It was a very subdued pair of witches Dr. Shreever ushered into his office. He closed the door behind them and bade them take a seat on the couch. He pulled a chair around to sit across from them and sat down.
"This has been quite a stressful day for all of us. Now I've never had a partner as close to me as a sister, so I can only imagine how hard this has all been for the two of you, but believe me when I tell you that all this has taken its toll on me as well. I've come to care for you girls almost as though you were my own daughters, and it grieves me to see you both so shaken by all of this. We have the remainder of Darcy's session and all of Stormy's session in which to talk, so please feel free to say whatever is on your minds."
Icy folded her arms and turned her head aside.
"I don't have anything I want to talk about."
Darcy turned to face her.
"Well I do. Something's been bugging me since this whole thing started. I'd just arrived here when your call for help came in. Our two escorts were standing right outside. You and Stormy were all alone in the meadow, isolated from everyone else, and as far as I know there's no means of communicating with anyone on the outside unless they come in. How did you manage to contact the doc for help?"
Dr. Shreever grinned in amusement.
"Oh ho! So you haven't seen fit to tell her, eh? Didn't trust her with that information?"
Icy turned her head to glare at Shreever.
"No! That's not it at all. I just kind of ... forgot, that's all. I meant to tell her but it just never came up."
Darcy raised one eyebrow and lowered the other in a quizzical frown.
"Tell me what Icy? Just what is it you 'forgot' to tell me?"
Icy reached for her left sleeve and flipped it back, revealing the small blue crystal pinned inside it. Darcy leaned forward to peer at it in surprise.
"That's one of those comm crystals all the staff here use. You managed to get your hands on one?"
She turned to glance at Dr. Shreever in confusion.
"And you knew about it, and you let her keep it?"
Just then the light of comprehension dawned in her eyes.
"Wait, you didn't just know about it, you gave it to her, didn't you? That's how she got it! But isn't that against regulations or something?"
Dr. Shreever nodded gravely.
"A rather serious breech of regulations I'm afraid, but one I would make again without hesitation. After the way Stormy kept finding ways to get hurt I was starting to worry about what could happen if she became seriously injured and there was no way for either of you to summon the help she needed in time. That's why I gave Icy that crystal. Considering the timing though I think perhaps I should have given one to you as well. Icy was barely back from her session when Stormy did what she did. If she had done it just one hour earlier, it would have happened while Icy was not in the meadow and there would have been no way for you to have summoned help until she got back."
Darcy wrapped her arms around herself and shivered.
"I know. The whole time I was in that waiting room I couldn't stop thinking about all sorts of stuff like that. What if Stormy doesn't pull through this? What if I'd been the one there with her? I couldn't have done anything to help her. But how did Icy call for help? What if Icy hadn't been there? How had Stormy managed to hurt herself so bad anyway? Could we have done something to prevent it? I just felt so helpless and I didn't understand any of it."
Icy laid a hand on Darcy's shoulder. Darcy glanced at her. Icy wore a look of distressed sympathy that said more than any words she could have spoken, even if she had been able to think of words to say. Darcy gave her a still pained but grateful smile, then leaned her head against Icy's shoulder and closed her eyes. Icy wrapped her arm around Darcy's shoulders, wishing they could have done this under better circumstances. Dr. Shreever waited a respectful moment before starting in again.
"Times like these tend to strip away the emotional barriers we usually protect ourselves with, allowing our true selves to emerge, however briefly. Icy, is there anything you would like to share with Darcy right now?"
Icy glared at him warningly. She knew just what he was hinting at, and it was something she really didn't want to discuss.
"Don't push it Doc."
Dr. Shreever held up his hands defensively and shook his head, a guileless look on his face.
"I wouldn't dream of it. I'm merely suggesting if there is anything you would like to say to Darcy that you ordinarily would never dare you might never have a better opportunity, but that is completely up to you."
Icy scowled at him stubbornly for a moment, but when she noticed Darcy looking at her inquisitively she relented with a sigh.
"Alright, fine. Darcy, there's something I need to tell you, something I've been hiding from you for a long time. See the thing is, I think that I'm ... a lesbian."
Darcy stared at her blankly for a moment, making Icy wonder what sort of shocked reactions must be running through her head. She was shocked, therefore, when Darcy began snickering and then burst out laughing.
"Ha HAAA ha ha ha! What? That's it? That's the big secret? That you're a lesbian?"
Icy looked insulted at Darcy's reaction.
"What, you think this is funny? This is all some big joke to you, is that it?"
Darcy wiped tears of mirth from her eyes and shook her head.
"Sorry Icy. It's just, all that build-up and then that's it? I mean, it's not exactly like this is news to me."
Icy felt a cold chill of apprehension run through her.
"Wait, you mean you knew?"
Darcy shook her head and grinned.
"Of course I knew. Hello? Enchantress, remember? It's what I do. It's an enchantress' job to pick up on other people's sexual desires. Enchantresses don't just seduce guys you know. Sometimes the job calls for a lesbian seduction, so it's important to be able to pick up on that vibe. Mom taught me long ago to always watch for the telltale signs of a person's true sexual orientation, even in situations where there's no chance anything could happen, because you never know when that kind of information could come in handy. So yeah, I've known about your lesbian tendencies for a couple of years now."
Darcy's words echoed and rebounded in Icy's mind. 'A couple of years now.' 'Watch for the signs.' 'No chance anything could happen.' She felt like a fool. Of course Darcy would know! She had been such an idiot to think she could hide her feelings from Darcy, or that she stood even a ghost of a chance with her. Still, her stubborn streak refused to let her back down without verifying the worst.
"Okay then. If you can read my desires so well then tell me this: who is it I wanna screw with the most?"
Darcy folded her arms and leaned back against the couch with a self-confident little smirk.
"That's an easy one. You want Bloom."
Icy's eyes went wide with surprise.
"Bloom?!? You've got to be kidding me! Why would I lust after that sickeningly self-righteous pixie?"
Darcy leaned forward smugly and tapped her fingernail lightly against Icy's chest.
"Because you, Icy, are a vengeful, dominating, sadistic bitch. What better way to get revenge on someone you hate than to make her your sex slave, make her service your every deviant desire and never get any sexual satisfaction herself? You know I'm right. Stella used to be your number one bitch, but ever since Bloom beat you in that last battle you haven't been able to stop thinking about her. You just want to rip her clothes off, put her in a dog collar, freeze her legs to the floor and make her lick your slit 'til you cum your brains out, then just leave her like that."
To say Icy was surprised would be an understatement. She was shocked that Darcy could so easily pick up on her lesbian desires yet so completely misread their true target. She was startled that Darcy thought she could have any kind of feelings for that goodie-good Bloom other than hatred and loathing. She was absolutely stunned though to discover just how easily she could picture the exact scene Darcy had just described, and just how horny it made her. She had never considered the possibility of using sex for revenge, but now that the idea had been planted in her mind she found it delightfully twisted. She closed her eyes and rubbed her hand along her chest.
"Mmm... Now there's a compelling scene. I can see it now. I'd have Bloom's little boyfriend, Prince Sky, chained to the wall with his dork hanging out, and if Bloom tried to resist me in any way I'd threaten to freeze it right off of him."
Dr. Shreever shook his head with a rueful grin.
"And to think you girls have actually been trying all this time to convince me that you both find me so irresistible. What a tragic blow to my fragile male ego."
Darcy grinned at him teasingly.
"Don't sweat it too much Doc. You've still got me. Besides, Icy isn't totally 100% gay. I'd rate her about a six on the Kinsey scale."
Shreever's eyes twinkled with mischief.
"Ah! So I'm not totally without hope! I just find myself facing an uphill battle for Icy's affections."
Icy glanced between Darcy and Dr. Shreever in confusion.
"Okay. So are you guys gonna tell me what this Kinsey scale is or what? I mean, what's up with calling me a six? I'd say I was at least a nine."
Dr. Shreever grinned and chuckled at her.
"It's not that kind of scale Icy. The Kinsey scale is a way of indicating a person's degree of homosexuality."
Darcy nodded as she chimed in.
"See, one indicates a person who is totally straight and seven means someone's totally gay. Four, which falls right in the middle of the scale, means a person is evenly bisexual, liking both sexes equally."
Dr. Shreever nodded in turn.
"Quite. So by assigning you a rating of six, Darcy was telling me that you are mostly lesbian with just a little bit of attraction to men."
Icy looked like she'd just bitten a lemon.
"I see. So you guys think you've got me all figured out. And what about you Darcy? Where do you fall on this scale?"
Darcy brushed back her hair on one side.
"You have to ask? I'm a three. That means I prefer guys but I'm still pretty strongly attracted to girls too."
Icy could feel her heard pounding in her chest as she processed what Darcy had just said. A three! So she'd have to work harder than a guy to get into Darcy's pants but she could still do it. Of course there were still pesky little problems like being sister witches/coven partners, but that was just another hurdle to be overcome. Nothing insurmountable. At least now she had some real hope that she might actually stand a chance with the enchantress. Not wanting to give her emotions a chance to give her away, she turned her attention to Dr. Shreever next.
"And what about you? What's your rating?"
Dr. Shreever grinned at her in amusement.
"I am a one, heterosexual through and through."
Icy smirked at him.
"How predictable."
Darcy propped her elbow on her knee and her chin on her hand with a grin of her own.
"Not to mention boring. Come on Doc. You and I both know that most people are at least a little bi-curious even if they aren't willing to own up to it. So how 'bout it? Not even a little bit?"
Dr. Shreever tilted his head back thoughtfully.
"Well... I suppose I do find those pretty boys known as bishounen in anime and manga just a little bit attractive, in so far as they remind me of women of course."
Darcy's grin widened triumphantly as she exchanged a glance with Icy.
"Ha! I knew it! One point five."
Dr. Shreever shook his head and chuckled.
"Very well. If you insist. So what about your sister Stormy then? As an expert in the field, how would you rate her?"
Icy gave him a disapproving frown.
"Hey! Stormy's not even here to defend herself. If she were here for us to pick on to her face that'd be different, but don't you think it's a little rude to gossip about one of your patients behind her back while she's convalescing?"
Dr. Shreever held up his hands defensively.
"I was merely curious to hear Darcy's professional opinion on the matter. It isn't as though I'd be drawing clinical conclusions about her based on hearsay. Besides, she does have you here to defend her honor."
Icy crossed her arms and grumped.
"Don't make me sound like some kind of hero-wannabe. I'm just sticking up for my sister."
The psychologist gave her an understanding smile.
"Of course. Given what she's been through today, what we've all been through really, I can hardly blame you for feeling a little protective of her right now."
Icy glowered at him but said nothing. With a small grin, Shreever turned to Darcy.
"So what do you think?"
Darcy gave him a thoughtful look.
"My own personal opinion, I'd have to rate her a zero."
Dr. Shreever returned her thoughtful look with interest.
"Very interesting."
Icy glanced between the two of them in confusion once more.
"Hey wait, I thought you guys said this scale runs from one to seven. How can someone be a zero? Are you saying she's straighter than straight? What's that even mean?"
Darcy shook her head.
"A zero means she doesn't even register on the scale. As far as I've been able to tell she doesn't have any sexual or romantic interest in either sex. If she does she keeps it so repressed that I can't pick up any sign of it."
Icy smirked at that.
"Now that sounds like Stormy. The only thing she gets off on is beating up pixies and trashing stuff."
Dr. Shreever shook his head, speaking in a mock-rueful voice.
"Well, there go my dreams of a romantic foursome."
He gave Icy a playful smirk.
"I don't suppose you'd care to make it a threesome?"
Icy leaned back against the couch casually.
"Yeah, I'll have to get back to you on that one. After that scene in the locker room earlier I'm not quite sure I'm ready to let you get that close to me again just yet."
Dr. Shreever looked briefly startled, then lowered his gaze guiltily.
"Icy I assure you, I never meant for things to go that far."
Now it was Darcy's turn to look back and forth between the other two in confusion.
"What's going on here? What's all this about a locker room?"
Icy gave her sister a partial smile.
"Oh yeah, that's right. I haven't had a chance to tell you about that yet. Before all this crap with Stormy started I think I mentioned that Thaddeus here took me fencing. What I didn't get the chance to tell you is what happened after that. The doc here gave me quite a beating during our match, leaving me pretty stiff and sore. I guess I took too long getting showered and changed because the next thing I know there he is at the door to the girls' locker room asking me if I'm decent. He comes in and starts giving me a healing massage. I ask him if he's gonna faint on me like the last time he healed me and the next thing I know he's draining the life out of me."
Darcy's eyes went wide with shock, then she turned a fierce glare on the psychologist.
"Mom always warned me never to turn my back on a warlock. Guess she must have been speaking from personal experience, or do you always steal your patients' life force as part of their treatment?"
Dr. Shreever looked positively horrified as he held up his hands defensively.
"Darcy I assure you, I never took anything from your mother that wasn't freely offered!"
Darcy kept her glare fixed on him as she swept her arm toward Icy.
"And what about Icy? Was that 'freely offered' too?"
Dr. Shreever closed his eyes and hung his head in shame, turning away from the young enchantress' accusing eyes.
"No, it wasn't. I allowed my former lust for power to override my better judgment, and for that I can never make amends."
Icy rolled here eyes at that.
"Oh please. Not this again."
Shreever opened his eyes and looked up at her in confusion.
"I beg your pardon?"
Icy leaned forward, gesturing with one outstretched hand.
"Exactly! You used to be a proud and mighty warlock, striking fear into all those who opposed you, but now look at you, cringing and begging for forgiveness just for taking a little energy. It's positively sickening."
Darcy had dialed her glare back down to merely disapproving.
"Yeah, really. The whole contrition thing just doesn't suit you at all. How do you ever expect to 'reform' us when you make it look so pathetic?"
Dr. Shreever stroked at his goatee absently as he considered their assessment.
"Am I really that bad?"
Icy nodded confirmation.
"Bigtime. It's like you lose all self-respect when you get like that. You get busted on for making one little mistake and you turn into a giant wimp. Why would we ever want to be like that?"
Dr. Shreever nodded slowly as he thought it over, his voice growing in conviction as he spoke.
"You're right. You know, you're absolutely right! There's no reason for me to be mentally and verbally prostrating myself every time I stumble or backslide. Dr. Foler has gone and made a coward of me. Well no more! No longer will I debase myself for every little blunder. I am quite capable of learning from my mistakes without turning myself into someone's doormat."
He chuckled at the irony of the situation.
"It's funny. I'm supposed to be the one showing you girls how to be better people, yet here you both are teaching me a lesson in self-respect."
Darcy smirked at him.
"Hey, no problem. That's what we're here for. We'll bill you for our time."
Shreever threw back his head and laughed.
"HA HA ha ha ha ha! Come here you two! Give us a hug!"
Both girls protested loudly how unnecessary that was as Dr. Shreever gathered them up in his arms for a group hug. Icy glanced at Darcy behind Shreever's back and exchanged a smirk with her. Obviously they still had a way to go but they were definitely making progress. Before too long they'd have Dr. Shreever back on the side of evil and then freedom would be theirs!
