A/N: Special thanks to all those who reviewed. There was an overwhelming response in favor of Vi dealing with reality, so here is the updated second chapter.
I would also like to apologize for the shortness of the chapter as well as taking so long to update. The tuesday before Thanksgiving of 2005, I fell asleep at the wheel and went flying off a cliff. I broke both of my legs and only recently got to the point where I could sit at the computer desk for extended periods of time. Hopefully, the next chapter won't take near as long to get out, especially since I literally have time to spare. Thanks to everyone who waited so patiently for this. I hope you enjoy.

Bathroom Choices
She had locked herself in the second floor bathroom of the Sigma Pi frat house. Fear had run up and down her spine so many times, she was surprised she could stand up. Laying before her on the bathroom counter were two objects: one being a stick in a box bought from the nearest Wal-Mart right before her friends dragged her to this post-midterms party, the other a tiny bag with two pills in it that her friends had called ‘tabs’. Either of these objects could drastically change her life. Checking her watch, she saw that she still had about 5 minutes before he showed up. The test would only take three...
Violet Parr heaved a shuddering sigh and tore the stick from the box. A few minutes later, she stared at the digital read-out with her heart stuck in her throat. Shoving the stick back in the box, she shoved the whole thing in the garbage can and filled the can with paper towels until she could no longer see the ‘E-P-T’ logo. Trying to fight back what she thought was a sob, Violet hit her knees in front of the toilet and threw up. How could this be happening? What was she going to tell him? As if on cue, a knock came at the bathroom door.
“Vi? It’s me, Dash. You in there?” Right on time, as always. Flushing the toilet, she rinsed her mouth out at the sink and put a hand on the counter to steady herself. She felt her hand land on something plastic and looked down to the other object she had brought in with her. She heard her little brother call out to her, concern evident in his voice, and right then made her decision.
“Hey, Dash, cool it, already,” she said with false cheer as she opened the door. She looked up into his sky-blue eyes, *When did he get so tall?*, and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“What’s that?” he asked, feeling something in her hand scratch the back of his neck. She gave him a nonchalant look and pulled him down for a deep kiss.
“It’s just a little gift from Wendy and the girls. They said they wanted me to have the perfect stress-free night with that ‘totally hot guy’ that keeps showing up.” Vi watched her little nearly-seventeen-year-old brother smirk while examining the tabs. Slowly, his smirk twisted into a worried frown.
“Are you sure they don’t know about us being, y’know, related?” Before she could respond, a light of recognition flickered in his eyes. “Wait a minute: Vi, is this Ecstasy?” He gave her that same concerned look their father had had burned into his visage by her 16th birthday.
“Before you say another word, I want you to know that I was just about to flush these. I decided to let you in first so you wouldn’t get worried, is all.” She saw relief flood his face and felt a wave of guilt put her already uneasy stomach in knots. Violet secretly wished that there was some way to avoid telling him the news, but she knew that wasn’t going to happen. She had to be honest with him, especially now. She watched as he emptied the pouch into the toilet and flushed, depositing the pouch in the garbage can. Turning back towards her, he smiled wide.
“So, ready to party, babe?” he asked.
“Actually,” Violet responded, “I don’t really feel like partying right now. If you don’t mind, I’d rather head out for a little walk. There’s...there’s something we need to talk about.” After carefully avoiding his gaze, she looked up into his eyes and squeezed his hands. “Something important.” He looked at her with eyes full of concern and nodded in response, wrapping his arm around her waist and leading her through the party crowd.
Outside the frat house, Vi and Dash headed down the sidewalk at a leisurely pace. For a while neither of them spoke, simply holding on to each other as they strolled. It wasn’t long before they came to a stop atop a footbridge in the middle of the campus park. The little bridge overlooked a stream that broke off from the lake on the edge of town. Violet looked down into the stream, watching the stars reflecting back, and took a few calming breaths. Dash wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on her shoulder, and all her calm went right out the window.
“So, Vi, what is you want to talk about?” Dash asked, placing a soft kiss just below her ear.
“Keep distracting me like that, and I may not remember,” she joked nervously. She felt his warm breath caress her neck as he laughed, and she couldn’t stop the shudder that ran through her. “Oh, Dash, I love you so much. I’d never let anything ruin what we have, you know that?” She could tell from the stiffening in his shoulders that her words had caught him off-guard, probably scaring him a little.
“I know, Vi. Neither would I. Violet, what’s going on? Has...has someone found out? About...about us?” Violet clutched his hands tightly, her fingers wrapped firmly in his, and shook her head vigorously.
“No, it’s not that. It’s just...” Taking another deep breath, Violet sought out her brother’s gaze in his reflection in the stream. “Dash, I’m pregnant. I...we’re gonna have a baby. That is, if you want it...” Dash didn’t say anything for a long time, but his face clearly displayed his shock.
“A...a baby? Are you sure?” he asked. Violet merely nodded, the tears in her eyes making it difficult to speak. Suddenly, Dash spun her around in his arms. Before she could say a word, he pulled her flush against his body and pressed his lips against her own. The kiss was passionate, filled with a surprising amount of heat and joy. For a minute Violet just stood there, her confusion leaving her stunned. Just that quickly, though, she was returning the kiss, pulling him in as deep as possible. They stayed that way for several minutes before their lungs could take no more. Breathing heavily, Violet stared into Dash’s eyes.
“So, I guess that means you want to keep it?” she asked, her nervousness still tinging her voice.
“Of course, I want the baby, Vi! I’m gonna be a daddy, WE’RE gonna be parents! I wasn’t even sure we’d be able to have kids, and now- Oh, this is fantastic!” With a boisterous laugh, Dash picked up Vi and spun her around. When he put her back down, Vi hugged him tightly, her hands gripping his shoulders. Dash thought he heard Violet laughing with him, but when he felt tears hit his shirt, he realized she was actually sobbing very softly. “Vi? Vi, babe, what’s wrong?” Still holding tightly to his shoulders, Vi shook her head from side to side before pulling back to meet his gaze.
“I’m so happy, so relieved to know that you want the baby. I just don’t know what we’re going to do, Dash.” Dash gave her a confused look, so she clarified, “What are we supposed to tell Mom and Dad?”
And just like that, reality came crashing down hard upon Dashiell Parr’s head. His face dropped as if all sense of expression was trying to melt right off his chin, his color going pale. He had never believed they might have children, so he had never thought about the consequences of such a surprise. Now, he just wished he could say something -ANYTHING- to stop the renewed flow of tears streaming down Violet’s face, and instead just pulled her close and tenderly stroked her head. As he began a gentle rocking motion, he kept stroking her hair and started murmuring over and over, “It’s OK. We’ll figure this out. Don’t worry. Everything will be alright.”
Hating himself for each word, Dash fought back his tears and just kept lying.
