Kim looked around. “It’s worse than that. We’re butt nekkid in the jungle. We don’t have protection from the sun or even fucking shoes!”
“Which TV show are we in?” Tara asked. “Wild Kingdom or something?”
“Who knows?” Shego said. “Wild Kingdom, Tarzan, Indiana Jones, Sheena.”
Kim shook her head. “But Indiana Jones is a movie, not a television show.”
“Ever hear of premium channels, Princess? HBO, Showtime? Those are cable channels too. We could just as easily wind up in a movie. And it might be a little more dangerous than some sitcom. What if we find ourselves in Private Ryan dodging Nazi machine guns on Omaha Beach?”
The rest of the quartet looked at her wide-eyed. “Holy shit,” Tara said.
Kim started to say something, but was interrupted by her Kimmunicator. She answered it, feeling grateful to herself for attaching it before going to sleep. The hand-held version was now in another dimension. “Go, Wade.”
The signal was scratchy, just like the last time Kim tried to talk to Wade across dimensions. His voice was hard to understand, but Kim could make it out. “Kim, the scan showed pressure building up in both you and Shego. I have to warn you that a rip is imminent.”
Kim rolled her eyes. “I think we’re way beyond imminent.”
“Oh, shit!” Wade exclaimed. “It’s already happened? Can you tell what channel you’re in?”
“All we know is that we’re in a jungle. We haven’t seen anyone yet.”
“Could it be that channel with all the monkeys? The one that freaked Ron out so much?”
Kim shrugged. “Maybe. Seems like there was a village that time, though. I don’t see anything man-made around here.” She thought of something else. “Oh, and it’s worse. We somehow pulled Mom and Tara in with us. They don’t have Kimmunicators and I’m scared to death that we might get separated, like Shego and I did the first time.”
“Wow, I didn’t know that could happen. Everybody that went in the first time was zapped directly by Drakken’s equipment. Hang on. I’m going to try to insert a couple of the wrist Kimmunicators into your channel dimension. I still don’t know which one it is, but I’ll just follow the path of your signal. Watch your heads. I’m not sure where they will pop in.”
The quartet scanned the sky carefully. Sure enough, Shego almost got beaned by one of the inbound Kimmunicators. She picked it up from the ground and handed it to Tara. Anne’s device also arrived.
“Okay, Wade,” Kim said. “We got them, thanks. I think we ought to try to find a village or something rather than just stand out here frying ourselves.”
“Good idea. I’ll look at the schedule and try to find out where you are. If there’s danger, I will be sure let you know what to watch out for.”
“Please and thank you,” Kim said, signing off. She turned to the others. “Which way should we go?”
Mom pointed. “That looks like a trail over there.”
It did appear to be a trail, though a rough one. There were certainly no vehicle tracks. The foursome couldn’t decide which direction to take and finally just arbitrarily picked one. At least there was shade and they wouldn’t barbecue their bare asses right away.
After trudging for half an hour or so, Tara noticed something peculiar about one of the trees ahead. “Look at the shape of that treetop. That one there. Doesn’t it look kinda weird to you?”
“Yeah,” Kim said. “It looks like something is on top of it. Something man-made. It could be a treehouse.”
The four of them picked up the pace. As they got closer, though, Kim suggested caution, as they didn’t know if the occupants were friendly. They came to a stop well short of the apparent structure, scanning it carefully.
“It has a strange roof on it,” Shego said. “Looks like an upside-down life raft, of all things.”
“That could be a good thing,” Anne said hesitantly. “At least we’re in a more or less modern age. So that probably rules out Tarzan. That takes place in the Victorian era.”
“I see someone,” Kim said suddenly. “There on the porch.”
The others looked intently and were able to confirm that a figure was indeed sitting at the edge of the porch, legs dangling.
“What do we do?” Tara asked.
But the decision was taken out of their hands when the unknown person saw them. They heard a scream, faint with distance, then the person quickly climbed down a ladder made of slats nailed to the trunk, running toward them upon reaching the ground. The screaming continued, complete with waving arms.
Kim and Shego went into defensive mode as the person with unknown intentions ran wildly toward the group. Kim dropped into a combat crouch, while Shego fired up her power. Tara and Mom got behind them, leaving the potential fighting to the experts.
As the person came closer, it became more and more evident that the screams were of joy and the person was happy to see them. Then they began to make out some of the words. It sounded like a female voice, though they were hearing only part of it. “Ohmigod...rescue...found me...home...”
“Great,” Kim said. “We need somebody to help us, and she apparently thinks we’re here to rescue her.”
The mystery female came running up, still making sounds of joy. Then she came to a halt a few yards away, looking at them with a shocked look on her face.
Kim’s group was in an equally confused state.
It was a dog. The size of a human teen. Standing upright. Wearing clothes.
“What the fuck?” Tara exclaimed. “It’s a dog!”
“Well, duh,” the dog said, paws on hips.
Tara’s jaw dropped even farther. “A talking dog!”
“Duh again. I’m glad I have you to tell me these things.”
Kim cautiously stepped forward and the others followed. The dog looked a little nervous, but did not back away. Kim looked at her carefully. She looked back, with her absolutely huge blue eyes.
Kim cleared her throat. “Uh, my name is Kim Possible.”
“Hi, I’m Brandy Harrington. Of the Florida Harringtons.”
Kim introduced the others in her group, then asked something she had been wondering. “How did you get to be so big? You’re the same size as a human.”
“I am not,” Brandy said. “Humans are way bigger than me. You guys are pygmies or something.”
“We’re from another dimension. How much bigger are the humans here?”
“My owner is about twice as big as you, and she’s 9 years old.” Brandy shook her head sadly. “Speaking of my owner... You guys aren’t here to rescue me, are you?”
“We’re kinda stranded ourselves,” Tara said.
Brandy sighed heavily. “Great. I’m still stuck with that fucking rabbit. Well, come on back to the house. He’s at a farting contest or something, so he won’t bother us for a while.” She turned in the direction of the tree house.
The humans fell in behind her. “Do you need some clothes?” Brandy asked. “They wouldn’t fit the grownups, but you might be able to wear them.”
“That would be awesome, but we can’t pay you for them.”
“That’s okay, I have plenty of shiny rocks.”
Kim didn’t know what to make of that, so she dropped it. “Thanks.”
“I have to warn you, though, the pants have a hole in the back. The panties too. Your asshole will be in the open air.”
“Huh? Why in the hell would you cut a hole in...? Oh, the tail. Got it.”
Mom hadn’t spoken for a while. “Do you have any friends who are larger, Brandy? It doesn’t have to be a styish fit. Anything would be better than bareass.”
“I’d settle for a sheet,” Shego said from the rear of the group. “I don’t mind looking like a refugee from a toga party as long as---”
Kim waited a few seconds. “As long as what?”
There was no answer. Kim turned around to find no sign of Shego. And she couldn’t possibly have hidden behind something in that amount of time. There were no trees or bushes close enough. She was gone.
“Ohmigod, she got ripped!” Kim yelled. “Everybody join hands, quick! We don’t want to get split apart!”
Anne was still facing forward, and whipped around suddenly to latch onto Kim. But the sudden movement threw her off balance and she fell backward against Brandy. The two of them crashed to the ground. For some reason the ground was incredibly cold. “Aghhhh!” Anne leaped to her feat, but that unexpectedly made the cold worse. A frigid wind whipped through her. Grimacing, she looked around.
They weren’t in the jungle any more. They were in Antarctica, or someplace similar. And still naked. “Oh, god, Kimmie, we’re going to freeze in no time!”
“What happened?” a voice said.
“What do you think happened? We got ripped!” She did a double take. Whose voice was that? She whirled around to find a shivering Brandy. No one else was around, so the two of them had gotten separated from the others after all. “How did you get here?”
“How should I know? I don’t even know where ‘here’ is! What happened to the fucking jungle?”
“I’ll tell you later. We’ll be frozen by the time it takes to explain. We need to find shelter.” She looked around. They were up against what appeared to be solid rock. Looking down the length of it she could see a door. Apparently some sort of facility had been built inside a natural cave.
The two of them tromped through the snow toward the door, moving as fast as they could, feet numb already. Anne was barefoot, not the optimum footwear for snow, and Brandy’s sandals weren’t much better. Even though Brandy had clothes and fur, it didn’t gain her much at this temperature. The clothes were lightweight and she was a short-hair spaniel, not a Siberian Husky.
They started running, hoping the exertion would help them stay warmer and wanting to spend as little time as possible in the snow. The entrance to the cave turned to be bigger than they thought, so it was farther away. But they finally reached it and ran inside, throwing caution to the winds. No matter what dangers were inside the cave, certain death by hypothermia was outside.
It appeared to be a military base. There was equipment everywhere. Great, Anne thought. A war movie. We must be in Russia. Along the wall of the cave were what appeared to be storerooms. Dr. Possible rummaged through some of them and found uniforms, just as she had hoped. They didn’t really look military, though, more like workers.
Not surprisingly, they were in men’s sizes, but at this point she didn’t care and put one on anyway. She helped Brandy into one after finding something to rip a hole for the tail. Needless to say, the uniform was an even worse fit for Brandy. But survival was the issue, not fashion.
This base appeared to have multiple doors to the outside. As they neared a different one, Anne heard sounds of battle outside. It didn’t really sound like projectile weapons, though. She couldn’t figure out what kind of weapons made such noises. Her inclination was to get deeper into the cave, but she decided that she should take a look. If she could figure out what show she was in, she might have an idea what to do. “Wait here, Brandy.”
Anne approached the huge door carefully, then took in the scene outside. Huge machines were approaching. But they weren’t flying or on wheels. They had four legs. Fuck me! she thought. Imperial Walkers. We’re on Hoth.
