Chapter 15: Hana.
(Middleton Cemetery - July 28th, 2008)
Kim Possible closed her eyes in an attempt to fight off the impending flow of tears. The gentle hand on her shoulder and soft voice of her father were not helping matters.
“It's time to go Kimmie-Cub.”
She heard the cracking in her voice as she managed to choke out a reply. “You guys go on ahead. I... I just need another second.”
The hand gave a gentle squeeze before going away. She heard her mother and father moving toward the car. Though they no longer stood beside her, their grief hung in the air around her like a dark cloud. It took an intense effort of will to force her eyes open again. Through those red rimmed eyes, she looked at the two headstones nestled in the ground before her. With the exception of the names carved on their gleaming marble surface, they were identical in every way.
She addressed the markers in a familiar note of frustration. “Crossed wires? Dammit Tweebs! You were better than that!”
As she turned and walked away from the graves of her little brothers, tears flowed freely down her cheeks. Had they survived the explosion in their school’s lab, they would have been fifteen years old today.

Sensei unfolded his legs and stood. Time enough had passed for the deed to be done. He crossed the floor of the shrine to a door hidden behind the Monkey alter. Beyond it, was the place where all the most powerful of the Mystical Monkey artifacts in his keeping were stored. Power seemed to infuse the very air as he passed by shelves and chests full of idols, figurines, medallions and other Monkey related paraphernalia.
Reaching up to a high shelf, he grasped two artifacts. A medallion with the image of a monkey scratching it's head in a puzzled manner engraved on it's shiny surface. The other was a small wooden carving of three monkeys sitting in a row. On it, the first simian figure had it's hands clasped over it's eyes. The second held is hands over it's ears. The third, it's mouth. The likeness was well known to the world, and had been reproduced many times. None, other than himself, knew of the existence of this original. Nor did anyone else know of it's true purpose and power.
He slipped the carving and amulet into a hidden pocket sewn within the folds of his right sleeve.

Inside his levitation bubble, Sensei glided through the air toward the snow covered ledge. He could see the creature he summoned crouching on the ledge in front of the cave opening. He touched down on the edge of the precipice.
The scaly black monstrosity rose to it's full height, towering over the elderly ninja. It's leathery wings unfurled and beat at the chill wind. From it's fang filled mouth, it spoke in a surprisingly soft voice. “You deceived me human. The one you sent was not willing or compliant. Her protests were not just for form, some cultural quirk, as you led me to believe. Had I realized this before the act was completed, I would have voided our contract. For what you tricked me into doing, you must pay.”
Sensei looked up at the demonic creature. He felt no fear. It's cruel looking horns, it's sharp claws, not even it's gigantic hooves could harm him. He was the one with the power here. It was his summons that brought the creature into this world. His dismissal would just as easily sent it back to where it came from. All that mattered to him was that it had fulfilled it's purpose.
“Begone! Return to the demon realm where you belong.”
A sound, like distant wind chimes, filled the air. Behind the demon, a black tear in the fabric of reality formed. It's jagged outline pulsed with magical power.
The demon howled in frustrated anger as it felt itself pulled through the portal to it's home. It faded from sight, but it's voice echoed off the mountain sides.
“Know fear, teller of lies. One day I shall again be summoned to this earthly realm. On that day, you will feel my vengeance!”
The sound of chimes disappeared. Sensei was alone on the ledge. He walked to the entrance of the cave. The demon's threat disturbed him not at all. The ancient magic used to perform such a summoning was known to very few. Most thought it nothing but myth. The chances of someone summoning the creature again within his lifetime were next to none.
Just inside the cave, he saw her. Yori lay unconscious on the rocky ground. Her clothing hung in tatters from her teenage body. The signs of her recent violation were obvious.
Sensei pulled out the artifacts and knelt down beside the young girl. The Forgetful Monkey amulet went around her neck. It's power was such that after only a few minutes, it would cause her to forget the last few hours of her life. After enough time passed, he removed it. Next he touched the wooden carving to her forehead and muttered the incantation which activated it's power. Now her mind would be kept in the dark until the spell was removed. He placed the magical items back in his robe and picked the impregnated girl up in his arms.

Sensei examined the girl's body as he sat aside the healing amulet. He smiled. There was no sign upon her of what her body endured over the last months. She was completely restored to her former self. He picked up the wooden monkey carving and touched it to her forehead. An incantation reversed it's magic.
He only just managed to hide the artifacts in his robe, when her eyes fluttered open.
Yori looked around the room. She was laying in a bed in the small clinic area of the school. Her eyes found, and focused on, the old man's smiling face. “Sensei?”
“It is alright child. You are safe.”
“Why am I here Sensei?” Her face took on the same puzzled look displayed on the face of the monkey amulet that took her memory. “Has something happened to me?”
Sensei knew this was the point where the magic would be put to the test. “Tell me what you remember?”
Yori frowned. “The last thing I remember, I was mixing a sleeping draught in class...”
He nodded sagely. Inside he was smiling. The timing was perfect. It was from that very class he'd called her to send her on her task. “That is when it happened then. As far as I can determine, one of your classmates accidentally bumping your table. It caused your work to spill and cover you. The amount was far beyond any a ninja would ever use to incapacitate a foe. I know this may come as a shock to you, but for many months now you have been in a coma.”
Her eyes widened as she digested this news. The sincerity in his voice left no doubt in her mind about what happened to her. Her mind filled with questions, but his finger touched her lips as she started to ask.
“In good time. You must rest now.”
He got up from her bedside and walked toward the door. He paused and turned to her. “One thing. A bit of good news for you to think upon. I believe that you will very soon be ready to take your final exam and become a full fledged ninja.”

Sensei cradled the baby in his arms as he stepped off the airplane. As soon as he made all the necessary arraignments, she would be in a safe place. Guarded by none other than the Mystical Monkey Master himself. There she would stay until the time came for her to serve her purpose in life. It was tempting for him to keep her at the school longer, but the risk was too great. Not to her, but to her mother.
Yori believed the child to be an orphan. Thought she was left on their doorstep in the night. She treated the baby as if she were her little sister. Sensei knew this could not continue. There were few powers greater than magic. One such was love. If Yori remained close to her child, her love might negate the power of the artifacts. He could ill afford for that to happen. To remember what he had done to her would surely damage her. This was a better way. He had done enough evil as it was in the name of the greater good. Yes, it was better for all concerned that Yori never know.
