Chapter Two
The business proposal lasted all of 2 hours. It could have easily been completed over the phone. There was no reason for Danny and Maddie to have to spend the night, let alone the weekend. Yet Vlad insisted that they stay anyway.
“I have a lovely spa installed just downstairs Maddie.” Vlad cooed to her pleadingly. “It might be a good place for you to go and unwind for a bit.”
“Oh Vlad, I don't want to impose. We'd really just get in you're way if we....”
“Nonsense!” Vlad pulled a small cell phone from his pocket and punched in his maid's number. “I'll have Carlotta take you down there now. You deserve a weekend off, all that hard work hunting ghosts.”
'here we go.' Danny sighed to himself as he prepared to step in between Vlad and his mother. He would insist that they had to go now, and kick the crap out of Plasmius later for trying such a sleazy move. There was no way he was letting this jerk convince his mother to get into a hot tub with him or something.
“And while you're relaxing.” Vlad clapped his hand on Danny's shoulder as the boy started toward the two adults. “I can give Daniel a tour of the yards outside the manor. It's finally warm out and a boy his age should be enjoying the weather.” Vlad narrowed his eyes slightly and dug his fingers painfully into the minimal muscle on Danny's shoulder. The halfa barely managed to swallow his tiny yelp of pain.
“Yeah, Mr. Master, I think that'd be...fun.” Danny wasn't sure what kind of game Plasmius was playing, but he sure as hell was going to find out.
“Are you sure sweetie?” Maddie ruffled her son's hair slightly, gazing at him with an inquisitive stare. After all the complaining he did earlier, Danny's sudden change in attitude puzzled her.”
“Mom, I'll be fine.” He tried his best to sound nonchalant and keep from wincing at the same time. 'Vlad's stronger than he looks.' Danny thought to himself under Vlad's unloosening grip.
“Well....” Maddie paused briefly, contemplating the benefits of a day at a spa. She had been under a lot of stress lately, still reeling from Jack's latest failed experiment, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea. “If you're sure....”
“Go on ahead Maddie, enjoy yourself.” Vlad smiled almost sincerely as his maid arrived. “Carlotta, see that Mrs. Fenton enjoys herself today. The spa is completely state of the art.” He couldn't help but brag.
Without waiting for a word from Maddie, Carlotta took her by the arm and guided her towards a spiral staircase. She turned to cast one last, suspicious, look at her son, but Vlad was already leading him away.
The second his mother was out of earshot, Danny forcibly pulled free from Vlad's grasp and moved to go ghost.
“Relax Daniel, if I wanted to pick a fight I wouldn't have called you all the way out here to do so.” Vlad drawled.
“Right. Because everything in our history together points to the fact that you're just trying to be nice.” The teen practically spat the words as a familiar tingling spread through his stomach. Danny Phantom was ready, and itching, to punch Plasmius right in his smug, condescending face.
Vlad sighed. “I suppose I could beat you into submission yet again, but I'm afraid that would waste time, as well as causing a mess. If you want to hear what I have to say before you're mother grows bored with the spa, then I suggest we move quickly.
Curiosity nipped at the corners of his mind, but Danny refused to let his guard down.
“Talk fast.” His torso began to glow, ready for the transformation at a moment's notice.
“I'm afraid this is a complex, as well as delicate issue Daniel.” Vlad didn't look even slightly intimidated as the younger halfa glared daggers at him. “Would you rather talk, or start a senseless brawl?”
Danny continued his death glare at the older man, who's stone expression did not waver. After letting out a sigh, he pushed the Phantom back into it's hibernation.
“This had better be fucking important.”
“Since when do you use such language?” Vlad mocked horror at Danny's choice of words.
“Since I have no reason to be polite.” Danny's lip curled into a snarl as he contemplated swearing again, just to piss of the Billionaire.
“Teenagers today, no respect for their elders.” Before Danny could interrupt with a snappy comeback, Vlad turned and headed for the nearest door. A confused Danny trotted after him, struggling to match the older halfa's stride.
“You are aware that there is a small town just north of here?” Vlad asked as he pushed open the door that led to his grounds.
“Yeah, it's Dayston, right?” Danny had never visited the small town, but Paulina, Dash and some of the other popular crowd talked about the town's frequent parties. Apparently, alcohol had a way of getting into minor's hands with no interference from the cops.
“Well, I own a hospital in Dayston and....'
“What do you want with a hospital?” Danny cut him off, much to Vlad's annoyance.
“The research lab there is the best in the state, and ......, nevermind, it's not important.” Before Danny could press on further, Vlad quickly resumed speaking. “Anyway, I'm having a bit of trouble with a young girl there, a ghost, or so I think.”
“What, can't fight her off yourself? Getting old there Plasmius?” Danny couldn't help darkly smirking.
“Hardly.” Vlad was confident enough in his own abilities to not get annoyed at Danny's little insult. “The fact is, I'm not entirely sure she's a ghost at all. Whatever she is, she certainly doesn't seem violent. I caught her in one of the patients rooms on two separate occasions, but the second I transformed and she realized I could see her, she took off through one of the walls.”
“And you didn't follow her because.....”
“I tried Daniel, I'm not an imbecile.” Vlad's tone flattened. “She was nowhere to be found. Either she moves with alarming speed, or she managed to teleport away.
“Or she stayed inside the wall.” Danny suggested. “Either way, it doesn't sound like anything suspicious, just a normal ghost, what's the problem?”
“The problem, Daniel, is that she had no aura. No ghostly glow. I would have mistaken her for a human if she hadn't been hovering. I was the only one who was able to see her though, none of the nurses seemed to notice.”
“Could she be possessing someone? Or using mind control.”
“Mind control and possession wouldn't give an average human the ability to phase through walls Daniel.” Vlad rolled his eyes slightly, beginnig to wonder why he asked Danny out to his manor at all.
“Well, lets go and see. Is she there now?”
“I wouldn't know. It might be a good idea for you to see her for yourself though. I would suggest taking one of my cars” a small smile danced on Vlad's lips “but if I know you as well as I think, then....”
A dark energy ring appeared around the older halfa's torso as Vlad Masters faded. In his place stood the ghost-man Danny knew so well, Plasmius.
“You, like me, would prefer to fly.”
Soaring through the air was definitely the best part about his ghost powers. Danny loved the feel of it. Although the wind rush was not as profound as it was when he was human, the freedom was unmistakable. The faster he went, the higher he flew, the more freedom he had. A brief glance in Vlad's direction, one look at the cheered expression on the older halfa's face, told him that the Billionaire felt exactly the same way.
Of course, times like these, when he wasn't tethered by earthly troubles, were the times when THOSE thoughts grew the strongest. Danny Phantom wasn't nearly as profound at keeping them at bay as Danny Fenton was. Before long, he felt THOSE thought's pulling his attention towards the other halfa.
Plasmius's appearance was frightening, in a way. Like a vampire more than a ghost. Not nearly as attractive as his human counterpart. Vlad's hair was white and he was old enough to be Danny's father, but Danny couldn't help but feel a light stirring in his groin when the older man's image flashed in front of his eyes.
'DAMN IT!' Phantom swore to himself. 'I TOLD YOU NOT TO THINK ABOUT THAT! HE'S AN EVIL BASTARD, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU! AND HE'S A GUY!'
Danny shook the image from his mind before it could even fully form. The last thing he needed was for one of THOSE thoughts to take control, making him vulnerable, while his enemy was so close.
“How far is this hospital?” Danny called over to Vlad as they both sailed through the air at top speed.
“Open you're eyes Daniel, the building is right in front of you.”
A/N: what's waiting for Danny and Vlad at the hospital? Is the new ghost dangerous? Please review, but, as I said in the first chapter, flaming is both childish and pointless. I would appreciate constructive criticism though.
