It was well past midnight when Bumblebee saw Prowl again, he was greeted with a small nod of acknowledgement as they passed in the hall. The smaller mech frowned and turned to face him. “Is that the end of playful Prowl?”
The motorbike narrowed his optics and turned to face Bumblebee, “Do I have to be playful all the time? Can’t I just be me?”
Bumblebee chewed his lip thoughtfully. “I didn’t mean you had to change………I just, I mean…” he took a deep unneeded breath, a habit he picked up from Sari. “I really enjoyed today, I want to do it again…with you I mean. Will you do it again sometime?”
Prowl couldn’t understand where the cocky, brazen Bumblebee had gone and where this bad doppelganger had come from. He wasn’t sure how to treat this new version; he had never seen his friend look so unsure of himself. “Just because something isn’t said doesn’t mean it won’t happen.”
Bumblebee smiled softly, “that’s good.”
Prowl’s lips turned into a tight smile, “Can I help you with anything else?”
The yellow mech shook his head.
“Then I’ll see you in the morning. Good night Bumblebee.” Prowl turned and started down the dark hall again.
Bumblebee followed him timidly for a few steps then stopped. “Where are you going?”
Prowl turned to face him again and pointed up to the roof. “I’m going up to sit on the roof, there’s a full moon out tonight and everything looks so beautiful bathed in its glow.”
The yellow mech played his thumbs together and lowered his optics. “You make it sound so nice, would you mind if I came up with you?” His voice betrayed his emotions, he didn’t want to be told to go away and leave Prowl to his own space.
The motorbike smiled down at Bumblebee. “I’d like that.”
Bumblebee’s face lit up and he followed Prowl into the cool night air. The silver moon hung high in the sky and covered everything in its soft light. Prowl sat cross legged on the roof and looked up at the sky. The moon and the stars always fascinated him, even back on Cybertron, although the constellations had changed their splendour never faded.
The yellow mech sat next to him and swung his legs from the side, lost in his own train of thought. Prowl glanced at him a few times in the silent minutes that passed, getting worried when 10 had passed and the little bot still said nothing. “Are you ok?”
Bumblebee nodded slowly, his optics not leaving the sky. “Do you think we can see Cybertron from here?”
The taller mech pondered the question, it was one he had asked himself countless times before and he still didn’t know the answer. Chances were that Cybertron was just too far away to see, but there was still that slim hope it was there smiling down on them. “I don’t have any idea, but I know it’s up there somewhere and that makes me feel better.”
“Would you go home if you had the chance?”
Another question he had asked himself a million times. “I’ve pondered over that a lot… but when it comes down to it I believe I would stay here. I never felt very at home on Cybertron and I feel like our team is more like a family. Plus I don’t think I could ever leave Sari.” Leaning back on his hands Prowl looked at Bumblebee. “What would you do?”
Shrugging almost unnoticeably, Bumblebee sighed. “I have no idea, I love being here but I miss silly little things like the axel grease you could get from that run down little shop or the oil that can restart all your systems after one can.”
Prowl smiled and put a reassuring hand on Bumblebee’s shoulder, “It’s ok to miss things, I miss things to but what I have here makes up for what I miss.”
A comfortable silence fell between them and for once in his life Bumblebee was happy being quiet. Unknowingly the smaller bot had moved gradually closer and closer to his friend, he was close enough now so that their bodies were touching and brushing against each other when one moved. Prowl raised an optic but said nothing, instead he covered Bumblebee’s hand with his own in a gesture to show him he wasn’t alone.
“Do you ever get lonely Prowl? You spend most of your time alone in your room or up a tree. Don’t you ever just want some company?”
Prowl shook his head, “I’ve always been this way, I spent so long on my own that I learned my own company was the best.”
Looking up at the long elegant face, Bumblebee observed the faint trace of a smile ghosting the fine lips. Somewhere deep inside his body a circuit board was working overtime, wondering what those lips would feel like if he just leant up and covered them with his own. Would they be Soft? Hard? Cold? Warm? Would they have a distinctive flavour that was all Prowl?
He pushed the thoughts down quickly when he realised he was staring and lowered his optics to glare at the ground a few stories below them. He didn’t know why he was having these thoughts, if he found the circuit that was causing him all the problems he would rip it out. Although his spark was telling him that it wouldn’t solve the problem.
The problem needed to be dealt with head-on, a concept Bumblebee was familiar with. He idled for a moment to try and decide if he has turned his logic chip off or if it had malfunctioned, then straddled Prowl with a speed that rivalled the ninja’s own. Before he could change his mind he placed his hands on the glossy black shoulders and pressed his lips against Prowl’s.
Prowl froze in shock and tried to push Bumblebee away only to find his circuits tingling at the electricity whizzing around them. It was like nothing he had ever experienced before, he had kissed other bots but nothing had made his body feel like it was about to explode into a fantastic colour show.
Bumblebee had no idea what to do now his lips were pressed against Prowl’s. He had never kissed anyone before and had only seen it done a few times on some on the DVD’s Sari had brought over, all he knew is that it felt good and he wanted more. He moaned softly as he pressed his chest against the larger form beneath him, sparks igniting his fine frame as they touched.
Prowl was the first to pull away, gently pushing the younger bot off of him and shivering at the electricity coursing through his body. He stood up slowly to try and cool his overheating body down and put some space between him and Bumblebee before he lost his head and jumped him. He had no idea why that had just happened or what had possessed the younger male to do it. He didn’t like not having answers to his questions but he couldn’t just walk away without saying anything…. Could he?
Bumblebee searched his friends face frantically for any sign that could help him determine what Prowl was feeling but found nothing. Prowl was the master at not showing his emotions until he had thought them through completely.
Looking down at the smaller mech Prowl tried to dig through was he was feeling to ask a question, only one word passed his lips, ‘why?’
Now there was a simple question with a terribly complicated answer. “I just really wanted to.” The younger mech answered in barely more than a whisper.
“Why me? Of all our team I would think I’m the one you would least want.”
Bumblebee smiled, “Oh please, you can’t possibly believe I would want Ratchet more than you.” He tried to make light of the situation, not that it mattered, Prowl didn’t seem angry with him.
The elder bot chuckled quietly, “point taken.”
“Besides it was you who told me opposites attract right?”
Prowl nodded and sat back down on the roof. “I did.”
“And we’re opposites right?”
“You never answered my question, why me?” Prowl asked, looking over at Bumblebee.
Bumblebee shrugged, “I don’t know, I like you that’s all.” His face plate burned in embarrassment and he looked up at the stars to try and hide it. “Plus it helps that you are a damn fine looking mech.”
It was time for Prowl to blush although he managed to hide it well. How was he supposed to answer that? He placed his hand over Bumblebees and leaned over to kiss his cheek lightly, showing there was no bad feelings and hoping that Bumblebee got the hint that he wanted it to. “I need some time to recharge, we’ll talk tomorrow ok?”
The smaller mech nodded, “OK.” He knew he needed to give Prowl time to come to terms with what he just done and all he could hope was that he hadn’t ruined anything. “You’re not mad at me are you?”
Shaking his head and smiling softly he answered, “No not at all, I just need some time to think things through.”
“I know.”
“Good night Bumblebee.” Prowl said as he jumped from the roof, landing on the floor silently, leaving Bumblebee lost in his thoughts.
