Never Seen
In the G1-ish Universe..
Red Alert knew they’d been slacking off that day. He just knew he’d find them ‘on break’ when they weren’t supposed to be. They were trying to make him look bad, that’s all they were trying to do. So he purposefully changed his routine and checked the manned check post in the opposite order he normally did.
Sure enough, that freagin’ youngster, Hot Rod, was no where to be found. Rage built up within the Security Chief as he stared at the unmanned – manned security check point. When he found that mech, boy was he going to get it this time! Transforming, he roared down the road towards town by himself, for he figured that orange mech would be somewhere in there.
----
Well, well.. It looks like Red Alert isn’t paying attention anymore.. Does he think that we’ve been pushed back that far? Starscream snickered as he watched the Security Chief from afar. He’d always found that particular mech attractive. Ever since that kiss they’d shared back when the Autobot had gone slightly berserk, he hadn’t gotten the mech out of his meta.
Yes, he’d hoped he would’ve been able to completely turn Red Alert to the Decepticon side. But that damned Inferno had gotten in the way. But Starscream had observed them fight on the road; he’d been quite surprised that they hadn’t come to blows over the violence of their argument. He’d felt a warmth spread through his core; the satisfaction that if Inferno was no longer in the picture, Red Alert would get sloppy, and sure enough – that was happening.
He didn’t like not getting the mech he wanted. It irked him to no end when it occurred. He really didn’t care much if the mech wanted HIM. Starscream snickered a bit at that thought… It was actually better when the mech didn’t want him. He wasn’t into these relationships for anything as pathetic as love. He wanted the control. The control over another mech’s entire life, and the more they fought against his control, the more pleasure he derived by forcing it upon them.
Why did he find Red Alert so attractive? Oh, it was simple really. He knew the freager would be incredibly fun to break… to control.. To turn into his own.. He knew from just that one simple kiss that the Autobot had a pure and unmolested spark, never having felt the fiery heat of a Decepticon’s spark slicing into his… So much stronger than the soft blue Autobot sparks that had so far touched it. And his own fiery spark pulsated wildly at the mere thought of being thrust into Red Alert… To shred his blue spark.. Oh, he’d get the mech… and then he’d never… never.. Let him go..
Starscream actually trembled in anticipation as he spotted the perfect section of road to ambush the Security Chief. Licking his glossa over his lips, he could still taste the slightly metallic flavor of Red Alert’s glossa against his. Lowering his altitude, he timed his arrival at the ambush spot perfectly…. The car just coming down the hill.. Not even noticing him..
Hitting the mech with his null ray, Starscream pounced on him like a falcon. Reaching under the temporarily paralyzed mech’s hood, he disconnected the main cable; Locking the mech helplessly in his alt mode. Transforming swiftly, the Seeker engaged his magnets along his belly. Picking up the helpless mech, they both disappeared into the night sky…..
In the Armada Universe….
SunSpot slid agilely to the side, the mechs she had been observing never even feeling the breeze of her passing. It had become so natural to her to always have her cloak engaged, to almost exist as a ghost within the ranks. Her thrusters tread so lightly upon the floor that she didn’t even make a sound. Her meta could record every word, every expression that her subject’s made for an entire Earth week, without a single error. Without even realizing it, the shy Stealth Seeker had become the ultimate infiltration expert.
She preferred it like this. Over the years of being the Earth Mech Commander’s ‘wing mate’ she had found that her primary missions involved spying. She spied on various Earth Governments, mech posts and others. Raptor wasn’t looking for ‘dirt’ per say.. She was simply wanting to know what everyone was REALLY planning and thinking, that the Earth mechs did business with. So in a sense, SunSpot’s work directly impacted Earth mech policies, since without her input on what was really being said behind closed doors – the Earth mechs would just have to guess.
Yes, to many humans and mechs, SunSpot seemed to be merely a ghost. Rarely seen, or even thought about. And this made the young femme very happy. For now she wasn’t judged, nor expected to equal her siblings’ and cousins’ great achievements in the military. Starscream had even finally accepted the fact that she was more spy than fighter. The fact that Raptor called her ‘wing mate’ had really helped to smooth their relationship out. For at least SunSpot had found something of importance that she was good at, even with her fears.
------
“Hi SunSpot,” Raptor said. She didn’t even look up from the papers she was sorting through on her desk.
The cloaked Seeker was always amazed at how her Grandmother just knew when she had teleported into the room she was in. No other mech seemed to have this ability, yet the older femme did it with ease. Disengaging her cloak, the young femme grinned sheepishly. Sitting down in front of her Commander’s desk, she made sure to concentrate on keeping her cloaking off.
“Still having to always think about it, huh?” the black and gold femme chuckled. She glanced up at her young wing mate and winked.
SunSpot fidgeted. While she was glad that someone seemed to know her so well, and respect her for all her faults, it was still a tad disconcerting that her wing mate seemed to know every thought in her meta. “Ya, um, I’m so used to staying cloaked.. It just doesn’t feel natural not to be,” she admitted.
Raptor signed a couple of forms, then snapped the folder shut and tossed it into her outbox on the desk. Leaning back and putting her arms behind her helm, she gave her granddaughter a warm smile. “It’s kind’ve a fun game isn’t it? To wander around all sorts of ‘secure’ facilities without being noticed and not needing a key,” she joked.
Feeling a blush deepen her gray face, SunSpot nodded sheepishly. The black femme knew just how much it really bothered her for other mechs to see her. It felt like they were laughing at her back the whole time. Judging her as being unworthy of her great pedigree.. But staying cloaked and unseen, she didn’t have that feeling anymore.
Standing up, Raptor walked around her desk and patted the golden femme’s wing. “I’ll tell you a secret SunSpot, but you can’t tell anyone!” she whispered in a conspiratorial tone.
Bashfully, the young femme looked up at her. Raptor knew darn well that the only one she ever really talked with was herself. SunSpot really didn’t have any friends; she was just too painfully shy to make any. So for the older femme to say that, meant that she was trying to joke a little. “Um, I promise,” she replied softly.
Raptor bent down and whispered into her audio, “Your Grandfather gets the same creepy feeling if he takes his facemask off in public.”
SunSpot’s amber optics swirled to red in shock. Optimus Prime himself was – shy?!?! Wow! This blew her away. But he didn’t seem like it in the least. He always seemed confident and comfortable in any situation. But then maybe his mask was like her cloak? Because she was confident no matter where she went, when she knew no one could see her. “D… Do.. You think that’s where I get it from?” she asked quietly.
Her Grandmother smiled. She knew it’d help the young femme’s self image to think she had something so unusual in common with the grandfather she idolized. The two of them had become fairly close since Raptor had taken the responsibility for ‘raising and training’ SunSpot. Optimus was calm and understanding, a very good ‘father figure’ for the terribly shy Seeker. “Considering no one else shows this tendency; Yes, I’d say you must’ve gotten it from him. You are very much like him.”
A happy smile crossed the young Seeker’s face. She was ‘like’ Optimus?!? Her strange optics swirled completely to red with her intense emotion of elation. Granted, she’d never in a million Earth years be like him in combat, or be a leader – but she was his only descendant to have his shyness. Something so personal, so special, so unique – and she was the only one! Now she didn’t feel so self-conscious about it. “Thanks Grandma,” she said as she gave the older femme a big hug.
Raptor grinned. She loved to make the timid Seeker feel good emotionally, because she knew that she was the only one besides Optimus that the young femme would regularly talk to. In a sense, she was saddened by the fact that the beautiful golden femme’s internal fears kept her from developing friendships and relationships within her peer group – but at least the femme wasn’t totally alone. No matter what they were doing, her grandparents would stop everything if she showed up. In fact, SunSpot still had a room of her own in their expansive quarters. And she knew she was always welcome to teleport in.
“Well, I feel the need for speed – are you game?” the black and gold femme joked as she opened her office door. It was time for some advanced flight training for the young Seeker, and that meant that Raptor got a ‘vacation’ from the tediousness of paperwork.
SunSpot nodded silently, taking her grandmother’s offered hand, she decided that she was going to try to ignore the creepy feeling and walk through the Command Center with her cloaking disengaged this time. Gulping down her rising anxiety, she marched through the door and faced the optics of the on-duty personnel.
Beltway was coming towards them, her arms loaded with more paperwork for Raptor. A big smile crossed her face as she saw that her timid niece was walking with Raptor without her cloaking engaged. The big ground femme couldn’t help but make a lighthearted joke to her mother, knowing full well that Raptor was about to disappear for at least the next few days. “So, I see that SunSpot’s kidnapping your aft again, eh? Leaving ‘ol Aunt Belt to handle all of Earth Command?”
The golden Seeker briefly lifted her optics to her aunt, before gluing them back down on the metal floor in shyness. Timidly, she nodded to the imposing ground femme.
Chuckling, Beltway wrapped her arms around the young Seeker and gave her a quick hug. “Well make sure not to wear the old lady out this time,” she joked.
“Old lady?! I can still throw your aft over my leg and give you a spanking young sparkling!” Raptor joked back. She cuffed her taller daughter lightly on her helm.
Still chuckling about it, the two wing mates walked out of the Command Center.
--------
Sitting on the top of the snow-covered mountain, SunSpot braced herself against the buffeting winds. Looking up at the dark sky, she was amazed at the sheer beauty of the dancing ribbons of light of the borealis. “It’s beautiful Grandma,” she whispered in wonder, almost not wanting to destroy the magic of the moment by talking.
Next to her, Raptor shifted slightly, the sound of her carbon-fiber fuselage scrapping lightly against the exposed rocks, muffled by the wind. “Yes it is SunSpot. I think it’s the most beautiful sight in the entire Galaxy,” she agreed. Glancing at her granddaughter, she watched those strange optics swirl in amber and crimson colors as the youngster stared up at the sky in awe. All of Starscream’s and Jaguar’s offspring had optics like this. Perhaps it was the combination of Autobot, Human and Decepticon sparks within them? Perhaps, one day, all Transformers would have the same? They were the true future, the true combining of all the different mech sparks..
“You told me this was the source of everything, what do you mean?” SunSpot asked. She shifted her gaze to look at her grandmother. The white of the snowcapped mountains in the background, framed her like an angel.
Raptor smiled, and then nodded for the three minicons perched on her intakes to merge. Lifting the blazing Star Saber, she carefully sliced open the front of her port knee.
SunSpot’s optics widened in horror as she did so. Her optics swirled to the crimson of strong emotion. She had no earthly idea what her wing mate was doing by slicing her very skin open…
A multi-colored, dancing light emanated from within Raptor’s split skin. Calmly, she reached in and pulled one of the power crystals out. Holding the gem in the flat of her hand, she watched the dancing ribbons of power swirl through it, matching the ribbons of Earth’s power in the sky above.
“What is that?” SunSpot murmured in amazement as Raptor handed the glowing crystal to her. She rubbed her fingers over its faceted façade, sensing the sheer power that coursed within.
“That’s what my God and Primus created us Earth mechs for. This is the power source behind the matrix, SunSpot. This is why we are Primus’s Guardians. We Earth Seekers can produce these; we are the only ones who can.” Her musical voice echoed through the still mountains, as if the very Earth itself was telling the tale. Putting her hand on SunSpot’s thruster, she looked deep into her granddaughter’s swirling optics. “You wonder why we don’t search for our daughters and sisters that disappear in teleport? It is because we know that Primus has called them to another dimension that is in need. He shows them the path, guides their wings.”
SunSpot shuddered. One of her biggest fears was to be lost in teleport. That’s why she still flew on a line attached to her wing mate when they did those long-distance teleports to Cybertron. She knew her grandmother would never get lost. She was an immortal Soul Flyer who could fly through both dimensions and time itself if she so chose. She had always wondered why Raptor never went after those who were lost. Even though the Matron cried in sorrow, she never flew to find them, Even though she probably could eventually track them down if she tried.
Raptor felt the young femme shudder, so she wrapped her arm around her waist. “This is why you cannot fear being lost, SunSpot, for its Primus’ will.”
“B..But.. I couldn’t battle Unicron like you… I’m afraid..” SunSpot’s optics welled up with tears as she stared into the beauty of the powerful gem.
“I know, honey, I know..” Raptor said gently. “But it’s not our fighting prowlness that makes us so valuable to Primus. Even if you don’t fight, you do his will.”
“But how?” she rubbed the glowing gem with her thumb; the warmth it radiated warmed her.
“Because each of us Earth Seeker femmes can reproduce with that dimension’s mechs, producing and training future generations of Guardians; we can all produce these gems. And with our flight, we fill them with Earth’s very power. That way the Prime of that dimension can stop Unicron’s growth,” the older femme rubbed her fingers against the trembling youngster’s fuselage. She prayed that Primus would never take this one, but she had to teach her, make her know what to do if that occurred.
“So we serve him by taking a bond mate there? We don’t have to fight?” SunSpot said quietly. She’d never even kissed a mech here, for she was far too shy. And now her grandmother was telling her that that was exactly what she would have to do if Primus called her to a different dimension? She blushed just thinking about it. But at least she wouldn’t have to try to be the warrior she was not. That would be up to that dimension’s Prime.
“I know it’s hard to think about SunSpot, and I hope you are never called upon. But just remember, it’s your choice who you choose. You are a good enough spy to live for years without being detected. So you can study both the Autobot and Decepticon camps, and decide who you want to join and who you want to take as bond mate. Primus will not rush you. But you can never tell the Cybertronians of our worth. Only your daughters must be taught this, they are the future.” Raptor looked into SunSpot’s optics, her very spark terrified that this timid daughter would ever be called. But just as she had taught her daughters, and they had in turn taught her granddaughters – she must now teach this unusual granddaughter whom she’d had taken as her wing mate.
SunSpot sighed, praying as fervently as Raptor that she’d never be chosen. But glad that she now knew what Primus would expect of her in the terrible possibility that she was chosen. “So how do we grow these within us, grandma?” she asked softly as she handed the glowing gem back to her.
