Chapter One: Tall Order
Finally Zim had done it. Finally, after weeks of painstaking work, with little sleep and even less eating, he had the formula. The formula that would make him tall. After years of ridicule. After years of being shunned by his peers. Finally he would surpass those peers. No longer a mere fry cook. No longer a second rate Invader. He would leave these hurtful names in the past. He would move forward into a future filled with promise.
After he injected himself with the serum he planned to call the Tallest and inform them of his resignation from the Invader field and of his entry into politics. Perhaps he would end up a Vizier. In the fullness of time perhaps he could succeed one of the Brains.
“GIR!” he barked. The small robot scurried over blue eyes flashing red.
“Yes my Master?” he intoned in his small metallic voice.
“Switch to health mode. I want you to keep an eye on my stats. My pak should take care of everything but if it rejects the serum I could die, so this is very very VERY important. Do you understand?” Zim demanded. GIR turned blue once more and tears filled his mechanical eyes.
“Master could get hurt? I don’t want Master to get hurt! I loves you Master! I loves-es yooouu!” The robot fell to his knees and sobbed uncontrollably. Zim rolled his eyes and waited. Suddenly GIR leapt back up. “Okey-dokey!” he cried cheerfully. With an enthusiastic salute he sat tailor style, his eyes glowing a pale green.
A cable lashed out from the small robot’s head and connected violently to Zim’s pack. “Just make sure you stay connected until I say you can disconnect.” Zim warned. GIR nodded forcefully small pink tongue sticking out of the side of his mouth.
“Okay.” Zim breathed. Removing his shirt and tossing it aside he mentally prepared himself. With a deep breath his placed the needle to his neck. With expert moves he found his jugular, or rather the Irken equivalent, and slowly pushed the needle through his skin. Resisting the urge to shudder he depressed the plunger and pulled the needle carefully out pressing a finger to the already healing wound.
The pale blue liquid raced through his veins like ice water. Speeding to his heart it was quickly dispersed throughout his body and absorbed into his system. The slight sedative that Zim had added to numb the pain acted more quickly than he had anticipated. Crumpling to the floor he fell into a light doze.
When he didn’t move for ten minutes the lights went out automatically and all that could be seen was the green glow from GIR’s eyes.

Finally Dib had done it. Finally, after weeks of painstaking packing, moving and unpacking, he had moved out. Nothing had ever felt so good. As he placed his Filler Bunny tube figurine on the sideboard he sighed happily.
The small apartment had four rooms including the bathroom. A small kitchenette was in the corner of the lounge room. A door directly across from the front door lead into the tiny bathroom. A door to the right of that lead to the bedroom. The door to the left lead to his mini-lab.
His love of all things scientific hadn’t died though his paranormal obsession had ebbed after he stopped seeing Zim everyday. The last few years of high school the alien hadn’t even tried to do anything which had taken the excitement out of mandatory education.
So instead of going to University Dib decided to strike out on his own and see what took his fancy while living off a trust fund his father had set up for him. While being a trust fund kid brought him shame he couldn’t deny the joy of being able to do what he wanted to as apposed to what people told him.
Looking around he admired the paint job he had finished that morning. The same blue that had filled his room now covered every wall in the apartment. The roof was darker blue with the constellations painted on it. And, as a testament to his waned paranormal interests, there was a small pink dot labelled in Irken writing just to the left of the milky way where planet Irk would be located if it could be seen from Earth.
Blown up pictures of Zim that Dib liked had been framed and hung on his walls. While he hadn’t been very good at getting evidentiary photos the artistic quality was obvious. His favourite was one taken at night in the park. Zim’s cruiser had crashed and caught fire. The alien had staggered out unscathed and undisguised. The sky had been a eerie blood red, no doubt caused by all the air pollution, and Zim had been perfectly silhouetted against the flames and sky. An alien figure staring up at the few stars that could be seen. Dib had no idea what Zim had been staring at but it looked good.
With another contented sigh he headed towards his bathroom to wash of the paint and change his stained clothes. But before he could there was a knock at the front door.
“Odd, who would visit me?” Dib wondered out loud and went to the door.

Dun dun duuuuuun! Who’s behind the door? Is Zim alive? Are Dib and Zim ever going to get to the mindless fucking? Who knows. Only the author, and I ain’t tellin’ yo.
