Chapter 16.

“Ready, Danny ?”

“Main generator operational and connected…Auxiliary power standing by… Initiating ectoplasm flood…”.

“Good… Tucker, how’s your status ?”

“Command script uploaded… Testing… All scripts are working within designed parameter”

“Good, good… Okay, Danny, put the Ecto Filtrator on and let’s kicks this thing online”.

“Right…”

“Ready… Connecting power to the ghost portal… Power connected… Switching it on in three… Two… One, hit it, Ember !”

“Here goes nothing !”

-WHIRRRRR !!... CRACK !!... CRACKLE !!...BZZZzzzz…!!-

“YES !!. SUCCESS !!” Ember jumped in delight as his new ghost portal finally worked.

“WOO HOO !! Alright !” Tucker cried happily.

“Finally…” Danny sighed and plops down into the floor, looking visibly exhausted. He, Ember and Tucker had worked for three days and two nights almost without stopping to complete the portal that almost cost Ember his life.

“It won’t be long before we can go to the ghost zone and take the overlord down…” Ember stood against his portal with a sense of great pride.

Danny reached for the red crystal in his pocket and summoned the Grim Reaper. Apparently, Grim was not as bad as his reputation. Danny found that Grim was quite friendly and always help him whenever needed. On the other side, Grim also placed a high respect for Danny. To him, Danny is about the only mortal that actually respects him.

“Hm, congratulation, McLain” Grim patted Ember on the shoulder.

“Thanks, Grim…” Ember still felt uneasy around the Grim Reaper.

“Geez… Grim Reaper” Tucker shook his head in disbelief. “What’s next, Cerberus ?”.

“DON’T mention that name to me !” Suddenly Grim shuddered violently. He had a rather bad experience with the guardian of the Underworld.

“I thought he’s your pet…” Tucker blinked.

“Yes he is… But I still find it difficult to control him. The only person who can truly control Cerberus was actually a mortal named Mandy…”.

“That sadistic little girl you told us before ?” Danny asked, turning his attention to Grim.

“Yes”.

“Well, you’re welcomed to visit us here anytime when you’re feeling fed up with them”.

“Much appreciated, Daniel”.

“So… When are you guys going to take that overlord down ?” Tucker asked as he looked at Ember, Danny and Grim.

“We need lots of preparation... But I think we can try going into the ghost zone in three days” Said Ember.

“Three days ?” Danny frowned. He wasn’t expected that the major fight would happen so soon.

“Yes, three days. At this rate, we have reached our maximum power. Delaying will only make things worse” Ember replied. “We’ll have lots of helps from my friends though, so don’t worry”.

Grim poked his head into the ghost zone out of curiosity. “Whoa !... This is definitely bad” He exclaimed as he pull his head back.

“It is indeed” Ember sighed. He reached for a piece of paper on the table. It contained the list of the ghosts that could be recruited as potential ally. “Danny, do you think we should ask Vlad to come along ?”.

“Vlad ?... After what he did to you ?”.

“Be that as it may, Danny… Vlad is the strongest Halfa between the three of us”.

“I’d rather ask for someone friendlier, like my cousin”.

“Your cousin ?”.

“You know her, Tuck, Danielle…”.

“Oh, her… Yea, I know her…”

“Dani Phantom… Good idea, but do you know where she is ?” Ember looked at Danny.

“Nope” Danny sighed while shrugging.

“My thought exactly”.

“Listen, I just don’t trust Vlad, okay… The three of us plus all of your friends should be enough” Said Danny, insisting on his opinion.

“Alright… I’ll try to gather as much allies as possible in two days…” Ember turned to see the ghost portal. “On the third day, we’re going to battle…” He balled his hand into a fist. Ember was determined to finish the overlord regime once and for all.

Two days later.

Ember’s apartment is now full of ghosts that were willing to help him to take the overlord down. However, only the select few that would fight alongside him, after all, Ember did not want to increase the number of Freakshow’s victims count.

“Greetings comrade…” Ember began the briefing.

“Greetings Ember…” The ghosts replied.

“Uh… Hello there…” Danny appeared from the ceiling to attend the briefing. He dragged Sam and Tucker along.

“Hi…” The other ghosts replied quickly. They still held certain grudges against him. After all, Danny is the official ghost hunter of Amityville.

“Johnny 13, Kitty, Technus, Youngblood” Ember beckoned toward the ghosts. “Danny, Tucker, Sam” He beckoned at the other non ghosts. “Today we gathered to form our attack plan against the overlord. The basic plan would be going trough my ghost portal and go straight into Freakshow’s throne room” Ember paused. “To do that, we must use your ship, Youngblood”.

“Aye, my ship will be ready. I’ll have it moored next to the exit of your ghost portal in the ghost zone” The young ghost captain replied.

“Since we’re short of manpower, we have to go in with automated weapon system, Technus…” Ember nodded toward Technus, signaling him to take the briefing over.

“Right… I’ve rigged the cannons in Youngblood’s ship to an automated system so his ship could run with minimum crew. However, we should not overwork the system or it could fail catastrophically and destroy Youngblood’s ship. Back to you, Ember”.

“That takes care of the offensive and defensive part of the travel to Freakshow’s throne room. The rest of us will remain on guard at the deck of the ship. There’s high possibility that Freakshow’s guards will board the ship to kill us” Ember looked at the briefing participants. Surprisingly, no one gasped or winced. They were well aware of the risk.

“And… I also wish to introduce our final element of surprise. However, I beg you NOT to attack him…” Ember shifted his eyes toward Danny. “Danny, if you please”.

“Right… “ Danny wasted no time in summoning the Grim Reaper.

“GRIM REAPER !!” All of the ghosts stood up suddenly and assume fighting stances. As Ember predicted long time ago, all of the ghosts that existed because of unnatural death would hate Grim.

“Hey, I’m just doing my job, man” Grim sighed.

Every ghost sat down again without taking their eyes off Grim. Ember heaved a deep sigh and continued the briefing. “Grim here will join us on the assault, hopefully, his power will give us a major advantage”.

“If I may add, Ember ?” Danny raised his hand and stands up.

“Sure”.

“Thank you” Danny cleared his throat. “Grim could hold the key to this battle. According to the information we’ve received so far, we knew that Freakshow is very powerful. We will try our best to defeat him, but if all failed, then Grim will be the only one strong enough to stand against Freakshow”.

Johnny stands up. “As much as I like Grim Reaper’s assistance in this matter, I sincerely hope that Freakshow would be defeated by one of us. After all, whoever defeats Freakshow will be appointed as the new ruler of the ghost zone for as long as he or she exists as ghost”.

“Thank you for bringing that issue forward, Johnny and I appreciate your concern”.

“If that what you’re worried about then it’s simple” Grim paused. “I can help you weaken Freakshow then I’ll leave him to you guys to finish him off. I do must point out here that I cannot kill a ghost permanently because that’s beyond my duty”.

“What ?. You never tell us that !” Danny’s bulged in surprise.

“I forgot to tell you that before, it seems…”.

“Well, now we know” Ember said, preventing more arguments from Grim and Danny. “Are there any questions so far ?”.

No one raised his or her hand.

“In that case, this meeting is over… We will proceed to the ghost zone tomorrow at 09:00 hours sharp”.
