Opening the gates to Arendelle
Chapter one
Setting the stage
Two months later…
“What do you mean are material stocks are running low?” Elsa asked, worry in her eyes as she discussed Arendell issues with her council.
“My queen, I’m afraid to say, it’s not just that… but the kingdom of Corona is also refusing to do business with us.”
Elsa began to feel nervous, fiddling with the material on her blue glove’s, how could this be? In a matter of months since she had taken the throne nearly every kingdom had pulled away from Arendell. Was it her? Did they think she was still cursed? Still a danger? How did they even find out?
“Your highness” Charles began, another advisor, an old man who was close to her father began. “Your subjects are beginning to worry, businesses are closing, farmers are looking for different ventures as without trade, there are something’s they can’t do, not to mention they are losing a huge amount of their business. Within a month… within a month are stock could hit an all-time low. Without a change, people could starve and most will go out of business, homeless or poor.”
The blonde-haired beauties eye’s widened at his words, her heart sinking at the thought of her people suffering. It was then another advisor spoke, all eye’s turning to him.
“Your people love you though Elsa, while bad things are happening, your approval rate is still insanely high. They believe if anyone can pull the kingdom out of this mess it’s you.”
She had to gulp at that, her people, her loving people believed in her yet she was clueless on how to help. She wished Anna was here, but she was currently on a little private break with Kristoff, her sister always inspiring her to do better. When she looked around the table, she noticed one advisor, George, a portly yet always smiling fellow looking surprisingly uneasy.
“ George.. what’s wrong?” Elsa asked sending the man a comforting smile.
She heard him let out a breath, a shaky one at that as he struggled to get his word’s out.
“I-I don’t want to upset you my queen, it’s just, it’s just our scouts in other kingdoms found the reason our allies have dropped out of trade deal’s.”
Elsa sat up in her seat slightly, her plump sweet lips pursed as she nodded for him to continue.
“It turns out…” George began, before sighing slightly. “It turns out, the duke of weselton had more influence than we thought. A lot more, so much so he holds sway in nearly every kingdom except ours. When word got around you deported him, I’m guessing from his own mouth, well it made Arendell basically toxic to partner with.”
“But he tried to have me killed, was on Han’s side...” Elsa began but fell silent, not knowing what to say.
The council members looked at her with a solemn expression, they hated the man who dared do that to their beloved queen. But sometimes in politics, you had to know when to call a truce, this old bastard too powerful to not have on your side.
She knew by their look’s and knew in her heart for her people she would have to find an understanding with the Duke.
“I shall write a letter… I shall not let my people suffer” Elsa stated before standing to her feet, the men standing, giving a slight bow. “Good day men...”
Later that day….Elsa’s chamber’s.
Usually Kings or Queens made someone else write their letters for them, but Elsa was different. As she sat at her desk in her large, plush room, she began to write to the Duke… The man she despised for his treachery, quill In hand, scroll rolled out she penned a letter. Trying to word it carefully as not to seem desperate. After all, this man tried to have her killed, this man was a sneaky pompous little man. But the blonde needed him, needed to somehow get in his good grace’s, for her people.
Dear Duke of Weselton,
I queen of Arundel, seek peace with your kingdom after the event’s surrounding my coronation. As we grow as a kingdom, we believe in forgiving and forgetting so our people may prosper. So I pen this letter, in hope’s to mend bridges once burnt.
If this is of interest to you, I am willing to open discussions of trade between our fair kingdom’s. Awaiting your reply eagerly
From the hand of queen Elsa of Arendelle.
With that, Elsa placed the stamp of her kingdom on the bottom, before rolling the scroll up and finding the kingdom’s messenger. Weselton was a few day’s journey, but it was of the up most important the letter was delivered.
Two days later, Weselton...
Sitting at his desk, the duke of Weselton re read the letter he had received… from her. It had been two months’ since he had laid eyes on her, Elsa, the ice queen. And it had been two months of anger, lustful dark fantasies and a pining heart all mixed into one. The old, wrinkled man couldn’t get the stunning women out of his mind.
Still, she had embarrassed him fully and for that, he had put into action his revenge plot. She didn’t want trade with him? Well that meant trade with no other as well. But to see a letter from her sitting in front of him, wanting to make amends… it was something he hadn’t foreseen. But when he thought about it, the old man began to smirk, his withered lip’s a horrid sight. A thought entering his mind, the position he now held…. Could it mean his dirty fantasies could become a reality? His mind working quickly, plotting, all the while his old cock hardened at his thoughts. So he quickly began to write back, short, harsh, but still enough to get a reply.
To Elsa, the ice queen….
I was shocked to receive your letter, especially after the humiliation I was submitted to after trying to apologize for my misguided deed’s. I am not sure Weselton wants ties with such a kingdom, you state forgiveness and growth but showed none to a man of my esteem, a man who has been around for so long, who’s played the game since you were a mere child.
Anyone in my position, who had seen what I’ve seen in my lifetime would have been wary of you and the power you possess, so tell me, tell my why I should grant you forgiveness when you so unrationally threw away a chance for me to gain mine?
And so it went on, the two sending letters back and forth, Elsa not realising in her haste to save her people, that she was sounding more desperate by the letter. It gave the Duke time to gage if she was ripe for the picking, if she truly would do anything. And when he thought it enough, he wrote one more….
To Elsa
Your highness, I’ve decided to be generous and offer you a chance. If you accept my request, your ideas of trade may well come to fruition. To prove your letters are sincere, I offer you a chance… To prove you see Weselton as a just kingdom, I request you take a trip here, spend a week or more and see were not just a city your sister and you can mock with your funny name’s. After all, I still remember the weaselton jibes you made.
If that suits you, then I await your reply.
The Duke of Weselton.
While she didn’t enjoy the thought of going, once she received the letter, Elsa was happy for the olive branch she was given. What she didn’t realise, was the Duke didn’t have the thoughts of peace and trade on his mind.
