternity. You may think that with this newly obtained prosperity that you don't need to, but you have to prepare yourself for if the bottom ever falls out. Besides, education isn't something to waste. So, what do you say?"
The boys were off in their own world, imagining life with their freshly inherited riches, but they heard him and nodded their heads.
"I'm in, dude! Now, can we open this bubbly? It's going to get flat!" Geoff pouted, he hated to waste a perfectly good bottle of Dom.
"In a minute! There's one more thing, guys." They looked over at him, waiting in anticipation. What else could he possibly have to say? Duncan wanted to burst into the biggest smile, knowing this coup de`grace would knock them off their seats and flat on their asses.
"There's been a rumor going around that a movie about the heist and diamond bust is in the works. I've been getting offers, gift baskets, you name it. I even heard that there's a bidding war going on for who will win the rights to the story. George Clooney is good friends with Stan, they're always at the same charity events and Stan donates a lot to his non-profit. Anyways, his company, Smokehouse Pictures, is interested in the story. George contacted me a couple weeks ago, we've been talking on the phone and have had a couple meetings, we think that we've come to a pretty good deal."
"Wait a second, Dunc. Batman wants to make a movie based on all of this?!" Tyler nearly shouted, to which Duncan nodded.
"Something like that. He's known for bigger than playing Batman, dude. Anyways, back to the topic at hand. Yes, George Clooney wants to make the movie, and John Goodman is interested in it as well. They're coming over tonight and want to meet with you guys to discuss everything."
"George Clooney, The George Clooney, MULTIPLE TIME SEXIEST MAN ALIVE GEORGE CLOONEY WANTS TO MEET WITH US?! AND JOHN GOODMAN, FREAKING DAN CONNER AND WALTER SOBCHAK, WANTS TO MEET US?!" Geoff exclaimed. Duncan was trying so hard not to laugh, they were cracking him up.
"Yes, Geoff. The George Clooney and The John Goodman want to meet, I'm bringing you in as consultants on the film and you're getting a consultant's fee of twenty five thousand, so now you're both $20,025,000 richer."
He watched their mouths open, about to cheer, but he held his hand up. "Wait, don't cheer yet, that's not the best part. Tonight, we are going to fulfill our wildest college dream: We are going to drink and smoke pot with John Goodman and Jeff Bridges."
That last bit of news had Geoff and Tyler absolutely stunned. Maybe the shock of the overwhelming shipload of good news was finally settling in.
"OH MY GOD!" They both simultaneously shouted, jumped out of their seats, and began dancing around. Duncan laughed as everybody in the restaurant once again turned around to look at them. Geoff and Tyler pulled him out of his chair and started shaking him wildly and laughing.
"WE'RE GONNA SMOKE WITH THE DUDE, WE'RE GONNA GET ST-"
"SHUT UP! Do you want everybody to hear you?! Do you want to get thrown out of here?" They sheepishly shook their heads and all sat back down. The waiter came back with their food and was about to lean into Duncan when he pulled out another $200 for him. "Treat yourself. Give the manager my apologies." The waiter walked off, smirking at his tips.
"Ok, guys. You've gotta keep it together or we'll be freaking banished for life. I'd like to show my face in here again some day. There will be plenty of time for acting like fools later tonight, but at this time, we toast and cheer like men of class, which we now are. Geoff, top us off."
"Way ahead of you, man!" Geoff finished pouring the delicious champagne and passed around the flutes. They raised their glasses.
"Money, fame, friendship, success, and love. La fortuna aiuta gli audaci!"
"La fortuna aiuta gli audaci!"
They all clinked and downed their champagne glasses.
"Wait, what does that even mean?"
"It's an Italian proverb, it means "Fortune favors the bold". So does this mean we're cool?" The boys looked at each other before laughing. Geoff poured more champagne in the flutes when a question came to mind.
"Hey, you never said what the name of the movie is going to be, does it have a title yet?"
Duncan downed his champagne and gave a sly smile, knowing the reason behind the name, before replying.
"Nights in White Satin."
