Dib recoiled and dropped to the floor with Zim looming over him, looking down smugly. Dib blinked for a second, just laying on the floor. Zim had a gun? All this time... he had trusted him and.... He slowly sat up. Before he realized what he was doing he slowly brought his hand to his heart, knowing what he would fine. He felt liquid cover his fingers and he brought his eyes down to stare at it in shock. He then looked at Zim, his golden eyes just barely starting to take in the situation. Zim just threw back his head......... and laughed.
After a moment.... Dib broke into a huge grin and laughed too. Soon they were both holding their sides, tears nearly streaming down their cheeks from the effort. Dib stood up and brushed himself off as Zim just continued to laugh, unable to get back his breath. Dib however managed to get his breath back enough to choke out an actual sentence. "Zim... you really scared me for a moment."
Zim shrugged and grinned, his laughter finally starting to subside enough so he could speak. Laughter still danced in his eyes and he looked at Dib smugly. "You deserved the scare, Dib-human." He put his finger on the trigger again. Water shot out the end of it and splashed on Dib, soaking the front of his shirt. Zim had wanted to do that for ages.
Dib shook his head. "Your really something ya know that?" He looked at the gun, grinning in good humor. "You even painted the holding tank black so I couldn't see the water inside. " He laughed again. "But why keep it in your base? If you just wanted to give me a scare you could have done it anytime.
Zim turned away in embarrassment, setting the water gun in it's place. For a moment he didn't speak. Dib was going to ask again but realized just in time that Zim was trying to say something important. Slipping his hands into his pockets he waited patiently.
Zim finally took a deep breath. "I.... I thought that there might be a day. A day when we were... less than enemies." He turned around, instantly defensive. "I just thought it would be a good joke. That's all! I don't mean anything by it, I was probably never going to use it anyway! I am an Irken Invader and we are always trained to be prepared. There was nothing else to it!" And he turned again, marching over to a large robot , not looking at him. Dib grinned and went over to him a little ways away, looking at a variety of small useless looking trinkets. "Hey.... what are these?"
Zim blinked, slightly hurt that his moment had gone by unnoticed. He glared at Dib angrily, not realizing that Dib had said it to break the tense moment. He stomped over to him, refusing to look him in the eye. He picked up each one and explained what it was before setting it down.
Zim picked up the closest thing. A small red thing that looked like a large egg with two buttons on it. A green one and a blue one. "This is a shrinking ray, the same one that I used to get into your brain only a smaller model. Same result, only this one you can carry in your pocket. It's been upgraded since then to a portable size. The green button shrinks you, and the blue brings you back to the original size. There is also a device that does the opposite but it's broken right now."
He then picked up a small triangular shaped item. It was bright orange and looked rather like a child's play thing. There were three small holes at the tip of it. Clearing his through he said. "Human jeans and a human shirt with a popular band name on it." He then turned it so the base was facing him. He ran it up and down his body, from the tips of his antenna, to the visible bottom of his feet. Instantly, he was wearing the very items he had just said. The jeans were black, matching the shirt that had the word 'Metalica' written across it.
Dib suddenly stopped him, shaking his head. Zim looked at him in confusion. Was he not impressed by it? There was certainly nothing on Earth that could even hope to match it. Dib looked at Zim seriously. "I think there's something wrong with it." Zim looked down at himself. He was wearing exactly what he had asked for. The Dib however, didn't seem to think so. His face straight he said earnestly. "You said a POPULAR band name. Godsmack sucks big time."
Zim looked highly offended. "They do not! Their songs are great. I like their song 'Enter Sandman' myself but their other songs are good too."
Dib shook his head. "Zim what you need is some Simple Plan..... or maybe some Blink 182."
"Dib-human you are the one that needs good music! I'm starting to wonder if maybe the other earthling are right and you are crazy!"
"What are you talking about space-boy? Blink 182, Aliens exist? You cannot tell me that doesn’t make you think of your own life huh?"
Zim grinned and looked around innocently, gasping in mock-horror. "Aliens? What on Irk are you talking about Dib-human. I see no aliens here."
Dib laughed and shook his head. "Whatever Zim, but if your taste in music is that bad, it isn't going to need any help from me for the word to get out."
Zim laughed heartily, almost before he could stop himself. He had traded insults with the Dib before but this was different. There was no hate within the insults. No threats intended this time, no hidden meanings, just good natured jests.... and they had cooled his anger without him noticing. "Whatever Dib-human. But you are weirder than I thought." He picked up the next item. "I think you going to like this one... it's secret is the hamsters...."
Awhile later they were nowhere near being done. Zim hadn't even gotten through one wall... and there were more rooms to his base than just the one. And Dib was getting tired. His head had started pounding a few minutes ago and now he was constantly rubbing his temples, trying to ease the throbbing behind his eyes. Zim noticed this and looked at him sympathetically. He supposed it was a little like the first time he had landed on Earth and seen all the strange human things. Of course human things were fall less superior to Irken inventions. But they were strange and new none the less.
Zim suddenly glared. Why was he comparing himself to the inferior human? How could he even think that they were anything alike?! They were different races for crying out loud! There was nothing in common between the two of them! But still... Dib was tired and there wasn't much more for them to do there that day. Though there were no windows, because the base was underground, Zim's inner clock told him it was near nightfall and they hadn't had any lunch. Both of them were tired..... and Zim didn't want to go back to the Dib's just yet. It wasn't that he didn't like it at the Dib-human's residence... but he felt safer in his base..... and more over, he wanted to show Dib some of his life as well.
Zim cringed. It was true. He wanted to show the Dib at least some of the ways Irkens lived. This was probably one of the strictest laws of the Irken government. One of the only laws. Never to show yourself to another race... never to share your technology, tell your secrets, to them. Zim never thought that he would actually WANT to show another race his secrets. But with the Dib.... for some reason that he couldn't figure out. He wanted him to know these things. Taking a deep breath he walked over to Dib, who was fawning over a pair of high gravity shoes that made it easier to walk in space. "Hey Dib-human..." He said, his voice barely loud enough to hear. "Why don't we just..... stay here tonight." Although he didn't say it, he was inviting Dib to see how he had lived.
Dib turned, tired but happy. "I guess so. I mean it's not like you would kill me in my sleep or anything."
Zim blinked. It hadn't even occurred to him that he could kill the Dib. Why would he? He had willingly made himself a prisoner.... still....
"Dib? If I asked, would you take the band off my wrist so I could go back to Irk alone?" It was rather blunt... but he had to know. And he had never been good at being sneaky unless he was after something.
Dib looked at him with an unreadable expression on his face. Finally his gave hardened just a bit. "No." He said firmly. "I would not.... maybe we should go back to my house..."
Seeing that he was quickly loosing his chance to stay for a while in familiar surroundings, he grabbed the sleeve of Dib's jacket, idly remembering how Dib had let him use it, and looked up at him pleadingly. "No... wait. Let's stay here... ok?"
Dib sighed, running a hand through his black hair and letting it fall to his shoulders, the stubborn bit sticking to one side. "Alright fine. We'll stay here for the night. God knows I won't be missed."
Zim let out a small sigh of relief. Only then did he realize how hungry he was. His antennas quirked in embarrassment. "Dib-human.... let's get something to eat."
Dib blinked in surprise, having forgotten all about food. It wasn't the first time. Sometimes he went for days without eating, too caught up in work.... mostly in catching Zim. "Whatever." He agreed, turning to follow Zim, abandoning his examination of the gravity shoes. "Let's go."
Zim led the way from that room of the base. Immediately he came upon a maze of tunnels, twisting and turning, leading to rooms beyond rooms. But he knew his way around. He knew what was in every room and where everything in the room was. It was all stored in his mind, etched in by the years he had lived there. Confidently, he led Dib through various tunnels until he reached something that looked a lot like a human kitchen.... except that everything in it was different. It had a refrigerator.... if that's what you could call it. It was more like an advanced cooling system, used to keep food cold. Nothing was simple, it was all advanced.... superior to the human's technology.
Zim went over to the cooling system and opened it. What would the Dib-human want. By the look on his face he was obviously not expecting to eat alien food that's for sure. Grinning he finally chose a bright blue fruit, about the size of an apple, and a strange red liquid. Giving the blue fruit to Dib he looked at him encouragingly. "Try it." He said softly.
At first Dib seemed to be suspicious.... paranoid about trying it, but then his curiosity got the better of him and he took a big bite. Immediately his eyes closed in pleasure. It was sweet and crunchy. It's juice tasted a lot like a mix between strawberries and something else he didn't recognize. The actually meat of the fruit however, tasted a lot like oranges. It was very strange but very nice. Dib opened his eyes and flinched back, the clear red liquid held in front of his face. The red liquid was bubbling slightly, the bubbles popping at the top and letting out something that seemed to fill the air inside the glass with electricity. To be completely truthful, Dib was afraid of the strange liquid. Zim didn't seem to be though. He held it out. "Try it." He coaxed.
Zim could see that Dib was afraid of it. Afraid of something new, but Dib took it from him. Looking at it, he shrugged and closed his eyes, taking a long sip.
Suddenly electricity seemed to fill his mouth. The closest thing he could describe it to was a soda when you get the perfect amount of fizz... only it was so much better. Flavors washed into his mouth and disappeared as quickly as they had come, just to be replaced by others flavors, equally as good, all blending and fizzing.
Zim grinned. "Irken soda." He said proudly. "My personal favorite. They say that they never have the same flavor twice in any can or bottle."
Dib grinned blissfully, eating the rest of the fruit with animalistic hunger and washing it down with the strange drink. He was still hungry though, and Zim hadn't eaten anything.
Zim laughed. "I'll fix us a meal neh?" With that he busied himself around the alien kitchen, making Dib wait. Instead of having a table, there were a number of shapeless things on the floor. Dib was practically thrust into one as Zim pushed him out of the way. The thing immediately shifted to his body, adding just the smallest amount of space and softness to satisfy him. He found that if he wanted more room, or if he wanted to change position, all he had to do was mess with it a bit and it would shift accordingly. All in all it was very amusing.
In almost no time at all, Zim appeared with a tray of steaming...... something. He pulled one of the objects over and set the tray on it, the object instantly hardening to hold it. He took another and sat down, the object adjusting to his body. He looked at Dib who appeared to be backing away from the food. He looked at him curiously. "It's just protein." He said defensively. "In your human terms, meat."
Dib glared at him. "It looks like it wants to crawl off the plate and eat me!! And it's green."
Zim shrugged. "Yes." He looked down at the food. It was perfectly good. He had sliced it into bite sized pieces and he put one in his mouth, chewing slightly and glaring at Dib. "You don't have to eat it." He muttered.
He watched as Dib seemed to consider, then finally sat down again and took a piece tentatively. Putting it in his mouth, he chewed thoughtfully and swallowed. "Hey." He said softly, a look of surprise on his face. "It's not bad."
Zim sighed and took another few pieces, leaning back in his chair to eat them. "I told you." He popped one of the spicy pieces in his mouth as Dib chewed.
"It's kinda like KFC. " He said, thinking out loud. "Only spicier."
Zim rolled his eyes. He had no idea what this 'KFC' was but he was glad Dib liked it. Although it hadn't looked like much, Zim soon got full, not needing much food for his small body. He yawned loudly, stretching his arms above his head and exposing his pale green stomach before pulling his shirt down. In the end he and Dib had agreed on a plain black shirt with nothing on it. Zim still thought that Metalica was cool though.
He looked up as Dib finished eating as well and bent to pick up the tray. Before he could ,however, the tray lifted of it's own accord and drifted through the air to a large machine where it neatly slipped in to be washed. Zim couldn't resist closing his eyes and chuckling at him a bit. After all, he was like a little kid who had found a new place to explore.
He opened his eyes and his face flushed as he stared into Dib's familiar golden eyes. Dib grinned at his reaction to the closeness. Zim scuffled away but Dib pursued, grinning. Zim, face flushing more crossed his arms stubbornly. "What are you doing Dib-human?" He asked shortly, but he was unable to stop the slight tremble out of his voice, though a tremble from what, he couldn't tell. Dib grinned and gently slipped one hand under Zim's knees and the other behind his back, picking him up.
Zim let out a gasp and wrapped his arms around Dib's neck so he wouldn't drop him, feeling the strength in Dib's arms. "Dib-human...." He muttered softly, looking at the ground. "What-"
He was cut off by Dib's soft breath on his neck. "Where's your room?"
Zim swallowed hard and released him with one hand, just long enough to point, before clinging to Dib again... He had to point a few more times, but finally they got to his room.
Much like the nest he had made at Dib's house, it was made out of blankets..... only his was unique. Instead of being many blankets strewn together, it was more like a few very thick blankets on the floor, a sort of mattress, and then other blankets on top of that for Zim to crawl under. What really made it strange, was that it wasn't just in a part of his room. The entire room was filled with the blankets. It was like stepping into one of the padded rooms that Dib had seen so much.... only the walls weren't padded, only the floor. And instead of pads, it was covered with the blankets. He set Zim down before climbing on himself. It was so soft! But at the same time it could be firm too. Depending on how you moved on it, it could go from being the firmness of his own mattress, to being so soft you nearly sank into it.
Zim rolled onto his nest. This was the perfect bed for him. It could go from being firm to soft in seconds.... and the Irken blanket was made in such a way that he really could sink into it. It was so deep that he had spent many a day, practically swimming through the blanket. Closing his eyes, he sighed in pleasure, scrambling further onto his Irken nest.
As he scrambled foreword, his shirt rode down on one shoulder, exposing his flesh. He didn't think too much of it, until soft fingers made themselves known, tracing small designs over his shoulders and slipping down his shirt to his back, stroking softly. Zim's eyes slid open in time to see Dib slide closer, pressing Zim against him. A low purr rose up in Zim's throat and for once he didn't try to stop it. He was in his base, and he was tired by the full day. Besides..... it felt kinda nice.
Zim's eyes closed again, letting the Dib touch him softly, only resisting the smallest amount and purring softly all the while. He didn't even pull away that much when the Dib took one of his precious antenna into his mouth, sucking on it softly as he had done the first time. Zim sighed in pleasure at the feeling, as Dib pulled a smaller blanket over the two of them. His hands slipped under Zim's shirt and Zim allowed him to pull his black shirt off so Dib could reach the flesh below. Tingles raced through him as Dib himself, removed his shirt, jacket, and pants, leaving him in boxers to sleep in. Trembling slightly, Zim opened his eyes long enough to follow suit. Usually he would sleep without anything on, but with Dib he felt embarrassed about his alien body so he too slept with boxers. Soft blankets brushed against even softer skin. Dib's arms wrapped around Zim protectively and for once, Zim was too tired to do anything but nuzzle up to the offered warmth. Green skin contrasted Dib's pale flesh. Gold eyes met crimson before the crimson slipped shut. Dib's chin resting on his head, Zim fell asleep to the feeling of Dib stroking his antenna, purring even in sleep.
Anyone seeing them would think the same thing that Zim was thinking subconsciously. It was so strange....... but at the same time...... there was something...... just plain RIGHT about it.

That's all for now! Sorry about this chapter. I had a few ideas I wanted to get out, and so I put it into alien technology. Also, if your confused about Zim's room, it's not that hard to explain. It's basically a bed that covers his entire room. And it's really soft and it's got a lot of blankets. That's really all it is. I’m sorry for making it sound confusing. Anyhow I hope you'll enjoy this chapter. I tried to make it longer than usual just because I'm cool. ^^ Until the next chapter!!
