One
Day of the party.....

Danny rolled over in his bed and only jumped when Jazz jumped on him he shot up she grinned.

“Happy birthday little bro!”

She shoved a package in his hands and he rubbed his eyes partially glaring at her.

“Uh thanks...but you couldn’t have waited until I was actually awake?.....”

“You won’t care about that silly little thing when you see what Vlad brought you.”

Danny glanced at the clock seeing that it was almost noon, he sighed his mother clearly said the party started at three she would have let him sleep in so she could dump birthday punch on him.

“Thanks Jazz.”

“You’re welcome now open your present and toss it aside instead of later.”

“I won’t toss it aside.” he mumbled.

He rolled his eyes as she continued to stare at him expectantly, he opened it and saw a very expensive looking refurbished black and silver watch. He actually hugged her to thank her, it was the same one he had lost when he had to save her unexpectedly, it had been a gift from their grandfather before he passed on.

“Where did you find this?”

“Antique shop, promise not to wear it all the time so we don’t have a repeat performance.”

They looked up as a familiar pain in the ass appeared to take the empty gift box.

“oooh beware the.....”

“Box ghost give it a rest we’re busy.” Jazz snapped.

He huffed.

“Beware!”

He disappeared and they rolled their eyes.

“Go shower and hurry downstairs.”

Danny saw Vlad talking to Tucker and Sam he looked up and Danny raised an eyebrow wondering if Vlad had always looked that thin and weak. He never looked so depressed even when Danny used his emotions against him to trick him he hadn’t looked so...lost.

“Uh hey Vlad.”

“Hello Daniel, congratulations and happy birthday.”

“Thanks, sure you can take time off for a party?”

“Of course I can, I haven’t seen my little badger in so long after all.”

‘His? Since when am I his?’ Danny thought.

Tucker and Sam remained quiet but gave each other a meaningful look.

“Dammit!”

They turned and watched as Jack came in covered in dust and ash, Vlad crossed his arms.

“Oh hey V-man! There’s the birthday man.”

“Hey dad, what did you do?”

“He blew up the grill.” Maddie said.

“We could order pizza.” Danny offered.

“Nonsense Daniel, I’ll take you all out to dinner, this is suppose to be a celebration.”

“I’m under twenty one, pizza is a celebration.”

Maddie elbowed him and he sighed.

“I mean, that would be great thanks so much Vladdy.”

Tucker and Sam laughed while his mother rolled his eyes.

“Not a chance!”

They turned to look at Jack who was mostly cleaned up he looked at thhe group nervously.

“Uh I mean, this is my son’s party I want to cook for it, old V man spends enough money don’t you think? Like he has nothing else going for him.”

Maddie crossed her arms.

“Jack Fenton, be nice.”

“Well it’s true.”

Jazz intervened not really understanding her father’s outburst until she got a good look at his face.

“Well I’m sure daddy can fix grill before too long besides Vlad you didn’t give Danny your present.”

She really didn’t realize what she had just set into motion Vlad nodded with a smile.

“Oh that’s right, we can wait to eat Jack take all the time you need, Daniel you have the same graduation gift as Samantha and Tucker, a paid internship at my computer company if you choose to accept it. However for your birthday, I’ve picked something more extravagant it’s in the garage.”

Despite being excited considering the company’s success, Danny looked at him skeptically, Maddie squealed.

“Oh Danny a job to get your feet wet isn’t that great? Thank him so you can go with him to see your other present.”

“Thanks, I appreciate it.”

Vlad nodded, walking into the garage prepared for a fight Danny’s jaw dropped seeing the expensive silver sports car waiting for him.

“Happy birthday little badger, do you like it?”

Forgetting himself for a moment Danny swiveled around to hug Vlad, Vlad’s mind went blank he held his composure and patted Danny on the back. As the youth let him go he swallowed and resisted the urge to force a repeat performance.

“Consider this a peace offering Daniel, we can set aside our differences.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Daniel I bought this in broad daylight with cameras at the local dealership, you can test it for tampering if you need to right this second but when you find nothing wrong with it I expect that you will agree to the treaty.”

Danny did just that, taking his ghost form he flew through the car, of course nothing was wrong with it and in the glove compartment he found license and registration even insurance information. Vlad signed everything and it was paid in full but Danny’s name was on everything. Climbing out of the car he offered his hand for a shake, Maddie chose then to walk in and put her hands on her hips.

“Oh Danny, you could give him a hug, don’t you like your new car? More importantly don’t you like not having to drive your father’s ghost van every where?”

“Don’t worry Maddie your son was very grateful.”

After a few hours Jack finally gave in but he paid for pizza he clearly wasn’t very happy about the car, from his reaction he didn’t know Vlad was giving his son his first car. The tension in the air was mostly unbearable Vlad decided to leave before the food arrived.

Tucker and Sam left leaving Danny to wait for Valerie he sent a few messages to her phone, but so far she hadn’t said why she hadn’t come to the party or called him. He walked downstairs ready to leave and heard his parents in the kitchen.

“Jack are you listening? Those ectosamples aren’t going to analyze themselves.”

When he just stared at her she sighed.

“Is this about the car?”

“Of course it is! How could you let Vlad give our son his first car?”

“What’s wrong with that?”

“It’s a father’s duty.”

She sighed.

“Jack Danny is still your son, just because Vlad gave him a car doesn’t change that besides he’s a teenager he doesn’t want to drive around in van suited for ghost hunting.”

“I wouldn’t have had a problem with it, at his age I would have loved a van suited for ghost hunting.”

She shook her head.

“Besides I’m selling it anyways.”

“Jack Fenton you can’t sell your son’s car.”

“Oh yes I can, he needs something heavy duty.”

“No.”

“It’s too late I’ve already taken pictures and posted them on the internet first bidder is getting close.”

Danny walked the room and frowned.

“Dad.”

“Danny my boy wait until you see what I did for you.”

“I want to keep the car dad.”

Jack slammed his fist on the table.

“No, end of discussion, I need to check the bidders.”

He stormed out and Danny sighed, Maddie patted his shoulder.

“Sweetie he just has a little damaged pride is all if you hide the car at Vlad’s he’ll get over it.”

He smiled at her.

“Well then I’m going out.”

“See you later.”

Danny was lost in his thoughts as he headed to Valerie’s house, he wondered why it was such a big deal, he wondered why Vlad got him a car like this, he wondered why he liked how Vlad felt in his arms. He shook his head as he pulled into the driveway.

“Okay Danny stop it, he’s old enough to be your dad, there was nothing there........puberty is just coming back because you were distracted too much and that’s not fair to other teenagers.”

Has he tried to shake the slight confusion off he looked up and for the second time today his jaw dropped. Valerie had just passed by her open bedroom window half naked....followed by their completely naked ex English teacher. He frowned.

“I told myself I didn’t have strong feelings for her......it shouldn’t bother me she can do what she wants.”

“Do you always talk to yourself?”

“Yeah most of the time, more often lately.”

He jumped and looked in his passenger seat, Dani smiled and waved she was a little taller but still looked like his kid sister.

“Don’t act so surprised to see me, I came to congratulate you, here.”

She handed him a box and he sighed.

“You know you shouldn’t make a habit of getting into people’s cars without them knowing.”

She rolled her eyes.

“Just open it.”

“Fine.”

Inside the black box was a silver, green, and black pair of glasses.

“Are these for what I think their for?”

“They are if you think their for ghosts you can’t see or sense.”

“Ghosts I can’t see or sense?”

“When the portal broke it split a lot of ghosts trying to get out, the angry, unreasonable sides happen to be floating around. For the most part they just curse the living and throw tantrums but you know what happens when a ghost get’s bored or doesn’t get what they want.”

“How’d you find out?”

“This ghost took over a drunk who had passed out, when he left the person he was still affected by the alcohol. The idiot walked over wet cement I just followed the footsteps and waited he couldn’t figure out how to phase through it when it hardened.”

“Thanks Dani, Do you have anymore?”

She grinned.

“I can get some more, don’t worry about it, so who did you get this car from, I just know your dad wouldn’t have given you a normal car if he could help it.”

“Vlad.”

“No way, are you two like friends now or something?”

“No but he wanted a truce between us.”

“Really? Are you thinking there are strings attached?”

“I have no idea, but my dad is really unhappy about this and his trying to sell it so I’m going to Vlad’s to see if I can leave it there.”

Dani rubbed her chin.

“He’s all territorial over you huh?”

“Maybe a little, my mom tried to tell him it was no big deal but he just got mad and stormed out of the kitchen.”

She shrugged.

“I’ve seen him act pretty silly but I thought he was just a happy person, not a childish one.”

Danny started the car and backed out of the driveway.

“Aren’t you going to see your girlfriend?”

“We’re not dating, I’ll send her a text.”

“Shouldn’t you just......” she quieted as a now clothed Valerie passed by the window kissing another guy.

“No, that’s all she needs.”

He sent the text and drove off Dani patted his hand.

“It’ll be okay.”

“Yeah I know.”

“I’m going to get some more goggles I’ll see you later okay?”

“Yeah see you.”

She phased out of the car and flew off he was now wondering why she couldn’t have just dumped him instead of cheating on him.

When he arrived to his mansion he saw a man leaving he looked like he was pretty upset, looking past him he saw a sight he would never forget. Vlad Masters sobbing and clearly begging the man not to leave.
