Chapter 259
Zhao 2 was fast asleep when he felt something shifting. His military training kicked in and he opened his eyes but remained completely still until he found the source of the disturbance. Amayu was gone but she had left a note as well as a pot of tea for the three of them to drink before resuming their duties. It would work along with the sleep aid to keep them calm while enabling them to carry out their tasks. He drank a cup then padded across the room to the bed where his brother was sleeping. He placed a hand over his mouth and gently shook him then pointed at the wall.
Zhao 1 placed his hand on the stone wall behind him. He too felt the shifting and nodded. He sat up carefully so he wouldn’t disturb the bed’s other occupants. Zuko did not stir but Katara’s eyes opened.
“There’s a rat. We’re going to take care of it,” he whispered.
Katara closed her eyes and he drank the tea his brother gave them. He made sure she was once again sleeping before waving his hand across the wall and disappearing into the secret passageway.

Yi Chin had passed out again. Zhao 1 took the tea from his brother and poured it into his mouth knowing it would keep him awake and relaxed so he could finish with him. This time he moved slowly after having a glimpse of the boy’s eye color. They were the same bright shade as Harusuke’s while glistening with tears.
But this boy was not Harusuke. This boy was the one who’d frightened his friend and gave her nightmares. He truly believed what Katara said about kindred souls in other nations and believed Ty Lee was one of his. He felt peace and acceptance around her like he had with no other person and this boy had violated her.
