Goliath flew her home in silence. It shouldn't have bothered her. Maybe she was paranoid, but it seemed to her that he was thinking pretty hard about something. She had a little itch between her shoulder blades that was anticipating a dangerous conversation headed her way.
He landed just inside her balcony ledge, set her down like she was something porcelain and expensive. He looked a bit rattled, an ordinary man in a magic forest, blindsided by all his deepest fears. Elisa's stomach sank.
She didn't want to deal with this now.
“Elisa, I-” But his voice failed him as he registered the expression on her face. He glanced aside, looking frustrated and desperately guilty. It caught her off guard. He couldn't possibly blame himself because she fell. An unpleasant twisting sensation caught hold of her midsection. He couldn't possibly blame her-
“Hey,” She said, going for levity, “It's all right, you caught me this time.” There was a laugh in her voice, there was warmth in her voice but it all went wrong somehow. Goliath flinched back from her like she'd slapped him.
The look he gave her...She wanted to reach out and snatch her words back, right out of the air. The impulse was so strong it made her teeth ache. She actually half lifted a hand before she could stop herself.
“It was a joke-”
Goliath stared at her, appalled. It hurt to see his face. Shredding raw strips of flesh from her heart.
“Not to me.” He said softly.
“I'm sorry,” The words fell from her lips without thought. She reached for him.”I'm sorry, I should know better.”
His hands slid up her arms, cupped her shoulders, as if to remind himself that she was there, she was alive-
At least once, he'd thought her dead. She was sure of that. The rest of the clan had come to her with what had happened after the Hunter had “killed” her. One at a time, catching her alone at her apartment or stealing a few minutes with her out of Goliath's earshot. It would have almost been funny if it hadn't scared the crap out of her. Goliath had certainly scared them. His own family.
He'd...he'd damn near lost his mind was what he'd done. Not entirely a shock. She remembered the light in his eyes when he first saw her alive. Goliath had stepped away from the hunter as if the man was just so much background noise. As if someone had just offered him his life back on a silver platter. God, he'd been beautiful.
She wasn't entirely sure when it happened, but Goliath had definitely developed a large, Elisa sized crack running right through him. Across his sanity and out the back. It worried the hell out of her sometimes.
Elisa bowed to the pull of his hands and slid her arms up to embrace him.
“I should have been there.” He sighed, lifting her close.
For an instant, she flashed on a batlike wing, etched by lightning against the clouds.
“You were.” She said quietly, squeezing him tighter.
He ran his talons out though her hair to the ends, letting the dark strands fall. It was soothing for both of them. Elisa felt the muscles under her hands start to relax, the broad shoulders loosening in comfort. She felt her own heartbeat slow, some of the residual jitteriness finally draining away. He pushed his face into her shoulder, breathing her in. She stroked down the back of his neck, and he nuzzled her gently. Elisa sighed, suddenly warm.
This was the second time she'd fallen since her miraculous return from the dead. The first time, an ambush had knocked her right out of Goliath's arms. Brooklyn caught her. After a brief, haunted look her way Goliath had soared off after their attackers. No harm, no foul.
Later, she got the impression he wanted to talk, but Angela interrupted them and Goliath dropped it.
He didn't look to be dropping it this time.
She forced herself to stay relaxed. Commanded herself not to tense up. She knew all she needed to do was pull back, and he would let her go. She didn't especially want to pull back, which surprised the hell out of her. Goliath knew her, he knew what she was like. Every last paranoid, stubborn, secretive inch of her. He knew her, and still wanted...
She was so tired of falling.
As if he could hear the thought, Goliath turned his head and gently pressed his lips to her mouth.
Shock mixed with desire, stiffening her fingers. It kept her from tearing away and running off screaming into the night.
*He* kissed *her*.
She'd barely recovered enough presence of mind to respond and he was already pulling away.
She gaped at him, feeling flushed. He smiled gently, a hint of smugness playing around his mouth.
“I thought-” She had to stop to clear her throat, and the amusement hiding around his mouth flickered to his eyes for a moment. "I thought that was a human custom.”
“Yes.” He said warmly. “ But not unpleasant, as human customs go.”
Elisa laughed, and Goliath looked pleased with himself. On impulse, Elisa tightened her arms, lifting her head to press her lips to his forehead. Her mouth brushed gently across a spur of bone, and she felt him get very still. She trailed her lips down, turned her head to rub her cheek against his.
His hand slid down, resting possessively at the small of her back.
She turned her head to look at him, pulling back a little in surprise. For a moment they stared at each other in nervous indecision. Then the fingers holding her shifted, spreading out, and he lowered her down to her feet. He looked shaken. She caught a flicker of movement, of his tail lashing in agitation. He was breathing faster. The sound grated harshly against her ears.
She'd seen him wrestling with minor gods and not show that much reaction.
He was still holding her. His hand never strayed, just resting there lightly. Not confining. Leaving her a way out.
She could take a step back. They could say their goodbyes and she could escape into her apartment. He wouldn't be happy. But he would let her go.
Elisa took a deep breath and reached out, snaking her hands around his waist, and pulled him closer. She laced her fingers together, locking her arms in a circle. Lightly, she rested the palms of her hands just at the base of his tail.
His whole body jerked at the touch. She looked up as he hissed in a breath and saw his eyes close tightly. His hand on her waist flexed once, hard.
She lifted her hands from their resting place, thinking. She laid the flat of her palm against his back, then ran her hand deliberately down the ridge of his spine to the start of his tail.
He moaned softly in response, his muscles shifting restlessly under her fingers. She suddenly became aware of something firm and getting larger, pressing into her stomach. Her knees felt a bit wobbly and she leaned against him, sighing at how good it felt to give in to the impulse.
Goliath froze. Then he pulled back from her, just slightly. Her heart dropped in her chest.
He got hold of her chin and lifted her head, looking intently into her face. Eye to eye, she could see something fierce and almost pleading looming in his expression. Hope? It was dazzling.
“Do...you...want me to stop?” Elisa sounded completely terrified to her own ears. Goliath stared at her a moment, and let out a breath that was almost a laugh.
He lifted her, and in a sharp twist of movement had her pushed up against the wall. Pushing himself against her. For an instant she felt the whole of his massive weight, crushing the breath right out of her. Then he got a hand underneath her, shifting back, putting his mouth to good work on her neck. She felt his teeth graze her, sharp on the delicate skin just where her jaw met her throat.
In all rights she should have been scared out of her mind. If her heart hadn't leaped up into her throat, she might have been. If relief hadn't already choked her silent, it might have bothered her, not being able to breathe. He didn't want to stop, he wanted...
Oh, she could feel him, wanting. Hard and warm and digging into her thigh.
She got a good handful of his hair, all that thick black hair and he did bite her then, sharp pricks of not-quite pain. Elisa started making noise, and he bit her a little harder, just a little. The hovering possibility of the terrible damage he could do her if he just clamped down with those teeth shot adrenaline down her spine like a sharp spike.
Panting unnaturally, she tilted her head and caught a pointed ear with her mouth. Goliath made a strange growling sound, almost like wood groaning under stress. His wings lifted up and forward on either side of her, creating a little intimate space against the wall. They rustled as he moved, as he pushed against her a little, nudging her.
The motion shot a sharp bolt of sensation to the right area, a flush of blood making her start to sweat. He was about...what she had expected, as far as...sheer size went. He had to be...eight feet...nine feet tall, it was...
Goliath moved against her, and she lost her train of thought. Her body had started screaming in her ear and it really made it hard to...hard to...
He slid his hand down her stomach, and she trailed her fingers down past his belt...he filled her hand through the cloth, and she was holding him, almost without meaning to.
Goliath choked, suddenly leaning on the wall for support and she liked that, she liked that quite a bit. She squeezed a little, and there was nothing accidental about it.
“Oh,” He said softly, thrilling her. The stunned relief in his voice was so thick she could nearly pick it up like a coin off the table. She pushed the cloth aside, wanting more of that, another helping please...
She slipped her hand around bare flesh. He was warm, he was so warm. It took her breath away. She moved her hand, learning the feel of him, the graceful arching shape of him. It felt....different. Something unusual about the way he tapered without a head. Nothing that seemed like it would be...problomatical. Just...large.
She looked up and Goliath had gone very still, his eyes watching her face. His wings were lifted around both of them, shutting out the world.
“We are different.” She awknowledged the obvious with a slight smile.
“I don't care.” Goliath said simply. His gaze was so frank it nearly made her squirm. His heart, laid out for her inspection. He touched her face to lift her chin, and bent down to lean his forehead against hers. The gesture was surprisingly intimate and for a moment she shut her eyes.
He was seeping fluid on her hand. When she pulled her fingers back it clung to her, connecting them briefly with a pearly wet strand. Before Goliath could take it the wrong way she brought her hand to her mouth, licking the evidence off her knuckle, one long stroke of her tongue. She watched his eyes widen with a flush of enjoyment.
His arms came around her, and he tugged at the waistband of her jeans, she was fumbling with the catch, her fingers weren't working right...
She heard cloth tear, and couldn't have cared less. His mouth came hot and breathless against hers. He was kissing her as he pressed the length of himself against her for the first time and the moment couldn't have been sweeter.
Elisa moaned into his mouth, pushing her hips out from the wall, arching as he pressed in close.
She hitched a leg up onto his thigh. It changed the angle, lifted her up. She slid her arms up his chest, draping them around his shoulders as far as they could go.
When he pressed against her again she could clearly see the look on his face. The shudder of pleasure when he slid low until he was nestled firmly between her thighs. The way his eyes shut for just a second, as if he was marking the moment in his memory.
The sight sent her into a mad spiral of physical desire that robbed her of any reason she might have had left.
Elisa made a soft, high, needy little noise as he moved against her. Careful, testing. The head of his penis nudged up against the right place but didn't enter. He withdrew and pushed again, rubbing but not entering.
Her body was howling at her and she pulled at him, wanting him, wanting more of him and not getting it. He was shaking with the effort, actually shaking but he didn't give in to her. The next time he just barely entered her and hesitated, a low growl rolling out of his throat that was more completely not-human than anything she'd ever heard from him. The Big Bad Monster.
Then he looked up at her with something bordering on desperation in his eyes.
“I can't-” he managed, and Elisa's heart sank with shocking swiftness. He shook his head minutely, shutting his eyes. “Elisa, I don't think I can-” He moved, shifted a little against her and gasped.
“Oh,” softly, shuddering. “Oh, Elisa.” His voice was fast approaching high anxiety and a light went on in Elisa's head.
He was about to...ah. Well then.
Elisa felt a warm jolt of emotion mix in a volatile fashion with a hot flush of blood. A stab of lust got grabbed by something considerably softer that was glowing through her chest and making it hard to breathe.
“I don't care.” She breathed his own words back at him. Then she lifted herself, rubbing against him.
They could get to other things next time.
Goliath moaned, a deep, throaty bass sound that vibrated his whole chest cavity. He got a hand under her and lifted her closer. Meeting the tilt of her hips, flesh to flesh.
Elisa flexed the muscles in her thighs, bringing her legs closer together around the length of him.
“Oh-” Goliath choked in shock.
Elisa made an inarticulate gasping sound as the friction increased dramatically. It got worse and better with every thrust, shooting up into her abdomen. Flickering down the inside of her thighs.
Oh, almost...
Goliath had shut his eyes tight, his body tense against her in concentration.
Yes...
She suddenly lost the rhythm of their motion together, grabbing at him blindly as rough, unfiltered joy spilled itself out, shooting sparks right through her.
He pushed himself just inside Elisa once, growling softly, and again...
Goliath convulsed against her with a shuddering, choking gasp that was completely raw and wrenchingly sincere. She thought, listening to him, that it was possibly the finest thing she'd ever heard in her life.
She felt something warm and wet drip down her inner thighs and Goliath sagged against the wall behind her. He was more careful with his weight that time, but still held her tightly pushed up against the brick.
Gasping, she leaned her head on his chest.
"Elisa," He said her name like a prayer "I apologize, I-"
Then he stopped, because she was laughing. He leaned back, and even managed to look a little bit hurt.
"I told you I didn't care. That was-" She stopped, gestured with one hand while her heart swooped in her chest. Her face must have been quite a sight, because Goliath softened immediately. He even smiled at her. Just a small one.
"Yes." His voice caressed the word in a way that even right then was capable of giving her a shiver. "It was."
Of course, her brain had to ruin it for her. She had a sharp unpleasant thought that stole the smile from her face.
" Unless, you meant...you didn't mean you were sorry about you and me, together like this-"
"-No." Goliath cut in sharply.
Elisa suddenly felt lighter. She was in serious danger of grinning like an idiot.
"No?" Damn it, she was grinning like an idiot.
Elisa probably shouldn't have said that. She probably should have told him she was sorry it had happened, that things wouldn't work, they were just too different, it couldn't...
Goliath leaned down so that their foreheads were touching and nuzzled her like he was a cat and she was made of catnip.
Oh, what the hell. She'd give it a shot.
