Kim awoke, she snuggled up against Ron they had talked about old times until well after two in the morning. She lay there in bed beside him her head on his chest her arm draped over him.“Morning K was wondering how long I was gonna have to wait to get up, sorta need the bathroom.” “So why didn’t you wake me up?” “Uh because you were all snuggled up there, and I know-how crabby you can be in the morning if you get woken up without getting at least 8 hours.”
“Ron that’s sweet, but you go on, I think this morning I am gonna do breakfast.” “Uh hun, are you sure about that, the last time you tried to do more than just cereal, you ended up with burnt Toast, runny eggs, and the juicer exploded.” “Ron I have so been practicing I am gonna make breakfast.” “Ok, but call me when the kitchen explodes.”
Kim slipped from the bed, wrapped a robe around herself and started downstairs.”Today I am going to conquer breakfast!” She entered the battle zone primed to do battle her weapon of choice the frying pan.”Today I am going for scrambled eggs, toast and home fries with melted cheddar cheese and she glared at the toaster and stove you two aren’t going to stop me.”
She opened the fridge and picked up the egg carton, snagged the butter out of the butter slot and placed them on the counter, she placed the pan on the stove and turned the heat under it to medium. She opened the butter dish and added a pat to the pan, the eggs came next, carefully she shelled them into the pan checking to make sure no shells got dropped into them.
She remembered the lessons Ron had been trying to instill in her since forever and began to work the eggs around the pan, she watched them turn slowly into a yellow fluffy mass of deliciousness. Eggs looked completely on par, she reached in the freezer and pulled out the frozen home fry bag added four handsful to the pan and started to work them around the pan, being careful not to burn them she again stepped to the fridge, and grabbed the bag of shredded cheddar cheese,just before the home fries were finished she added the cheese and watched it melt into the fried potatoes.
Mission two accomplished, she glared at the hated toaster.”You better not burn my toast you fiendish machine, I’m watching you.” She slotted four pieces of toast into the toaster and watched it, her eyes never leaving it all the way till it popped up, amazed she pulled the toast out and it was a golden brown done to perfection, she couldn’t believe it she scrambled to slather butter on the slices and added them to the two plates.
“Ron breakfast is ready!” She called upstairs.”Are you sure, last time you said that I came down to juice on the ceiling and runny mess on a plate.” “Ron!” “Okay ok, I’m coming.” Ron entered the kitchen expecting the worst, but his eyes beheld perfection on a plate.”K you did it! Babe, you beat breakfast booyah!” Kim blushed when her husband slipped up and gave her a warm morning kiss. “K you rock, I told you you could do it.”
“Yeah well so not the drama after all, but I swear the stove and toaster hate me.” “It’s all in the Prep and careful timing look you did a fine job, think you’re ready to try meal planning again?” “Ok, so what’s the assignment oh great kitchen wizard?” “Your mission if you chose to accept it is to plan and execute a whole dinner by yourself if you chose to accept this mission I will be expecting dinner by 5 PM.” They sat at the breakfast bar and ate the delicious meal Kim had accomplished after so many tries.
“Challenge accepted!” Ron glanced at the clock on the wall it was just after 7 AM.” Ah K the movers are coming at 8 we better get dressed get the little man up get him something to eat, And get over to the new house so we can direct the movers where we want our stuff to go, I Can do that, if you wanna head over to Fletchers and get the stuff for tonight?”
“Are you sure, the little man likes his cereal just a certain way you know, at least I get that right since it’s all he likes for breakfast.” “I think I can take care of a bowl of cereal hun, you go get dressed and grab the dinner stuff, and come meet us at the new house, I’ll have Wade send a car over to pick us up ok?”
Kim nodded and ran upstairs to throw some clothes on.”Mommy can I has breakfast now?” Kim stopped and smiled at her little boy, his hair was all tossled, and he was rubbing his eyes.“Daddy is downstairs little man, mommy has to go out and get groceries for when we move to our new house today ok.” “Can I go to mommy?” “You wanna go with mommy instead of over to the new house with daddy?” “Yep.” “Ok Reuben let mommy get dressed, I will take you with me now go down and get some cereal, ok daddy’s down there making it for you, I’ll be right down.”
Ron was perplexed his son sat in his chair glaring at him refusing to eat the cereal in front of him.”What’s wrong little man, don’t you want cereal, daddy can make you something else if you don’t want cereal?” “That’s not how mommy makes it, wheres my sliced nanas?” Ron looked to where they usually kept the banana’s and grimaced, he had forgotten to add a crucial ingredient And the little man was refusing to eat it without.”K you sabotaged me on purpose didn’t you?”He yelled up the stairs just as Kim came back into the kitchen.
“Told you he liked his cereal a certain way, what the great kitchen wizard couldn’t figure it out?”Ron gave her the stink eye.”You sabotaged me on purpose didn’t you, here you go little man daddy fixed it ok?” Reuben dove in happily chomping the pieces of ripe banana, like a ferocious monster, each time he scooped one up. “Anyhow quick change of mission parameters, the little man wants to go with me shopping.” “K the last time he went shopping with you I distinctly remember you saying he had the stickiest fingers in the entire world, and you were sure that he was trying to test mommies patients to the extream, are you sure that’s such a good idea?”
“Well he wants to go, and I did promise I would take him with me next time we went shopping.” “Ok but don’t say I didn’t warn you, hey little man, you be good with mommy out shopping ok, don’t be grabby.” “Reuben looked up from his bowl and nodded at his daddy.”I be a good boy I promise.” “Ok little man you finish up and daddy will help you get dressed while mommy gets The car ready to go ok.”
Kim headed out and started the car, the engine came to life with a subdued roar, it felt so good to have a proper vehicle again Mr. Webster popped his head over the fence and whistled.”Hey, neighbor nice wheels what happened to the old Honda you were driving?” “It went to the great big junkyard in the sky, and this is a company car, were moving for work today it’s been a pleasure being neighbors, but I have to run.”
“Hear that Deloris, the Stoppables are moving, I told you they were just between jobs looks like you were wrong about them being enemy spies from somewhere in Europe, sorry to hear your leaving, my wife has such a vivid imagination.” “No big I really need to get going lot’s to do, chow Mr. Webster.”
Kim ran back inside and scooped Reuben up.” So I see somebody put his Robo-bots shirt on today are you feeling all giant robot then?” “Yep, zoom me to the car mommy?” “Prepare for take-off, this is mommy control, prepare for launch!” Reuben giggled as Kim made wooshing noises all the way to the car.”Alright prepare for landing, and let’s buckle you up.” Kim smiled as Reuben put his feet down and sat to be buckled in.”Mission complished.” “Alright little man hold on mommy needs to tell daddy something real quick then we’ll get going ok.”
Kim grabbed the Kimmunicator out of her purse and dialed Ron.”Hey, I just remembered we need to turn the utilities off, do you want me to take care of that while I’m out or do you wanna handle it?” “I can take care of it, hey while your out I need razors, just used the last fresh one to scrape my face clean.” “Roger that razors check, see you in a bit.” “Ok little man mission shopping is a go!”
In the backseat, Reuben began making robot noises as she headed to Fletcher’s supermarket. She pulled into a space pretty close to the store, and grabbed a cart from the return aisle.”Ok Out you get, so what do we do when were in the store?” “We ask before touching stuff.” “Right And what happens if you accomplish the mission?” “Uh, can I get’s a new Robo-bot mommy?” “Sure sweety, now let’s get you buckled in the cart, mommy has to think about what were gonna have for dinner at the new house ok.”
Reuben always enjoyed going shopping, he loved seeing all the stuff and remembered if he behaved he could get a treat of some kind.”Mommy can we has bar-b-que for dinner like at uncle Wades’ house?” Kim did a double-take, and she gave her son a quick kiss on the head. “We sure can, ok I can do this, so you wanna help mommy plan for dinner?” “Yes peese.” Kim grinned and turned down the meat section aisle.
“Ok, Reuben what kind of meat do you want for dinner?” “Can we has chicken, I liked chicken at uncle Wades’ house it was yummy.” Kim went through the poultry section and picked up a package of chicken breasts and tossed them in the cart. “Ok now we have to have a veggie to How about corn on the cob?” “Bleh, I no likes corns on the cob.” “Alright no corn, how about We have baked potatoes, you liked baked potatoes when you were at granny Possibles house remember?” “Yep, taters are good.” Kim smiled and tooled over to the produce area, grabbing three potatoes from the bakers’ section she placed them in a bag and dropped them in the cart.
“Alrighty, now for a side dish, how about macaroni salad?” Reuben made a rude noise and stuck out his tongue.”Ok got it no macaroni salad, how about baked beans just like the ones you had at uncle Wade’s house the other day?” “Yum yes, peese.” Kim nodded and grabbed a quart container from the to-go section and dropped it in with the rest.”Well, mommy is all done getting dinner I just need to stop over and get daddy some razors.
She glanced through the razors and finally found Ron’s brand.”Wow, here’s a coupon for two dollars off yes please.” Kim ripped off the coupon and put it in her wallet.”Mommy just got a good deal, so since you’ve been a good boy would you like a cookie from the bakery?” Reuben nodded he really liked cookies.” Can I have one of your cookies my little boy has been so well behaved?” “Sure thing one-sec mam, here you go Mr. one chocolate chip cookie.” “What Do we say when you get something?” “Thank you.” “Good boy, hey ah Ralph is it how much is the apple pie down there in the case?” “It’s $6.99 they are on special all week can I get one for you?” “Please and thank you.” The kind clerk handed her the pie and she placed it in the cart with the rest of her purchases.” Now then let’s get through check out and mommy will take you over to the Toy barn ok?” Reuben smiled and nodded his head.
Packing the bags in the trunk she had Reuben back in his car seat and a short drive later they pulled up to the Toy barn, “This is your favorite place isn’t it little man?” “Yep.” “Ok let’s head inside and see if we can find you something you like sound good?” Reuben loved coming here It had been a good while since his mommy had taken him here, he always got to see the funny clown and got to ride on the mechanical pony ride.
“Good morning gentlemen, come on in if you need any help call me I’ll be outside in the yard In my lawn chair, soaking up some of these nice warm rays.” “Mr. Stoppable were here to pack your house up you don’t need to give us a play by play of where you’re going to be, in fact, my team always deals best with loading, if the client is not at the location. “No my friend Angela said boys were gross, but well after that bully Jack Peterson tossed gum in my hair Mikey popped him right in the nose, that guy Jack is so mean to everyone at school, And well Angela says I have cooties now, can I get cooties from kissing boys?” “Well I have done some serious research on cooties, and it depends on the kind of cooties you have, did it feel bad when you kissed this Mikey Thompson boy or did it feel good?”
“Well I sorta felt kinda good, he made that mean old Jack Peterson go away and leave me alone, but uh the next day he, he gave me this.” Hana reached into her hoodie pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. She handed it to Ron, and he opened it to read some serious words.”Do you wanna be my girlfriend check yes or no.” “So I don’t know what to do, I really like Mikey he’s so sweet, what do I say, Ron, I feel so weird when he looks at me in class.”
“Does your stomach get all flip-floppy?” Hana nodded. “Hmm sounds like you have a real bad case of cooties though from my research, you have type two cooties it means the only way your gonna be able to treat them is by being someone’s girlfriend,looks like Mikey Thompson must have been doing some cootie research, he’s certainly offered to treat your cooties for you.”
“Uh Ron, it gets worse, he invited me to his birthday party on Friday after school, and I wanna go but I don’t know if mom is gonna be ok with me going to a boy’s house, and well can you ask her for me?” “Nope, no can do squirt, but I can go with you to ask mom if you can go to this party.” “Yes please!” “Alrighty then, let’s do this, squirt.”
Hana ran to the door and dashed inside.”Mom, I gotta ask you something, and Ron’s here to ah help me ask ok.” “Hana, I was just making some lunch, what’s this all about then?” “ MIKEY THOMPSON INVITED ME TO HIS BIRTHDAY PARTY AFTER SCHOOL ON FRIDAY CAN I PLEASE GO?” “Calm down Hana, you want to go to a boy's birthday party on Friday afternoon Is that right?”
Hana nodded looking down at the floor.”Well, I don’t know, what do you think Ron?” “Ron nodded to his mom.”We definitely have a class K emergency mom, It seems Hana has encountered those type two cooties I used to have, and it’s already gone to stage two.” “Oh my who would have thought my little Hana would be affected by those dreadful cooties, but I seem to remember your case first showed up when you first met Kim.”
“Yep sure was, I am still in treatment to this day.” Hana stared at her older brother.”Am I gonna die?” “Nah you might get a bad case of broken heart, but that can be healed by a soft kiss or two.” Hana’s face turned bright red.”See told you it was stage two already mom.” “Well it looks like drastic measures will have to be taken, Ron can you take Hana shopping I’m pretty sure if I took her she’d just have a bad relapse, Hana go get my purse on the hall side table.”
Hana ran to the hall table and ran back with her mother’s purse.”Now I am trusting you with moms credit card, have the store call me when you ring out and I will authorize the transactions, I want you to get the boy a nice gift, and you need a new party dress too.” Her mom handed her Her credit card,” Have fun sweety, come back soon mom will have lunch waiting for you when you get home.”
“Ok squirt I have to call your auntie Kim and tell her I’m taking you shopping where do you wanna go?” Hana climbed in Ron’s car and buckled up.”Well, can we go to the new mall uptown?” “Sure, just let me call your auntie first ok.” “What’s the sitch Ron,I’m heading to the new house with the little man, did you call the utilities yet?” “Nah got sorta sidetracked, Hana has a bad case of type two cooties, yeah a real bad case sounds like she even has the kissing disorder.”
“Your serious, little Hana kissing boys? So I can take care of the utilities, you done with stuff or what?” “Nope my mom asked me to take Hana shopping and I said I would.” “Ok give me a shout when you’re done I am gonna grab some lunch for me and the little man on the way home, meet you in a bit love.”
Ron tooled up to the new Middleton mall and parked at the side entrance, Hana jumped out of the car as soon as they stopped, and ran around to grab Ron’s hand.”You ok squirt?” “Uh kinda A little scared never had to get anything for a boy, Ron can you help me find the right thing, please?” “Well I have been outta touch for a while but I’m sure I could probably find something a boy would like,let’s go in.”
So maybe we should get your new dress first huh squirt?” “Uh, moms always took me to smarty mart to clothes shop never shopped by myself before, where should we go?” “Well your Auntie Kim always likes to shop at Club Banana, and they have one on the second floor we could head into their Kid Banana section and see if you liked anything.”
“Well hello welcome to Club Banana how can we assist you today sir?” “Ah, my little sister here would like to see some of your Kid Banana clothing line shes looking for a new dress for an upcoming party.” “Well our newest tween scene line might have something you might enjoy Mis. Please step this way.” Hana dragged Ron behind the helpful clerk.” You ok squirt?” “I’m a little nervous Ron, can you help me pick something out please?” “Ok ok, quit dragging me I’ll help.”
“Here are several of our sassy summer line creations.” Hana looked at the dresses and screwed up her nose.”They all kinda look the same, and why do they all have pockets on the front, ugh I don’t like any of this stuff can we go somewhere else Ron, please?” “I’m sorry it seems my sister wants to try somewhere else, are there any other clothing shops on this floor?” “I’m sorry We couldn’t help you Mis, but you might try the Little Mis shop up on the other end of the concourse.”
