Zuko held Toph, rubbing her back and rocking her gently. He was honestly surprised by her crying like this, it hadn't really looked like it should of hurt when she fell.

Though it was a good sign on one hand, normally Toph wouldn't of have even started to cry, let alone need someone to comfort her.

Now, like this, he could tell she was already getting into the little girl mindset that might just help her.

"Shh, it's OK.." Zuko said softly, and when that didn't work, he started to hum lullaby he had heard his uncle sing to a upset baby once. He didn't know the words, otherwise he would of sang it, but it seemed to be working as Toph slowly stopped crying, though she kept her head in his chest, listing to his heart beat.

"..Sorry." She said.

"About what?" He asked, smiling. "Your suppose to be acting like a little girl right now Toph."

"No, I under stand that." She said, and then pulled away a little bit, letting him see a tear stain and the boogery mess on his shirt. "I'm sorry about that." She said sheepishly.

"..I can see I'm going to have to start wearing a water proof shirt." Zuko said, and then started to chuckle.

After a few seconds, Toph joined in.
With Toph now in her play area, Zuko had taken off his shirt, putting it in her Hamper and had already asked Roze to bring him a new one.

Bare chested at the moment He walked over and looked down at Toph, already looking bored out of her mind as she picked up a stuffed Badger mole by the arm and then let it fall.

"This isn't exactly thrilling." She said with a sign.

"Little kids toys aren't always the most amusing." Zuko said. "but you should give it a chance."

He walked over the gate, and sat down next to Toph, and picked up a stuffed dragon.

"Rawr! I'm gonna burn you up!" He said in a deep voice, moving the dragon over so it 'attacked' her neck.

Toph fell over, giggling and trying to get away.

"Ah! No fair!" She acked, and her hands searched for a toy, getting a sky bison.

"Appa will save me!" She said, swinging the toy by it's tail right into Zuko's face.

"OW!" Zuko yelped, grabbing his nose.

"Uh..too rough?" Toph asked, sitting back up, rubbing the back of her head.

"Just a little." Zuko said, Taking a deep breath, trying to calm down.

"Well it couldn't of hurt THAT badly, it's only a stuffed toy." Toph pointed out.

"Apparently, no one every told you that hitting is bad." Zuko said, an edge in his tone.

"Well, not really. I never really got punished too much, for hitting anyone, Mom and Dad thought I couldn't take a real punishment..Uh-oh.." Toph said, trailing off, Figuring out where this was going.

"Then it's time to teach you a lesson." Zuko said, Standing up.

"Look, I get it, no more hitting, hitting bad." Toph said fast.

Zuko only reached down, and picked her up, bringing her close again..only this time she didn't try to cling to him.

"Listen what kind of a punishment are we talking about? A slap on the wrist right?" Toph asked, talking fast and starting to sound scared. "A time out in the corner?"

"No Toph. Hitting one's Elder means that you have no respect for them, and respect must be burned into a child." Zuko said, recalling his own fathers words.

"That..doesn't sound good. you're not going to use fire bending are you?" She asked,then bit her bottom lip.

"Well, No, but when I'm done, you're butt is going to feel like it's on fire." He said.
'this is NOT happening!'Toph thought, her diapers around her ankles, and she was over Zuko's lap.

The Fire lord himself was sitting in a chair, one hand on the small of Toph's back to hold her in place, and despite her best efforts, Zuko was stronger than she had guessed.

'or I'm weaker now than I thought.'

"Now since this it only the first time, and really, you didn't know any of the rules, I'm going to be nice, and only swat your butt 20 times." Zuko said.

"That's nice?!" Toph asked, scared.

"Well, I got 40 from my dad." Zuko said. "But moving along."

Toph shook her head in disbelief. no wonder Zuko had so many issue's that even his issues had issuses.

"Now in order to make sure we don't have any more reasons to spank you." Zuko started.

"I'm going to explain a few simple rules to you now. Rule number one,No hitting."

"I kinda already figured THAT one out." Toph said.

"..Rule number two, No back talking. Talking back to your elder-"

"shows that you have no respect for them, and respect must be burned into a child." Toph finished.

"Yes.." Zuko said, a note of irritation creeping into his voice.

"I should just shut up and let you finish shouldn't I?" She asked.

"Now there's a good idea." Zuko said. "If I may go on?"

"By all means, oh honored elder." Toph said.

"25 smacks. Now, Rule number three. A clean Nursery is a happy one. while normally I wouldn't expect a baby to clean up after itself, you are more in the toddler category. So any mess outside of your play gate,is to be cleaned up as soon as your done. not keepingyour Nursery clean shows that you have no respect for the rules. And a child with no rescpet for the rules won't get far in life, so you need to burn the rules into them."

'25! this is horseshit!' Toph thought.

"This is starting to sound like a mantra. Not back talking or anything, just pointing it out." Toph said, quickly adding the second part.

"Well, when you get told the rules while getting spanked, you tend to remember them." Zuko said.

"understood...and might I add a thank you that you aren't spanking me while saying them." Toph said, trying to suck up now.

"Now the next few rules aren't ones I grew up with, but are for your..er, unique case. You are to Crawl when you move from spot to spot. this will help enforce the little girl feeling, the whole reason we're doing this and uh..frankly.."

"I can't walk around all that well wearing a pillow around my waist." Toph finished.

"Well, not quite how I was going to put it..but yeah." Zuko said, swallowing a chuckle. "Next, Well, I think we've already gone over this..but your in diapers, your expected to use them."

"For everything?" Toph tried.

they had already had this argument, but she was hoping maybe he had changed his mind. her sole experience as o date with filling her pants hadn't exactly been a pleasant one, and she'd actually cried harder than she had earlier because of it.

"Yes, for everything. Don't worry, if you happen to well..you know...I'll get you changed as quick as possible, and neither me or Roze will ever tease you. we're here to help you." Zuko said.

'kinda odd to say considering he's about to SPANK me' Toph thought, but wisely kept it just a thought this time.

"Also, I'm not going to put up with any swearing. Vulgar words will be met with a mouth washing."

"Anything else?" She asked, her butt starting to get a little bit cold, Making a note that she'd have to try and watch the damn swearing.

"Well, I don't supose I could convince you to try babytalk." Zuko started, and toph made a face. "heh, didn't think so. But I was hoping you would start calling Roze Nanny, or Miss Roze, And maybe call me Big brother."

"Sure you wouldn't prefer daddy?" Toph asked, surprizing herself.

"No need to be a smart ass." Zuko said.

"I..I wasn't." Toph said, in a small voice.

"Oh.." Zuko said, going quiet.

"I uh..If you don't like it, big brother is-" Toph started.

"Daddy is fine, if your OK with it I mean." Zuko said.

They both shared a smile, and felt all warm and fuzzy inside.

Right up until they both remembered what was suppose to take place.

"Well, This puts a damper on this touching moment." Toph said, and they both started to laugh.
Roze was heading back with Zuko's new shirt, having gotten one of his more worn out shirts.

It made more sense to her that if Toph ended up making a mess, it might as well be on a shirt that wouldn't be to much of a loss if it had to be throw out.

She stopped hearing Toph crying, wondering what was wrong now,and then heard the slap.

"Oh no..he's not.." Roze said, mostly to herself, and took off running.
"13." Zuko said, his palm coming down into a already red ass.

Toph was bawling her eyes out, though the fight had gone out of her by the 5th swat, and just wanted this to end. She couldn't believe that Zuko had taken this as a punishment, and from the sounds of it, taken it regularity.

"14"

Having never been spanked before in her life, Toph had not known what to expect, but after today she was -never- going to misbehave again if this was her punishment!

"15"

Oh god, couldn't this just be enough, she didn't think she could TAKE anymore.

"D-Daddy please.." She sobbed.

"I'm sorry Toph, but it's for your own good." Zuko said, raising his arm again.

"No it's not!" Roze said, coming over, stopping Zuko's arm in the air.

"Roze, what are you doing?" Zuko asked.

"Stopping you from making a mistake. the same one your father did." Roze said.

That stopped Zuko in his tracks.

Roze wouldn't talk to him though, and pulled Toph off of his lap, cradling her in her arms.

"Oh you poor thing." She said, letting Toph cry and cling to her.

She carried Toph over to the changing table, and laid her down on her front.

"What do you mean the same-" Zuko started to ask, getting up, but was met by a death glare.

"ah..I'll wait till your done."

"D-Daddy was j-just trying to t-teach me to be respectful." Toph sobbed, trying to come to Zuko's defense.

Zuko's mouth dropped. Toph was defending him, after what he had just done? he recalled all of his spankings at his fathers hands..and it usually took way longer after the spanking to start to forgive his father, and think that it had been done for his own good.

"Amazing isn't it?" Roze asked, taking a glob of white cream out of a jar, and starting to rub it on Toph's poor backside.

"She's forgiving you for abusing her, just like you forgave your father."

"Don't even START to compare me to him!" Zuko said, anger filling his voice.

"Why not? You seem to think that raising Toph like he raised you is a good idea. I'm sure that she'll turn out just fine. after all, look at what massive amounts of spanking did to you and your sister.

"Children don't need pain to teach them right from wrong Zuko. they need a parent who's willing to show them whats wrong and whats right. who'll sit down and explain things out. sometimes punishments are needed, but time outs, and maybe slaps to the hand can do the job, Dar better than a harsh spanking. Even when a spanking is called for, you don't keep going on after the child has clearly learned the lesson. after so many hits it stops being about the punishment, and it's just you venting out your anger. Now ask yourself, what did Toph do to deserve this level of abuse?"

"I..She..hit me with a toy." Zuko said.

"A toy. she she hit you super hard? did she cause any damage?" Roze said, narrowing her eyes.

Toph whimpered on the changing table, the cream stung a little at first but now there was a pleasant cooling sensation on her cheeks.

"no. No she didn't. I just..My father always.." Zuko tried.

"Did you ever think that using your father as a role model for how to raise someone wasn't a good idea?" Roze asked, wiping her hands clean and then tugging Toph's diapers back up.

"Zuko, Being a parent is a hard job. and not everyone is meant for it. your father was one of those people. but I'm positive, that if you do everything the opposite of what he did, you'll be a wonderful father." Roze said, helping toph sit up,and then started to wipe her face clean.

"Y-Your right." Zuko said, and came over, Roze moving out of his way.

"Toph, I'm so sorry. what I just did was wrong. can you forgive me?" Zuko asked, taking her little hand in his.

"-sniff- Its OK..I know you were just trying to teach me the rules." Toph said.

She pulled her hand out of his, and Zuko took that to mean she just didn't want me to touch her right now, which he understood, then she launched herself off the table, hugging him.

"Toph!" He yelped, before falling over, her hugging him tight, her face buried in his chest.

"I forgive you daddy." She said again.

Zuko looked down, feeling a brief moment of anger over her knocking him over like that, then just smiled, and on the floor, wrapped his arms around her.

"Thanks."

"I uh..hate to break up the warm and fuzzy feeling." Roze said, now blushing a little herself, and poking her index fingers together.

"But I'm not gonna get banished for talking to the firelord like that am I?"

"No Roze. No" Zuko said, smirking. "in fact, don't be scared to let me hear it when i need to be yelled at. After all, We're supose to respect our elders, right Toph?" He asked, winking.
