DP: Ch 17
“We still need to tell your parents Danny,” Sam said with trepidation at the prospects of breaking the nuptial new to his folks. She turned to her mother and smiled warmly. “And Danny and I would still like to have a wedding ceremony later on, if only for you and Maddie.”
“Oh, Danny’s mother and I have already started playing a big wedding for sometime in the future,” Mrs. Pamela Manson said with assurance. “We’ve talked about it often but haven’t decided on what religion it should be under.”
“Well,” Sam thought about the prospects and came up with an idea, “since Danny and I are the only two Half Human-Half Ghosts in the whole wide world…”
“Except for my cousin Daniel and Vlad,” Danny interrupted.
“Yeah, and of course, Vlad Masters and your cousin,” Sam ceded wryly to her new husband. “But since we’re the only two adults who can get married to another high breed, maybe Danny and Sammy Phantom should have a ceremony for each religion in the world and then have just a small ceremony for Danny and me.”
“Do you know how many ceremonies you’re talking about?” Pamela said, going in to her high society, party planner mode. “That could take a whole year to plan and set up.”
“I’m sure you’re up to the task, mom,” Sam snickered, knowing her mother would relish the challenge, “with a little help from Maddie of course.”
“Of course Dear,” Pamela Manson cooed and got busy, hustling around the kitchen getting her day planner out and making notes on a pad of paper. “Why don’t you two go over to the Fenton’s and break the news to them.” She was a whirl wind of activity as the two teen Ghosts flew out of the room and off to Danny’s house.
“How should we break the news to my parents?” Danny wondered as he and Sammy Phantom flew the short distance to his house.
“I think we should just barge in like we are and confront them,” Sammy said running her hands down the sides of her spandex jumpsuit. “Your mom already knows your secret so it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to her that I went all Phantom also. Then we can tell them about us getting married.”
“Wait,” Danny said as he stopped in midair and hovered just above his house. “Mom and dad have gone to Uncle Jake and Aunt Jill’s house for a few days. They’re taking care of Cousin June, remember?”
Sam came to a halt and flew back over to her new husband of only a few hours. “Well then, we’ll just have to fly to your Uncle Jake’s house and tell them the news there.”
“I suppose we could,” Danny said as he took Sam’s hand and led her off in another direction. “But I don’t think we should barge in on them all Phantom like. June is scared of ghosts and she’d probably freak at our appearance.”
“We should also let Jazz know what we’re doing, too,” Sam said as she brought out her cell phone and speed dialed a number. “Just so she doesn’t worry about us when we don‘t come home later.”
One hour, and quite a few fun flying maneuvers later, the Phantom couple landed in front of Jake Fenton’s house. “Your mom and dad should be here,” Sam stated as she changed from Sammy Phantom to her normal, human counterpart. “The lights are on and visiting hours are over at the hospital.”
“Good news for us,” Danny said in an unexcited, noncommittal voice as he too changed from his Phantom self to his human self.
“Danny,” Sam cooed and turned to Danny, trying to calm his trepidations by stroking his cheek with a hand, “we don’t have to tell your parents everything. If you want, we could only tell them about our wedding. I’m sure that will be a big enough shock to them.”
“No, no,” Danny waved her suggestion off after a moments thought. “I think it’d be better to get everything out in the open. Telling dad about my Ghost Powers and them both about your new Ghostly self may soften the blow about our getting married. It helped a bit when we told everything to your parents all at once.”
“It may blow up in our faces too,” the Ghostly Goth Girl of Casper High said sarcastically. “But, we’ve come this far together so we might as well go all the way.” She clasped one of his hands with both of hers as he rang the doorbell.
“Danny? Sam?” Maddie Fenton questioned when she opened the door and saw the two teens standing there. “What are you two doing here? Is something wrong with Jazz or the house?”
“No mom,” Danny laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head with his free hand. “Sam and I want to tell you and dad a few things since I turned eighteen today. You know, clear the air and all that.”
“You want to tell your father about your little secret?” Maddie begged in astonishment. She pondered the situation for a brief moment before she smiled brightly. “I guess it is time for your father to be brought on board.”
“Danny!” The couple heard the scream and pounding feet coming toward them from the other room. Danny was almost bowled over by a young brunette-haired girl dressed in a long nightshirt who threw herself into him.
“Hi’ya, June-Bug,” Danny chirped as he let go of Sam’s hand and wrapped both of his arms around the 10 year old to pick her up in his arms. “How come you’re not in bed yet?”
“Uncle Jack’s been showing me the improvements he’s made to the Fenton Family Ghost Assault Vehicle,” June perked and turned her attention to the other person at the front door. “And who is this lady with you?”
“This lady is my wi…” Danny caught himself and quickly corrected. “…She’s my friend Sam Manson.”
Maddie, being as intelligent and quick witted as she was, and noticing the gold rings on their hands, caught Danny’s little faux pas and swiftly reassessed the situation. “It appears as if you have some other news you’d like to tell me and Uncle Jack. Why don’t you two come in and we’ll talk about it.”
Maddie turned and led the way into the living room followed by Sam and Danny with June still in his arms. They all sat down as Jack Fenton came in from the kitchen eating a sandwich. “Danny? Sam? Is there some ghost problems in Amity Park? Are we needed back home to fight those nasty ghosts?”
“It’s nothing like that, dear,” Maddie reassured her husband and patted the seat next to her on the sofa. “Danny just wants to tell us about a few interesting, developments that have happened today. Don’t you Danny?”
“Yeah,” Danny chuckled nervously and set his Cousin June on the arm of the huge recliner he and Sam decided to sit in together. “But it is ghost related and maybe June shouldn’t hear about it.” He tickled the young girl as he said, “You know you’re sorta afraid of ghosts and I don’t want you to get too scared before you go to bed. I don‘t want you to have any nightmares tonight.”
“That okay Danny,” the young girl laughed at his tickle assault, swatting away his hands. “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts no more. Not since that Ghost Boy has been working to get rid of all the bad ghosts in the world.”
“You know about Danny Phantom?” Sam queried her new cousin by marriage as she picked up the girl and sat her on her lap.
“Yep,” June practically beamed a smile a mile wide. “The Ghost Boy even helped out at my school once when a Lunch Lady Ghost tried to change our lunch menu. He’s my hero.”
“Inviso-Bill has been doing some admirable work keeping the bad ghosts away,” Jack ceded with a nod. “I guess he may be one of the good guys.”
“Then,” Danny tentatively said as he stood up and moved over to his parents sitting on the sofa, “you wouldn’t be too surprised to find out his name is Danny Phantom and he’s actually half human?”
“That would explain a lot about him,” Jack said in deep thought scratching his head. “But how would something like that have happened? It would have to have come about from some sort of freak accident with a Ghost Portal or something.”
“That’s exactly how it happened,” Maddie said smugly as she sat back and let Danny take the lead. “Go ahead Daniel. Tell your father all about your little freak accident.”
“Accident?” Jack queried, unsure what everyone was talking about. “What accident? Are you alright son?”
“You never found out why the Ghost Portal didn’t work the first time you plugged it in four years ago,” Danny stated as he nervously paced back and forth in front of his parents. “You were disappointed that it didn’t work and just left it at that. But you had forgotten to turn off the controls and just left the lab. I was a little curious so I donned a Haz Mat suit and went inside to find out why it didn’t work.”
“You went into the machine while the controls were still turned on?” Jack said in amazement. “You could’ve been kill, son.”
“Yeah, well…” Danny nervously laughed and rubbed the back of his head anxiously.
“But I placed the on switch inside the Portal!” Jack yelled and slapped his head in realization.
“I found that out the hard way,” Danny chuckled. “I accidentally found the on switch and…” Danny stopped his nervous pacing in front of his parents and raised his hands above his head. A shimmering white ring crackled above him and quickly descended his body to transform Danny Fenton into Danny Phantom.
“The Ghost Boy!” June squealed in delight, leapt from Sam’s lap and swiftly wrapped her arms around Danny Phantom. “You’re fantastic! You’re my hero!”
“It’s always great to meet one of my fans,” Danny laughed and rubbed the top of his cousin’s head with a gloved hand.
“This happened four years ago?” Jack said as he stood and walked over to Danny and June. “And you’ve kept this secret from your mother and me all this time?”
“I’ve known all along Jack,” Maddie stated as she got up from the sofa and went over to them. “I knew you’d be more interested in tearing the ghost apart molecule by molecule than finding out what happened to your son so I let you be until you came around to understanding there are good ghosts and bad ones.”
“I guess you’re right,” Jack said in slight dejection over his failure in discovering this secret and of only recently realizing there are good ghosts as well as the usual bad ones. He placed a proud fatherly hand on Danny‘s shoulder. “I’ve only recently come to understand that there are a few good ghosts in the world.”
“And Danny Phantom is one of the bestest ghosts around,” June enthused as she crushed her cousin in a heroic embrace.
“That he is,” Maddie said as she peeled the tiny tot away from her hero and took June in her arms before she sat down on the sofa again. “But I think Sam and Danny have other news to tell us.”
“Yeah,” Sam nervously laughed since it was her turn to out herself as a half ghost. “Since I’ve been fighting the bad ghosts by Danny’s side for so long I thought he should have more help in his battles.” She stood up and walked over next to Danny Phantom while Jack took a seat next to his wife and niece. “And since it’s Danny’s birthday, I thought today would be the perfect day to do it.” The shimmering, crackling white ring appeared at her feet and swiftly ascended her body turning Sam Manson into Sammy Phantom. “I set the controls and went inside the machine after you left this morning.”
“Sammy,” Maddie cooed and got up to wrap the Ghost Girl in a warm motherly hug. “That is such a wonderful gift to give to Danny.” She leaned in further and whispered in Sammy’s ear, “And I already know about this. I watched it happen on my Fenton Cell Phone.”
“You’re half Ghost?” June excited yelp and bounced on the couch. “Can I become a half Ghost too? Do you have the same powers as Danny?”
“You’re too young to become a half Ghost,” Jack said to his niece, patting her on her head. “But I’d like to know if you have the same powers as Danny does, too.”
Sam held out a hand lit up with her spectral glow. “Well we don’t know if I have all of the same powers yet, but I do have quite a few powers that Danny does.”
Maddie leaned out of the hug she was giving her daughter-in-law and smirked, “But that’s not the only news you two want to give us, is it?”
“No mom,” Sam nervously laughed and latched onto Danny hand for support. “You guessed it. Danny and I just got married.”
“You two got married today?” Jack queried in bewilderment. “How? Sam’s still underage.”
“You married us dad,” Danny laughed at his father’s naiveté and forgetfulness. “You signed the marriage certificate down in the lab while we were having our little talk yesterday. Sam and I had to talk to the Justice of the Peace for a few minutes since you weren‘t there to confirm your part in the ceremony.”
“But my Nana vowed for my parent’s signature and everything else went smoothly after that,” Sam added with a broad, beaming smile.
“And I bet you two have been making out like bunnies ever since,” Maddie said with a smirk. “I hope you’ve been using the box of…” she glanced down to her niece sitting next to her on the sofa, “…things I gave you Danny.”
“Well…” both Danny and Sam ruefully uttered in unison as the both rubbed the backs of their heads sheepishly.
“June,” Maddie said as she patted the girl’s hands in her lap, “why don’t you go and brush your teeth while the adults talk for a minute.”
“Okay Auntie Maddie,” the young girl agreed and skipped out of the room, off to the bathroom.
“Does it matter if we’ve been using the condoms you gave Danny?” Sam begged in confusion. “I’m on the pill so we really don’t need them.”
“With Danny’s Ghost Powers,” Maddie frowned and shook her head in deep thought, “the pills might be rendered useless. And now that you both have Ghost Powers…”
“Oh my God,” Sam muttered in realization with a hand shooting up to cover her mouth. “I didn’t even think about the effects my Ghost Powers had on any of the medication I might be taking!”
“And we’ve been making out like…” Danny murmured in understanding.
“Like bunny rabbits?” Maddie finished her son’s sentence. “That’s why I gave you the box of condoms, Danny. I knew they were the only real line of defense against pregnancy with your Ghost Powers.” Maddie sighed in resignation. “Well, I guess the damage may have already been done but we won’t find out for sure for six weeks. In the meantime, you two better use the condoms just in case you aren‘t pregnant.”
“We will, mom,” Sam said taking Danny hand in hers and using the name Maddie wanted her to use. “I’m not looking forward to a early pregnancy in our marriage.”
“I know I’m not ready to be a father,” Danny muttered to himself under his breath.
“I might be a grandfather?” Jack perked up at the news. “That’d be super!”
“Jack!” Maddie said with great distain at her husband’s unfounded, in her opinion, enthusiasm.
“Anyway,” Sam said taking out her cell phone and handed it to Maddie. “My mom still agrees that there should be another wedding ceremony for all of you to attend. She’s planning it now, and a few other things too.”
“I’d like to be in on that planning,” Maddie said with a smug smile as she accepted the cell phone, pulled up and speed dialed Pamela’s number.
“I knew you would… mom,” Sam giggled and watched the fireworks coming from the two dueling mothers on the phone. The two women may be friends now but Sam knew each and every mother always thought they had a good idea as to what their child would want for their wedding and sometimes those opinions didn‘t exactly jibe.
