“I mean, really! Eight years later and still no one else has noticed?” Dib ranted, pacing around the office. “The only change has been his height!”
A petite blonde with honey-colored eyes looked up from her notes. “You spend a lot of time with Zim, don’t you?”
“Not with him.” Dib explained. “I have, of course, occasionally worked with him to defeat mutual enemies, but most of the time our interaction is fighting.”
Dib’s therapist, Dr. Melissa Vente, sighed and flipped through her notes. “You follow him around skool, around town, and even to his house, right?”
“Well, yeah, but you’re making it sound like I’m doing something wrong!” Dib shook his now shoulder-length black hair out of his eyes as he spun sharply to face her. “He’s a menace, Missy, and I’m the only one who notices!”
“You’ve broken into his house, Dib. You’ve attacked him, both verbally and physically.” She gave her patient a stern look. “You’ve made him into a public spectacle more than once. It seems to me that you’re the menace.”
Dib growled, furious that Missy was suddenly turning on him after months of confiding in her. “You’ve seen the evidence. I’ve shown you the videos of him removing his disguise! You’ve seen pictures of his ship and his robot! Why are you attacking me?”
Missy smiled slightly. “I’m not, Dib. I have seen Zim without his disguise and I agree…he’s not human.” Dib sat when she gestured to the sofa. Once he had, the doctor continued.
“Tell me something, though, Dib.” She picked up her pen and poised it over her notebook. “What do you think of how Zim looks?”
Dib laughed. “His disguise is completely pathetic! He covers his antenna with a stupid black wig and puts in those ugly green contacts of his and he thinks he looks human! I mean, he doesn’t even try to hide his skin or the fact that he only has three fingers!”
Missy raised one finely-arched eyebrow. “I didn’t ask about his disguise, Dib.” She chided gently. “I asked how you feel about his appearance.”
Dib frowned and stood again, resuming his pacing. It was several long moments before he answered. “He’s gotten much taller since we first met. Nearly six feet, I would assume, so he towers over my own 5’8”. I suppose I’m more accustomed to the color of his skin now, but there’s no denying the oddness of it. It’s this pale emerald color and it’s just so inhumanly perfect. Then there’s his antenna. I know they must function amazingly well since her has no ears or nose but seems to hear and smell just fine. They’re so delicate, though; so fragile looking. His teeth are incredibly pointed and dangerous looking, especially when he laughs and you can see how his tongue is a long, thin, pointed thing. I don’t think it’s necessarily a creepy tongue or anything, but it’s definitely…unique. And fascinating.”
Here Dib paused, staring up at the ceiling as though gathering his thoughts. Finally he continued, though a bit more slowly. “His eyes are really what stand out the most. They’re such an intense, vibrant red. The fact that they’re so expressive makes them almost hypnotizing. I suppose that’s why I dislike his contacts so much. They hide all of the emotions that his normal eyes reveal.”
There Dib paused again, but he was looking expectantly at Missy so it was quite obvious he was done. “And you don’t see anything unusual in your description of Zim?” She inquired.
“Um, no.” Dib sat on the couch once more, frowning at Dr. Vente. “What’s unusual about the way I described him?”
“Dib, if I were to tell you that I had met someone and that they were tall, had perfect skin, a fascinating tongue, and intense, hypnotic eyes; what would you think?” She waited patiently for several minutes, but Dib simply stared at her.
She sighed. “Dib, you follow him around. You describe him in a way that suggests you find his looks to be attractive. You talk about him all the time.” She looked pointedly at her patient. “I do believe you have a crush on Zim.”
“What?!?” Dib half-screamed. “Are you out of your mind? I do NOT have a crush on Zim, of all people! He’s an alien!”
“If it were anyone other than you, Dib, I’d say your actions mean love.” She held up a hand to hold off any protests. “However, considering the circumstances and the fact that it’s you and Zim we’re discussing, I’m altering the diagnosis.”
Dib frowned. “Diagnosis? I don’t understand, Missy.”
“I figured you wouldn’t.” She smiled her gentle smile at him. “I’d say it’s a simple case of xenophilia. You’re a paranormal lover, Dib. Zim is the embodiment of everything you love to learn about. It’s only natural that the lines between you feelings for paranormal knowledge and for a paranormal being would blur. It’s becoming an unhealthy obsession, though.”
“I see.” Dib sighed and rubbed his forehead lightly, feeling a headache building. “Well, Dr. Vente, what do you suggest I do about this?”
“Normally, cases of misplaced affection are very delicate issues.” Missy frowned thoughtfully. “You’re a very special case, though. In this situation, I think a head-on course of action is really the best way to deal with this.”
“Meaning?” Dib asked.
Melissa’s smile was a bit weaker this time. “I suggest you simply tell Zim you have feelings for him. If he’s anything like what you’ve told me, he’ll be a jerk about it. That should kill any warm feelings you might be feeling for him.”
“That sounds like it could be devastating to do under normal circumstances in a situation like this.” Dib observed, wondering aloud about how unprofessional of a suggestion his therapist had just suggested.
She shrugged. “Yes, but as I said, you’re a special case. I can’t see Zim’s rejection bothering you, so I see no harm in confessing. Trust me on this one, Dib. This could be the only way you’ll ever be able to overcome with obsession. Tell him.”
“Okay.”

A/N: Okay, so…that’s chapter two. It’s longer than the other one! Um…we’re starting to get a little more in the way of plot development, though not much, obviously, since it IS only the second chapter. Hope you all like it and remember, this is my first IZ fic, so please give me feedback and let me know how I’m doing! ~ FA
