PART II; A Problem
~*~*~*~*~
Hours passed.
It was a tough match. Fight of the century! Even though she was too late to enter in the qualifying rounds (Then again she would probably loose, some of those guys there were hardcore) she was finally able to have that long awaited match with Drew (who lost in the qualifying rounds).
Drew has her pinned in the corner, but in the nick of time she came back with a dreaded 5 hit combo that ended in powerful Ninja Power Up Move, that ended that match! She came out victorious and had the bragging rights!
But what really was amazing was who won the tournament. It was some guy who called himself Mr. S, and his ninja of choice was Kogarasu-Maru, a thin gangly ninja with the move set of a wet noodle. Maru was the weakest ninja of the whole Super Ninja Combat series, whose only real good quality was his ability to contort himself and avoid attacks, but that, was hard to master and a pain to learn.
But that Mr. S guy chose him, and decimated the competition! No one could lay a hand on him! Let them attack for a few, dodge them easily, and unleashed a flurry of fast, albeit weak, punches. Sure the matches were long, longer deepening on what the opponent chose, but watching that thin, wimpy looking Maru plow through the competition, and even beating last year’s winner, was simply epic.
Jade, who wanted to stick around for the next match set up, decided to leave when some more high school kids started to show up. When she was walking down the street back to Uncle’s shop, she briefly wondered what her clone had been up too.
Surly, something must have happened, because she learned from experience after the year she had to deal with Shendu, the Demon Sorcerers, Valmont and his men, and even the Shadowkhan, was that even though things go just as planned, something wrong was bound to happen.
But, she was at that arcade for a good while, and nothing seemed wrong when she was there, so maybe this was just one of those moments where everything went by flawlessly. But, it was at the moment, Jade realized something. She forgot how they got rid of all the clones last time! How is she going to explain another Jade walking around?
She wracked her brain trying to remember how Uncle and Tohru got rid of all the clones. Maybe Tohru, in his vast free time, came up with a duplication reversal? Maybe there was one already, written somewhere? But that would take forever to find, seeing that Uncle had HUNDREDS of books!
She calmed herself down, telling herself that she can figure something out. The rest of the walk back seemed to take longer then she thought. When she crept up to the shop, a low rumbling came from her stomach.
Stupid her forgot to eat when she was out, and looking at her watch, she just missed dinner. She snuck into the shop, tip-toeing into the hall. She heard the clattering of dishes and running water. When she peeked into the kitchen, she saw her uncle Jackie and her copy standing at the sink, finishing up washing the dishes.
“Wow Jade,” Jackie spoke up, drying his hands. “First you help clean around the shop, and then you offer to help cook, and now the dishes? If it wasn’t past curfew, I would actually take you to the arcade.”
The Jade clone smiled and dried off her hands. “I can always go tomorrow. I’ll just wait for my sister to get back.”
Jade stiffened up when she heard her clone say that, and Jackie looked at the copy confused. “That’s another thing; you keep saying that. We both know well that you don’t have a sister.”
“Sure I do.” The clone smiled. “She’ll be back soon.”
Jackie only chuckled and shook his head, leaving the room. The Jade clone neatly folded the rag she sued the dry her hands when she heard the ‘psst’ of someone trying to get her attention. She turned, and beamed a great smile when she saw the other Jade waving at her.
Before she could say hello, Jade put a finger to her lips and shushed, signaling that she should get closer to her. The Jade Copy looked around confused, and walked up to the real Jade. When she was close enough, Jade reached out and grabbed the copy, and pulled her up stairs, and into an empty room. Jade closed the door, locked it, and leaned her back against it and breathed out in relief.
“Did you have fun?” The copy asked, smiling happily.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Jade exclaimed. The copy recoiled and looked innocent. “Don’t tell uncle Jackie about all this! If Jackie, Tohru, or ANYONE was to find all this out, we both would be in big trouble.”
The clone pouted her lips, her eyes growing big. “B-but I don’t wanna get into trouble!”
Jade stared at her clone for a good second, before putting her face in her hands with a groan. She thought she did the spell right, but this copy was a bit of a wussy! She started to pace around, thinking on how she can get rid of the clone. Tohru must have something written in his notes that could help him, or maybe, with luck, Uncle left out a book that might have it.
There were other options. One was that she made the clone go away, like put her on a bus and wish her the best of luck. Another was to kill the clone, but the little girl thought against that very quickly. She doesn’t have the guts to do that, and even if she did it would be some sort of warped suicide.
She took a few deep breathes, and began to think. First off, she had to get this clone out of sight so no one would see her. Secondly, she has to sneak into the library and try to find a reversal spell that might work. The sooner she gets rid of the copy, the better.
Just as she pondered on what she must do next, she was suddenly brought out of her thoughts when she felt arms around her, hugging her. She looked over her shoulder to see her clone her head on her head against her back, hugging her.
“Uhh, what are you doing?” Jade asked.
The clone looked up to her. “You looked troubled, so I decided to give you a hug so you can feel better.”
With an annoyed groan, Jade reached down and pried the clone’s hands off of her, turning to her as she did. “Look, I need to think, so, can you like-.”
“Jade? Come on, it’s time to go home.” Jackie called to her.
“Aie-yea! Not now!” Jade held her head in dismay. “This can’t be happening!” She felt a presence behind, and she turned. “And I don’t need a hug!”
“Jade?” Jackie called out.
“I’m coming!” The clone suddenly responded.
“Don’t!” Jade turned to her clone and groaned. “Okay, plan. You stay here and hide.”
“Hide? Why?” The clone asked.
“Because, if Uncle or Tohru find you…” She stopped. “Wait, they can find you! This is bad!”
“Why can’t I just come?” The clone asked.
Jade looked at the clone for a second, thinking.
“Where is that girl?” Jackie asked himself, looking around the building. He suddenly heard a loud click from out back, and when he looked out he saw Jade standing next to his car, whistling innocently. “Jade?”
“All ready to go!” Jade gave a thumbs up.
The two climbed into the car, started the engine, and went on their way. As they were driving, Jade kept looking to the back seat and looking down at the floor, seeing the clone lying down and looking up her. She seemed a little annoyed, and when she tried to sit up, Jade reached back and pushed her down.
Jackie didn’t really notice what was happening.
When they finally got the apartment building, and Jackie got out of the car, he looked over and noticed that Jade was still sitting down in the car. He bent down and looked at her confused.
“Just a little tired is all.” Jade said. “I’m just going to sit here for a wee bit.” She put on her most innocent smile.
Jackie only shook his head. “Just lock the door when you are ready.” And he left.
Jade watched as Jackie went into the apartment, and sighed in relief.
“This isn’t very fun.” The copy complained and sat up. “Why do I have to lay on the ground?”
Jade sighed again the turned to the clone, who now sat up on the backseat. “Okay, listen. First off, I’m not your sister. You are a magically created clone of me.”
The copy arched an eyebrow, and felt at herself. “I don’t feel like a clone.”
“That’s because I used an altering spell on you too, so your personality is different.” Jade explained.
The clone scratched her head. “Why would you do that?”
“Because…” Jade stopped herself. “It’s not important.”
“Why do I have to hide too?” The clone asked. “It’s not like I’m bad… Is it?”
Jade sighed. “No, it’s just, I’m not really allowed to mess with all that magic stuff, and the last time I made a copy of myself, it went really bad.”
The clone gasped. “Then, what uncle Jackie said about that arcade… You lied?”
Jade tensed up a little. “Errm, well, kinda.”
The clone suddenly pouted, folding her arms across her chest and furrowing her brow. “And that homework wasn’t mine, was it?”
Jade sighed. She had thought that this clone would be more cooperative, but it seems that, no matter what, another Jade would be trouble. And now this copy, who she thought she turned into a goody two shoes, was getting much more smarter.
“I finished it, by the way.” The clone huffed. “And you shouldn’t have lied.”
Jade groaned. Before she was about to say anything, the saw the clone’s head slump forward.
“You… you want to get rid of me now, huh?” The clone asked.
Jade was shocked. “Well…I…It’s just…”
“I understand.” The clone sighed. “There can be only one Jade, and I’m just a copy. Nothing but a copy.”
Jade looked that clone, as she brought her knees up to her chest and lied her head down on her leg, breathing deeply.
