Chapter 2
“So, I’m guessing you should have told us about that vision of Yue before my brother swallowed us.” Katara said dryly, giving her boyfriend a pointed, thoroughly annoyed glare that he could barely see in the semidarkness, “What do you think she meant by, ‘She must return to her one true love and be recognized’?”
“She was talking about Suki and Sokka I presume, we did hear Oyaji say he and Ty Lee had amnesia, remember? And I didn’t remember the dream about Yue until just a few hours ago. I think…there was more but that’s all I can remember.” Aang said with a small pout, looking at the deep red, wet walls around them, “Visions don’t make much sense at the best of times anyway. Like waking up the size of mayflies in the morning and finding myself inside one of my friends by lunchtime. So…where exactly in Sokka are we?”
He and Katara sat close together in a small chamber made from…made from Sokka for want of a better word. It was almost stifling hot and the rounded walls close around them glistened with moisture. The only light source came from a glove of water Katara was Bending around one hand, channeling her healing energies through this to create a soft, blue glow. Her other hand she held above her head, focusing on her Waterbending in a way she’d never imagined using again.
“We’re just above his stomach.” Katara said slowly, Aang noticed the sweat that was running down her face as she concentrated, “It was the only thing I could think to do as we came down his throat. I’m Bloodbending his body. Making this chamber for us in his esophagus lining.”
“Ok. Uh, I’m alright now so if I carry us up, do you think you can keep it up till we get out?” Aang asked hopefully.
“No, Aang. We can’t.” Katara said, her voice a little strained, “You don’t understand the human body like I do, like a healer. Bones and skin are tough to protect the body but almost everything else is very, very delicate. If we try to force our way back up the throat, we could really hurt Sokka. We could even kill him.”
“So, our only way out then is,” Aang’s voice trailed off as he looked downwards with a sour expression.
“No, Aang. You don’t understand.” Katara said again, the strain in her voice growing perceptibly, “The stomach is a big bag full of acid. We’d never survive. Manny, she, she went down before us…I, I tried,”
Tears slipped from Katara’s deep blue eyes and a quiet sob escaped her before Aang slipped his arms around her and held her close.
“Shh, it’s ok, Katara. I know you did your best. It’s a miracle we’re still alive and that’s thanks to you.” Aang spoke softly, reaching up to wipe away the moisture that spilled from Katara’s eyes, “But we’re the Avatar and the world’s foremost Master Waterbender. We’re going to find a way out of this but right now, you need to rest.”
Settling himself as comfortably as he could, Aang closed his eyes and assumed a medative state.
“What are you doing?” Katara asked curiously.
“I have learned as the Avatar, I am capable of huge and astounding feats when it comes to Bending the four elements.” Aang said quietly, only part of himself focusing on talking, the rest concentrating hard on their surroundings, “But from you and the rest of our family, I have learned that the key to becoming a true Master is subtlety. Never give all of your energy to any one move but apply only what is needed.”
In the semi darkness, Aang’s tattoos seemed to suddenly flare like the sun before they faded again and Aang opened his eyes, extending his hands out to his sides, palms held upwards. Instantly Katara felt the pressure in the walls around them ease. Fleshy walls that had been trying to close in on them but until now had been held at bay by Katara’s Bloodbending. Katara sagged with relief as she dropped the hand that she had been holding above her head, only keeping the other surrounded by glowing water held up for light.
“Thanks, Aang.” Katara said with a grateful smile, “You’ll always be my one and only true master.”
Aang’s eyebrows shot upwards and his lips trembled as he struggled to keep a grin off his face.
“Ok. That didn’t exactly come out right.” Katara said dryly, narrowing her eyes at Aang’s smirking face.
“Sounded great to me.” Aang said brightly but offered Katara a warm smile, “Come on, Babe. Rest on me for a few hours and when you’re up to it, we’re going to try and get out of here.”
In the confines of the small cavity they were in, the best Katara could manage was to lean into Aang and rest her head against his chest. Although given that she had been continuously Bloodbending to keep them safe for the last few hours, he felt like the most comfortable thing in the world to her right now.
“Even if we can get through the stomach, Aang.” Katara said quietly, shuddering against him at her next thought, “You do realize there is only one way out that way. Well, two actually but I am so not coming out of my brother’s…thing…the next time he goes for a whiz.”
“Don’t worry about that now, Babe.” Aang said with a soft chuckle. He kept his hands outstretch, Bending the chamber around them but bent his head down to kiss the top of Katara’s, “The monks used to say, it’s not the destination that matters but the journey. Try and think of this from a healers point of view. You’re going to get an education in anatomy like no one else ever has before. Think of it as…as a fantastic journey.”
“You’re an idiot.” Katara said getting another quiet chuckle from Aang. Surprising herself slightly, her eyes began to drift closed as sleep began to overtake her, “Wake me up before you get too tired, ok sweetheart?”
“I will Katara. Rest easy, I’ll look after you.” Aang said softly.
As Katara drifted into sleep, the glowing water she’d been Bending about her hand fell away and they were plunged into inky darkness. Aang certainly didn’t mind having Katara’s soft body resting against his and the feel of her rhythmic, steady breathing brought a smile to the young Avatar’s lips.

Sokka and Ty Lee had been shown back to their little guest house by one of the blue robed healers just before nightfall. Although they had been supervised the entire time, the pair had had a pleasant enough afternoon wandering the small village and down to the local beaches and docks.
Clothing had been provided for them and now Ty Lee was dressed in loose green pants that only came down to her knees and a far too large, baggy shirt. She had compensated for the shirt by pulling it into a knot in the front, exposing her midriff and stretching the material tight over her breasts. The young teenage girl had obviously been more comfortable this way but had also seemed to be completely unaware of the many open stares and sly glances that had been directed toward her chest throughout the day, quite a few of those from Sokka.
Sokka was far less comfortable. A man apparently from a Watertribe (although Sokka was told not from his Watertribe) had generously provided him with traditional clothing from his own culture. Sokka however was inclined to believe that the generous gift was anything but, either that or his culture severely hated male anatomy. The high leather boots he’d been given were comfortable enough but the clothes consisted of dark blue leggings and a long sleeve shirt to match that clung tightly to his body. Far too tightly in Sokka’s opinion as he had been forced to constantly adjust his leggings all through the day, the material pinching tightly in delicate places. There had been a looser, longer shirt of lighter blue provided that could be worn over the rest but like Ty Lee, he had been more comfortable and cooler with less on.
Unlike Ty Lee, Sokka had been very aware of the many open stares from women (and even some men) in the village, most looking at the front of his tight leggings and the part of him that was clearly outlined there. Ty Lee, far more discreet with her glances had certainly noticed the bulge there herself and had dropped back to follow slightly behind Sokka on many occasions, her eyes appraising his muscular frame from the rear.
Sokka’s discomfort aside, the pair had had a pleasant afternoon together but they were both frustrated by the time they returned to the small house where they had first awoken. Another tray with their evening meals awaited them but both sat facing each other on their beds wearing frowns.
“Nothing seemed familiar to me here.” Ty Lee said testily, the frown on her face feeling tight and unnatural to her, “And the worst part is, no one will tell us anything.”
“That healer lady said we have to remember on own so I’d guess everyone’s been told not to say anything to us. But yeah, nothing jogged my memory either.” Sokka said, understanding Ty Lee’s frustration he moved to sit beside her and smiled, “I did hear a few things though. Apparently we were coming here with a bunch of other people. One of them was my sister and this Captain of their Warriors that I’m supposed to be in love with, err, Soupy.”
“Suki.” Ty Lee corrected him absently, “That old man, Oyaji said his niece’s name is Suki.”
“Oh, yeah. And then there was this Avatar. I heard someone saying we helped him save the world so maybe we’re all like hero’s or something.” Sokka grinned and held up his arm, flexing his muscles and making Ty Lee giggle at him, “There were some warriors which you were coming to join and there was another one, uh, Tough I think.”
“Toph.” Ty Lee corrected him absently again and suddenly she sat up straight and stiff, holding a hand up to the side of her head.
“Are you ok, Ty?” Sokka asked with concern, reaching around to draw Ty Lee into his side.
“I. I think I remembered something. Her name. Toph.” Ty Lee said slowly, a deep frown on her face as she struggled with the images in her mind, “A face. A girl a little younger than us. And her eyes, they were beautiful, kind of pale green but all misty or something and…there was a feeling…like, like I really like this girl but,”
Ty Lee sighed in frustration, shaking her head as the momentary flash of memory faded again.
“I don’t know. It was just the name and a face.” Ty Lee continued and sighed again, “The feeling was strongest. I guess we were really good friends or maybe sisters.”
Sokka smiled at her again, rubbing his hand on her shoulder as he squeezed her against his side. Ty Lee felt that oddly guilty thrill like she had earlier but still enjoyed the pleasant sensation of his touch, enjoying too the feel of his body pressed into the side of hers. She felt disappointment when he moved away but when Sokka lifted the covers from their tray of food at the end of the bed, Ty Lee’s stomach growled hungrily at the delicious smells rising from the steaming bowls. Grinning, Sokka placed the tray beside Ty Lee and moved to sit back on his own bed. Shifting the tray to her lap, Ty Lee took a large bite from a crumbed fish cake before she looked up to see Sokka still sitting, staring back at her.
“Err, aren’t you hungry?” Ty Lee said around her mouthful, swallowing hastily as she pointed down to the full tray, “There’s plenty for the both of us.”
“Actually, I’m not really hungry…and for some reason that felt really, really strange to say.” Sokka said with a frown but then shrugged and patted his stomach, “And I’ve had this weird ache in here all day. I think I’m just going to change and try to get some sleep. It’s been a weird day, you know?”
“Weird hardly covers it.” Ty Lee agreed, offering a smile of her own.
She bent her head back to the tray in her lap, giving Sokka at least a little privacy as he got up from the bed to begin stripping his clothes. After several frustrated grunts and mumbled curses, Ty Lee looked back up to see Sokka struggling to pull the blue shirt off over his head.
“Here, let me.” Ty Lee said warmly, rising and moving over to him, “Just lift your arms straight up.”
Sokka complied and Ty Lee grabbed the bottom edges of his shirt, lifting the tight garment up and over his head with a little difficulty. By the time she managed to remove his shirt completely, they were standing pressed together, chest to chest. Stepping back again, Ty Lee blushed slightly but her eyes drifted down to the tight leggings he wore.
“How did you even manage to get these things on?” Ty Lee said and then grinned slyly, “You better let me help with these too.”
Sokka had gone deep red but made no move to stop Ty Lee as she undid the drawstring at his waist, although this did little to loosen the leggings. With a little difficulty she hooked her thumbs into the waistline of his leggings and with her tongue protruding from the corner of her mouth, Ty Lee began to slide Sokka’s leggings down. They were proving almost impossible at first but the moment she got the waist of the leggings down to his thighs, they suddenly slipped the rest of the way down easily. Ty Lee lost her balance and followed them down, finding herself on her knees before Sokka, her face only inches from a part of his anatomy that was rapidly swelling toward her. Ty Lee leaned away with wide eyes just as Sokka’s hands reached down to hastily cover his growing member.
“I. I. I’m so sorry. It keeps doing that.” Sokka stumbled over his words, turning away from Ty Lee to reach for his robe at the end of his bed. Ty Lee couldn’t help admiring his tightly muscled behind for a moment before he covered himself with his robe and turned back, his hands still covering himself below and his face almost scarlet, “And, and I’m supposed to have a, a girlfriend. Um, Suki. And besides, we’re really young and, and maybe we shouldn’t,”
Sokka trailed off, feeling incredibly stupid as he stumbled over his apology and hastily moved away to sit on his bed, unable to look directly at Ty Lee. For her part, Ty Lee had remained kneeling on the floor, her face thoughtful at first until she rose to her feet and came over to stand before Sokka, reaching out to turn his face up to hers.
“Actually, I’m the one who’s sorry. I think…I think I really am some kind of flirt or something.” Ty Lee said with a warm smile, although her own face was almost as red as Sokka’s, “Part of me wanted to…embarrass you that way and I’m really sorry, Sokka.” bending down, Ty Lee placed a fleeting kiss on a surprised Sokka’s cheek and she gave him another warm smile, “Thank you for being a gentlemen.”
Although his face still burned with embarrassment, Sokka returned the smile and nodded his thanks to Ty Lee. A short while later, he struggled desperately to be the gentlemen she believed him to be as Ty Lee stripped her own clothing, keeping his face averted until she was beneath the sheets of her own bed. Neither spoke very much afterwards, only to say goodnight before Sokka extinguished the rooms solitary candle.
It was much later that night, after laying in the dark and sleep refusing to come, that Sokka heard the sound of quiet sobs coming from the bed next to his. Sitting up, he struggled to see but with only weak moonlight entering the room through the window above his bed, Ty Lee was just a shape in the near darkness.
“Ty? Ty, it’s ok.” Sokka said softly, reaching out hesitantly but unwilling to touch the girl he knew was naked beneath her sheets, in the darkness he wasn’t sure where his hand might land, “If it’s about before, I’m alright and you don’t need to be embarrassed.”
“It’s not just that.” Ty Lee’s miserable voice returned quietly, “I just…I hate not being able to remember and I’m scared. What if I’m not a good person?”
“Of course you’re a good person, Ty.” Sokka returned warmly.
“But that’s just it. We can’t remember who we were. What if I’m not nice?” Ty Lee said louder, fear plain in her voice, “I wanted to embarrass you before. I wanted to pull your pants down and make you…react…like that and I don’t understand why.”
“But it’s fine now. You apologized for that and I’m fine with it too. It was sort of funny.” Sokka insisted soothingly. Leaving one hand resting on the edge of Ty Lee’s bed, Sokka lay back on his own and stared up at the dark ceiling pensively, “I’m scared too, Ty. There’s this girl out there. This Suki and if they find her, she’s going to come back and expect to have her boyfriend greet her with open arms. The guy she loves. But, I don’t feel…anything. I hear her name…and it means nothing to me. What is that going to do to her?”
Sokka released a heavy sigh but next moment felt soft fingers entwine with his, Ty Lee squeezing his hand warmly.
“You’re a good man, Sokka. That much is obvious with or without memories.” Ty Lee’s voice had calmed considerably and she suddenly sat up on her bed, keeping her sheets wrapped about her, “Listen, if I promise, no embarrassing stuff or being flirty, can I sleep with you? It’s just…I can’t sleep and I’m still kind of scared and…I really don’t want to be alone.”
Sokka tensed at first, embarrassment already creeping in at the thought but he realized instantly that he felt exactly the same way. Tugging at Ty Lee’s hand, he drew her over to his bed, scooting over to one side and tucking his sheet around himself. Ty Lee, her own sheet still wrapped around her, climbed into the bed beside him, again came that slightly guilty thrill but she relaxed quickly next to his warmth. They shifted around to get comfortable and in the end, Sokka lay on his back with Ty Lee curled up into his side, her head resting on his shoulder. Sokka was very aware of the soft flesh pressed against him, even with two layers of the thin sheets separating them but a moment later his mouth opened in a huge yawn, Ty Lee following suit a second after.
“You know. I did wonder why they didn’t give us any night clothes or pajamas.” Sokka said quietly as his eyes drifted shut, “I wonder if everyone on this island sleeps naked.”
“Maybe that’s why you have one of the locals as a girlfriend.” Ty Lee said with a soft giggle, “Goodnight Sokka and thank you…for being my friend.”
Without thinking about it, Sokka turned his head and kissed Ty Lee’s fringe gently before he turned his face back up to the ceiling. Within moments they were both fast asleep.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Sokka and Ty Lee had spent the afternoon exploring the village on Kyoshi Island, the island’s Warriors, still unaware of where they were, awaited their companions return. As the afternoon had progressed Toph was beginning to question the sanity of the Kyoshi Warriors. She had been immensely grateful for the first time in her short life to be blind as the other girl’s had tucked into their roasted ant for lunch. It was bad enough to sit amidst the sounds of crunching, crackling and loud slurping as the other girls had broke open the carapace of the insect to get at the meat within, without the vibrations coming through the ground showing her exactly what the other girls were doing. But when the Warriors had begun teasingly trying to tempt Toph to taste some, they had only backed off when Suki declared Toph to be green enough already.
By just past the middle of the afternoon a small amount of normalcy returned when Suki set the warriors to training, Toph joining in as she had been doing on the ship. She found the movements and martial arts that mirrored many of her own Earthbending forms to be challenging but highly enjoyable. Two things where keeping her distracted today though.
The first was the other warriors. Since their kimonos had been converted to bedding and they felt relaxed and safe enough where they were, the girls happily stripped off their armor as well and Toph found herself working out amidst six older, more developed girls dressed in only their wrappings. A fact that became acutely clear to the blind girl when they practiced different holds or throws.
What truly caused Toph to be distracted from the workout though was the one Warrior who’s company she had come to enjoy the most. More and more, when Toph considered their strange predicament and thought of those who were missing from their group, she thought of Ty Lee. After the weeks spent on the ship, talking and working alongside each other, Toph was finding that her concerns were not as great for Sokka as she would have imagined, not even for Katara or Aang. In fact, while she did worry for her friends, what truly made Toph’s chest tighten in fear was when she thought of the one she had known for the least amount of time. Fear she mainly felt at the depth of feeling she experienced every time she thought of Ty Lee.
The other girl’s had noticed Toph’s distraction during training and so when the other five warriors went foraging for their supper, Suki remained behind at camp and sat down beside Toph.
“Toph? Are you ok?” Suki started softly as Toph sat stiffly beside her, “You seemed a bit distracted before. Are you worried about the others?”
“Yeah. Kinda.” Toph said quietly.
Her face remained half hidden behind her long bangs of black hair but in her hands she toyed with her armband, a piece of meteorite Sokka had given her months before. Suki noticed the way the smaller girl at her side fidgeted restlessly, Earthbending the dark material into different shapes between her hands and Suki knew from this that something more than their missing companions or their unusual predicament had Toph this upset.
“I’m worried about Sokka too but I know he and Ty Lee can take care of themselves.” Suki said warmly, then added under her breath, “So long as she keeps her hands to herself.” clearing her throat, Suki continued in a friendly tone, “And Manny’s a strong Warrior plus she’s got the Avatar, Aang with her and Katara too. I know Katara’s sweet and kind but I’d hate to get on her bad side in a fight.”
This broke through to Toph and she chuckled quietly.
“Yeah, I’ve been there Fangirl. Sugar Queen’s a barrel of fun when you get her worked up. Especially in the mud where we can both Bend.” Toph said smiling. Although her face quickly became pensive again and she bowed her head, hiding more of her face behind her hair, “Suki? There’s something I…it’s just I feel…I think there’s something wrong with me.”
Toph finished with a frustrated sigh and turned slightly away.
“Toph, I think I understand and more than you can know. I want you to listen to me carefully now.” Suki said quietly, smiling as Toph’s face turned slightly toward her, “I know you’ve had a thing for Sokka for a long time but I think you’re just using that to cover your real feelings. I don’t think Sokka is the issue anymore, I think your feelings are focused on somebody else now and you are feeling very confused by this.”
As Suki spoke, Toph’s face turned toward her until she faced the other girl with a incredulous, disbelieving look.
“What? How can you? How did you know?” Toph stammered at first, stumbling over her words and then reach up with both hands to hold her long bangs away from her face, “Is it stamped on my damn forehead?”
Suki giggled but this caused Toph to frown darkly, seeking to rise and move away but Suki grabbed her and pulled her back down.
“There are…changes I’ve noticed in you Toph but mostly I guessed. Please, just listen. I want to tell you something about myself.” Suki’s grin vanished and she took a deep breath before she continued, “The Kyoshi Warriors start their training very young. We eat, sleep and train together every day and as we get older, spending all our time together, sometimes things happen. Lisomi, you know her, she has hair cut short like mine but dark brown. Lisomi was my first time. The first person I ever made love with.”
“Wait. You did it with a girl?” Toph asked, her face and voice awed and excited, “You mean, girls can be together too? Hold on though, what about Sokka?”
“Sokka is the first man I’ve ever loved. The first man I’ve made love to and I hope and pray we will always be together. We’ve talked about our pasts and he’s fine with mine.” Suki said quietly, a soft smile on her lips as she spoke, “Lisomi and I. It was only a few years ago when we were about your age that it first happened and I’ll cherish those moments we had together for the rest of my life. As we got older though, I started looking at the boys but Lisomi, she wasn’t interested in them and we drifted apart. It was difficult between us at first but we worked things out in the end. Lisomi and I are still great friends. She’s plans to marry my cousin, Sanna, back on Kyoshi Island.”
“Whoa.” Toph breathed, “Girls can marry girls on Kyoshi?”
“Boys can marry boys too if they want to. We’re pretty progressive on Kyoshi.” Suki said with a smile but she frowned as she continued, “Toph, about the one I think you have these feelings for,”
“I know, Suki, I know.” Toph said quietly, dropping her face again, “She likes boys. She’s pretty obvious about that.”
“Well, I just want you to understand. There are no obvious signs on a girl that says she prefers girls or boys.” Suki said warmly, slipping her hand into one of Toph’s, “Don’t give up on her just yet. You never know what might happen in the future but at the very least, you can always be good friends.”
“Yeah, I suppose.” Toph said in a grumpy tone although Suki noticed that Toph’s smaller hand griped hers tightly, “Boy, I sure know how to pick em, don’t I Fangirl? First I crush on your boyfriend but he’s only ever seen me like a little sister. Then, I can’t believe I threw myself at Sparky when we were at Ember Island last month but since you and Sokka were an item and Twinkletoes was crushing on Sweetness big time, I just wanted to fit in and be normal. And now? Now I think I like a girl who delights in being every boys ultimate fantasy. I’m such a freak.”
“Toph! You are not and don’t you dare ever say that again. You are a perfectly normal thirteen year old girl.” Suki said sternly at first but her expression softened as she leaned over and kissed Toph’s temple, finishing by whispering in the girl’s ear, “And just between you an me, Toph. You’re really cute. If I wasn’t with Sokka and you were a couple years older, well, you may be a Master Earthbender but I could show you how to really rock someone’s world.”
Toph’s mouth dropped open in surprise before she let out a huge snort of laughter, Suki joining in with her a moment later. Now with a wide grin on her face and one hand still gripping one of Suki’s, Toph raised her other arm and punched a surprised Suki in the shoulder.
“Ow.” Suki gripped, rubbing at the sore spot, “What was that for?”
“My way of saying thanks.” Toph said with a shrug, her grin growing as she lent over into Suki’s side, “Thanks Suki. I’ve been wanting to talk to someone about this for a long time. Thank you for understanding me.”
Suki only shrugged with a smile, then as Toph rested her head against Suki’s shoulder, the older girl lent her head over to rest it against Toph’s, the pair sitting in companionable silence for a time. After a few minutes though, Toph raised her head and turned to Suki.
“There was something else…I mean, I know how girls do it with boys. With the way I see the world, I didn’t have to walk in on my parents in their bedroom by accident like other kids. I just had to put my feet on the floor. That’s why I slept on three mattresses back home.” Suki grinned as she tried to imagine the scenario but beside her, Toph shuddered at the memories before looking seriously at Suki again, “I just wondered, I mean, I have some ideas but…how do two girls…you know, do it together?”
“I’ll tell you some thing’s but,” Suki paused, biting at her lips in hesitation, “If anyone asks, you didn’t hear this from me.”
Again Suki lent over and began whispering into Toph’s ear, the young girl’s pale eyes first going wide before her mouth dropped open a few moments later. By the time the other Kyoshi Warriors returned from their foraging expedition many minutes later, Suki still whispered into Toph’s ear, the younger girl sitting with a strange, lopsided grin on her blushing face. Suki got up to greet the warriors but Toph remained as she was, almost frozen as she thought about the things she’d just learned.
Two of the girls were carrying a freshly caught ant larger than them hanging between two stout poles they had cut from the giant blades of grass all around. Deliberately, they carried it toward Toph, seeking to tease the younger girl once more but before they even got close, Toph punched her fists down onto the ground either side of herself. Two slabs of earth shot out of the ground at an angle, meeting just above Toph’s head, then bringing her fists together, she raised two triangular slabs that sealed her inside her earthen tent. The warriors blinked in surprise and the two carrying the ant looked to Suki.
“Did we go to far again?” one of them asked.
“No. Toph’s fine.” Suki reassured the others with a smile, “She just needs to…think about some things.”
Which is what Toph did. She did not emerge from her tent, even when she felt the vibrations of the other girls cooking and eating their ant for supper and in the tent she remained still by the time the others had climbed into their hammocks for the night. Toph was thinking hard about all that she had learned from her talk with Suki, finally coming to understand and accept the strange feelings and emotions that had been plaguing her for months. For the first time she let her thoughts turn freely to the one she desired, thinking too of some of the other things Suki had told her about and in the privacy of her tent, Toph tried some of those suggestions out, at least, what she could do on her own.
Suki’s hammock hung close to Toph’s earthen tent, her kimono holding her up off the ground and swaying gently, lulling her to sleep. Most of the other girls had since drifted off, their belly’s contentedly full of roasted ant but just as Suki’s consciousness faded she heard a loud, muffled moan from the earthen tent nearby. With a knowing smile, Suki went to sleep confident her young friend was going to be fine.
Much later, Toph too was resting peacefully, enjoying a more relaxed night’s sleep than she had in some time. A softly, rounded face with smiling grey eyes appearing again and again in her dreams. But Toph was suddenly wide awake when she heard a piercing scream quickly followed by shouts coming from outside her tent. With only a thought, the tent withdrew into the ground and Toph was instantly on her feet. Strangely she felt the other warriors dashing about yet could sense no others within the camp but Toph knew without doubt that they were under attack.
What Toph could not yet see and what the other warriors were desperately fighting in the pale moonlight was an enormous spider. Hanging from a thick, silver thread over their camp the thing was twice as large as a flying bison and dangling just above the ground it was striking out at the warriors with it’s four foremost clawed legs. The screaming came from one of the warriors, the young girl’s leg had been caught by the thick black fangs on the creatures head, each fang as large and as long as the leg they had pierced. Still, the girl who had been caught had her silver katana in one hand, slashing repeatedly at the fangs and the face of the spider that held her. Two of the warriors had pulled one of the kimono/hammocks down, hooking one end of the dark green material onto the many claws that covered one of the spiders legs, pulling desperately while across from them, two others were doing the same, the four warriors pulling one leg each in opposite directions. Suki had Lisomi at her side, the pair slashing with their swords at the remaining two legs that could reach them as they struggled to get close to the girl caught in the spider’s fangs. But each jointed leg was at least a dozen feet long and over a foot thick, the warriors swords only managing to take chips from the hard carapace coving these limbs that slashed out at them, keeping the girls away from their friend.
Toph stood ready in a low stance, her hands held loosely out before and her senses prepared to command the earth but still she could not see the spider itself and she dared not strike out at it for fear of hitting the girl it held.
“I can’t see!” Toph yelled out, “Someone give me a damn target.”
Suki glanced behind her, surprised at first. In the sudden heat of battle she had all but forgotten her smaller companion but she certainly hadn’t forgotten the girl’s abilities. With a backward somersault that carried her back beyond the range of the spider’s flailing legs, Suki’s arm flashed out as she hit the ground on her feet, one of her golden war fans flying up and out. Spinning like a boomerang, the golden fan struck the web the spider hung from, slicing clean through the thick, white cable. With an impact that shook the ground, the spider dropped into the center of their camp, suddenly rearing up and waving it’s foremost clawed legs in the air, leaving the four warriors who had been pulling at those limbs hanging from the kimonos attached to the creature’s claws.
This was all Toph needed. She slid one foot across the ground before her while punching one fist into the air and instantly four of the spider’s legs were drawn down into the earth to their first joints while simultaneously a jagged, pointed pillar of hardened earth shot up from under the spider, impaling it between the main part of it’s body and it’s bulbous rear end. It’s front dropped back down to the ground, the spider’s four remaining legs scrabbling beneath it at the thing that had pierced it’s body and the girl who had been caught by it’s fang’s dropped to the ground with a grunt. Instantly Suki and Lisomi dashed forward, grabbing the stricken girl and pulled her back away from the huge struggling spider. As the other four girls got out of the way, Toph captured the spider’s remaining legs as each one touched the earth and with a final, vengeful thrust of her fist, pushed more of the stone spike from out of the ground until it burst out of the top of the spider’s body.
The Warriors quickly gathered around as Suki and Lisomi worked on their fallen comrade.
“It’s ok, Koko. Stay calm. We’ve got you.” Suki said in a level tone that disguised the fear burning through her.
The girl, Koko was still only dressed as the others were in her wrappings and her exposed skin was deathly pale, her entire body trembling uncontrollably. The warriors stared in horror at their friends leg where the spider’s fangs had pierced through her calf. Strangely no blood flowed from the huge, gaping hole but the skin around was blackened, the discoloration visibly moving up the girl’s leg.
“It burns, Suki.” Koko said weakly in a trembling voice, “I can feel it moving. Burning.”
“Girl’s! Restrain her.” Suki barked out in a commanding tone and four of the warriors hastened to comply, kneeling beside Koko and each holding a limb, “Lisomi, tourniquet, now.”
Working quickly and with nothing else on hand, Lisomi stripped the wrappings from her chest, just as quickly tying these high about Koko’s thigh and pulling the white strips tight. Koko moaned and one of the girl’s leant over her, shielding the young girl’s face from what was to come, the other warriors turning their faces away as well. Suki’s however did not look away and her face hardened as she stood up, lifting her silver katana in one hand in a white knuckled grip. Feeling slightly useless Toph remained to one side but blanched when she saw through the vibrations as Suki lifted her sword high and then brought it swiftly down. Koko shrieked into the night as Suki’s blade cut cleanly through her leg just above the knee, blood spraying out over the girls even with the tourniquet binding Koko’s leg higher up. Even with the other four restraining her, Koko thrashed wildly, he head twisting from side to side as her scream continued on and on but Suki was not finished yet. Dropping her sword, she plucked at her own chest wrappings as she dropped to her knees before Koko. With a strip of white cloth in hand, she dug her fingers into the severed end of the girl’s leg, struggling to stem the flow of blood and tie off the exposed arteries. Koko screamed again before she went limp, merciful unconsciousness claiming the girl.
“Good. It’s done.” Suki said, sitting back on her heals when the blood flow stopped, “Fire. Get a fire going and heat a fan. We need to cauterize this.”
One of the other girl’s jumped to her feet without hesitation, going for one of her fans even as she sobbed, tears pouring freely down her face.
“Here.” Toph said suddenly and held her hand out for the fan, “I can do this quickly.”
Frowning a little, the girl handed over the golden war fan and as Toph took it in her own hands she opened it up, placing her palms flat against it’s open sides. She started rubbing her hands together with the fan between them, faster and faster.
“Be ready.” Toph said to the girl who had given her the fan, the young warrior holding up her hand covered with a folded kimono to show that she was.
Toph’s hands were almost a blur now and a moment later the metal fan between them began to glow with heat and she pulled her hands away with a pained hiss. As it dropped, the warrior girl beside Toph lunged with her protected hand, deftly catching the red hot fan and carrying it quickly over to the others. A loud hiss and the stomach turning smell of burnt flesh rose into the night air.
When it was done, Koko was wrapped snuggly in the other’s kimonos before they stood up, surrounding the unconscious girl. Suki’s face was still set in a hard glare but tears poured freely from her eyes as it did from the other girls. One of them reached out with a comforting hand toward her Captain but Suki jerked away from the touch.
“Not yet. Get your weapons girls.” Suki said in a harsh tone.
She scooped up her own sword from the ground and turned to where the enormous spider still struggled. Even with it’s legs trapped in the ground and a thick spike of stone piercing it’s body, it was alive.
“You girls know me. I hate spiders. I still scream like a baby when I see them.” Suki said, something in her voice sending a shiver up Toph’s spine, “Well, now it’s our turn. Let’s see if we can make a spider can scream at us.”
With four warriors following, all of them were spattered with Koko’s blood but Suki looked positively frightening, blood soaking her bare chest and forearms as she and her warriors advanced on the spider with hateful, vengeful glares, their swords gripped tightly in their hands.
It turned out spiders could scream after all. And for a very, very long time.

Katara awoke to pitch darkness, at first confused but the moist heat and smells rising around her soon brought their current situation clearly to her mind. She was surprised though to find herself laying curled up atop Aang.
“Aang? What’s happening?” Katara asked quietly, her hands exploring the boy beneath her, “Are you alright?”
“Hey, Babe.” Aang replied softly, her fingers brushing the smile on his lips, “We’re ok. I let you sleep for a good while and I think Sokka’s been asleep for awhile too. At least, everything tipped up a few hours ago and he hasn’t moved since.”
“Hours? Aang, you should have woken me ages ago.” Katara admonished him although only concern carried in her voice, “You need to rest too, Sweetheart.”
“Hey, don’t worry about me, Tara.” Aang said warmly, “I am still a bit of a kid after all and I’m the Avatar too. I’ve still got plenty left in me.”
Reaching to her waist, Katara drew a small amount of water from the pouches there and raised a blue glowing hand. After the complete darkness, they both blinked in the seemingly bright light. Below her, Aang remained as he had been before she went to sleep, his hands held out to his sides, Bloodbending the small cavity that was currently keeping them safe. He smiled up at Katara with that slightly crooked grin she had first fallen in love with a year before when she’d seen him emerge from an iceberg and unable to resist, Katara lowered her head to brush her lips gently against Aang’s.
“If we get out of this mess, Loverboy, I’m going to enjoy finding out just how much energy you have.” Katara purred and Aang’s eyes grew wide in response but a moment later, hers flew open as well as a realization hit her, “Wait. Sokka’s laying down? This is it. This is our chance, Aang. If his stomach is on it’s side, we might not have to worry about getting through the acid in there at all.”
“There’s my hopeful girl.” Aang said with a wide smile, “Let’s do it then.”
The pair shifted around, preparing to make their move but Katara paused as a fresh realization hit her.
“How are we still breathing anyway?” Katara asked with a frown, “I wouldn’t think there’d be too much air in this little pocket I made and whatever air is in Sokka’s stomach will be pretty nasty.”
“Hey, Babe. Are you forgetting? Having the abilities of the Avatar comes in handy.” Aang told her but frowned himself a moment later, “I can keep the air around us fairly fresh and move us around that way but you might need to take over the Bloodbending once we start moving.”
“Alright.” Katara said, nodding to him as she moved around to embrace Aang from behind, “We can do this. Together.”
While Katara held him firmly from behind, Aang started sweeping his hands apart before himself, one side of the small chamber they were in sliding wetly open. As their hideout collapsed on itself, they found themselves standing in a narrow tube formed from the same dark, wet walls but just before them the floor lifted up in a tightly puckered opening many feet across. Aang kept a shell of air spinning around them and Katara had her legs tightly wrapped about his waist, leaving her arms partly free to keep the walls of Sokka’s stomach opening from closing in on them.
“This is fascinating…and so very disgusting at the same time.” Katara said quietly, Aang chuckling before her, “I still can’t believe we’re inside my brother.”
“Well, we’re about to go boldly where no one has gone before.” Aang said, still chuckling, “All set back there, Babe?”
“Yes. We have to be very delicate as we go, Aang.” Katara told him, “Once I get the opening to his stomach opened, we’ll have to get inside fast before the muscles force it closed again.”
Aang nodded and then watched as Katara’s arms, sticking out before him from either side of his neck, made a parting motion. Before them, the raised, puckered flesh began to lower itself, an opening forming there. Instantly, like a geyser, a blast of fetid, moist air burst forth and Aang condensed the shell of air around them, setting it to spinning faster to keep the noxious smelling fumes away. Still though, as he first lifted them slightly and then carried them over and into the opening, their eyes watered furiously.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ty Lee and Sokka lay as they had fallen asleep many hours before, he on his back with one arm cradled around her shoulders and she curled into his side with her head resting on his chest. A loud gurgling sound came from Sokka and a moment after a loud belch escaped his parted lips. Sokka did not even stir but Ty Lee’s nose crinkled slightly and she rolled over in her sleep to lay facing away from him. At her motion, Sokka rolled as well, curling into Ty Lee’s back with his face nestled in her hair. Still asleep, she snuggled back into Sokka, her own hand reaching out to entwine her fingers with his and drew his hand up to her chest, both of them wearing small, contented smiles as they drifted back into deep sleep.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Ok. I take it back.” Katara said, still choking slightly even with Aang’s efforts to keep the air around them fresh, “This is the disgusting bit.”
Aang was keeping them aloft in a wide, oblong chamber seemingly large enough to fit a small palace within. The soft blue glow Katara held aloft in one hand barely illuminated the distant walls but it was disconcerting to both of them the way those deep red, glistening walls undulated in a constant motion. While below them a veritable lake of greenish liquid shifted and moved from the motions of the walls, yellow foam drifting on the foul looking fluids. Aang carried them quickly along the length of the chamber, the air around still stinging their eyes and throats but it was as they neared the end that Katara cried out.
“Aang. Look down there.” Katara said with a touch of excitement, “I think it’s Manny. Do you think she’s,”
Following her pointing finger, he spied a chunk of something unidentifiable floating on the greenish liquid and laying atop this thing was a distinctive shape in a green kimono. Katara’s face was hopeful but Aang wore a resigned frown, knowing what they would find but still he brought the bubble of air holding them up swiftly over to the floating thing. The moment the blue glow in Katara’s hand brought the figure laying on it’s back into clear focus, she buried her face into the side of Aang’s neck, sobbing wretchedly. Manny had obviously lasted for a short time, managing to climb atop what appeared to be a fragment of fruit and digging her fan’s into it to give her something to hold onto. But the acid within Sokka’s stomach and even the caustic atmosphere had done it’s work. The softer parts of the young girl, her skin and muscles were mostly gone, liquefying even as Aang watched. Her head was mostly gone, only slowly crumbling bone remaining surrounded by a halo of what remained of the girl’s hair, even her kimono and leather armor succumbing to the acid, sloughing away from her remains in tatters.
“It’s ok, Tara. It’ll be alright.” Aang said softly as he carried them swiftly away from the grisly sight, “You tried to save her. You did your best and wherever Manny is now, I’m sure she’s grateful for that.”
Katara only continued sobbing, her body trembling hard against Aang’s back as he brought them to the far end of Sokka’s stomach. Here he paused, his eyes searching for an exit but seeing only the smooth, undulating walls before them.
“I think we might have a problem, Baby.” Aang said, fighting to keep his own fears at bay.
Katara raised her face, searching about herself with red, puffy eyes.
“I was afraid of this.” Katara said quietly, her voice still trembling but she pointed at the walls of flesh before them with her glowing hand, “Do you see the way the stomach walls pinch downwards there? The opening to Sokka’s small intestines will be where the walls all come together. Under the acid.”
“Ok. Ok. We can still do this, Babe. We’re going to get out of this. Are you still with me?” Aang said soothingly and though Katara still looked miserable, she nodded in return, “Alright. You work at keeping the wat…acid away and I’ll keep the air tight around us. When we get to the exit, we’ll Bloodbend it together. Ready?”
Knowing there was no point waiting, Katara swallowed her fears and nodded again. As Aang began to drop them down toward the seething, roiling lake below, Katara began twirling her hands in a flowing, circular motion over his shoulders. The green lake answered her by parting slightly and a moment later she and Aang disappeared below the surface. Katara was almost thankful for the work she needed to do, keeping her mind off of what surrounded them as she held the acid away in a bubble around them while keeping the water covering her hand glowing as brightly as she could. Aang was still having trouble navigating his way though, after a moment bringing them up again the stomach wall and following this he made his way slowly to a place where the walls met in another sunken, puckered opening.
The next few moments proved the most difficult. While both concentrated on their Airbending and Waterbending, then trying to employ gentle nudges of Bloodbending together, the acid surrounding them drew closer, some of it striking the shell of air shielding them and they were both forced to close their eyes and mouths as they were covered with a fine spray of the foul fluid. More and more stinging liquid coated them until the puckered flesh before them finally parted and with a sudden surge of escaping acid, they were carried away with it and out of the stomach.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Curled into Ty Lee’s back, Sokka groaned. Rolling slightly away from her he rubbed at his stomach which had suddenly burned painfully but the sensation quickly passed and with a sigh, he snuggled into Ty Lee again. Once again she unconsciously reached for his hand, taking it in hers and holding it to her chest, both again settling with contented smiles.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Ow. It burns, Aang.” Katara almost wept, “It’s burning me through my clothes.”
After being carried from Sokka’s stomach by a surge of acid, the pair found themselves in a narrow tunnel of pink flesh. The rounded walls were coated in small, waving growths packed tightly together that came almost to their knees and in the light from Katara’s glowing hand, in any other situation it would have been an almost beautiful sight.
“Mine are already falling apart.” Aang said to Katara, reaching up to pull at his collar for emphasis as half of his shirt fell away, reaching for Katara next he began to pull at her clothes, “Come on, Tara. Before it starts to eat into us. We have to get all the acid off us.”
Working quickly, not needing to properly undress as their clothing fell away in their grip in tatters, they began to disrobe. There was no thought of modesty or embarrassment, only getting the burning, stinging cloth away from their skin. Once that was done, Katara emptied both her waterskins into the air between them, she and Aang Waterbending the clear liquid about their bodies to wash the remaining acid from them.
As Katara finished up by setting a globe of water about the top of her head to clean her hair, Aang could not help but appraise his girlfriend’s darkly tanned, naked body. It was the first time he had seen her fully disrobed and he stared in awe at the soft curves of her breasts, each tipped with small, dark nipples. His eyes next drifting down to her narrow waist, the gentle swell of her hips and the dark patch of hair between her legs. Spinning quickly around, Aang began to tremble, concentrating desperately on maintaining the shell of air about them.
As Katara finished with her hair, her skin feeling sensitive but no longer burning, she too could not help appraising Aang from behind. At only thirteen he had filled out a lot in the year they had known one another. She admired his wide, muscular shoulders and biting at her lip she followed the blue line of the tattoo that ran down his spine, her eyes fixing onto his tight rear end set above strong, muscular legs. But she noticed also the slight tremor that wracked Aang’s body as he stood with his back to her.
“Aang? Sweetheart, are you ok?” Katara asked softy, reaching out to try and turn him to her but he stood rooted to the spot stubbornly.
“Fine.” Aang said in a quiet, squeaky voice that gradually grew louder, “Just fine. Why wouldn’t I be fine? I’m fine Tara. Everything’s fine.”
“Aang.” Katara said with exasperation.
She gripped him by the upper arm and with a little more force, managed to turn him around. Aang stood before her with his eyes tightly shut and both hands covering his crotch, still trembling slightly.
“Aang, our clothes are gone. There’s nothing we can do about that and besides, I’d like to think we were going to see each other like this sooner or later.” Katara said, reaching for his arms and trying to pull them away from his crotch.
Aang struggled to keep his hands in place, his head shaking adamantly back and forth but a moment later, Katara applied a bit more effort and pulled them away.
“Oh, my.” Katara breathed, staring wide eyed at the thing that suddenly sprang out and up from beneath Aang’s hands, pointing almost straight up at her.
“I’m so sorry, Babe. I can’t help it.” Aang said in a pleading voice, his face turned to one side with his eyes still tightly closed as though he expected her to strike him down, “It’s just…you’re so beautiful…and seeing you naked…it just…happened…and now it won’t go away.”
Katara could not take her eyes from the thing jutting out from Aang and pointing into the air up at her, fighting hard against the urge to reach out and touch it to see if it was real.
“Is that…is that normal for an Airbender?” She breathed, her eyes still glued, mesmerized by Aang’s engorged anatomy.
“What?” Aang asked with concern. His eyes snapped open to look down at himself, “What’s wrong with it?”
“Oh. Nothing. Nothing’s wrong with it, Aang.” Katara said hastily, first looking away as she blushed furiously and then her eyes where drawn back without her conscious control, “It’s just…Aang, it’s huge.”
“It is?” Aang asked as a slow grin spread over his face, a strange sense of pride swelling in his chest.
Katara finally dragged her eyes away from Aang’s member and up to his face, seeing him blushing just as darkly as her. Just like hers though, his eyes were roaming over her exposed body and Katara felt a thrill of excitement pass through her, causing her blush to deepen and spread down to her chest.
“Uh, maybe, maybe we should concentrate on what we’re doing.” Katara tired to say in a serious tone but her eyes drifted down again, “We, we still need to get out of here.”
“Yeah. You’re right.” Aang said, finally tearing his eyes away from Katara he looked to the side and rubbed at the back of his head with one hand, “Sorry, Tara.”
“It’s ok, Aang.” Katara said, taking one of his hands in her own they began to make their way slowly down the pinkish tunnel before them, “Like I said, we were going to see each other like this eventually. We just have to concentrate on what we need to do to get out of here and not be distracted by, by,”
Katara’s voice trailed off as her eyes fell again to Aang’s erect member as he walked beside her, the sway and bob of it as they moved keeping her mesmerized.
“I understand, Babe.” Aang said with a warm smile, his own eyes glued to Katara’s tan breasts, following their every bounce as she walked, “But, uh, Tara? Just don’t walk in front of me, ok?”
“What? Why?” Katara asked with concern.
Aang’s blush deepened again but he smiled as he looked up into her eyes.
“It’s just, walking beside you is ok. I can’t see too much of your front.” Aang explained, his crooked grin slowly reforming, “But the back looks just as good and I don’t think Sokka would appreciate it if I got overexcited and made a mess inside him.”
Katara gave a loud snort of laughter at this, blushing again at the thought and as they continued on through Sokka, she couldn’t take the grin from her face.
