The word turtleduck stopped Azula in her tracks. She turned to Zuko in one sharp move. That adorkable smile was back. "What did you just call me?"
"I called you my turtleduck. C'mon couples have cute nicknames for each other. You call me Zuzu, it's only fair I get to give you a nickname."
"And you came up with "my turtleduck".
"Sometimes you remind me of a turtleduck, " Zuko saw Azula frown, "not now but sometimes you, remind me of an adorable" me moved over to her, "cute" he kissed between her frown brows "turtleduck".
Adorable and cute were to adjectives that no one used to describe Azula since she learned to firebend. No one would dare compare her to a turtleduck other than Zuko. "Zuzu, I am not going to answer to anything related to turtleduck. I am not going to be late for the meeting." She turned away from him and walked toward their private bath.
Zuko smiled and whispered, "There goes my turtleduck."

Powerful and poised were adjectives Azula used to describe Zuko as he sat before the Fire Nation military and political leaders. The backdrop of flames added a glow about him. She never said the words, but the look she gave fueled his confidence. Azula was on his right side, a position of power. It was where he wanted her to be always. All she needed to do was be at his side to give him strength. The anger and doubt permeating from his audience of leaders was no match for Zuko and Azula's partnership. The meeting had gone well until the floor was opened to discuss local issues.
"Fire Lord Zuko, I beseech you not to consider giving into the earth king's demands," said Governor Kraken, former Fire Nation general. "I fought for 35 years in the 100 years war. I know that Earth Kingdom mentality. They are going to push and push until they get everything they want and more. Once we back down they will try rising up and taking us out. We should take a stand and push back." The man locked his one good eye onto the fire lord. Many members of the audience grumbled in agreement with the balding gray haired man.
"Governor Kraken we need to approach this situation as diplomatically as possible. We don't want a second 100 years war. Pushing back will only make things worse."
"Fire Lord Zuko, can anything be worse than forcing our own people to move from their homes. Many of us have families in these colonies we understand how it really effects our people. If all the colonies have to move at once where are our people supposed to go. My children have a place," the old man's face softened a little, "but what about the others." The crowd was vocally in favor of Mayor Kraken’s position.
"I have a suggestion Fire Lord Zuko. May I speak?" Azula speaking with respect to Zuko quieted the crowd. All attention was on Azula.
"You have the floor Princess Azula."
"We'll create an exit plan for the colonies. First we'll move the Sho colony, which is the newest and smallest of the colonies. It can be our test case to see how long and what is needed to move colonies. The citizens will be offered free housing at Ft. Huuga. Fire Lord Azulon commissioned the fort before his death. The fort was never finished, but we can finish it while building the homes. Ft. Huuga is between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom. We can use it as home for the citizens and military. It is strategically placed battle station, if the Earth Kingdom dares to push us. All the earth king needs to know is that we need time workout the logistics. He's a simple man and will think our offer is a victory and a sign of compromise without question. After determining how many years moving colonies will take, Fire Lord Zuko will make the proposal to the earth king."
Fire Lord Zuko stood. "That is what we will do", he turned to Azula, "and Princess Azula will head the operation." Zuko gave Azula responsibility for one of the most important transition in Fire Nation history.
Comments about Azula being the second coming of Azulon and ensuring his legacy didn't bother Zuko. All he felt was pride. His wife's brilliance was going to be used in his goal to help the Fire Nation. Not everyone was happy with the plan. However, the overwhelming majority was in favor of the plan. The leaders whispered her praises as they left the throne room.
"That was a ", Zuko sat next to Azula, "good idea Princess Azula". The way Zuko said her name and title had a mixture of seriousness and sexiness.
Azula decided she liked hearing say her name and title that way. Maybe tonight she'd make him say her name and title. A naughty smile crossed her face.

"I'll tell you later tonight." She rose to her feet. 'I have a session with Miso."
"Wait". Zuko grabbed her hand. "I wanted you to know I appreciate what you did today. I am not just talking about the idea for the transition. You erased their doubts, and supported me. It means a lot to me having you by my side."
Her heart leaped a little. There was no faking it Zuko. He'd dare not try; she'd read right through him. She knew he meant every word. Today was a very different experience from the meetings she attended with Ozai. The pressure she felt to impress the fire lord was no longer there. Zuko immediately recognized her worth. Kira bowed before Zuko and Azula. "Please forgive the intrusion Fire Lord Zuko, Princess Azula. I have urgent news."
"What is it Chief Security Officer Kira?
"Fire Lord Zuko, we've captured Rinji. My men cornered him outside of the capital. Suigetsu remembered that Rinji had an ex-girlfriend in the area. On hunch I had my men to stakeout the place. Rinji showed up. He's in the special interrogation room as we speak. I was able to glean some information before he started throwing up. It wasn't from what I did. I asked our best healer to check on him. I didn't want to continue the interrogation without speaking to you first."
"I, I mean we" Zuko turned to Azula. She nodded in approval, " want to be there."
"I understand. We can go now if you wish."
Azula and Zuko followed Kira. They heard arguing. The door opened. Merchants from the United Merchants’ Association were in a verbal brawl.
"Fire Lord Zuko", different merchants yelled his name as they rushed in the room.
They all started yelling at once. Zuko couldn't understand who was saying what. "Quiet." The crowd hushed. "I know we were supposed to meet today but I have a pressing matter."
"Please Fire Lord Zuko, our meeting has been rescheduled three times already. If we don't meet today there may not be an association. Stores and venders will spin into chaos."
"I understand. That's why you'll be meeting with Princess Azula instead." Azula didn't say anything but the twist of her face told Zuko how she felt. "I have to leave." Zuko didn't want to leave her upset, without thinking he kissed her on the cheek. "I love you." The words slipped out as he pulled away. It was the first time he said those words in two weeks. Plus, he said it loud enough for most of the people to hear. "I have to go". Zuko didn't give Azula time to respond or react. He dashed into a sea of upset merchants to avoid her.
A messenger stopped Zuko and Kira shortly after they left the palace. The message was from Ozai. He demanded to see Zuko, stressing it was of the utmost importance. Zuko sent Kira to continue with the interrogation while he dealt with Ozai.

Ozai's anger filled the room. The contempt in his amber eyes burned through the bars of the cell, striking Zuko as soon he faced his father. Zuko refused to be intimidated. He approached his father's cell with his head held high. "What is so pressing it could not wait?"
"How dare you question me in that tone. After all I've done to help Azula, making up for what you lack, calling on favors, you go behind Sōsuke’s back."
"I don't know what you're talking about. I did"
"You interfered and had Kira's men pickup Rinji after you said you'd let Sōsuke handle things his way."
"I didn't send anyone. Chief Security Officer men found the culprit walking to his old girlfriends house. Her house falls in Kira’s jurisdiction. He didn't send his men to capture Rinji. They were staking out the place just in case he showed up. If he could have contacted Sōsuke he would have contacted him to let him know what was going on. Everything happened today and it was the first time I learned about it. How do you know so much about it?"
"Sōsuke told me before he quit. You made a mistake. Do you really think Kira kind handle this? Sōsuke learned more in a month than Kira the entire investigation. Now you're stuck with only Kira. Congratulations, it's your fault if they succeed at killing Az"
"Don't you dare say it" Zuko stood face-to-face with his father. The look in Zuko's eyes made Ozai thankful he was behind bars for a moment.
"Humph". Ozai turned and sat on his cot. "Nice to know you care so much for your little sister". The way Ozai said little sister sent a cold chill down Zuko's back. "Crowned Princess Azula, I mean Princess Azula wife of Fire Lord Zuko. I see you didn't bring her this time. I bet you didn't even tell her you were coming to see me. Someone is hiding something."
"I will tell Azula about this meeting. We don't keep secrets from each other."
"Your bond is that tight with the woman I sent to imprison you."
"You're the one in prison."
"Yet, you're afraid to let her come and see her father. I've only gotten to see her once since your marriage." Ozai watched Zuko's reaction. Zuko's angry expression did not change. "Come to think of it, now that you've runoff Sōsuke I don't have anyone to play Pi Sho with, Azula can fill that role. It'll be like old times." Ozai smirked.
"If that's all, I'm leaving. I have a nation to run." Zuko turned from his smug faced father.
"And about Pi Sho, Azula"
"I'll send uncle he's always up for a game." Zuko walked out the door.
"So am I, former Fire Lord Zuko". The thought Zuko being dethroned made Ozai laugh.

Zuko hurried back to the throne room. Rescuing Azula from the throngs of the United Merchants Association might win him some points. Calling her his turtleduck this morning and saying he loved her in front of 20 people was not the best move. The nickname was supposed be a compliment, a sign he saw them as couple. Saying, "I love you", was a major slip up. Zuko took a deep breath as he grasped the door handle. "Azula, will understand", he mumbled, opening the door.
"That was a quick interrogation," said Azula while walking to Zuko.
"No," Zuko's eyes scanned the empty throne room as he walked toward Azula, "where are the merchants?"
"The meeting ended about 10 minutes ago."
"Hmmm," Zuko wrapped his arms around Azula's waist, "to think I was coming to rescue you. They normally bicker like children for over an hour."
"That's why I treated them like children. I told them what they needed to do. They agreed I was right and the meeting was over."
"I should've had you to meet with them sooner. " He kissed her lips softly. "Speaking of meetings I just came from meeting with dad. Sōsuke refuses to work with us because Kira managed to capture Rinji before he did. Hopefully, we can get all we need from Rinji." He tilted her head up slightly. "You, don't have to come with me to the interrogation. I don't want him to upset you. He is the wretch that served you tea."
"I can handle it, Zuko. I want to be there when he breaks. I want him to tell me everything."
Zuko pulled Azula into his arms. He held her so close she could hear his heartbeat. She felt warm and safe in his arms. He kissed her on the top of her head.
"Please forgive the interruption", Kira's forehead touched the ground as bowed on his knees.
"What is Chief Security Officer Kira?"
"Fire Lord Zuko, Rinji is dead. He killed himself along with the healer and a guard."
"How?"
"Princess Azula, I wasn't there but from what I can tell. He he killed the guard. Then he killed the healer, but he was trapped in the healer's healing room. He mixed together the different herbs the healer had and made a poisonous drink. He was dead by the time the guards broke open the door. When I arrived the guards were moving the dead bodies."
"Unbelievable and unacceptable", the vein in Zuko's forehead was throbbing "How could you let this happen?"
"Please, forgive me. If I'd made it back in time this wouldn't have happen. I was able to get the name of the leader of the gang and a description."
"Who is it?"
"It's a waterbender criminal, named Haruto. One of the palace artists is working a drawing of the culprit now. I swear I will hunt him down. He'll pay for his crimes".
"Chief Security Officer Kira, make sure when you find him you bring him to us alive."
The middle-aged man looked at Azula wide-eyed for a moment. "Yes, Princess Azula." He bowed. "I will get started right away." Chief Kira bowed a couple of more times before leaving the room.
The fire lord gazed at his wife. "Zuzu I told you I want to know, why. You can't ask a dead man questions."
"No, you're right."
"Zuzu, after today's events you should've realized I'm always right."
"I will", he hugged her from behind, "make sure to remember that." He kissed her neck.
The way Zuko held her was something Azula enjoyed. Of course, she didn't say it out loud, but she always relaxed in his arms. Azula leaned on Zuko when he held her.
"Zuko", Aang paused after running to the room, his cheeked turned red, "oh sorry."
"Aang, no fair" said a winded Sokka, "you" the water tribesmen paused when he saw Zuko holding Azula.
"Sokka, Aang, when do you all get here?" Azula could hear the enthusiasm in Zuko's voice. His friends were back. She expected him to let her go. Zuko's grip loosened. He moved to her side. To her surprise he didn't let her go. He pulled her in close holding her with one arm around her waist. Zuko greeted Toph and Katara with a nod and smile when they entered the room. Everyone's focus was on Azula, who became less comfortable with Zuko's public display of affection.
"We got here less than an hour ago." Aang smiled. "The next full moon is a few days away."
"The full moon is all Twinkle Toes talked about on the way here."
"Toph, Aang is just happy because he believes he's figured out how the scrolls are cataloged."
"Really that’s great", Zuko paused as he felt Azula pulling away. He turned his attention to her.
Azula didn't look at him. "I have a session," she broke free, "I'm already late."
The fire lord watched his princess walk out the room. He really wanted to ask her to stay. Spending time with his friends was something he looked forward to and he wanted Azula to participate. He didn't want to force her into a friendship with them. "In due time", he whispered.

Azula found Miso mediating. She sat down next to the waterbender. Her stare was enough to get his attention. "I thought you cancelled today's session, Princess Azula."
Miso only used her name and title when he was in super sage mode. Azula sighed. "Miso, I thought you'd be happy to see me. Soon you’re leaving me to marry some girl. You should treasure the time we have together."
"I will always have time for you. Besides I haven't asked and she hasn't said yes." Miso looked up at the setting sun. "Next month this time I will be on my knee asking Hinata to merry me. I guess I'll be coming to you for marriage advice. I have to admit from the outside you and Fire Lord Zuko have a good marriage. You two seem well suited for each other. I like the changes I see in you since you two found your rhythm. You've changed him as well. He seems more confident and poised around you."
"Don’t tell me, Miso, now you like Zuko."
"I didn't say that." He laughed from the bottom of his belly.
A messenger ran over and presented Azula with a message. Miso read the change in emotions in Azula's face. "What's going on?"
"One of Sōsuke’s informants wants to meet with me alone. They want to meet near the old entry to the Dragonbone Catacombs in 40 minutes. It specifically states that I can't tell Zuko where I'm going. "
"You can't go it could be a trap."
"I may not be. It's says they will give me and only me the remaining info Sōsuke gathered before quitting to protect the legacy of Azulon. Sōsuke quit today. Only Zuko, dad, and I knew. Zuko told me one the of the reason Sōsuke worked with him was because I remind him of our grandfather."
"I am coming with you."
"You can come with me to get Toph, but you're not coming with me to the catacombs."

Azula and Miso found the Team Avatar in Zuko's throne room.
"Azula, your back." Zuko moved a few steps toward her.
"I came to get Toph." Azula smirked. "I need her to tell me if someone is lying. I don't have a lot of time so"
"Toph we'd appreciate any help you can give us." Miso bowed. "Please go with Princess Azula."
"Go where? Azula what's going on?" The fire lord moved closer to her.
Azula could hear the worry in Zuko's voice, but she couldn't tell him about the meeting. "Zuko, I don't have time to explain." She looked passed Zuko. "Toph."
"I'll go. I think it might be interesting."
Zuko grabbed Azula's arm as she turned. "Let go Zuko. I'll talk to you later. It'll be fine". Her eyes pleaded with him to let her go. Zuko released her arm.

"Where are we going?"
Miso leaned down to speak the earthbender. "You and Princess Azula are going the Dragonbone Catacombs. I will walk with you as far as I can."
"We're going to meet with an informant who knows about the people who poisoned me. I want you to tell me if the informant is lying. I am supposed to go alone, but they probably won't say anything because you're blind." She saw Toph stop. Azula rolled her eyes. "They don't know how much trouble you can cause. Think of it as hustle like you used to do."
"Why didn't you tell Zuko you were meeting with an informant?"
"I was told not to tell him. I’m confident you can tell if we're walking into a trap or not."
Toph cracked her knuckles. "I was right this could be interesting."

Azula and Toph were less than 25 yards from the catacombs when Toph grabbed Azula's sleeve. "It's two people not one. They're southeast of us."
Azula and Toph continued walking. An old man and woman emerged from the shadows. The old couple was dressed in fire sage outfits. The only light in the area was from the moon. The couple was too far way to see their faces clearly. Azula could tell by their movements they weren't sages. Their movements were stealthy.
"Halt" the old man walked toward Azula with his staff pointed at her, "what's the password?"
"There wasn't a password listed on the on the message."
The old lady bopped the man on the head with her staff, "You forgot to include the password."
"Maybe, I did but I didn't forget to tell her to come alone." The old man pointed his staff at Toph who was still holding Azula's sleeve.
"I had to hurry here. She’s blind I couldn't leave her. It's dark and dangerous." Azula's voice softened. "What kind of friend would I be if I did something so horrible?"
"Hmmm, I guess you're right. " The man moved over to Toph and started making silly faces.
"What are you doing, idiot?" The old woman tried to bop the man again, but this time he blocked it with his staff.
"I was testing to see if she was really blind." The man stared at Toph for a moment. Then quickly waved his arms. "Yep, she's blind."
"I guess it's ok, you didn't bring Fire Lord Zuko or any guards." The old lady bowed. "Sōsuke sends his regards. What I am about to tell you cannot be shared with anyone, until after you meet with Sōsuke the informant. Rinji was a just a hired hand. Sōsuke was letting him roam around so he could find the people who hired him. Rinji's services weren't cheap. Bringing him in was a mistake. Rinji was more valuable on the street. Rinji worked plenty of jobs for a set of earthbending twins named Tio and Tao. Sōsuke believes they are the ones that hired Rinji. The informant will be here in a few days. You cannot tell Fire Lord Zuko about this meeting. If you do Sōsuke will not allow you to speak with the informant. We will know, just like we know when Chief Security Officer Kira told you about Rinji's death. Do you understand?"
"I understand."
"That is all we have" the man backed up, "we'll be in contact with you." The old people disappeared into the shadows.
Toph held onto Azula's sleeve as they exited the area. The two walked in silence until they reached the halfway point.
"Were they lying?"
"No, they were telling the truth."
"That means I have to think of something to tell Zuko. I can't tell him about the meeting." Azula tapped her chin with her finger. Her eyes lit up. “I’ve got an idea. We’re going to see a man about some cabbages.”

"Lord Ozai did you enjoy your meal?" The hooded servant bowed before the former fire lord.
"It was tasty.” He looked the servant up and down. “We both know you're not here to talk about the meal."
"No, my lord. I have news. Rinji is dead. They say he committed suicide"
"That was quick."
"I also have more information on your children. The fire lord is in love with Princess Azula."
"Yes, I know."
"I've never seen him love so deeply. He told her that he loved her in front of the merchants association today. It was the first time he's proclaimed his love to someone in such a public forum. I've seen them together it is obvious to me and the staff he's smitten with her. He's cancelled all his early morning meetings for the next year so he can spend more time with her."
"Azula has done a better job than I thought. I guess it is expected she inherited her mother's beauty and everything else from me. Zuko didn't stand a chance."
"The princess is fairing quite well. She gained the trust of the Fire Nation military and political leaders today. Fire Lord Zuko put her in charge of the Fire Nation Colonies transition project. They're calling her the next Azulon"
The news brought Ozai to his feet. "Ha! She's making her move. I told her that they needed to see her as more than just Zuko's wife. She’s already taking power."
"That's all the news I have." She crawled closer to Ozai's cell. "Is there anything else you want?"
"You know what I want Saikura", Ozai pulled out his 8 inch member. "Now show me."
Saikura licked her lips. She opened her robe revealing her breast. The young woman had begun pleasing Ozai within a week of his imprisonment.
