While plans were being made and discussed on Airlandis, something similar was going on in Warnado.
Peak paced in his room, trying to make sure his plan was solid. Either way this went, he was going to end up giving in a little to Dread, but the main thing was ….well, just how he was going to give in. If he was careful and all went well, then hopefully it wouldn't be much but if it didn't....
The teen placed a hand on the dagger strapped to his thigh, nervously licking his suddenly dry lips. He knew exactly what Dread Wing wanted from him, but if Peak played his cards right then the resultant outcome could be in the human's favor. He just had to....give in a little......
As he thought on that, something hot trailed down Peak's face. Startled, he raised his other hand to touch it, pulling back his fingers to reveal the clear droplet of a tear. To his shame, seeing that first one sparked others to follow, until Peak's vision blurred and it began to get hard to breath. Muffling a cry of frustration, he sat on his bed and buried his face in his hands, trying to stop himself.
It wasn't that bad! He was being fed good food and given clean water and even a weapon to defend himself with though Dread hadn't hurt him (yet) during this current captivity. He was also allowed to object to things and to ask things of Dread and....and.....
And he wanted to be back home, to have an argument with Z'neth again, to joke with Summit, to get annoyed with Apex over something small and stupid. Peak wanted to fly with Wing Storm, to be free in the sky once more. He wanted to have another conversation with his father, even if sometimes the topics went well over Peak's head. He wanted to see Dram and Zarkan and Amod and Nora too, as well as his few friends from school and among the younger dragonators.
In short, he missed Airlandis and the life he had there. Sniffling, Peak rubbed the heels of his palms against his eyes, trying to clear them. Putting his hands on the mattress, he took in a few deep breaths to try and get himself under control. He was doing this for the good of the city!
…..Wasn't he?
Now that he thought about it, he had no idea if Airlandis was faring any better while he was here. For all Peak knew, Dread had only given him lip service and was still attacking any dragonators who came to Old Earth for amber runs.
Letting himself get angry, Peak firmed his resolve and scrubbed at his face with a sleeve, trying to make himself presentable. It wouldn't do to show Dread any weakness, not with what he was about to ask. Taking another deep breath to steady himself, Peak made himself get up and strode to the cloth door of his room.
Pushing it aside, he saw Dread Wing at the mutant's desk, reading over some document. Peak cleared his throat and said, “Dread.”
He immediately regretted it. Instead of coming out of his throat steadily, the mutant's name had sounded more like a croak, almost like a plea instead of an acknowledgment. It had an immediate effect though, as Dread Wing looked up at him as soon as he'd spoken and Peak was treated to the sight of Dread actually looking startled.
The mutant took one look at him and rose from his seat, asking, “Peak, are you alright?”
Surprised that he'd actually ask that, Peak almost faltered but managed to hold strong, trying to force his voice to stay even and firm as he said, “I want to know something and I also have a request.”
His voice nearly cracked towards the end and Peak spared a second to wish he'd thought of having a drink of water before he'd left his room. Still, Dread was completely focused on him, which was what Peak had wanted, unnerving as it was. Dread nodded, his face slowly going calm again as he replied, “Alright, tell me and I'll see if I can't fulfill it.”
Bringing back his anger and holding onto it for strength, Peak said, “I want proof that Airlandis has been doing well since I've been here. Actual proof, not something like a fabricated report.”
Dread frowned, “You do realize that I'd would have to let you go to the city to verify that, yes?”
Peak nodded, “I do, but I want to know! I've heard nothing from Airlandis since I've been here and I want to make sure I haven't wasted my time here!”
The mutant's frown deepened, “But what assurance do I have that you'd return? You have only your word to give me and that is no insurance.”
Peak frowned himself, crossing his arms before his chest, “I still want to know.”
Dread Wing seemed to be getting annoyed with him but surprisingly offered an alternative, “What if I found another way to get you that information, one that won't have you leaving Warnado?”
Peak blinked and snapped, “I'm not going to let you capture a dragonator just to reassure me! Besides, what's to keep you from threatening them with torture to tell me that the city is doing well?!”
Dread sighed, “There is still another way Peak, though I will admit it will be a gamble. If we actually go through with it, will you be agreeable to it?”
The teenager hesitated, asking, “And what way would that be?”
The red mutant clearly didn't want to admit it as he said, “Your siblings have been coming here to ask about you, as I knew they would. If I let you stand in on one such meeting and get them to talk about the condition of the city, will that be sufficient?”
Peak blinked again, his mouth opening in surprise. Dread hadn't lied when he'd said it'd be a gamble. There was the risk of his siblings somehow recognizing Peak or even Peak himself going to them to go home. But.....
The teen made himself answer, “Alright, that'll do.”
Dread nodded, “And if that's all, I do have work to get back to.”
Peak shook his head, hating himself as he felt a blush come to his face, “No....I still have my request....”
The royal looked interested, raising an eye ridge as he asked, “Oh? That wasn't it?”
The teenager shook his head again, hating himself even further as he dropped his gaze to the floor, “N-no....”
Dread prompted him to speak, “Then what is your request? Like I said earlier, tell me and I'll see if I can't grant it.”
Peak felt his shoulders tensing and gripped his arms tighter as he bit out, “I want a friend.”
Unseen by Peak, Dread blinked, “What?”
The human gritted his teeth and repeated himself, “I want a friend!”
The mutant was silent for a minute before he said, “Would a pet do instead?”
Not trusting his voice, Peak nodded in agreement. Dread smiled a little as he asked, “And what do I get in return?”
Peak went red but forced himself to squeak out, “I....I'll let you choose...that....”
The mutant stepped close to his human, gently taking Peak's chin to make him look up and meet Dread's gaze. Ensuring he had the teen's full attention, Dread said, “Then I want us to do manual intercourse.”
The confused look on the teen's face was priceless, “What?”
Dread smiled and asked, “So, do we have a deal or no? You said I could choose and so I have.”
Peak gritted his teeth again and bit out, “Yes, we have a deal.”
It wasn't until after he said it that he realized he had no idea what Dread had meant by manual intercourse. But the mutant certainly looked pleased, especially as he leaned in closer, “Now, shall we seal the deal with a kiss?”
Peak went red again and jerked his chin free from Dread's grip, gaining a small cut as he did so from one of Dread's talons, “No!”
To his surprise, Dread Wing stepped back, “Alright, perhaps some other time then.”
He pointed to the bathroom, “There should be some bandages in the cabinet next to the sink.”
Peak mumbled something before heading to the bathroom to take care of his tiny injury. Oh dragondom, what had he gotten himself into now?
