Chapter 2.
The first thing that Spork noticed about the planet was that it was blue. He had never seen such a blue looking planet. He vaguely wondered what the inhabitants were like. Since Red and Purple considered Zim's mission to be a fake they hadn't kept any of the information on the species that the short one had sent them. His long range scanners had picked up primitive satellite systems so he had activated the ship's holographic program. The Shuvver currently had the appearance of a small meteor and Spork was getting ready to change it once he landed. He would need something native to the planet to properly blend in. Once landed he would scan the planet for Irken technology since the coordinates hadn't been very specific about where on the planet Zim would be. Normally such scans would have been conducted from orbit but there had been something wrong with the atmosphere and it had interrupted his scans.
He landed in an open area on a large continent, far away from any settlements. There were very few landmasses in comparison to the liquid that covered about seventy percent of the planet, whatever it was. It would at least cut down on his scanning time. Instead of immediately changing the hologram like he should have he focused on finding Zim first. He was a little surprised when the screen lit up so fast, he was expecting to have to search the whole planet. It seemed that luck was with him today.
Zim, or the Irken technology at least, was located about twenty minutes worth of travel to the north pole of the planet. His scans also picked up the primitive technology that the Earth native's currently possessed. Which wasn't much. Smeets were allowed to play with more complicated things. Sighing he used the scanners to pick out something he could use for a design. He input the base graphics and the let the hologram spread out over the Shuvver. Once he was sure it was set he took the controls into his own hands and flew off in the direction of what he hoped was Zim.
The Shuvver didn't like being driven so low to the ground and protested by bucking up every once and a while. Spork growled and forced the controls to obey him, nodding to himself when the ship didn't act up again. After about ten minutes he had to slow done as he crossed into the boundaries of a settlement. He brought up the scan once more, and flew slower, following the coordinates. It took him a bit longer to find the largest collection of the Irken technology as the scan wasn't very specific and there was unfortunately a fair scattering of equipment through out the settlement. Most of which was for surveillance.
He parked out front of a strange looking building, but then all of the buildings looked strange to him, and waited. He didn't know where Zim was and he really didn't want to try and test the defenses of an Invader's base. He didn't have any override codes either so he was going to have to wait until someone came out or went in. Sighing impatiently he leaned back and grabbed a can of soda to sip on while he waited.
Spork wasn't sure how long he waited in that one spot waiting for something to happen but it did eventually, though it had taken the setting and rising of the planet's star. He stretched out, wanting to get out of the Shuvver but he didn't have anything that he could use as a disguise and he hadn't really seen any of the inhabitants. The streets had been oddly bare when he had arrived.
The door on the green house slammed open and a short being stepped out, wearing an Invader's uniform. Spork smiled and knew it to be Zim. No one else on the planet would possibly have the exact replicate of an Invader uniform. Not when they hadn't left there own solar system at least. Zim marched down the street, sneering at everything around him. The Invader eyed the vehicle in front of his base carefully, sensing something off. He couldn't figure out what it was, maybe just something about the environment setting off his nerves again. The Earth's environment was particularly hostile to Irkens and it always made him edgy. But it was better to be a little edgy that to end up dead.
Zim continued his march to skool, the strange vehicle following him. He eyed it suspiciously but put it at the back of his head, he had other things to worry about. Like Dib stopping another one of his plans. He curled his fists angrily as he thought about the annoying Earth-monkey. The human was always messing up his plans and trying to capture him. How dare such filth try to undermine him? He continued to ignore the eerie vehicle and stepped into the skool.
Zim watched the vehicle and wondered what it was. It didn't look like a proper Earth vehicle but then even after more than a year on the stinking planet he still hadn't gathered all the necessary information. He was falling behind the other Invaders, soon he would be the last and that was unacceptable.
He glared at it the entire class, trying to figure out why there was something about it that just seemed to call to him. When the final bell rang he couldn't suppress the urge to jump onto his desk and point at it. “Creepy Earth van! Why do you follow Zim?”
“'Cause they know you're an alien Zim!” Dib exclaimed, pointing out the window at what was admittedly a very creepy looking van. It had just sat there all day, not moving once. No one had gotten out and no one had gotten in it. What was its purpose?
“Ha! Fool, no one has seen through my brilliant disguise!” Zim crowed as he hoped off the desk and marched out of the room. He grinned and stopped briefly at his looker to collect his few things that he kept at skool to keep up appearances. He could hear Dib whining about no one hearing him again and he couldn't keep the grin off of his face. It was almost time. Soon he wouldn't have to worry about being last, he would finally bring the horrid planet to its knees.
“You're not getting away that easily Zim!” Dib had a fully loaded water gun and was smirking behind Zim's false blue eyes widened and dodged, not getting away quite fast enough. A pained cry escaped him as the dreaded water touched his neck. Why oh why did he not bathe in paste today? He took off in a run, bursting from the building with Dib hot on his trail.
Spork frowned as he watched the other Irken step into a desolate looking building. He waited for several hours before he saw Zim again. The Invader burst out of the foreboding structure, running frantically as he was chased by what he assumed was one of the natives of the planet. It was a bit taller than the Invader and carried some sort of weapon that was shooting streams of a clear liquid. He could see wisps of smoke curling off of Zim's small form and saw a burn spread across the small one's exposed neck when some of the liquid splashed onto him. The being grinned when it saw Zim's pain and Spork was very hard pressed not to leap out of the Shuvver and turn the Earth creature into goo. Zim could fight his own battles, he was an Invader after all.
“You won't stop me Dib-stink!” Zim shouted and leapt back, out of the range of what could only be described as an acid gun. Despite the pain the Invader wore a demented grin, even if the human managed to stop him from getting to his base his plan would go off. The plan couldn't fail, not this time.
“That's where you're wrong Zim! I have my own plan this time and you've just stepped right into it!” The human cackled aloud, leaping back as he threw something forward. Zim jumped back but the thing exploded outward, a billowing powder engulfing the Invader in a chalky blue. A wind came and blew most of it away, revealing a dusty Zim. The short Irken opened his mouth to say something and faltered as no sound came out. A confused look over came him and his eyes suddenly fluttered shut, his body slumping to the ground bonelessly.
“Ha! Now who's stupid Zim?! I'm not the one unconscious! Now to take you to my basement where I can finally expose you! And why am I talking to myself again?” Dib picked up Zim's limp form before dashing off. Spork was stunned, how had all of that happened? He stared off helplessly instead of starting the Shuvver and taking off after Zim like he should have.
By the time he came to his senses the earthling was out of sight and he was at loss as to what to do. His scans wouldn't pick up Zim specifically. He would have to recalibrate the scanners to pick up a PAK before he could find out where the Invader had been taken..... Or he could blow his cover and fly above the buildings to locate them from above.
It took him about one second to make his decision.
He turned the boosters on and shot into the sky, spinning slowly so that he wouldn't miss anything. He growled as he saw the dark figure of the earthling skulking along the shadows, carrying the limp form carefully. It dashed into a large building, fenced off by electrical lines. Spork breathed deeply, and calmly took the controls and piloted down in front of the structure. He needed to think about what he was going to do. He could risk blowing Zim's cover by just charging in recklessly, but the Invader's life could be in danger and to him that was far more important than some fake mission.
He took a deep breath and stepped out of the Shuvver, bounding quickly to the door of the building. He leaned in the overhang and turned the knob of the door, grimly pleased to find it unlocked. It creaked open and his antennae twitched at the almost painful sound. He entered slowly, ducking with his eyes watchful for any sort of trap or native.
He closed the door carefully, glad when it didn't release another awful screech. He looked around, his gaze sharp. The room was large, and tall enough that he could stand easily inside. There was what looked like an attempt at a couch and there were open spaces that seemed to lead to other rooms. The design was alien and it unnerved him. He had never seen anything like what was in some of the room. He crept forward, carefully opening every door that he came across. One door had stairs leading down, right beside stairs leading up. He pondered momentarily before choosing to check upstairs first, hoping that was where he would find Zim. A raised area would be easier to escape from than an underground enclosed one.
He stalked up the stairs stealthily, vaguely surprised that he hadn't run into anyone yet. It seemed to be a private dwelling so why were there not more natives? He opened the three doors in the upper area and found them all to be private quarters. There was nothing useful in any of them and he scowled. He was wasting time. He carefully opened the door and peeked inside.
Spork watched from the open door, his PAK-legs allowing him to cling to the ceiling and observe. So far Zim was still unconscious and the earthling seemed to be waiting for the small Invader to waken. It was actually better since it gave the tall Irken a chance to try and come up with a semblance of a plan. He hated charging in unprepared, it only led to disaster.
Dib grinned down at his unconscious subject. He had called the Swollen Eyeballs but every agent was busy helping take care of a pack of Chupacabras that had infested New Mexico. He hadn't been able to go because of skool but the chance to finally expose Zim and open him up was much better than tracking and capturing some Chupacabras. He grinned when he saw the dust start to wear off, Zim was waking up.
Zim woke slowly, groaning as he tried to move his arm to rub the grit out of his eye. He frowned when his arm didn't listen to his commands. He turned his head, about to yell at his own appendage when he realized that he was tied down. He struggled against the restraints, pulling on the sharply and cursing wildly. His PAK was tucked firmly into a metal hollow that he couldn't seem to break and whatever Dib had used to tie him was incredibly strong. He tried not to think about what was going to happen if he couldn't escape. He had never been captured so thoroughly before. The human usually messed something up but this time it seemed that his luck finally run out. “Pathetic dirt-monkey! You think you can hold my greatness?!”
“I seem to be holding it rather well. I can already hear the praises I'll get when I show everyone the autopsy video.... I hope you scream really loud,” Dib whispered sadistically as he loomed over Zim, the lights causing the human's face to be shadowed. The glasses glinted and hid Dib's eyes, not letting the bound Irken see what the earth creature was planning to do.
“My squeedlyspooch stays where it is! You can't have it earth-stink, it's Zim's!” Zim hissed and looked around frantically, trying to find something that he could use for escape. In the dim light it allowed his sharp eyes to see better and he noticed something strange. Something distinctly Irken clinging to the basement ceiling. He swept his vision away so Dib didn't think to look at the spot as well but when he brought his gaze back it was gone. A vision to try and keep his hopes up perhaps? Maybe his brain knew something he didn't and it was trying to lessen the blow.
Dib picked up a scalpel and dragged it down the front of Zim's uniform, separating the pink fabric neatly in the middle. He was a little disappointed when he found a plain black shirt underneath but payed it no mind. Zim squirmed futilely, trying to get away from the sharp device. It only made Dib grin wider as he pulled the scalpel away and set it on a near by tray. “It's a little early to be cutting you open. I should test what sort of reactions you have to Earth things.” Dib moved away and gathered a small tray of various things he had in his house. One of them was a beaker of water.
“You already know what water does!” Zim retorted and pulled on his ties. It was bad enough getting the horrid acid stuff on his body, what if the Dib wanted to try putting it on his antennae or something like that? He growled and curled his antennae protectively against his head. He wouldn't give up.
“I know, but my adoring public will want to know. Can't have them uninformed now can we?” Dib purred and brought the acid ever closer. There was a flash of light from the corner nearest the door and the beaker exploded. Shards of glass peppered the area and water flew about, a few drops unfortunately landing on Zim. The short Invader held in the hiss of pain that threatened to escape and ignored the turn of fate for the chance to try and break free.... somehow.
As Zim was blithely ignoring them, Spork leapt out of the shadows, PAK-legs flared out dramatically. The human's eyes widened as he stumbled back, trying to get away from the much taller Irken. Was this one of Zim's leaders? He stared up and up, the tall Irken had to be over seven feet tall and towering over him with the deadly looking PAK-legs made his realize that being tall was a perfect way to rule. Especially if you were that intimidating.
“You took something that isn't yours,” Spork growled and curled his PAK-legs back into their ports. He wanted to use his bare hands, wanted to feel the creature's panic as it realized that it was doomed. He lunged to the left but came from the right, grabbing the short thing by its arms and slamming it into a wall before tossing it aside.
Zim pressed back a scream as he looked up and saw a spectre of the past toss Dib aside. The dead Tallest grabbed Dib by the throat and raised him into the air, staring coldly into honey brown eyes. The ghost-Spork turned caring eyes onto him, as if trying to reassure him before turning back to his prey.
“You are lucky that I want Zim to have the privilege of tearing you limb from limb, he'll kill you. I would have kept you alive.” Spork slammed the smaller being against the wall with every word, wanting the message to stick. The native cried out painfully with every hard slam, the final one there was a loud wet crack that reverberated through out the room and it slumped against his grip. He could feel it breathing against his arms so he let it drop carelessly to the floor. No one but no one hurt Zim.
Spork turned and crushed the device that was supposedly recording everything with a snarl. It wuoldn't do to have them found out, fake mission or not. He turned back and moved forward silently, worried when he saw the blank look on the other's face. He hadn't been to late had he? The earthling hadn't hurt the other had it? Or maybe it was the shock of seeing him, he was after all supposed to be dead.....
“Shhhhh, its alright,” Spork soothed as he quickly undid the restraints. Zim's eyes were glazed and wild, staring at him strangely. The small chest was heaving and his antennae were twitching spastically, moving too wildly to actually do any good. Once Zim was free of his bonds he flailed and fell off of the table, whimpering when he hit the ground.
Zim looked at him, fear welling into his confused eyes as he stared into burnt gold. Spork felt his squeedlyspooch twist and sink. Zim had never looked at him like that before, been afraid... Zim inhaled sharply and shook his head, muttering something intelligible.
The short one stood, knocking his head on the table and scowled, holding his head. He rubbed the spot that he hit and pointedly ignored him, dusting off his uniform. As he did so, blue power rose into the air making Zim cough. It didn't float high enough to bother Spork but he did notice that whatever it was seemed to cling stubbornly to everything. Zim swayed and sat down before his eyes closed once more and he fell over.
Spork bent down and gently picked the other Irken up carefully. He didn't want to dislodge any more of that weird powder lest he end up in the same condition. He would bring Zim back to the base and make sure that the other wasn't seriously hurt. He looked on worriedly and placed him lovingly in the Shuvver. The ride to the base was short and quiet and the taller one couldn't stop himself from smiling. When Zim woke up he was going to be in for quite a surprise. He only he hoped it was going to be a pleasant one. The look in Zim's eyes hadn't been very encouraging.
“I'm so proud of you Zim, you made your dream a reality,” Spork whispered to the unconscious Invader. He trailed his hand down sensitive antennae and smiled gently wanting desperately to see the luscious dark pink eyes but content to wait until the other woke.
