Moana and Elsa watched as the new island drew closer, and they smiled at each other. The days had flown by for the pair as the fleet of boats made the journey from Motonui. And their relationship had blossomed in full in the last few.
There had been only one monster attack the whole trip, and it had been swiftly dealt with by the pair of demi-goddesses. The few times they had been alone had been special to them, though they had dared not act on their feelings while on the boat. With the island in view, they were planning on taking to the air in eagle forms to scout ahead and make sure it was safe for everyone to land there, and take some personal time for themselves.
They carefully watched the island grow as the boats neared it, and then nodded with smiles to each other. Their skirts swirled around their legs as they approached Chief Tui, Moana's father, and the chief of the tribe. He read the smiles on their faces easily.
“I take it you two are scouting ahead to make sure it is safe?” Tui asked the obvious question with the obvious answer.
“Yes. And we want to make sure the island doesn't already have owners. I think this is one of the restored islands, but we can't know for sure,” Moana said simply.
“We'll come back and let you know if it is safe or not before we take some personal time,” Elsa pointed out as she pinched Moana on the butt, making the brown skinned woman squeak and jump. Moana's little tattoo version of herself glared wickedly at Elsa's, even as Elsa's smirked. Tui just snorted in amusement at the animated tattoos, and by play of his newly returned lost daughter and her “friend.” Of course he was aware of where their relationship was going. And he did approve of it, as he had told them a while ago. He just wanted to get to know his daughter.
Elsa and Moana then walked to the bow of the platform of the big boat, and both transformed into eagles and flew towards the island faster than the boats could manage. Though the boats were slowing to let them have ample time to discern how safe the landing was. The pair flew hard and fast as they wanted that personal time, badly.
They swooped over a bright blue lagoon and then over a densely packed jungle. However, Moana did spot the shapes of buildings in the trees and alerted Elsa as she swooped down for a landing. Elsa joined her promptly and the pair found a completely overgrown, and obviously abandoned village. They wandered down what used to be well trod paths as they explored the ruins. It quickly became obvious that the village had been abandoned for well over a century from the sheer level of decay.
Moana shook her head as she saw the skeletons laying about various buildings. “Damn it. We needed to have gotten Te Fiti restored long ago,” there was bitterness in her voice.
Elsa came up and hugged her tight. “It was the best we could have done,” she said in a comforting tone.
Moana relaxed into the embrace, “I know. We are only new demi-goddesses, and Maui was being punished. There was no one else. The gods themselves couldn't have done it, as they explained to me that they were bound to not interfere beyond sending us out to do it. Well, me initially, but you came along just in time.”
“And so stop blaming yourself for letting this happen. You couldn't have done anything. This place was dead long before you or I were even conceived,” Elsa said softly.
Moana nodded, and the pair continued their search. Ultimately they found nothing but the usual array of birds and animals. They satisfied themselves that there were no people left on the island, though they did note a nice little pool with a waterfall that they agreed to make use of as soon as they got the boats informed. So they transformed and flew back to the boats.
When they arrived, Chief Tui walked up, “So, how is it?” he asked.
“There are the remains of an abandoned village, but other than that, nothing dangerous, except maybe some snakes and such, but no people and no monsters,” Moana said.
“Good, now, I know you two are burning for it, so while we land and deal with the remains and ruins, you two go get some quality time,” he ordered.
The pair just smiled broadly, transformed, and then flew back to the island to the little hidden pool. There they transformed back and took off their skirts even as they laid their weapons to the side of the water. Then they waded out into the fresh and clean water and began washing themselves off. That didn't last long as Elsa came up behind Moana and grabbed Moana's breasts as she nibbled playfully on Moana's well tanned and toned shoulders.
Moana moaned and relaxed into it. She closed her eyes and let herself focus on the feel of Elsa massaging her medium sized breasts, and Elsa kissing and nibbling on her neck and shoulder. Finally Elsa stopped and Moana opened her eyes. Elsa then took her by the wrist and led her to the far shore away from the village. When they got there, Elsa gently pushed Moana down to the ground. Elsa was quick to sit on top of Moana's wet hips, and then leaned down and kissed her hard.
Even though they were different heights, their torsos were about the same length, and their builds about the same, though Elsa's curves were softer and her breasts larger. Both women lay there, their lips locked in passion, for a time. Eventually Elsa began deliberately rubbing her leg against Moana's sex even as she let her hands grope the brown skinned woman's breast.
Moana wasn't about to let it go unchallenged, as she put her own legs and hands to use. She rubbed her thigh against Elsa's hot sex even as her fingers found Elsa's rigid and large nipples. She gently tugged on the nubs and twisted, which made Elsa yelp a little even though their mouths never parted. However, Moana was far from done with the milky skinned blonde, and using her leverage, flipped her over on her back in the mossy shore bank and continued her assault.
Finally, Elsa had enough and broke the kiss, “Mercy!” she demanded.
“None shown,” Moana growled back as she moved to start kissing down Elsa's neck and shoulders. “I'll show you how I conquer,” Moana promised between kisses.
Elsa had never seen this aggressive side of Moana in their short time together, and she loved it! She just relaxed and let Moana take the lead, focusing on the sensations of Moana's gentle bites and tender kisses. Slowly, Moana worked her way to the pink bud of Elsa's breast, and took it in her mouth. She grazed the nipple with her teeth before she bit down, gently again.
Elsa moaned in pleasure, and her hands finally released Moana's breasts and instead found their way into the brown skinned woman's raven hair. She just relished the feeling of Moana's hot breath and gentle bites on her nipples. Her moans became audible and she felt a building pressure in her loins at the base of her spine. Moana seemed to notice, and bit down, gentle, but hard on Elsa's nipple, even as her fingers twisted the other one slow and hard.
Elsa screamed in ecstasy as the orgasm ripped through her body. Moana didn't relent though, and kept pushing orgasm after orgasm with the constant pressure on Elsa's nipples. Finally, Elsa relaxed as the last orgasm subsided, and she smiled in pure bliss. No one had ever done that to her before, not that she had ever really been interested in anyone until now either.
Moana relented as she felt Elsa relax from the last spasm. She looked up and smiled like a predator facing easy prey at the smile on Elsa's face. “Liked that, did you?” she challenged.
“Oh, my love, you have no idea,” Elsa replied.
Moana smiled as she climbed back up Elsa's torso and kissed her deeply again. When she broke it, she looked Elsa in the face, “Surrender, and be my slave, Island Lilly,” she demanded.
“Mmm... Never,” Elsa challenged Moana back.
Moana smiled that same predatory smile, and then moved down so that her face was just above Elsa's hips. “Then I'll make you,” she promised.
Moana then slowly began kissing and nipping first at Elsa's pale hips, then her thighs. Every kiss, and every nip brought her closer to her intended goal, and Elsa had to force herself to not writhe as every one of them sent shivers up her spine and through her pussy. Finally, Moana reached the place where Elsa's thighs joined her hips, and she nuzzled her way in among the pale blonde curls. A simple flick of her tongue almost sent Elsa over the edge again, as Moana's hot breath hit her fully erect clit and fiery hot sex. Moana sensed it, and she looked up from her intended meal.
“Beg me for it,” she teased.
“Please,” Elsa begged.
“Please what?” Moana continued the tease. Honestly, she was getting off on it as much as Elsa was, and she was making it all up as she went.
“Please fuck me till I cum!” Elsa begged.
“Then say you surrender and will be my slave, Island Lilly,” Moana pushed.
Elsa moaned and bit her lip, but finally relented, “Yes, I surrender! I will be your slave! Your Island Lilly! Just fuck my brains out, please!”
Moana smiled, and dove back into Elsa's pink folds and teased her pussy hard. This was her first partner, so she was a little clumsy, but both of them being women, she had a better idea of what worked. Her tongue and fingers worked Elsa's sex hard, eventually finding the little bundle of nerves within and Moana was rewarded with Elsa clinching down hard as another orgasm prepared to crash through her. Moana pushed her over that edge by biting the blonde's little pink clit.
Elsa came hard, the orgasm wracking her body and brain. Her cry was piercing in the quiet of the jungle, and even the sound of falling water from the waterfall couldn't mute it much. Any thoughts she might have had flew from her mind the instant the tidal wave of pleasure crashed over her. Even her back arched as the feelings washed over her.
Moana smiled as she watched Elsa rise and then slowly sink back to the soft mossy ground. Elsa's breathing was ragged and she was gasping for breath from the pleasure that had washed through her. Moana just crawled up and lay next to the pale blonde and smiled as Elsa slowly came back to consciousness. Elsa finally rolled her head over and smiled at Moana.
“Now that was awesome!” Elsa exclaimed. “Fuck, I have never felt like that! How did you know to do that?” Elsa asked.
“I made it up as I went,” Moana admitted. “But you seemed to be enjoying it so much, it was easy to do. How many others have you done this with?” she asked cautiously.
“None,” Elsa replied simply as she scooted over to kiss Moana deeply again.
“You were my first too,” Moana admitted when they broke the kiss.
“First and last, I hope,” Elsa affirmed.
“Yes, and deal,” Moana agreed.
They lay there a little while longer, until Elsa found the strength to move again, but Moana pulled her into another kiss, and Elsa smiled all the while. She was looking forward to this part.
“Now it is your turn to please me, my slave, my Island Lilly,” Moana purred.
“Yes, Mistress,” Elsa purred back.
Moana spread her legs invitingly, but Elsa wasn't going to make it that easy on Moana. Instead, Elsa crawled up Moana's body, and began kissing around her breasts, tweaking her nipple with one hand, while the other drifted down to Moana's hips, and slowly teased Moana's clit. Moana moaned as the ministrations sent waves of pleasure through her. Unlike Moana, Elsa did not nip or bite, but she was all too eager to tug and twist with her fingers, particularly Moana's clit.
Moana did writhe as Elsa assaulted her, and then Elsa did something that caught her off guard, and moved her fingers from Moana's pussy, to her ass hole. Moana shivered as Elsa teased her ass. Finally, Moana felt the pressure building at the base of her spine and knew she was close.
“More,” Moana moaned as Elsa worked on her, fingering her butt and nipples at the same time. Finally, Elsa slipped one of her slender digits inside Moana's ass, and Moana came hard. Her moans weren't as loud as Elsa's, but she was still loud enough for Elsa. Elsa wasn't done yet though. She was determined to at least get within shouting distance of where Moana had sent her.
She carefully withdrew her finger from Moana's butt and then as Moana came down from the climax, Elsa began working her pussy and clit. Moana couldn't even think with all the sensations ripping through her as Elsa never let up on her breast, began eating her pussy with an enthusiasm she found endearing, and continued fingering her ass hole. Elsa managed to put her on an edge and keep her there, being slow, letting her come down from the edge just enough that her next tease didn't just send her over.
“Fuck! Damn it, Island Lilly, just fucking fuck me already!” Moana cried, and Elsa was only too happy to oblige. She stuck three fingers deep in Moana's ass, as her tongue dived deep into Moana's pussy, and she twisted her nipple with her other hand. Moana screamed as the resulting orgasm bowed her back and had her hitting a high like she had ever known Elsa finally relented in her assault, and check to see if her fingers were still clean, and then crawled up to lay next to the writhing Moana.
Moana's orgasm seemed to go on forever, but she eventually came back down and was panting hard. Elsa smiled at the raven haired, tanned woman next to her. Honestly, she thought, they made for a wonderful contrast. Moana's deep tan and raven hair was a good match for her optimistic and aggressive personality, while Elsa's snow white skin and pale blonde hair were a good match for her more submissive personality and easy depressions. Though Moana had been keeping her depression at bay far easier than anyone else had ever managed.
Moana turned to face Elsa and she smiled with satisfaction and contentment. “Good girl, Island Lilly. That was wonderful. I'd never considered my ass before.”
Elsa smiled back, “I just had an impulse is all. I remembered the one or two times I sat on my throne wrong and it felt like the cushion was trying to ride up my crack. I remember it being something my body liked, weirdly enough.”
Moana moaned, “Mmm... Good instincts.”
Elsa smiled broadly as they laid there in the after glow of fantastic first sexual experiences. Finally, they both found the strength they needed and they sat up. Then they noticed something else. Their tattoo selves were each leaning against a new tattoo above their breasts, smiling impishly. The new tattoo showed a figure that was supposed to represent Elsa kneeling submissively before a representation of Moana, and the Moana figure appeared to be holding a leash leading to the Elsa character's neck. Then the Elsa tattoo figure pointed up at Elsa's head, and Moana started laughing as around her neck was a tattoo of a collar like one would lead an animal with.
Elsa looked a question at the laughing Moana, who had to force herself back under control. “Appar... Apparently the magic feels that the nature of this relationship was enough of a conquest to make it permanent! You have a collar tattoo!”
Elsa looked at Moana in momentary bewilderment before it dawned on her and she started laughing herself. “Apparently I am your slave now, forever,” Elsa got out between fits of giggles.
Moana smiled at Elsa with fondness, “I don't mind that in the least.”
“Neither do I,” Elsa replied happily.
“Hey, let's negotiate this later. We should get cleaned up and then go see if the villagers need any help,” Moana said cheerfully.
Elsa laughed brightly, “Sure thing!”
They waded back out into the pool and both dove under the waterfall and let the small cascade of water wash over them. Finally, they both waded back out of the pool and wrapped their skirts around their hips. They were just picking up their weapons when a shrill scream echoed through the jungle. They looked at each other and then ran at full speed towards the ruined village where the other villagers likely were.
When they got there, neither Moana or Elsa had ever seen what they saw before. The bones of the long dead previous villagers had risen and begun to encroach on the villagers even as they were forming a line of defense. Moana and Elsa didn't wait, and charged in and slashed at the skeletons with their weapons.
Bones shattered, and then simply reformed as Moana's spear and Elsa's sword struck the bones. Again and again they tried to destroy the walking dead, but it was to no avail. Moana spared one look to the villagers, then to Elsa.
“Get back to the boats and get away from shore!” she cried to the obviously terrified villagers. “We'll find out what is going on here!”
Elsa just nodded, and the pair then focused all their energy on battling the unrelenting tide of undead, trying to keep as many of them away from the villagers, who heeded Moana's cry and were fleeing back to the beached boats. The skeletons seemed to realize they only had two left that they could get to, and all of them turned on Moana and Elsa. The pair nodded, but they knew it was a losing battle. All they had to do, though, was ensure that everyone made it back to the boats safely.
And so they fought, swirling skirts swishing even as the utterly silent skeletons tried to take swipes at them, the only real sound was shattering bones as the magical weapons struck. Finally, Elsa noted that the boats had pulled away from shore, and she turned to Moana.
“They're away. Let's go!” she shouted.
“Right!” and the pair of them transformed into eagles and rose into the air to escape the animated bones. They flew up to one of the high peaks and checked for any other undead, and then landed. When they transformed back, the pair looked at the ruined, though mostly obscured, village below them.
“What in the name of the gods was that?” Moana asked rhetorically.
“I have never seen such a thing, personally, but I have heard tales of cursed dead who can't pass on, and still rise to attack the living,” Elsa said, shaking her head trying to make sense of it.
“A curse?” Moana asked.
“As good an explanation as anything else, Moana. But the question is, how do we deal with this when we can't smash them, and have no clue what keeps them here?” Elsa replied with a shrug.
Moana thought for a moment. Then she looked up at Elsa, “They didn't react to the animals around here. Maybe we should transform into something and then try to take a look around. We only gave the island a cursory search when we got here, and we were a little distracted with, um, other things too.”
Elsa smiled at that last. “Yes, we were. And I think you are right. We need to go over this island with a fine toothed comb. There has to be something here that will explain what is going on.”
Moana nodded, gripped her spear, and turned into a boar. Elsa nodded and did the same. They both set out then to search the island from top to bottom. Every so often they returned to the ruined village to find the skeletons still there, standing and waiting for an enemy to attack. That worried them as it meant that the villagers had been the trigger and as long as they were close, the skeletons would be waiting.
It took two days for them to finish going over the island. Moana had gone to check on the boats and let them know they were still looking into things. She told them to hang close cause if they could find whatever was making the skeletons rise, they wanted to know it was destroyed when the walking skeletons fell apart at last. Which they couldn't do if the skeletons weren't still active.
The only thing of note they found was a cave. They both had agreed to wait on exploring it until the rest of the island was done. Nothing on the surface of the island gave any clues, in the end, so they returned to the cave entrance. There they transformed again, only this time into bats. They flew carefully into the cave, their echolocation guiding them.
Deep inside, they came to a large open cavern, and they landed and transformed back into humans. Moana cast her light magic again to light up the cave enough for them to see. They wandered among many stalagmites, the light casting deep shadows everywhere. Finally, they found what they were looking for.
Another skeleton was standing over some kind of alter, a bone spear at the ready. Moana and Elsa nodded, and slowly crept in on it, hoping that it wouldn't attack like the others. And it didn't. Instead the head turned and followed the pair, the empty eye sockets seemingly watching them. Then a ghostly voice seemed to echo from everywhere.
“Who are you to trespass here, where the dead reside?” the voice was feminine.
“We are the demi-goddesses Elsa and Moana, and we have come to claim this island for the living!” Moana challenged the disembodied voice.
“The living? Nothing lives here! Only the dead, cursed and burned by the darkness of Te Ka!” the voice replied.
So that was it! Another bit of fallout from Te Ka. Moana worried about how many other islands had been similarly cursed. Still, they were at least talking to something, so that was a start.
“We are demi-goddesses, and we have restored Te Fiti, breaking the curse of Te Ka! Your curse should have ended when Te Fiti restored life to the dead islands!” Moana tried to reason with it.
“No! The curse is not ended! The demon Te Ka's legacy still resides here! No living shall set foot upon this island, by its own decree!” the voice roared back at them.
Moana and Elsa looked at each other with confusion. Elsa then called out, “Te Ka's Legacy? What do you mean?” she asked.
“The demon is still here! The child of fire and earth! Seek the mountain cave unreachable by mortals!” the voice cried.
They looked at the skeleton, which didn't seem to react other than to watch. “May we see what is being guarded here?” Moana asked.
“Attack, and you will die! Touch and you will die! Gaze upon it, all you wish, but be warned!” the voice said again.
Moana and Elsa slowly lowered their weapons and the skeleton did likewise. They carefully approached and looked down at a fragile parchment scroll. On it, was a set of strange runes. They studied it, and then Moana recognized part of it. She turned to Elsa.
“I think this is a counter to the curse, or at least an attempt to. Maybe that is why this skeleton seems to not be as aggressive as the others, and why the voice speaks to us when the rest of them don't,” Moana tried to explain.
Elsa nodded in understanding, “Makes sense. These people knew they were being slaughtered and cursed, so why wouldn't they try to fight it? And at least one of them partially succeeded,” Elsa reasoned.
“It would appear so. The voice said a cave that no mortal could reach on a mountain. We may need flying forms for this,” Moana said.
Elsa nodded, and the pair of them left the cave unchallenged. When they got outside, they transformed into eagles and flew around the mountains of the island for the better part of the day. Despite that, they didn't see anything and landed on a cliff edge. They transformed again and Moana let out a frustrated cry. Elsa put her hand on Moana's shoulder to try and calm her.
“Hey, let's not give up yet. There must be something we are missing. Let's try it a different way. Maybe the entrance can't be reached because it is too small?” Elsa suggested.
Moana nodded. They then transformed into small bugs, even though it would take longer to go over everything, and began the search again. The sun had set and was just beginning to rise again when they finished and came back together at the same perch. They transformed and Moana let out another frustrated scream. Elsa was sorely tempted to do the same. They hadn't even seen the smallest hole that led to a cave, or even the signs of one being covered up.
Instead Elsa sighed, sat, and pondered the question, even as Moana stalked around the small ledge like an enraged and caged animal. There was something they were missing. She was sure the key was the part about it being unreachable by mortals, but she just wasn't sure how that worked. A small cave entrance made sense, as most mortals couldn't have gotten into something as small as they had been thinking. But that had turned up nothing.
Then she had a thought. “Moana, we need to go back down to the pool with the waterfall,” Elsa said thoughtfully.
Moana stopped raging and looked at Elsa. “What are you thinking?” she asked.
“I know you use fire and water to attack, but my magic isn't for attacking, remember, other than the ice magic I still have. We proved all that out back on Motonui. Mine is for seeking, and I can do it in a pool of reflective water. This might be the time for it,” Elsa pointed out.
Moana thought for a moment and then nodded, “You're right. We might as well try that. Obviously nothing else has worked.”
Elsa nodded, and the pair transformed back into eagles and flew down to the pool. The water rippled from the small waterfall, but in the early morning twilight, was deeply reflective. They knelt at the water's edge and Elsa called to her magic and the water reflection changed. It showed the island from the air, then a deep dark cave with a menacing red glow deep within, and finally, the reef at the edge of the lagoon. Just before the image vanished, it dove beneath the waves and Elsa thought she saw a flash of a cave entrance before the image was gone.
Moana looked a question at Elsa. Elsa stood and sighed. “The entrance is under water, deep. And the cave is a huge complex that mostly moves up into the mountain. That is why we couldn't find it. That is the only way in. I am a little worried about the air supply in there, cause I think there is either a fire or some lava in there.”
“Then we have to be fast, Elsa,” Moana said brightly.
“You don't understand. I am worried there isn't any air to start with! For all I know, it is filled with poisonous fumes,” Elsa sighed hard then.
Moana thought hard then. She and Elsa could transform into any animal they wanted, but if the air in the cave would kill them just for one breath of it, then that would defeat the purpose. She thought hard about that problem. Still, she couldn't come up with a solution.
Elsa was likewise thinking about it, but similarly coming up with nothing. “We may have to just chance it,” she said.
“I don't think we have any other choice,” Moana agreed.
They nodded, transformed back into eagles and flew back to where the boats were waiting. They landed on the deck and came back to their human forms. Chief Tui read the grim look on their faces. He motioned to all the others as he walked up to the pair.
“What is it? Did you find out what to do about it?” Tui asked.
“There is a cave. The entrance is deep under water, and no human could reach it before they drowned. And what ever is causing all this is related to Te Ka and in that cave,” Moana explained.
“Then can't you two fix it?” Tui asked again.
“We might be able to, if we can reach the source of the problem. And that is the real problem. We have no way of knowing what the air in the cave is like. For all we know it is a poisonous fume that will kill us instantly,” Elsa admitted.
Chief Tui seemed to rock back on his heels a moment. Then he gave them a hard look, “You two are still going to try, aren't you?” he challenged them.
Elsa nodded, and Moana looked grim. He didn't say anything, and just pulled them into a tight hug. He finally relented and even as he looked at them, he had his big hands confidently on their shoulders. “We don't have to settle here. We can go somewhere else,” he suggested.
“No, we can't leave this unchallenged. This will continue to be a danger to the world unless we end it. We have a responsibility to protect everyone, not just this fleet. And honestly, that includes the cursed and restless souls of those lost villagers,” Elsa said firmly. Moana nodded her agreement.
Chief Tui smiled sadly, “I figured that was going to be the case. Then both of you be extra careful down there. Gods only know what you will find down there. I couldn't hope to stop either of you, and I wouldn't want to. So watch out for each other.”
They nodded, and then dove into the water, transforming into sharks even as they did so. Down they swam, and out past the reef. They had a general idea where to look, but weren't sure about how deep or the exact location. Still, they had to try.
Hours seemed to pass, before Moana spotted it. It was well hidden and almost too deep even for their shark forms. She signaled Elsa to follow and the pair swam into the yawning opening. It seemed to travel down a little before it sharply arced up. They surfaced and transformed again into humans. The pitch black was blinding, and so Moana cast her light spell again. They were greeted by sheer slick walls that rose high up and they were in a pool at the bottom.
Thankfully, the air was pure and unpolluted as they had feared. Still, they were faced with the problem of getting up the dark lava rock shaft. Moana turned to Elsa.
“We need to hop out of the water. Can you get us some ice to stand on before we transform again?” she asked the pale blonde.
Elsa nodded, and held her hand out to start freezing the pool of water. She had to be careful though, not to freeze either of them into the ice. Once she had it thick enough and stable enough, they climbed out of the remaining open water and stood up on the frozen surface. Moana's feet didn't care for the cold, but Elsa wasn't bothered by it in the least. However, they didn't have to think on it long as they transformed into flying bugs and flew up the shaft.
It seemed to stretch up into the island's interior forever, but it did finally turn into a sloping shaft they could easily walk in. They landed and went back to human forms, weapons at the ready even as Moana's little glowing orb of light moved ahead of them. The cave was as massive as Elsa had described and sloped upward most of the way, with only one or two segments that dipped down. Finally, they reached the large open cavern, and saw no stalagmites or stalactites. The entire room was flat and smooth.
At the far end, both of them saw the glow of something fiery. They approached it carefully. Just as they were getting within the area of the glow and could see a pool of lava, a voice out of the darkness, both sinister and foul sounding, spoke.
“Well, well, well. I thought this the perfect hiding place, that no one would ever get to. I had hoped to add you to my collection of souls trapped forever on this island. Two mighty warriors such as you two would serve me well!” it said.
“Come out and face us, coward!” Moana shouted to the darkness.
“And why should I, little girl? It would be so much easier for me to just wait until your air runs out and you choke to death,” the smugness irritated both women.
“And what would happen if we cooled this lava?” Elsa asked slyly and with obvious malice.
“Don't you dare! I will destroy you if you try!” the voice roared.
“Then maybe we should,” Moana cooed as she conjured a ball of water in her hand.
“NO!!!” the voice roared as the lava heaved and a figure emerged from the pool.
Moana didn't hesitate and threw the water bubble at the rising figure even as Elsa began casting her ice magic at it. The creature roared and charged the pair. Moana dodged left as Elsa went right. The creature wildly slammed it's fist into the stone, missing both nimble women. It turned on Moana and charged straight at her. She dodged to the right and swung her spear with all her might.
The mighty spear tore into the lava creature's chest and it howled angrily. As Moana came upright, she noted that her spear was undamaged. So, this thing wasn't as strong as Te Ka. That was good to know. However, it seemed to have no effect as the monster quickly reformed. Then Elsa came in with a sweeping strike from her sword and a spear of ice she pushed into the monster's back.
It howled mightily. But it still reformed, and turned to take a swipe at Elsa. The pale blonde was able to dodge it, but only narrowly. The creature was faster than it looked. Moana conjured another bubble of water and with a quick feint to the left, she came in from the right and hit the creature square in the face with it. She twisted midair and then a swipe of her spear hit the thing squarely in the arm.
The lava limb fell to the ground and cooled instantly. However, the creature just regenerated the limb and charged again. This time Moana couldn't move fast enough and got solidly punched in the gut, sending her flying backwards with a serious burn. Elsa didn't spare a look and instead conjured another ice spear and hurled it at the creature, scoring a direct hit in the chest again. The creature howled and came at her next as the ice spike melted quickly away.
Moana picked herself up off the ground and she quickly charged the creature, swiping at its legs with her spear. The weapon easily severed the lava limb again, which again fell away and quickly cooled on the ground, only to be quickly regenerated again. Though the creature did have to stand up from the fall it took when the leg fell away.
Elsa and Moana regrouped and studied the creature then. They quickly realized that when hit with either ice or water, its movements became slower, but not for long. And then they realized it was also smaller than when the fight had started. They instantly realized that it had a limited supply of lava, and each limb it lost cost it some of its mass. They looked at each other even as the creature turned on them and charged, and they smiled as they figured out how to beat it.
In charged Elsa from the left with another ice spike, hitting it square in the side, even as Moana came up the middle and rolled under its slowed swing, swiping both legs this time. The monster hit the ground again, and roared in frustration. The lost legs disintegrated and cooled instantly again. The monster was quick to regenerate them and stood again, only to have Moana come from the right this time and hit it hard with a large bubble of water. The monster was wise to this trick, but its movements were just barely too slow as Elsa severed the swinging arm at the shoulder, taking a huge chunk of its lava this time.
Again the monster reformed, but then the pair and it all noticed that it had shrunk to smaller than the two women. It turned to flee back to the pool of lava from whence it had come, and the pair weren't about to let it. Both Elsa and Moana conjured their elements to fully cool and solidify the small pool, with jets of water and ice, before the creature could get to it. It howled in anger and charged them one last time.
Both Elsa and Moana counter charged it and brought their respective weapons down in heavy strikes that severed the small form of the lava monster into three slices. At that point the fight was over as the creature simply fell apart and cooled into solid stone on the floor. There was a moment of a scream of rage that seemed to echo from all directions, and then it slowly faded and all went silent. They stood there, weapons at the ready if anything else were to come at them.
Nothing did. It was all silence then. The only sounds were their heavy breathing in the thinning air of the cave. When several minutes had passed with nothing happening, they lowered their weapons and turned to go back the way they came. They didn't speak for fear of using up too much air. When they finally reached the pool shaft again, they both smiled in the dark and dove into the cold water, the ice having melted some time ago. Transforming back into sharks, they returned swiftly to the surface, where they found that noon had come and passed.
They used Moana's water powers to climb up onto the deck of the boat and smiled broadly at Chief Tui who hurried over to them. He looked at Moana's midriff and frowned at the serious burn there, but her smile convinced him she was alright. He then smiled back.
“We were getting worried. It is almost sunset. What was it?” he asked.
“A lava monster. Likely spawned by Te Ka. It was using foul magic to bind the souls of everyone who died here. It was going to try to do the same to all of us, but we stopped it. It was only a little harder to deal with than a giant crab,” Moana said.
“And the burn?” Tui asked seriously.
“It got one good shot in before we figured it out. Once we found what was doing what to it, it was practically over. Turns out, water and ice only slowed it, but cutting away the lava was the key. The more lava it lost, the smaller and weaker it got. At that point, it was easy to destroy.
“We still need to go check things out again, but I am confident we broke the curse,” Moana explained.
“Just be careful. I know you two can handle yourselves, but I do worry about you. I am still getting to know you, and I would be heartbroken to lose you, again, to some stupid accident,” Tui countered.
“We will be,” Elsa promised.
With that they became eagles and flew up and towards the beach. As Tui said, it was getting late and they only had so much light to work with. They landed in the village again and found the skeletons laying in piles where they had fallen. They walked around to make sure it was done and were getting ready to head back to the boats to tell them it was safe when a form appeared in the failing light of the sunset.
The form was that of a young woman, her face was sad yet happy. She held her arms out to Moana and Elsa. “Thank you for freeing us. I was unable to stop the creature from enslaving us, and could only give you minimal help, but it would appear that it wasn't in vain,” the ghostly apparition said.
“We are only sorry it took so long for anything to be done,” Moana said somberly.
The ghost shook its head. “You couldn't have stopped our fate, any more than we could have. But now we are free to move on at last. The evil creature is no more.”
“Then go in peace, and may you rest well,” Elsa said somberly.
The ghost smiled that sad smile and simply faded out. Elsa and Moana stood there a moment longer, and then transformed and returned to the boats. When they got there, Chief Tui smiled.
“It is done then?” he asked.
“Yes, it is done. The island curse is no more. I would advise giving proper rights to the remains of those villagers, though,” Moana said.
Tui nodded. “We'll see it done. Now, what is next, you two? We are going to be quite busy building a new village here, but I don't think that is for you two.”
Moana looked at Elsa, who shrugged. “We actually haven't given it much thought. Honestly, I just wanted to get to know you all so bad, it was all I could think of myself.”
“Well, you two should talk it over. A pair of demi-goddesses would be a big help anywhere they go,” he said fondly. “But I don't want you two leaving forever, mind you. I want this to be home for you. A place for you to return to. And a family.”
Moana nodded, and turned to Elsa, and motioned with her head to one side. Tui just snorted, waved, and walked off. Moana and Elsa moved to the side of the deck as the boat began turning and heading to shore. Elsa gripped Moana's hands as they moved close enough for their hips and shoulders to touch as they looked out over the water.
“He is right, you know,” Elsa said. “We really do need to find a place in the world. Since I came here, I have just kinda been following in your shadow. But now it seems we have a fork in the road and a decision to make.”
“I won't pretend I understood that reference about roads and forks, but I got the meaning. And you are right. I've been so focused on finding my lost family, I hadn't considered that by anchoring ourselves here, we'd be wasting our power. I suppose it is fine to come home every now and again and have this as a place to return to, but at the same time, we should be out there,” Moana gestured widely to the vast ocean. “Out there we could make a difference. We could find other islands like this one that are places of sorrow needing healing. We could take the battles to the monsters themselves! We can even scout out all the islands that are out there.”
“Exactly, Moana. Honestly, these boats are so much more fun than being land bound, or the big complex beasts that sail from Arendelle. Their small size, and pure speed, make them so much more fun! And honestly, I don't want to go back there anyway. Out here, I am free and I also met you.
“And honestly again, we could make so much more of a difference by going out there, than we could by staying in a village or me being queen of a small European kingdom. We could keep the monsters that prey on your boats from being a menace, or help find new islands for your people. We can open the whole of the ocean up for them, just by 'going out there!'” Elsa said enthusiastically.
Moana giggled. “Hey, enough of that 'your people' stuff! They are our people! Your skin and hair may be different, but as far as any of us are concerned, you are just one of us,” Moana said fondly.
“Point taken,” Elsa conceded. However she wasn't about to let Moana change the subject, “But let's go out there and make a difference! We can always come home from time to time, but we are needed out there. I can't imagine Maui making it his business to fix all the problems that have come up in the thousand years since he stole the Heart.”
Moana nodded, agreeing with the point. “Fair enough. As soon as we get everyone ashore and started building the new village, we'll set out to find what lay beyond the horizon!”
“Deal,” Elsa affirmed.
The pair just leaned together as they watched the boats approach the shore again, and they felt like this journey was only beginning.
Three years of little adventures had come and gone. Elsa and Moana had spent the first four months on Lani Tai, as the island came to be called, helping get the village up and running. Then they had taken their leave. Chief Tui had insisted on building the budding couple a house, so they could always come home to it. However, Moana and Elsa were determined to go out and see how many other dangers still lurked in the wake of Te Ka's thousand years of darkness.
That and they were looking for other islands, preferably with people on them. The main reason, as Elsa had put it was that Lani Tai and Motonui couldn't exist alone. Trade would be needed, though Moana did point out that most of the islands had mostly the same things. Still, Elsa was right, and so they had set out on their adventures.
In that time, they had found no other real challenges. A couple monsters tried to attack, but they had been small fry and were easily either killed or run off. They found three more abandoned islands, though none as viciously cursed as Lani Tai had been. One in particular Elsa had noted as being something she could have used against the other kings and queens of Europe had she still been in Arendelle. Then they had finally found two islands that were inhabited. One however, had been a tribe of cannibals, and after having demonstrated their status as demi-goddesses, they were able to convince the islanders to stop eating other people.
The result had been to connect four islands in a small group, with three potential colonies. Elsa and Moana had returned to Lani Tai and Motonui with each discovery, and every time, the people had been happy. However, for Moana and Elsa, their second happiest day had been the day Elsa had proposed to Moana. And their happiest day had been when Moana's father, Chief Tui of Lani Tai, had married them.
Now however, Moana and Elsa were almost back to Lani Tai with news of another island, also abandoned and in ruins. Elsa was stretched out on her back on the deck of their little boat, naked as the day she was born, just soaking up the sun. Moana was at the tiller, guiding the small boat, just smiling at her wife. Their relationship had bloomed in three years, though it wasn't without the occasional fights.
“You know, Elsa, you can't feel the warmth,” Moana teased. It was one of the topics that frustrated Elsa no end as she couldn't get either cold or hot.
“Not true, love. You know as well as I do, I can feel the warmth. I am just not affected by it,” the pale blonde with milky white skin rebutted her brown skinned and raven haired wife.
“And yet, you complain every other day that you wished you could feel the temperatures around you,” Moana teased again.
Elsa sat up and stuck her tongue out at Moana. It was true, due to her ice magic, she couldn't sense temperatures, but neither was she affected by them. They could be in the most sweltering heat, or most bitter cold, and she wouldn't even notice. That however, didn't stop her from being warmed by the rays of the sun. It was really the only way she knew what hot and cold even were.
Moana giggled and turned the small boat slightly to port. Elsa put her arms under her and cocked her head, “What do you think Dad is going to say when we tell him about that island?” Elsa had started calling Tui, Dad, ever since they were betrothed.
“I don't know. The problem is the lack of good crop land,” Moana admitted.
“Well, all those rocks will certainly complicate things, but surely it has some value. The reef is perfect for fishing, for starters. And I know our people don't normally care about it, but that makes three islands we have found with iron deposits. Say what you will, even a little iron is helpful,” Elsa pointed out.
“I know, I know. After seeing what your steel weapons could do, I have no doubt that iron tools would make a huge difference. It is just that no one knows how to work with it. We can mine it all we want, but if we don't know how to use it, then it is a wasted effort,” Moana countered.
“I guess that is true. Maybe the next island we find will have someone who knows how,” Elsa said wistfully.
Moana smiled fondly, “Maybe. Or maybe we'll stumble across one of those bigger 'ports' as you call them. You said there were a couple out here, set up by, um, those people with the funny name...”
Elsa frowned then, “English. You mean the English. Look, I'd sooner we kept our distance from those places. It isn't just the few English ports out there. There are other European claims, and in my experience, which is considerable, the further we are from other Europeans, the better.”
Moana frowned at her wife then, this was one of the things that would start fights between them. “Honey, I know you don't like other people with white skin. You've said it a thousand times that you think that Europeans are the worst of all humans. But, surely, there are redeeming things. I mean, you are from that world yourself.”
“Which is how I know how evil some of them can be,” Elsa said firmly.
Moana sighed heavily. She was fed up with Elsa dodging the question. And given what she saw on the horizon, it was time to force the issue. So, she simply tied off the tiller stood up and loomed over her wife. “At the risk of another fight over the subject, we have been together for three years and more. I think it is time you explained that.”
Elsa sat up and stood then, to look her smaller wife in the eye. “I've told you no. That I won't. Not until and unless something forces it. The less I have to think about countries like England, Corona, Arendelle, or the Southern Isles, the better I'll be,” there was direct challenge in Elsa's eyes and voice.
“Then maybe you should have a look behind you,” Moana challenged.
Elsa cocked an eyebrow, turned and froze as solid as her ice. There was Lani Tai, but also what looked like four European style ships on the horizon. Elsa turned on Moana in fear then.
“We need to turn around and go to Motonui and warn them, now,” she demanded.
“No! Not until you explain! These are the people you come from! Why do you hate them so much?” Moana challenged.
Elsa puffed up, her chest bumping into Moana's, and then she let out a huge sigh as she knew she couldn't avoid it any longer. “I don't hate them. I am scared of them,” she finally admitted.
Moana cocked her head. Scared? In three years, she had seen Elsa face monsters, demons, and Te Ka herself. Nothing scared her!
“Why?” the simple question was soft.
“Because I am afraid of them finding out I am still alive,” Elsa admitted.
That was the crux, Moana thought, but did not say. “Elsa, my love, you have to face that sooner or later. Eventually they were going to find out any way. We are getting a bit of a reputation. That and now four islands know it is safe to sail out again. Do you think for one minute that they aren't going to be telling tales of the woman with pale golden hair and milky white skin to every island they come to?”
“I was hoping to put it off long enough that I wouldn't be remembered by anyone in Europe. My sister and her family in particular,” Elsa said sadly.
“Why would you want to be forgotten by them?” Moana asked softly, as she helped Elsa sit down on the deck and sat next to her.
“So that they wouldn't try to drag me back. All I ever brought Arendelle was pain and war. You do remember that when I met you, I had just had my ship shot out from under me by two naval ships of the Southern Isles, right?” Elsa challenged.
“Yes, but what does that have to do with it?” Moana asked.
“The war was because of me. I was the only reason there was fighting. The Southern Isles didn't take kindly to how I expelled Prince Hans. And Wessalton didn't take how I cut all ties with them all that well either. And when I was last in Arendelle, my spy master kept saying that he was getting reports that Wessalton and Hans were meeting with the big countries like Germany, or England. Arendelle could hold it's own against those two, but if the big ones came in on their side, we'd be crushed. So the idea was for me to leave the scene, to give Anna and the others a chance to find a path to peace,” Elsa said somberly.
“And how do you know they didn't?” Moana asked gently.
“I am sure they did. Anna can be quite charming when she wants to be. But if I come back from the dead, particularly after I am sure the Southern Isles probably bragged their asses off about sinking my ship with me on it, then the war will just start again,” Elsa finished sadly.
“And you don't want that war to start again,” Moana stated the obvious.
They both looked out at the four ships and the small little island. They were still too far to make out any great detail, but Elsa felt a chill run down her spine as she took in the sleek shapes of the obvious war ships. This could easily be explained as a squadron looking to resupply, but something about the shapes of the ships rang warning bells for her. More, they were all anchored off the reef, with sails put up. Something gnawed at her, though she wasn't able to put her finger on it.
“Fine, we'll go in. But, let's try not to attract attention all the same,” Moana said softly. “At least until we know what is going on for sure. And if they are your enemies come to find you, we'll turn around before they can chase us, okay?”
“Alright, alright. But if I tell you to turn and run, don't ask, just do it, okay?” Elsa pleaded.
“Fair enough. You know more about those ships than I do,” Moana said.
Moana went back to the tiller as Elsa stood up and climbed the mast. Elsa put her hand over her eyes to minimize the sun's glare, and she strained to see the ships. It would take at least two hours for them to reach the reef, and where the ships sat. But she was determined to identify them before they reached that point.
Both Moana and Elsa considered changing shape and flying over them to see what was going on, but something told them it would be ill advised. Finally, Elsa knew why she was having the feelings, as she finally caught sight of the flags on each ship. It wasn't her enemies, as she had feared. It was worse. Far worse, for her.
The two ships on the left flew flags of Corona, with it's bright golden sunburst on a white field. However, one of them had a green cross behind it as well, and that meant there was royalty aboard it. The other two however, flew the flags of Arendelle, a bright blue snowflake on a white field, and one had the red chevron of royalty as well. There was a decided sinking feeling in Elsa's stomach as she couldn't help but dread the coming confrontations.
She slowly climbed down from the mast, and Moana looked a question at her. Elsa just shook her head sadly, “We go on in. I don't want to deal with what is coming, but at least there shouldn't be any shooting or fighting, per say. Also, you may want to cast that language spell you used on me and admitted to two years ago,” Elsa suggested.
“Alright, but let's still be careful about it,” Moana didn't ask Elsa why she still looked like she wanted to run. Still, she cast the spell, as Elsa may have learned the local language well enough to be fluent, these strangers wouldn't understand them.
As the boat drew nearer to the big ships, the ships suddenly opened all their gun ports, and in a moment it seemed as if every cannon in the world was aimed at Elsa and Moana at that point. However, they didn't fire. Elsa watched carefully as their boat came within musket range and then passed the ships. She had never seen so many guns pointed at her in her life. Then the pair heard a number of bugle calls made. Elsa didn't recognize them, but didn't need to to know they were warning those on shore of their approach.
Finally, the boat hit the beach, just next to a large number of longboats. Moana followed Elsa's lead and put her hands in the air as it seemed a hundred men with rifles were suddenly pointing the weapons at them. Elsa recognized them as Coronan and Arendelle marines. Then they heard a commotion as the Marines were roughly shoved aside so that Tui and Sina could reach the pair. The big Tui pulled them all into a great big bear hug.
“We can't understand a word they are saying, and they have been here three days,” Tui began.
“I've only been speaking our tongue since Moana's spell wore off, so that doesn't surprise me,” Elsa responded.
“Wait, the spell wore off?” Tui asked.
“Two years ago, Dad,” Moana and Elsa said at the same time.
Tui didn't get to say anything else as a female voice, dripping with condescension, sounded from the back. “Oh, ho! So now you speak our language, Savage!”
The Marines parted and a petite woman wearing a black and green dress that looked far too heavy for the climate, though the big hat that covered her face obviously was a compensation for that. The woman came up to the family quartet and looked at Chief Tui. Elsa still couldn't see her face, but she did recognize the voice.
“You and I are going to have a little chat about your lying ways in a bit,” a pissed Anna said menacingly.
Elsa felt her jaw hang open as Anna pulled the hat back to show her face. She glared at Elsa as she studied her. Finally, Anna scoffed. “Another impostor! The Trolls said she was in this area, but I didn't think Admiral Hans had that information.”
“Anna, it is me,” Elsa said imploringly.
“Liar! You may look damned close to my sister, but Admiral Hans has pulled that same stunt too many times before! I'll not fall for it again!” Anna shouted angrily.
“Why don't you think it is her,” another voice, again female, came from behind the Marines. Again the soldiers parted, and another petite woman, this one in pink with the same large and wide hat came forth to stand next to Anna.
“For starters, Elsa wouldn't be standing here naked, Punzzie! She'd have covered up at least! Also, those tattoos are in pure poor taste! If Admiral Hans thinks trying to make her look like some kind of native savage will convince me she is the real deal, he should think again!” Anna growled.
Rapunzel pulled her hat back to better look at Elsa then. Only, unlike Anna, she seemed to really study her. Elsa took a single step forward and was about to try again, when Anna lashed out and slapped her across the face hard, knocking her to the ground. In an instant, Moana was there, pointing her wicked spear in Anna's face. Her speed seemed to catch everyone off guard.
“You don't lay a hand on my wife!” Moana growled in challenge.
Anna flinched from the sudden movement, but came back on keel quickly when the follow through attack didn't come. She raised her hand to slap the impudent savage brown woman when Rapunzel reached up and grabbed Anna by the wrist.
“Anna calm down,” she said soothingly. “You need to look closer.”
Anna lowered her hand and then looked at Elsa behind Moana and her eyes narrowed as Elsa stood back up. Anna looked like she wanted to slap them again, or order them shot.
“And another thing. Elsa wouldn't have been caught dead bedding some savage, much less another woman! She wasn't some disgusting sodomite!” Anna accused.
Elsa blinked at that. Where had this prejudice and language come from? They had both been raised as daughters of the old gods. And yet Anna was sounding more like a Protestant or other Christian. Then Elsa noted the small silver cross around Anna's neck. A quick check showed that Rapunzel didn't have one though.
Anna just looked at them with hatred and then stormed off. A few marines split off to follow her up the beach to where a tent had been pitched just out of the tide line. Elsa watched her storm off with something like disbelief. What had happened in three years?
Rapunzel just stepped up to Elsa, blatantly ignoring Moana and her spear. She seemed to study Elsa's face closer for a minute, and then she smiled. Next thing Elsa knew, she was having the stuffing hugged out of her by a woman at least four inches smaller than her. Moana looked confused.
“It is you!” was all Rapunzel said as she hugged for all she was worth.
“Yes, it is me,” Elsa confirmed as she returned the hug. She nodded at Moana who lowered her spear carefully. However, none of the Marines lowered their weapons, but instead had them trained on Moana and Elsa in particular. “What has been going on?” Elsa asked in a bewildered tone.
“Former Prince Hans, now Admiral Hans, claimed he had captured you and was holding you prisoner until Anna surrendered. Of course, she called him on the lie. But things were hard. Hans kept producing look a likes, and the strain got to Anna. Long story short, a priest converted her, and she has been getting worse ever since,” Rapunzel explained as she broke the hug. She nodded at the Marines and they finally lowered their weapons.
“I can see that, but let's talk about this out of the sun,” Elsa said. Rapunzel nodded, and then Chief Tui held up a hand.
“Elsa, no. They have been rude and aggressive since they got here. They haven't even been trying to learn our language, just yelling at us. Screaming your name over and over again,” he said as he looked angrily at Rapunzel.
Elsa put her hand on his big arms, “It is going to be okay, Dad. We'll get this all sorted out,” Elsa promised.
Rapunzel started, “Dad?”
Elsa smiled meekly. “Yes, Dad. This is my father-in-law, Chief Tui of Lani Tai.”
“Wait, you seriously married another woman? And an islander?” Rapunzel seemed to be having trouble processing that.
“Yes, Punzzie, I did. Now, let's go to our place and we can talk,” Elsa insisted.
Rapunzel shook herself, then looked back to the tent where Anna had disappeared. It was only one of several that had been set up in a clearing. She then looked at the chief with something like sympathy. “Well, then let me apologize for Anna. We didn't mean to come in raving like a bunch of lunatics, but Anna has been getting, well, desperate.”
Tui nodded then. “Apology accepted. For now,” he said simply.
The group, followed by a few of those sour faced marines walked up the winding path into the village until they came to a hut that had intricately carved posts outside the door. Elsa pulled back the curtains and let everyone in. Rapunzel insisted that the soldiers stay outside as guards. Elsa was only too happy about that.
Inside, Elsa apologized. “I am sorry about the dust and dirt. Moana and I don't stay long on the island. We move about quite a lot.”
“Elsa, I am still having trouble processing that you are actually alive, that Anna's former troll-in-laws-to-be were right, and everything that has been revealed so far. A little dirt and dust is the least of my concerns just now.” Tui politely swept off a mat on the floor for Rapunzel to sit on as Moana breathed fire into the fire pit and the torches. Rapunzel stared in rapt fascination at the, to Elsa and Moana, along with the other islanders, mundane act. As Moana was lighting the torches, Elsa pulled out one of her favorite skirts and wrapped it around her waist. The one she had been wearing on the boat was a little ragged and she hadn't bothered putting it on. Once they had the fires lit and the lights up, Moana, Elsa, and Chief Tui all came and sat around it, facing Rapunzel.
“Okay, Punzzie, this is a long ass story, so get comfortable,” Elsa commented.
Rapunzel nodded and turned her full attention to Elsa. “It all started with two Southern Isles ships...” Elsa began. And she laid out the whole story about the fight with Te Ka, and her decision to stay with the islanders rather than try to find a way home. Rapunzel nodded as Elsa explained her reasoning, though her face was grim. Still, she didn't interrupt.
“So, after we got to this island, and broke the curse by killing the demon, Moana and I kinda just fell in together. I mean, we already were headed that way by the end of dealing with Te Fiti, but it took us a while to come to the decision to make it completely official. And both of us being demi-goddesses means we don't have to worry about old age or out living one or the other of us. However, we both came to the decision to never have kids, mainly so we don't have to out live them.
“Since then, we have been sailing around the South Pacific, looking for fights and islands that have been restored, or just plain needed help. And it has been the best time of my life. I mean, I have never been happier. Ever,” Elsa finished with emphasis on the last word.
Rapunzel nodded somberly. “That is quite the story, Elsa. And I want to believe it, and Moana being able to simply breath fire would seem to confirm it, but it is just so hard after all this time.”
“I understand Rapunzel, but why don't you tell me everything that has been going on since I left four years ago. Then maybe we can work on figuring this all out,” Elsa suggested.
Rapunzel sighed, “Okay, when you left, the Southern Isles and Wessalton had joined forces. Well, after you left, Anna was finally able to get King Connerad to agree to peace talks. Things looked like they were going to plan, until Hans came back. He was the Captain of one of those ships that hit you. His father had cut him out of the line of succession entirely, but made him an officer in their navy.
“Well, when he got back, he made a big announcement about how he had captured you, and that unless Anna surrendered unconditionally, he would have you executed. He even produced a really good look-alike. And, of course, you can imagine how Anna responded. After she called him a liar to his face, she stormed out of the talks all together. It was now a war that was going end with either the destruction and conquest of Wessalton and the Southern Isles, or Arendelle.
“Basically, Hans had made it personal. Which may have been his intent seeing as he would never inherit a crown any more. Still, as soon as Anna got back, she went straight to the Trolls for answers. They confirmed that Hans had been full of shit, and that you were still alive and well somewhere in the South Pacific. Mind you, Anna was riding a ragged edge at that point.
“So when she found out you were still alive out here, she immediately tried to get a rescue mounted. Admiral Sigurd, or course, talked her out of it. He said that Arendelle's navy was too thinly stretched, and as a result, he couldn't even spare a row boat. So, Anna came to me. Mind you, I had just been named and crowned as Queen of Corona, so I wasn't too sure about trying to rescue you. Then Hans showed up and all but threatened me, saying that he was getting help with the war from the French and Danes, the English and Germans had told him to fuck off, though not in so many words. In his words, if we tried to get in on it in favor of Arendelle, who was my own cousin, he would destroy us.
“Again, Hans was deliberately trying to provoke us. Unlike Anna however, I was able to think before I reacted. I immediately got the ambassadors for England, Germany, and Norway into my throne room, and we had a little talk about French and Danish adventurism on the behalf of the Southern Isles and Wessalton. They were less than pleased about it to say the least. When they left, we had an alliance.
The Spanish came in on Wessalton's side only a year later, but they haven't been a force worth mentioning in decades. Not a naval force, anyway. So, basically, Europe has been split into two camps. The Arendelle Alliance and the Isles Concordant. With all the sides fighting right now, it finally freed up Anna to send an expedition. She had been planning it for a full year by then. However, Hans hadn't finished with her.
“Hans basically staged an execution with another look-alike. The poor woman was beheaded in front of a crowd of onlookers, and her head was sent to Anna. That sent Anna off the deep end. She broke, Elsa. She was lost and looking for answers, and she found them in the Bible and Church. Unfortunately, I think the priest she spoke to was up to something.
“Other than me, Anna basically replaced all her advisers with Protestant hard-liners. As the plan to save you came together at last, she made the full conversion into full scale bigot. She has put to death more pagans than any other ruler in the last fifty years. She drove out anyone who wasn't a pure Arendellen. Including Christoff.
“She was going to marry the oaf, until Hans broke her, and that priest warped her mind. He barely made it to Corona before the death warrant. Needless to say, I refused her demands on the topic, and have been sheltering him since. Right now, he lives in the castle with my mother and father, and of course, Eugenie. It has been all we can do to contain her, and not have the fragile alliance shatter. So the moment we could, we put this little force together with the intent of finding you.
“It was our hope that you could finally get through to her, and maybe even help her. But most of all, we wanted you back on the throne of Arendelle so that you could end her reign of tyranny. Believe it or not, your loving little sister has become one of the worst tyrants in the world. There is plenty of blood on her hands.
“As for how Hans could have done all this, well it isn't a simple thing. Apparently before he got booted from the royal line, he had made friends with a number of prominent nobles, all of whom didn't like you much. Through a Byzantine Labyrinth of back room politics, he backed his father, King Connerad, into a nasty corner. His father may have cast him out, but he was powerless to stop him after. In reality, Hans has become something of a puppet master in this whole sordid affair.
“None of the nations involved are really invested in this war. The scale of the bloodshed has left a sour taste in everyone's mouth on the topic of war. But no one can back down until and unless either Arendelle or the Southern Isles do. Wessalton is considered to be in the back pocket of the Isles so they'll do whatever the Isles do. And Hans is the key to it all.
“You see, I maintain a sort of back door communication with Connerad. Him and all the other players. What it boils down to is that right now, it is political suicide for Connerad to try and deal with Hans at the moment. He is something of the nobility's darling, to say nothing of his popularity with the commoners of the Isles. But all of us know he has played Anna too well, and made it personal to a point that Anna won't back down even if Connerad did,” Rapunzel finished.
Elsa was paler than normal. “Rapunzel, the war was supposed to end! Not blow up into some kind of world war!”
“I know, Elsa, I know. Like I said, none of us are interested in the fight, just making sure that no countries go down in flames of hatred and revenge. That is why we need you back. Please, I know if you have time, you can break through to Anna. Every leader, including Connerad, would be only too happy to see you back on the throne. The only one who wouldn't would be Hans. But if you come back, Hans won't have a leg to stand on anymore. I know you didn't think so, but even Connerad and that weasel from Wessalton respected you. If you came back, you could ask for terms of ceasefire, which would break Hans' hold. Connerad could claim that he was being the wise and benevolent statesman in accepting it. And from there we could have peace,” Rapunzel begged.
Elsa looked at her sadly. “I am sorry, Punzzie, but I can't. I have a responsibility to my people here. I am not just a queen, but a demi-goddesses now! My responsibilities are ten times what they were!”
Moana looked at her wife for a moment before she elbowed her in the ribs. “Yeah, you do, but one could argue that this falls under them too!”
Elsa looked at Moana as if she had just been betrayed. “But, I can't be here to help if I am over there!”
“Well, if you think you'd be going alone, you have another thought coming, my pretty Island Lilly,” Moana said with some mock seductiveness. “I'd be going too, and you can bet we'd make it a team effort to end things. That is what we do. We travel the seas and solve problems. I don't know if you have noticed in the last three years, but our local problems seem to have mostly dried up.”
“Moana, it isn't that easy. Once I return, I'll have to stay. We'd never see the islands again. We'd never see mom and dad again! More than that, it'd be expected that I produce an heir to replace me,” Elsa tried to explain.
Rapunzel looked a question at Tui. He smiled fondly, “I've just learned to go with it. It is their own personal little game and I just try not to get involved,” he whispered as he leaned into the brunette's ear.
She nodded and then turned her attention to Moana as she countered Elsa's comment. “Elsa, there must be a way around that! Surely you can name an heir not of your body! Villages do it all the time here! And you came out here once, and your cousin,” she nodded at Rapunzel, “did it, and your sister did it! Just find someone else, and then we can come home!”
Elsa was about to respond when there was some shouting of the guards outside. Tui waved for them to stay while he checked it out. When he moved the curtain aside, he saw another islander, this one as big as him with tattoo all over and a giant bone fishhook cradled in his arms. The Chief had never seen the man before, and before he could ask any questions of him, he spoke.
“I need to speak to Moana and Elsa. Now,” the big man demanded.
“And just who are...” Tui didn't get to finish as Moana and Elsa, followed slowly by Rapunzel, dashed passed him and launched into a giant bear hug of the big man.
“Maui!” they shouted in unison.
Rapunzel looked confused at Tui who just shrugged in equal confusion. Finally, they all broke the hug, and the trio turned to the two confused humans.
“Dad, Punzzie, this is Maui, Demi-god of the Wind and Sea, Hero of Humanity,” Elsa got out with a giant grin.
“Another demi-god?” Rapunzel asked.
“Actually, I am the reason they became demi-goddesses. I screwed up, and they helped me realize it and fix it,” the big Maui explained.
Rapunzel snorted, “That sounds like the Elsa I remember.”
“Maui, why are you here?” Moana asked.
“We got a serious problem. And it involves them,” and he pointed at Rapunzel and the guards.
Elsa shook her head sadly, “Come on in, have a seat, and tell us about it. We can add it to the growing list.”
Maui nodded, and once again they all went inside and took seats. Maui looked around and then smiled at the pair, “You know, I never really had a home like this. I was always on the move too much. Never stayed long in one place, and never came to really call a place home. Not even that pile of pebbles prison I was on for a thousand years.”
“Is that regret in your voice I hear?” Moana asked with mock seriousness.
“Kinda. Been thinking on it since Te Fiti. You two have done alright for yourselves, if your tattoos are even half accurate. You two need to explain three of them to me, though, at another time,” he said wistfully.
“We really haven't added to them, you know. There hasn't been a whole lot to face, with the darkness gone,” Moana countered, dodging the obvious request.
“Well, I can see a couple new monsters listed, and what looks like a smaller lava demon and skeletons, so something big must have happened,” Maui pointed out.
“Yes, well, you said something about a serious problem?” Elsa was desperate to change the subject as Rapunzel was looking both confused and impressed. She didn't want to explain those stories just now.
“Yeah. Was flying a little east and north of here. Saw a big group of big boats like those out by the reef. They had a different symbol on them. And they destroyed a small group of boats for exactly no reason. Naturally I swooped in for a better view, the symbols I can draw in the dirt outside, but that isn't the problem.
“There was this guy. I got a real good look at him while he was standing on the port stern of the lead boat. He had something in one hand, and a parchment with Elsa's face on it in the other. The thing in his one hand was glowing like magic. Pale sickly green too. Real pale skin, brown hair, and a big hat,” Maui explained.
“You sure it was for no reason?” Elsa asked with dead seriousness.
“I couldn't understand a word they said, but they were pointing and laughing at the villagers who were trying to swim to wreckage. Then they shot them with these strange sticks that belched fire. They were treating it like it was just another bit of fun,” there was anger in Maui's voice.
“Show us the symbols,” Elsa demanded.
“I can do better than dirt, actually. Hold a second,” Maui said as he used his illusion magic to produce glowing images of the various symbols. However, two caught Elsa and Rapunzel's attention. The waving flag displayed a leaping shark over a ship, and then the one below it was a crimson chevron with a rocker.
Rapunzel looked at Elsa with dread, “It is Hans,” she said in a squeaky quiet voice.
Then Moana looked at Maui seriously, “How was it you just happened to be there at that time?”
“Believe it or not, the gods sent me there. They said they could sense an evil there that they had only sensed once before. Been working for the gods for a while now. Trying to make up for Te Fiti. It is why you two haven't seen many monsters lately, actually. I've been in Lalotai, a lot,” Maui explained.
Moana elbowed Elsa, “Hey, I told you we should have gone there! That explains it!”
Elsa gave a wry look at Moana, “And what would we have done there?” she asked sweetly.
Before Moana could counter, Maui spoke up. “You two were exactly where you needed to be. I have more experience in the Realm of Monsters, so I was sent. You two are a bit better with people, so you two were wanted up here. Now, however, the gods need us to do something about this man. And we can't do it alone.
“We may be demi-gods, but there are enough of them to overwhelm us. And their weapons are worrisome. I don't want to find out how they work the hard way,” Maui said sincerely.
“Why are the gods so worried about him?” Tui asked.
“They just said he was a powerful evil. They rarely use that term with mortals, “powerful evil” is normally only applied to demons and monsters. So I am taking this extremely seriously. One other thing they said about him, he wasn't the only problem. Said he was controlling someone else. And they had a message for you, Elsa. They said don't trust blood,” Maui said cryptically.
“Why can't the gods ever just give us nicely written directions on how to do things?” Moana complained.
Maui chuckled. “Yeah, it'd be nice. However, then they wouldn't be gods, now would they?”
Elsa shook her head, and then looked at the confused Rapunzel, “Rapunzel, go tell Anna we need to sail, now. Tide should be going out soon, so that should help. From the sound of it, Hans is using magic to find me. We need to put as much distance between us and Lani Tai as we can,” she turned to Tui then, “I am sorry we didn't get to stay longer Dad. We'll try to come back soon!”
“You two just be careful! I want you home alive!” he said as the pair started gathering provisions.
“Elsa, what... What is going on?” Rapunzel stammered out.
“We are protecting my people by getting away from here as fast as we can. If memory is right, Hans' ships weren't any faster than those out there in the bay. But if he is coming, and from what Maui said, he won't have any problem blowing this village, and everyone we care about, to Lalotai and back,” Elsa said firmly even as she threw skirts into bags.
“Elsa, we taking our boat?” Moana asked as she too was throwing as much as she could into bags.
“No, Punzzie's. I am not getting on the same boat as my sister, and those ships, as they are called, can take a lot more than our little boat can,” Elsa explained.
“No, you aren't,” a voice from the door said angrily.
They all turned just in time to see Anna standing in the door, with the sun low in the sky behind her. Elsa looked to where her obsidian edged sword rested against a post. Anna seemed oblivious to it. “Your savage whore of a friend can ride with Punzzie. You are coming with me,” Anna said in a voice that reminded Elsa of a frozen fjord.
Rapunzel spoke up then, “Anna, it wouldn't do for both of you to ride the same ship! One lucky shot and we lose both of you!”
“That is irrelevant. If Hans gets that close, we are doomed anyway. His ships are fast for their size, and have heavier guns. Fucking French models,” Anna continued in the same cold tone.
They all looked at each other, then Elsa asked, “And why the sudden change of mind? I thought I was an impostor.”
“I am still not convinced, but my advisers think it really is you this time. And Punzzie seems to think so too, so we'll just have a nice trip while you explain things to me from the brig of the ship,” Anna said in an even colder tone. “Unless you want me to drag your ass out there and then shell the shit out of this piss hole for a village.”
Moana and Elsa both looked at her with stark anger in there faces. Maui looked even more angry and about to attack. The Rapunzel stepped between the three demi-gods and Anna.
“Cousin Anna, no! I forbid it! They come with me, and you can visit them aboard my ship after we make our escape. If you try to force the issue, you are going to find yourself alone against the entire Concordant as soon as we get back,” Rapunzel threatened Anna.
Anna looked like she was about to spit on Rapunzel, but a hand appeared on her shoulder, and she looked back. There, just behind her, was a man wearing all black, a bald pate, with a white collar around his neck.
“Let it go, My Queen,” he said quietly.
Anna growled, but nodded. She then stormed off and started shouting orders to the soldiers to get everything loaded as quickly as possible. Elsa didn't fail to note the look of utter hatred Rapunzel's gave the obvious priest. Still, he left as quickly as he had come, and the group turned to finish packing. Elsa and Moana hefted their weapons and sacks as they headed to the beach. Then Maui stopped them and took the two sacks in one hand. They looked a question at him.
“Just thought I'd be nice. Seems like some serious not-fun is coming, and I wanted to at least do something to help,” he responded.
They just smiled and nodded. The beach was a flurry of activity as boats were loaded and pushed out to sea. Rapunzel stopped and looked at the small boat the pair had come to the island in. Then she looked to one of the soldiers.
“Tell Captain Renquest to make room for that boat. I don't care how he does it, but get it done fast!” she ordered.
The Marine saluted and started barking orders. Rapunzel turned and smiled at Elsa, “I can tell it has sentimental value. You two on the sail protecting people? Could you have made it any more obvious?”
Moana actually chuckled, and Elsa looked at her cousin with thanks. “Punzzie, I don't know what to say...”
“How about, 'Thank you!'” Maui suggested as he loaded their things into a boat.
Both Elsa and Moana burst out laughing then. Rapunzel looked a question at them. “You'd have had to been there, Punzzie,” Elsa got out between laughs.
“I see,” Rapunzel said simply in response.
“Thank you, though,” Moana said kindly. It was the first time she had taken a nice tone with any of these outlanders.
Rapunzel nodded, and then waved them to a row boat, the same one Maui had loaded and just hopped, literally, into. The group settled into the boat as two soldiers pushed it out into the water and hopped in themselves. The soldiers then rowed the boat strongly to the ship, where they then climbed it just in time to see the soldiers trying to rig something to their little boat to haul it aboard. When they hit the deck, Elsa looked around and couldn't help but have memories of her last voyage aboard a similar ship. She devoutly hoped this one fared better.
It took almost an hour, at which time the tide started going out. Moana and Elsa waved good bye to the villagers who had come to the shore to bid their farewells. Luai in particular stood at the front of their siblings, waving her hardest. Then Elsa inhaled, and shouted as loud as she could, “We'll be back as soon as we can!”
The crowd on shore cheered, and the crew on deck looked at her like a mad woman. Rapunzel just came up and took their hands. “Come on, you two. The Captain gave us his cabin for the trip. And seeing as we are on our turf now, I do have to insist on a change of clothes for you two.”
Elsa cocked an eyebrow, “And how are we to do that? We only have the skirts our people made us. I sincerely doubt anything you brought would fit me, or Moana.”
“True, but sailor's tunics fit almost anyone. It is Maui that is going to be the problem. We'll have to make him pants! And I won't make you lose your skirts, like Anna would. You can still wear them, just add a top to it, and some boots! This deck is dangerous to feet!” Rapunzel said brightly.
Then Rapunzel stopped and looked at Elsa, “I seem to remember you being able to make your own clothes with magic, Elsa. Couldn't you do that for all of you now?”
Elsa shook her head, “I have tried since I came out here, but for some reason, I can't seem to conjure clothes any more. In fact, most of my ice powers seem a bit stunted. I can try again when we get further north.”
Rapunzel just shrugged and waved for the group to follow her. Moana and Elsa nodded, and followed Rapunzel to the cabin they would be sharing on the voyage. When they got there, Rapunzel shut the door and barred it. She then looked hard at Elsa.
“Don't trust Anna, or Horace, the priest. Not for an instant. The moment you turn your back on them, they'll like stick a dagger in it. Maui, you are right about not trusting blood here. From the look Anna was giving you, I'd say she plans to murder you first chance she gets. And that goes for all of you. Don't be alone with her, under any circumstance, and not unarmed either. I know you said you have magic, and Elsa I remember your ice magic, but keep your weapons close just in case,” Rapunzel warned them.
The trio nodded, and then Rapunzel started rummaging around in a sea chest until she pulled out two sturdy white cotton tunics. She handed one to both Moana and Elsa. They quickly put them on, and Rapunzel nodded.
“Not the best thing in the world, but at least now we shouldn't have any complaints by the sailors about your lack of attire. Boots will have to come later. You three bed down. I'll go see about us getting on the way soon,” Rapunzel said as she left the cabin.
Moana didn't wait too long for the door to be closed. She turned to Elsa and Maui, and in a whisper, “We all need to transform. I don't trust her any more than your sister, Elsa. And Maui, we need you to do some scouting to make sure this, Hans, isn't too close. While you go and investigate him, I will be a fly on the wall with Rapunzel, and Elsa, you go snoop on Anna.”
They all nodded agreement, and each transformed into a tiny bug and went their separate ways. Maui got clear of the ship and turned into his giant hawk form and flew off in the direction of the enemy ships. He found them easy enough by the lamp lights they were using. He circled the ships several times, and was confident they hadn't seen the island yet as one sailor was complaining about not sighting land yet, despite the bit of target practice they had had that morning. Maui was tempted to turn into a blue whale and land on the ship, but resisted the urge. Then he realized he had understood the sailor. That meant that Moana had cast her language magic again, which made it so that any demi-god who came in contact with her or simple proximity for humans, could understand spoken languages. He turned and began his flight back to the fleeing ships.
Moana snuck along the deck as a small beetle until she found Rapunzel talking to the what she assumed was the captain of the ship. She crept along the outside of the railing and listened in, carefully.
“Captain, you will treat them all as guests. I know we said we'd only come for Elsa, but really, they are important as well. And she is my cousin, so I won't have anyone causing a problem with her. I at least got them to wear something in the way of decent clothes, so your sailors shouldn't have any problems there,” Rapunzel said.
“It isn't that. My men have seen naked savages all over the seas. It is that they are sodomites, My Queen. Not an issue most of the time, but in this case, it could be. Particularly with Queen Anna,” Captain Renquest said.
“I didn't think you were a Christian man, Captain?” Rapunzel said in a light tone.
“You know I ain't, My Queen. However, every man aboard those Arendelle ships are. You know Queen Anna made sure of it! And Queen Anna looks to be wanting to kill her sister. Now, I am not supposed to have opinions, but unofficially, I don't want her Highness aboard my ship. And if she brings that damned priest of hers, I may have a mutiny from my own men just trying to pitch them overboard!” Captain Renquest said emphatically.
“I am trusting you to make sure that doesn't happen. Neither of us can bar her from speaking to Elsa. And we would be wrong to. And you are right, Anna did look like she wanted to spit on Elsa, and then gut her. And honestly, Captain, unofficially mind you, I'd be awfully tempted to pardon each sailor involved in pitching the priest over, particularly if it is into shark infested waters.” Rapunzel said. Then her face darkened. “And I know she has been demanding it, but she was never crowned Queen of Arendelle. Please, at least when she can't hear, don't refer to Anna as a queen in my presence.”
“As you wish it, your majesty. Now about that canoe, do we really need the silly thing?” Captain Renquest deftly changed the subject.
“Yes. It is Moana and Elsa's boat. They just spent the last three years together on it, just sailing from island to island. And no matter what we think, that island was their home, so if we can bring at least a little piece of it with us, then it is worth it,” Rapunzel replied.
“As you say, My Queen. I'll admit, it is an interesting design. Highly seaworthy. Might have to have some of the yard dogs take a look at it, see if there is any ideas worth taking from it,” Captain Renquest mused.
“That is your business Captain. Now if you don't mind, I need some time to think, alone, please. Today has been a day of revelations,” Rapunzel asked.
For the rest of the time Rapunzel was on deck, she just stared out over the water, not speaking. When she turned to head to the cabin, Moana was quick to fly there and be in bed before she got there.
Elsa flew across the short expanse between the two royalty flagged ships as a tiny beetle and began looking for Anna. She found her in the Captain's Cabin, and with that priest. She was leaning against the bulkhead on the mattress of the bed, even as the priest sat in the small chair that went with the captain's desk. Elsa crawled along the bulkhead until she was in a shadow and listened closely to the conversation.
“Horace, you didn't see or hear the things I did. I did as you said, I went to the hut to talk to her. Punzzie was already there, poisoning her ears with lies,” Anna grumped.
“It is to be expected. You've known for a year now that she does not favor you as Queen. She still refers to you as Queen Regent, as you well know. And now, we have actually found your sister, and your time on the throne nears its end,” Horace said softly, as though to a child.
“It wasn't that, Horace! It was that she made me out as some kind of crazy woman. She even called me a tyrant! If she hadn't been interrupted by that big man, I don't know what Punzzie would have told her about me! Punishing heretics is God's work. Bringing his word to the people will make us stronger for it, and those who do not convert are enemies! You've said so yourself!” Anna countered.
“And now your sister is more than a sorceress? More than just a simple abomination unto our Lord?” Horace pressed.
“She thinks so. Something about being a demi-goddess. Her and her sodomite bitch savage. I haven't seen any evidence of it, so I can't say for sure, but I think all her time int the sun has warped her mind,” Anna replied sourly.
“Then we must be cautious. If you are to retain the throne, then you must get her to declare you the official heir and abdicate the throne. Or she must die, which would leave you as de facto queen,” Horace said with a little too much enthusiasm.
“I've told you this a thousand times. No. I will not steal my throne from a dead woman. I hate what she is, and now what she has become. But I will not kill her. If she won't abdicate, then I'll use her sodomite bitch as leverage with the Regency Council as proof of her being unfit to rule. Two women can't produce an heir after all,” Anna said sourly.
“True, My Queen. But if you are willing to take the throne through such underhanded measures, why not just make it simple and kill her? A knife to the throat when she doesn't expect it would be far kinder than letting her live her life in such sin,” Horace actually sounded curious.
“Maybe it would be, but she is my sister, and I'll not kill her. She will convert to the word of our Lord, and repent for her sin of even existing, not to mention lowering herself to the level of a savage, or she will be imprisoned in the deepest dungeon possible, never to see daylight again, as soon as she is dethroned. Then we'll see how the Alliance, and in particular my heretic cousin, follow my orders then,” Anna said angrily.
“You must be more cautious with the Alliance, My Queen. The English are wary of you. And the Germans are only in it for themselves. And don't forget that Norway is right next door,” Horace warned.
“And what of it? Either they'll follow orders, or they will get conquered by the Concordant. Simple survival should be enough to motivate them,” Anna countered.
“In theory, it should be that simple. Life teaches us that it isn't so, My Queen. But the question becomes, if she won't repent, what to do about the two savages that came with her? They do not strike me as unfamiliar to fighting,” Horace brought the conversation back on track.
“We simply kill them. I highly doubt they are bulletproof. And the big one certainly makes an easy target, with his size. And the bitch deserves the most painful death we can come up with. Maybe we could turn her over to the Inquisition and let Elsa watch as her bitch is broken and ultimately turns on her, before we execute the savage,” Anna said with savage delight.
“It can be arranged. And it would be fitting even if Elsa does repent. The savages are so lost to our Lord, it would be futile to try and get them to repent. But let me ask this one, what if Elsa does repent, and beg forgiveness for her fall into savagery and heretical beliefs? Given her circumstances for the last three years, it is at least understandable that she fell,” Horace continued in that same conversational tone.
“If she repents, and begs forgiveness, then she will have it. She will still relinquish the throne to me, mind you. And then when that is done, she will be taken to a convent for the rest of her life,” Anna affirmed.
“A sound and just plan, I am sure, My Queen. But I do believe we must be ready for the more likely event that she will refused our Lord's message,” Horace said wickedly.
Anna did not seem amused. “I know that look, Horace. Get the thoughts out of your head, right now. There will be no 'unofficial actions' taken. She will live to reach Arendelle. If she has not repented by then, then appropriate official actions will be taken. I'll not wake one morning to find her smothered with a pillow, or be dining with her only to have her drop dead of poison.”
Horace did look suitably chastised then, “My apologies, your Majesty.”
“Good. Now go. I need to get in bed now. Tomorrow will be a long day I am sure. I want to awaken early for morning prayers, and to go see my sister,” Anna ordered.
Elsa waited until Anna had dressed in her bed clothes, crawled into the bed, and blew out the deck lantern. Once she did, she went after Horace. She found him on the stern castle talking with the captain.
“So, did the queen take to the idea?” the Captain asked.
“I am afraid not, my son. And we will have to abort the plan in full. Have your agent go silent. He is to do nothing now. Anna is fully determined nothing shall happen to her sister now, and she would likely order all our deaths if anything does happen to her,” Horace said angrily.
“So be it. She is a strong willed woman after all, and fanatically loyal to her sister. She always has been, too,” the Captain remarked.
“I am aware. I thought for sure though she would do our work for us the moment she saw her with the savage woman. A pity she didn't. Have you sent the pigeon yet?” Horace's voice was back to conversational.
“I have. They should keep their distance. We shouldn't need their assistance at this time. And I did warn them to be watchful for things out of place. The fact that the savages had warning about them does not sit well with me. Magic is the devil's work,” the Captain slammed his fist on the rail.
“Yes, but even the Devil's own tricks can be turned against him. So, be mindful of that, Captain,” Horace lectured.
The Captain nodded. Then he looked at Horace, “Will you be going with Her Majesty to see her sister tomorrow?”
“No, I will not. This will be one of many times Anna will be alone with Elsa without my guidance. She must learn to act on her own at some point, after all,” Horace said sagely.
“If she is to be Queen in full, I guess that is so,” the Captain said.
Horace nodded. “Indeed. For now I must rest myself. I will see to morning prayers for the crew as per usual. We don't want anyone to suspect anything is different.”
“Agreed. I look forward to your service, My Lord,” the Captain said as he bent to kiss a ring that Horace wore.
Elsa knew then that her time was short. She hurried to fly back to Rapunzel's ship, and crawled in bed next to Moana just in the nick of time. Rapunzel came in with a small candle and got into her bed herself, then blew out the candle. Elsa thanked all the gods that Rapunzel hadn't seen the tears in her eyes, and that Moana was currently turned away from her. She felt as though Anna had stabbed her in the heart.
Elsa worked her arms around her wife, who then proved she wasn't asleep yet, by turning over in Elsa's arms, putting her head against Elsa's, and whispering, “I am so sorry.”
Elsa tried to not cry herself to sleep.
She failed.
The next morning came all too early for the trio. Maui was the first to rise and was out on deck when Moana and Elsa came out. He read the despair on Elsa's face, and the anger in Moana's. He waved them over to where he was, in a small island of privacy. When they got there, he gave them a look of pure sympathy.
“I don't know anything about what you two heard last night, but from the looks, it was bad,” he stated the obvious.
Elsa looked away, tears in her eyes. Moana on the other hand growled, “Someone is up to something. I can't figure it out though. I am starting to like Rapunzel though. She really does seem to care. But from what they said, there are some real hard feelings towards Anna and her people. Rapunzel herself seems to be rather angry with them.”
“I can tell you why,” Elsa started. “Because that isn't the Anna both she and I knew! I don't know where that hatred and anger came from, or that backstabbing and scheming attitude. But I know that can't be my sister over there!”
The three were interrupted by a call from Rapunzel. She came over and joined the group. Her face was serious and grim. She looked directly at Elsa.
“I take it you three have been using your magic?” she asked.
Elsa nodded while Maui and Moana gave her a look of suspicion. “Oh, don't be like that, you two. You all told me what you could do. So, I was expecting you to do it,” Rapunzel explained.
“Then how much can we take as true?” Moana asked.
“Well, I don't know who you all were spying on, but from the look on Elsa's face, I can guess who it was. I, personally, have nothing to hide from you three. Spy on me all you wish, I care not.
“What I do care about is that in about two hours, Anna will be boarding this ship. When she does, I want you three to be in plain sight at all times, particularly you, Elsa. I want the crew to see anything she does. We won't eaves drop, but we don't want any foul play on her part,” Rapunzel cautioned.
“Punzzie, I want you there too. Moana and Maui will be hidden, in a way she won't see. But I want you there to back me up, and maybe to hold me back if necessary,” Elsa said firmly. “In the mean time, you told me what Europe is doing. What about America?”
“The United States is staying out of it. They have their own issues to deal with. Namely Mexico and the slave issue in the southern states coming to a head. Otherwise, they don't give a fuck what is going on in the world,” Rapunzel said grumpily.
“I see. Well, I didn't think they would care much, but I was kinda hoping,” Elsa said deadpan.
“Well, for what it is worth, you three come on with me and let's go get some breakfast. I don't know what you have been eating, but you are thinner than I remember. More muscle and tone, but thinner,” Rapunzel changed the topic.
“Well, Moana and the other islanders largely eat fruits and vegetables with a little pork and chicken thrown in. And that has been what I have been eating for the last three years. Also, a lot of swimming and exercise does wonders,” Elsa said with a somewhat more cheerful tone.
“Sounds like something I need to do! Spend three years out on the ocean just living!” Rapunzel said in a joking manner.
“That can be arranged, Punzzie! We do have a boat...” Elsa said slyly.
Rapunzel laughed, “If only I could, Elsa! Unfortunately, I can't leave the alliance in your sister's hands. And if the alliance falls apart, then Arendelle is doomed.” Rapunzel's mood soured fast.
Rapunzel then shook herself, “I am sorry. I have been under a lot of strain and it keeps cropping up.”
Elsa and Moana put their hands on the petite brunette's shoulders. “Hey, we are all family here, so we understand,” Moana said.
Rapunzel managed a weak smile, “Maybe in time, Moana. Just right now, I am not sure how much weight the word 'family' carries around here anymore.”
“I'll deal with Anna, Rapunzel. Don't worry. If we can get through to her, the voyage back to Corona will be long enough. Seeing as how we have to go around South America to do it. However, if things are as bad as you say they are in Arendelle, and Anna can't be reached, I may need your help in taking my country back from her,” Elsa said seriously.
“That would be extremely dangerous ground to walk, Elsa. Are you sure you want to declare Anna an enemy? I am not saying the Alliance wouldn't do it, just that she is family still,” Rapunzel countered.
“As far as I am concerned, that is not my little sister. That is a complete stranger pretending to be her. Rapunzel, you didn't hear what she said, and I won't repeat it, but suffice it to say she is already treating me as an enemy, so I need to do the same,” Elsa's voice was grim.
“As practical and pragmatic as ever, I see,” Anna's voice dripped with wry amusement.
“I have had to be! If I didn't, this hopeless dreamer would float away without me!” Elsa elbowed Moana in the ribs.
Everyone laughed, and even Maui chuckled a bit. “Come on! Let's go get some food!” the big man declared, dispelling the mood before it could set in again.
The group went to the ship's galley and took their bowls of hot porridge and salted meat. They sat together and ate in silence. Moana and Elsa stuck close together, and Maui just seemed to be regarding the whole group. Finally, Rapunzel finished and then looked at them. Her smile was sad.
“I am not looking forward to this, Elsa. Gods know I love you two, but honestly, Anna tests my patience these days. I know you are worried you'd do something stupid, but right now, I am actually worried it might be more likely I'll do something stupid. Maybe I shouldn't be there,” her voice was soft.
“Rapunzel, no. You need to be there. And now that you have said that, I think Moana and Maui should be there too. Moana is my wife, but Maui is just like family too. Let her confront all of us, if she dares. I won't exclude anyone from it,” Elsa's voice was full of determination.
“No, Elsa. I don't belong. I'll hang close, as a mere bug on the rail, but I won't be part of this. Moana has a place as your wife. I am merely the demi-god you met three years ago. We may be friends, be we aren't family yet, I think,” Maui said firmly.
“I agree with Maui, love. I'll be there as your back up, but Maui shouldn't be seen,” Moana's voice was just as firm as Maui's.
“Then so be it,” Rapunzel said with finality.
Just then a call went out on deck, and Rapunzel visibly flinched. “She's early,” she said in a voice as grumpy as ever.
They all came out onto the deck just as Anna swung aboard the ship. She glared at all the sailors, most of who seemed to not notice. Then she saw Moana, Elsa, and Rapunzel. She stormed over to the trio, Maui having been true to his word and was nowhere to be seen, and looked at them all.
“I'll have a word with my sister, alone,” the stress on the last word dripped with anger.
“No, you'll have your say with all of us. Like it or not, Moana is my wife, and Rapunzel is our cousin. There will be no secrets among family. If you have something to say, then say it to all of us,” Elsa commanded in her best queenly voice.
Rapunzel actually looked impressed, but Anna didn't flinch. “Punzie, maybe, but that whore savage slut has no place here!” she sounded like she was barely containing a scream.
“Don't you ever talk about, or to, my wife like that, Anna! If you do, I'll put that white streak back in your hair!” Elsa veritably growled.
Anna did flinch then. She remembered now how she had gotten that white streak. She did not doubt for a second that Elsa would make good on that threat right now. She was behaving more like a savage pagan than a civilized person to Anna's mind.
“Fine, Elsa. Then hear me. I may be only Queen Regent, but you were removed from the throne two years ago. The crown is held in trust by the Regency Council. When we get to Arendelle, you will relinquish that crown to me. Because if you don't, I'll see to it you regret it dearly, sister,” Anna hissed.
“By Te Fiti! What has gotten into you?! The Anna I remember did not care for crowns, or for power! She just wanted to be my sister! What happened to you in these three years?!” Elsa demanded in frustration.
“'By Te Fiti?' What fucking pagan god are you worshiping now, sister?! Is it not enough that you were so lost before as to worship Odin and the others, but now you have to worshiping some savages' gods as well?!” Anna spat.
“You know damned well Christians were not welcome in Arendelle for a reason, Anna! Sure some of them were good people, but you have become the very thing we fought for generations to keep from happening! A Christian bigot!” Elsa cried.
“Don't you dare insult me, sister! I am Queen Regent, and you are just plain Elsa! Not Queen Elsa! And my religion isn't the one up for debate, or the one inferior! Our father and ancestors were wrong! Christianity will make us a stronger people, not weaker!” Anna growled menacingly.
“Oh, really? Then why are we even talking? If you are so certain you can simply claim Arendelle from me, then what is stopping you?” Elsa's voice was soft.
Anna crossed her arms under her breasts and looked away. “Because we are sisters. I owe you the courtesy of letting you willingly step down. I don't want to force it. But I will, if you force me,” her voice was soft and Elsa could hear regret in it.
“Anna, come back to the old gods. Abandon this foolishness. I'll forgive it, and we can move past this. See this evil that has taken hold of you for what it is!” Elsa begged with tears in her eyes.
Anna's eyes flashed with anger, and maybe something else though Elsa couldn't be sure, “Fuck you, you pagan slut! My God is the one and only true god! There are no other gods in this world!” she hissed.
“Not true Anna. I didn't convert on a whim. I met the goddess Te Fiti face to face. Then Moana introduced me, personally, to the others. I have met my gods, can you say the same?” Elsa pleaded.
“Bull shit! It was some demon tricking you! Can't you see that? The old gods, and these new savage ones you worship are all just demons tricking you all and leading you into damnation! I don't care what you think you saw, sister, but I know the truth! All these other gods are little more than the Devil's demons tricking you and deceiving you!” Anna spat back.
“Anna, I know the difference between a demon and a god. I have killed a demon personally. Te Fiti shares the gift of life with the islands of the Pacific, and that is not the act of a demon,” Elsa explained after a moment to cool her anger. “I literally, with my own two eyes, watched Te Fiti return life to blasted and burned out rocks that had been laid waste to by a lava demon.”
Both Anna and Rapunzel were staring at Elsa then. In Rapunzel's case, she had already been told part of this, but not the whole story. Then Anna shook her head violently.
“Liar! All of it, lies! Only the one true God can create life!” she cried.
“Anna, why would Elsa lie to you? Use your brain for a moment instead of that stupid fucking book or priest's word. Think! Elsa has no reason to lie to you!” Rapunzel pleaded.
“Oh, yes she does! She wants my crown back! She would say anything to make me doubt that I was chosen by God himself to lead my people!” Anna spat back.
Elsa, Rapunzel, and Moana just stared at her with their jaws agape. Anna continued, “It was God who gave me the power to destroy those demonic snow monsters you created! And to destroy that fucking ice palace!”
“You destroyed Olaf and Marshmallow?!” Elsa said, shocked.
“Yes! Successfully too! Abominations shall be destroyed!” Anna declared.
“And what of the trolls?” Elsa asked in an almost scared-to-know manner.
“They got away. Fucking lying beasts that they are, when I and my army came to destroy them, they were just gone. Not even hiding in boulder form! Just, gone,” Anna admitted with a harumph.
Elsa let out a sigh of relief. “Good. Grandpappie doesn't deserve what you would have done!”
“Oh, yes he does! He lied and told me you were safe! That you would come back to us! And now I see you are so lost that my true sister will never return! I can see that you will continue to reject the word of the Lord God, and hold fast to these false demonic pagan gods!
“Elsa, when we get to Arendelle, you will relinquish the throne, or I will have you executed!” Anna screamed.
Before either Elsa or Rapunzel could respond, a brown skinned hand lashed out and slapped Anna hard across the face. Anna reeled back and stared in abject outrage at Moana as the smaller islander glared down at her.
“You do not speak to my wife in that manner! I don't care if you are her sister! And if you ever threaten her again, it will be me that you will deal with!” Moana hissed.
Anna reared back and was about to swing a punch at Moana when she felt a vice-like grip grab her by the hand. She snapped around to see the big islander, Maui, standing right behind her. His glare was enough to chill Anna to the bone. She tried to wrench her fist out of his hands, but she would have had more luck trying to lift a mountain.
“I am going to put this simply, miss. You are speaking to three demi-gods. We have spoken to our gods on a regular basis, and fought things you can only imagine. We have been to a realm where monsters rule and faced down some of the worst. If you think you can best us, then you will need more than a mortal army,” Maui said quietly. His entire demeanor was calm and controlled, but Elsa and Moana could see the building rage in his face.
“Fuck you, you lying savage!” Anna spat back at him. That was all she got to say though as Maui flipped her over the side of the boat himself.
All of them rushed to the rail just in time to see Anna break the surface of the water. Elsa looked down on her with pity. Moana was smiling evilly. Anna was sputtering and screaming incoherently at them, and then Moana pointed behind her. Anna turned and her eyes went wide as she saw the rising form of water that seemed vaguely human shaped.
“Anna, meet Tangaroa, god of the oceans,” Moana said seductively.
Anna screamed and tried to swim to the ship even as it sat still, having stopped only for the sisters to have this chat. She reached the ladder up only to be pulled back and lifted up to look directly at the ocean god. It seemed to glare at the redhead as she started praying for God to deliver her from evil. And then it spoke.
“Your prayers fall into nothing but the void, girl. You God is false and full of lies. He cares not for you. But I care for them,” he pointed at the three demi-gods. “They speak the truth, but you will not hear it. So I will make you hear it!” And then Anna shot down into the water and disappeared.
Tangaroa then looked at the three, “Journey to Lalotai. Find her there. If she refuses to accept truth, then deal with her. Her survival will depend on your saving her. Do not fear the evil ones, for I will not let them pursue you just now,” the voice was watery and then the form just splashed into the ocean from whence it came.
Elsa, Moana, Maui, and Rapunzel all just gaped at the ocean. “Um, did that just really happen?” Rapunzel squeaked out.
“Punzie, we need to change course, and we need to change course now,” Elsa said.
“Um, where are we going?” Rapunzel asked with concern.
“Lalotai. Realm of Monsters,” Moana said simply.
Rapunzel nodded and turned to the captain who had come over to see the events. “Captain, we need to change course. Elsa, Moana, and Maui will provide directions.”
“My queen, I'll do as you say, but you sure she isn't drowned from that?” Renquest asked.
“No, Tangaroa is in lesson teaching mode, apparently. She'll live to reach Lalotai, but if we don't get there quick, some monster will have her for lunch,” Elsa said.
“Right,” Rapunzel said as she nodded to the captain.
“Which way?” Renquest asked.
“Give us a second,” Elsa said as the three scanned the horizon and checked the sun. Then Maui turned to the captain, “East, north east,” he declared. “We can give more accurate directions when the sun sets.”
“Alright. Helm! East, north easterly if you will, and put every sail we can out! Don't worry about the Arendelle ships and make all speed!” Captain Renquest cried.
Elsa, Moana, and Maui then looked at each other and then at the extremely worried Rapunzel. There was nothing they could say, and so they said nothing as all of them turned to watch the ship turn and gather speed even as the Arendelle ships started waving flags.
