Crys was ready and sat brooding in the living room on one end of the couch while Lumar, also dressed occupied the other end (the extreme far end). They both glanced up when Schwenk and Tee-Lara appeared.
"We ready, gang? Let's go have dinner..." he smiled.
"Don't worry about calling a cab; I've got the car parked in the garage." Crys declared rising.
"Excellent....thanks, Crys..." Schwenk held Tee-Lara's hand.
"No problem...it’s Argo you should be thanking...” the she-cat had a terribly wide smile on her face.
"Oh? Why's that?"
"Nothing...come on...let's get going!" She ushered everyone out.
He sighed and followed, wondering what the Sh’iar was talking about.
Tee-Lara gasped upon seeing the expensive Rolls Royce parked in the garage. "What a beautiful car!"
"Wow....nothing like arriving in style!" Schwenk beamed.
Lumar raised an eyebrow. "Is there a reason why the license plate says ‘Tiglon’s Rule’ on it?"
Crys shrugged. "Maybe that's because it's Argo’s car?"
"Right....come on...Argo is doing a good thing for us..." Schwenk eagerly clambered in.
"Yeah I would agree with that statement since I stole his car." The she-cat grinned climbing into the driver's side; she hot wired the car to start it. "If everyone is buckled in, let's go."
"Stolen.....but....every Sh’iar will be looking for it!"
"They already know what I've done...no one dares stop a rampaging female Sh'iar warrior." Crys backed out into the street then gunned the motor. "In fact, I've stolen all of his cars and scattered them around New Thundera. I hate the bastard!"
"OK...let's go and have a nice dinner, right?"
"Right!" Tee-Lara agreed taking Schwenk's hand in hers; Crys and Lumar remained silent.
"Come on....this will be great!"
"Whatever...” the she-cat grumbled while navigating the vehicle down the street eventually pulling up to Tee-Lara's parents' place. "We're here."
"Excellent...Tee-Lara...please, lead us in..."
"Stay close to me Gaston...” she whispered nervously as she climbed out of the vehicle; the front door was yanked open and her parents Selwyn and Sentina stood waiting on the top steps.
"Welcome home dear!" They chorused happily together.
Schwenk presented Tee-Lara. "We brought along Lumar and his better half...Crys..." Schwenk also announced.
Tee-Lara's parents openly gaped at the two big cats. "Um...welcome...please come in."
Crys nodded sailing past the pair into the salon. "Nice place..." She said with a forced politeness.
The tigress hugged her parents. "Hi...mom...dad...I'm here."
Schwenk kept to one side. "We'll give you five minutes together..." he nodded to Crys and Lumar.
"No...no...come inside." Sentina urged the human and Lumar. "Please let us sit in the parlor and catch up."
"OK...." he held Tee-Lara's hand as they all sat in the parlor.
Crys and Lumar took seats away from one another; Selwyn's eyes travelled over the she-cat's body, he smiled. "What is your line of work Crys?"
Schwenk whispered to Lumar. "Sit next to her!"
"She doesn't want to be anywhere near me." The Beni whispered back. "What does it matter anyway?"
"Image....now do it!"
Lumar got up and sat beside Crystalandra; she grimaced but said nothing to her mate instead focusing on the question Tee-Lara’s father had asked. "My line of work? Well, I suppose you could say it is security."
The Siberian tiger nodded. "The pay must be excellent for you to be driving such an expensive vehicle."
“She has a most generous boss..." Schwenk added.
Sentina seized her daughter's hand giving it a little squeeze. "It has been a long time Tee-Lara...I am very happy to see you...Are you pleased with your mate?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" The tigress asked. "I love him."
"Your mother was only asking...we've left your happiness for too long..." Selwyn said sadly.
"Of course..." Tee-Lara replied. "I'm sorry father...I am extremely happy...out of that unfortunate situation...I-I want to thank you for welcoming me back...home."
"Yes...you've been most cordial and generous..."
"Well...if we are going to be a family again..." Sentina sighed. "Might as well let bygones be bygones." She glanced at Crys. "Do you work at the Cat's Lair with Gaston and your mate?"
"NO." The she-cat replied.
"You'll have to excuse Crys...she's had a difficult day at work, it's all hush-hush..." Schwenk added.
Crys fixed the human with a look. "My cousin wouldn't appreciate me being at the Lair...He's busy...can't entertain me. You know how relatives can be..."
Both Selwyn and Sentina exchanged favourable glances with one another. "Cousin? My...my..."
Lumar was stunned by this piece of news as were Schwenk and Tee-Lara.
"Erm....erm...." Schwenk spluttered. "Sorry, did you offer drinks?" he asked Selwyn.
"Where are my manners?!" He rang a tiny bell; in came the maid with a tray of drinks and lemon flavoured water.
Once the drinks were distributed, Sentina leaned forward towards Crys, "Tell me...what is Lord Lion-O like?"
The she-cat smiled sweetly. "I will defer that question to Shi...I mean Gaston....Apparently he and his lordship are quite chummy."
"Oh....erm....well, one doesn't like to gossip, not on an evening such as this..." he dodged.
Crys raised an eyebrow. "Oh come on Gaston...I'm sure Tee-Lara's parents would love to hear all that you and his lordship have done together!" She leaned back in her chair grinning.
"No, no...Tonight is about Tee-Lara...maybe I'll be invited back and then I can have some quality time with these good folks..." he dodged again.
Lumar tapped Crys lightly on the knee. "Gaston is right...this is not the time for gossiping about the Lair...Let it be..."
"Well...this is nice, isn't it?" Gaston continued. "You must have so much to ask Tee-Lara, Selwyn...I know Tee-Lara is full of questions for you..."
Selwyn nodded. "Well...actually..." He exchanged glances with his mate. "Why have you not contacted us? That is the part that hurts the most...not hearing from you, not knowing whether you were alive or dead. We have done our best to be good parents to you and I for one don't understand why you left the way you did!"
"Left? Contact? You disowned me!" she gasped. "You wanted nothing to do with me!"
Sentina grasped her mate's hand. "What else were we to do? After learning that...that you were selling your body! It was shameful to us...how did you expect us to react, Tee-Lara? You had EVERYTHING that money could buy!"
“Oh....OK...” Schwenk stood between the family. “Maybe this isn't the best time...this is about reconciliation, after all..."
"Ha...could have fooled me!" Crys muttered taking a dainty sip from her glass." Say...do you think I could have something stronger? Perhaps a brandy?"
"Probably best not a good idea..." Schwenk whispered to Selwyn.
The Siberian tiger raised an eyebrow. "I don't see any harm in serving something stronger...I think we all need it." He motioned for the maid to bring in a bottle of Thunderian Whisky instead.
"OK, but I have warned you..." he whispered.
Lumar watched worriedly as the serving maid gave the Sh'iar warrior a glass of the whiskey. "Crys...you're the designated driver...I don't think you should be drinking."
"Mind your own business lunk head!" She hissed downing the liquor.
"Lumar...." Schwenk jerked his head at the Sh’iar.
Tee-Lara rubbed her forehead. "Mum do you think we could eat? I'm actually quite famished."
"Of course!" Sentina rose. "If you will all follow me."
"Most certainly..." Schwenk clutched Tee-Lara's hand and followed her parents.
Lumar grabbed Crys' elbow; oddly enough she didn't resist and meekly followed as well. The dining room was huge and quite sumptuous there was an incredible buffet of food spread out...food that was actually palatable for the human i.e., cooked!
"Wow...smells great!! Someone has been busy!" he licked his lips.
Sentina smiled. "We wanted everything to be perfect and spared no expense. Gaston, I hope you will find the food delectable...please don't worry, there is nothing here that you can't eat...Do you like Sushi?"
"I eat raw fish, yes..." he smiled, "Really....you shouldn't have gone to all the trouble just for me!"
"You are part of the family....after all." Selwyn sighed; Tee-Lara hugged both of her parents. "Thank you...truly...thank you both!"
Schwenk smiled and winked at Lumar. He mouthed the words 'thank you' to his tiger brother.
Lumar shrugged and had a dour expression on his face which did not escape Crystalandra's sharp eyes. "What's wrong with you?" She whispered.
"I was hoping for a pleasant evening...that's all..."
Her purple eyes bore into the tiger's green ones. "You're not enjoying yourself?"
"I would if you lightened up just a bit..."
"Wha...what do you mean by that?!" The she-cat hissed. "I AM being pleasant for your information!"
"...and I thank you for that…"
Crys didn't know what to say, she was expecting an argument from the big cat instead he pulled out her chair to sit and she did silently.
"So, Selwyn....what line of business are you in?" Schwenk asked.
"Me? Oh...let's just say investments...investments in metals." The Siberian replied helping himself to a huge serving of salmon.
"Well, the market must've been kind....this is a lovely house..."
"Thank you very much...yes, my investments have paid of quite well." He beamed.
Tee-Lara smiled back at her father. "Nothing much as changed in the house...it is still the pretty much the same."
"Except for maybe one more person now that needed to be here..."
The tigress affectionately squeezed Schwenk's hand; Sentina gave Lumar a quizzical glance. "Is the food not to your liking there Lumar? Do you want something else?"
"No....it's fine, thank you..." he helped himself to some raw steak and started eating.
Crys wasn't fooled; she leaned in close to the Beni. "I wasn't born yesterday Lumar...you're not fooling me. You're not eating with your usual relish...you're bothered about something and it's not me that's responsible."
"You're his cousin? I cannot quite believe that, or that you didn't tell me..."
She sighed. "You never asked so why would I come out and mention that me and Lion-O are related? My dear cousin is not exactly thrilled about that fact either...Why should you care anyway?"
"Erm....I do work with him....Schwenk and I are now caught between two dangerous factions!"
"Well...I had nothing to do with it...If you want to pin the blame on someone, blame Argo...he knows about my family relations." Crys picked at her food. "What do you mean you work with him? You are working in the kitchen aren't you?"
"Not anymore...he's asked me to be his personal sparring partner!"
"You're kidding?" She eyed her mate. "No...You are quite serious...Hmmm...Yes...you'll have to be very careful not to let on that you know me..."
"Schwenk already advised me of that..." Lumar nodded. "He's a smart cookie..."
"He's a stupid hairless monkey." The she-cat admonished ripping the claws off her lobster. "Hey...if you are Lion-O's sparring partner, where exactly does Schwenk fit in?"
Lumar just smirked as he filled his face with meat.
Crys tapped her claw on the table thinking; she smiled realizing what her cousin had done. "You don't have to say a word...I already know." She waved at Schwenk across the table and gave him a wink.
Schwenk just smiled, in a confused manner. "What was that about?" he asked Tee-Lara.
The tigress shrugged. "Who knows...at least she is smiling! Crys and Lumar are actually getting along quite well!"
"About bloody time...This food is delicious....What are you going to eat?"
"I think I will be trying a little bit of everything...it all looks delicious!" Tee-Lara raised Schwenk's hand to her lips and kissed it. "I can't thank you enough for this!"
"You can thank me better, later..." he whispered in her ear.
The tigress blushed; Sentina seeing her daughter going an interesting shade of crimson raised a concerned eyebrow. "Tee-Lara? Whatever is wrong with you? Is it too hot inside? I can have the maid open a window for you."
"Yes, dear...you look a little on the warm side..." Schwenk pretended to be concerned too, trying to not smirk.
Tee-Lara coughed and gave Schwenk a little swat. "I'm fine mum...really...I think I ate something that was too spicy."
Crys rolled her eyes. "I think it is obvious what happened there..."
"Yes, Crys....spicy food..." Schwenk retorted bluntly.
"Yes...if you say so...Um Selwyn may I have a refill of whiskey?" The she-cat asked demurely batting her eyelashes.
"Say 'no', Selwyn..." Schwenk added.
Too late, taken in by her charm, the Siberian tiger refilled Crys' glass. "There you go, my dear...I must say you have the most stunning coloured eyes I have ever seen on a feline. What colour are they?"
Crys beamed. "Amethyst..."
"Tee? Have a quiet word with your father in a moment....he has to stop giving her booze..." he whispered to Tee-Lara.
"Okay...I will...I don't like how she is becoming overly friendly with my father." The tigress whispered back; Sentina tilted her head, "In fact Crystalandra your mate has unusual coloured eyes as well...green? I've never seen a feline with green-coloured eyes before."
“Eh? Oh?" The Beni spoke through chewed flesh. "My father had green eyes I'm told....I get them from him..."
"I didn't know that." Crys admitted. "You've never told me."
“Meh...I don't normally discuss family...only Schwenk knows about them so far..." he admitted.
"Interesting...” the she-cat replied. "But then again there is a lot that I don't know about you and you don't know any thing about me...Mind you I would say we're pretty even Steven." She gulped down the rest of her drink.
"It will improve with time...these things always do..." Schwenk added sagely.
"Says you!" Crys snapped and rose abruptly. "If you'll excuse me, I need some fresh air."
"Mind you don't fall over your feet..."
Selwyn quickly rose. "Perhaps I should accompany you outside Crys...just to make certain that you will be all right."
Schwenk glanced at Tee-Lara anxiously.
"Um dad...don't you think it should be Lumar who accompanies his mate to make certain that she doesn't hurt herself?" Tee-Lara turned to the feasting big cat. "Lumar, you had better go with Crys..."
"Mmm.....OK..." he rose and followed Crys outside.
They heard her protesting. "I don't need a chaperone for goddess sake! I am a big girl...I can look after myself!"
"Big mouth, more like..." Schwenk snorted.
"At least the good thing they're both out of the room." Tee-Lara whispered. "Give us more time to be alone with my folks, don't you think?"
"A bloody marvelous idea....but...just try to stay calm, OK?"
"With you by my side...I'll be fine." The tigress inhaled. "Mum...dad..." Selwyn and Sentina glanced at their daughter waiting. "I truly appreciate the fact that you are willing to...have me back among the family."
"Yes, thank you...." Schwenk added. "This means a lot to both of us..."
"We are happy to have you back, Tee-Lara." Sentina replied. "But may we ask that you don't rush into any hasty decisions about raising a family...just yet."
"Raising a....what? Kids?" Schwenk spluttered.
Selwyn nodded. "Yes...we're not ready to be...grandparents just yet...We have to prepare ourselves for that...especially knowing what...uh...how your offspring will turn out."
Tee-Lara stared at her parents wide eyed. "What do you mean by that?"
“I think what he means, hun....is that we don't even know if human-Siberian hybrids are possible...right?"
Her parents nodded; Sentina clutched at her throat. "Just...don't make any hasty decisions...all right dear?"
The tigress frowned. "If it happens...it happens...Whatever takes place...you'll just have to deal with it."
"We promise to be...well....considerate, that's the best we can do...is that OK?"
"Yes..." Sentina sighed; she glanced at the two empty seats. "I hope your friends are all right...They will miss dessert."
"As you may have noticed, there is a bit of an atmosphere, personally I'd prefer if Tee and I got a cab back..."
Selwyn scratched his striped head, "Didn't you all arrive together? It wouldn't be fair to just up and leave without letting them know that you've gone."
Tee-Lara touched Schwenk's arm. "Go tell Lumar then that we will be leaving...taking a cab home."
"Sure..." he rose, "Excuse me..." he walked outside looking for the ‘loving’ couple.
The loving couple was in the Rolls Royce and from the activity that was occurring Schwenk didn't think it would have been appropriate to disturb them. He turned and went back in the house.
"It's OK....they were busy....we can just take a cab when we're ready..."
"Busy? Doing what?" Tee-Lara asked.
"Oh....erm....talking things through..."
"Oh...well that's nice then...it means they're finally getting along!" The tigress exclaimed. "Are you ready to go home?"
"Sure, if your parents don't mind..."
"No...Not at all." Sentina rose from the table and went over to stand by her daughter. "I'll expect you to come again."
"We hope we do get invited....and again, thanks..." Schwenk bowed to Selwyn.
The Siberian tiger held out his hand to the human. "...And we hope that you will invite us to your domicile soon."
"We shall..we'll clear the two other doofuses out first, so don't worry..."
"Crys and Lumar are unusual felines...is she normally that...uh...unfriendly?" Sentina asked timidly.
“Oh no…she's normally a lot worse...she's been on her best behaviour..." Schwenk assured.
Tee-Lara elbowed Schwenk in the ribs. "Don't pay him any mind mum...Crys is a very nice girl...She just has some problems that she needs to work out...Anyway...I think our cab is here. Good bye and thank you both!"
Schwenk held her hand and left. They walked to the cab, both smiling.
The tigress glanced over her shoulder and quickly waved to her folks before climbing into the cab. "Hmmm...That’s strange." She said. "The rolls is gone..."
"Oh....well....probably gone for a nice drive..." he shrugged. He then relaxed and squished himself into the upholstery.
