Becoming Mama Bear
Co-Written by Harley Quinn hyenaholic and Froggy22651

Harley: Yeah, I know I’m being a lazy bitch about putting up these chapters. I’ve just been so preoccupied lately, with important things like preparing a picture of Starscream for easy gayness, and watching sci-fi comedies, and TMNT too. Don’t worry, robots are still sexy.
Froggy: This is even more despicable for the fact that Harley actually has several chapters ready already.
Harley: Bumblebee returns this chapter. It’s a rather short chapter, but inspiration didn’t hit well. I can’t believe it took me ALL THIS TIME to get up off my ass and post it.

Chapter Twenty: Homecoming
It wasn't long before the quick trip in Dirge's arms across the sky was over, and Bumblebee was again facing the base that he and his fellow Autobots had called home. This time, however, approaching it felt different. It didn't feel like a place of familiarity or comfort but something almost... threatening.
What the frag was wrong with him?

"I'm going out to find Bumblebee," Hotwire told Ratchet, "I refuse to wait one moment longer! I don’t care what you say, I don’t care if you try to stop me-"
"For static’s sake, Hotwire!" Ratchet scolded her, "At least take an Autobot com link with you so we know when you've found him!"
"There's no time for that!" Hotwire returned, "I'll use a phone booth... or something... maybe."
Ratchet grumbled in irritation. It was obvious that the femme had decided to ignore all reason. But since the others didn’t know her as he had, he also knew this was an improvement – that she was telling them at all. Before, she’d have just... left.
He was just about to try out his final argument when the doors to the base opened up... revealing the very Autobot she had been so worked up to go searching for.
The Autobots - and Hotwire - all spun to stare at Bumblebee. There was a three-second-silence, and then Hotwire knocked Ratchet right out of her way to run over to him. Sari was close on her heels, and wrapped her arms around Bumblebee's leg.
"Bumblebee! You're back!" Sari squealed happily, tears pouring down her cheeks.
"Bumblebee!" Hotwire embraced him tightly, "You scared me! How DARE you put the fear of Primus into me! Why did you run off like that! WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?!" her voice rose as she practically shook him.
"I'm... I'm fine!" Bumblebee insisted, torn between greeting Sari and defending himself from Hotwire. Shifting back and stumbling slightly as he put too much weight on his roughly-patched leg, he added, "Mostly."
"Why... where..." Hotwire looked almost as ready to burst into tears as Sari was.
"Now all ya need is 'how' and we're set," said Bulkhead.
"Bumblebee!" Sari shouted, "Why'd you run off like that? Everybody's been so scared!"
"I just... needed to get away for a while,” Bumblebee replied down at the young human and the medic, shrugging, "Gosh, it's not like I was even gone that long. I'm fine, see? Well... I did kinda mess my leg up." The Autobot smiled sheepishly.
"You'll have to come and talk to me as soon as you get the time," Ratchet rumbled at him.
"You got HURT?!" Hotwire said, looking down at his leg, "I knew you'd get hurt! Didn't I say he'd get hurt?!" she told the others.
Bumblebee couldn't understand it. Everybody else seemed to be relieved to see him back, but Hotwire seemed so angry at him, "Hey, chill out, Hotwire!" he told her, trying to get the angry femme to calm down, "It's alright. It's just a dent. I've had worse, alright?"
Hotwire tried to calm herself down, but the anger didn't start to subside until Prowl put his hand on her shoulder, "It's alright. He's safe now,” Prowl told her in a soothing voice, "But he hasn't learned his lesson, apparently." This drew an angry glare from Bumblebee, who determined that Prowl would be the first to get bugged.
Hotwire cooled herself down a bit more, "I'm just glad you're safe, Bumblebee," she said finally, "And I think we need to talk in private. All three of us," she gestured between herself, Bumblebee, and Prowl.
"I think that might be a good idea, Bumblebee," Optimus agreed calmly.
Bumblebee grumbled softly before replying, "Oh, fine. But I'm doing alright. Honestly. There isn't any need for this."
Hotwire and Prowl walked with him to his room. He sat down on his bunk, while Prowl leant against the wall. Hotwire closed the door quietly. Then she turned to face him, "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!" she screamed at him, "Did you think you could just run on out, telling nobody where you were going? Did you think it was going to be a laugh?" she asked Bumblebee, "Look! You got hurt out there! You could have been offlined!"
After a brief second of shock, Bumblebee snapped back at her, "Yeah, well I wasn't! I'm not in the Elite Guard, and you're not my designer, so don’t act like it! If I want to go out on my own, I can!"
Hotwire managed - barely - to contain her anger by reminding herself that it was true. And that shouting at Bumblebee would get her nowhere, "You ran off because you saw me and Prowl kissing, didn't you?" she said, sitting down beside Bumblebee.
Bumblebee, uncomfortable and frustrated as he was, scooted slightly away from the medic. "Yeah. So? I don't want to see that. So I felt like getting some fresh air. Big deal."
"You went and you got fresh air for two days," Hotwire replied, "TWO FREAKING-" she caught herself, "Are you... uncomfortable with me dividing my affection between you and Prowl?" she asked him, getting straight to the point.
Crossing his arms over his chest and looking away from her gave her the answer she needed. Prowl just shook his head slowly. This caught Bumblebee's attention, who angrily replied, "What are you looking at? Stop talking to me like I'm a youngling!"
"Then stop acting like one,” the cyberninja retorted calmly.
"Bumblebee," Hotwire told the yellow mech, "I can care for you just as much as I care for Prowl. I just care for you in a different way. Can you please try to understand that?" she asked him, curling her fingers underneath his chin to get him to look at her. The yellow Autobot refused to turn his head, "Bumblebee," Hotwire repeated, "Don't make me choose."
Finally, he turned his head to look at her, and he plainly saw the horrible conflict going on behind her optics. For a moment, the yellow mech felt guilty for what he did to her and what he was still doing. "I'm sorry,” he said at last, "But... but that doesn't mean I have to like it! I just... " Sighing, the young mech moved in to hug her. "I just want you to be happy."
"Happy..." the word felt alien to Hotwire. She hadn't been truly happy for a long while. 'Satisfied' had been her best bet, "Here, with you and Prowl and your friends and your appreciation, I can be happy. Probably. Maybe. Perhaps," she said, "Either way, I'm still here, and you can still trust me, right?"
"Yes, I trust you,” he said. The words felt hollow to him when he would be bugging her in a matter of breems.
Hotwire relaxed, gesturing to Prowl to come closer, "I helped you," she told Bumblebee, "And you helped me. And as a medic, Patient Confidentiality is a priority for me," she told him, "Everything that happened in that base is just between you and me, until you say otherwise. I can keep a secret," she smiled, "Forever."
"Thank you,” Bumblebee spoke quietly, holding onto Hotwire and Prowl. In that moment, he came to the very edge of admitting the truth to the both of them, to admitting his deception and mistrust of them, and the only thing that held him back was the fear of what would happen if he did. Quietly he patted Prowl on the back, placing a second bug on him too.
"You're a good little mech," Hotwire let go of Bumblebee and rubbed the top of his head, "You're young, and you're smarter than I was at your age. I know you can't understand right now, but I can promise you that someday you will. And I always hold up on my promises." She stood up again, "Now let's get you and that leg to Ratchet and Sari. I'm sure that the AllSpark key will get it sorted."
Bumblebee sighed again, rubbing his aching leg. "That would be nice,” he agreed, "It wasn't damaged very badly, but it sure hurts like it was!"
"I expect you just tripped or something," Hotwire told him, trying not to nag, and helping him to stand, "You don't want to hear me nagging at you all the time, so this is a job for our other resident pessimist. Come on with you..." She and Prowl helped Bumblebee limp to the med-bay.
Once inside, Bumblebee was set down on the table, and Sari and her key were called in. Hotwire watched for a few more minutes, before smiling tiredly, and leaving the room. Standing there and worrying wouldn't do anybody any good.
She was just so tired...

Harley: Yeah, Hotwire just performed some serious self-harm. She’s a god-damn mess, isn’t she?
