(Prototypes pt 8)
**To Feel Human – pt 4** written by StSE, universe G1
“So, you all packed up TC?” Sam asked as he tossed his own bag into the back of the dually.
TC checked his bag again, making sure that his waxing supplies, laptop and video games for it – were all safely tucked inside. But his Nintendo DS caught his optic. “Do I HAVE to ride?” he asked.
“We’re going through a pretty strong line of storms; Sharon would kick our asses if we let you fly. So yes, you HAVE to ride!” Daniel told him in a firm tone.
TC sighed in resignation. Grabbing the Nintendo DS, he zipped up his bag and slammed down the hard protective cover that was hinged behind the cab of the truck. “You sure my stuff won’t get wet?” he asked as he gave the hard top a critical look.
“Geese, quit whining already and get in the fucking truck!!” Speed snorted as he stuck his head out of one of the rear windows.
Daniel and Sam exchanged a glance as the blue clone grudgingly climbed in his seat. “You sure this was a good idea, bringing them BOTH?” Sam asked Daniel.
“They do get along, once they settle down. It’ll give US some alone time,” Daniel whispered as he climbed in the front passenger seat.
Sam arched his eyebrow as he glanced towards the rear seats, where grumbling and childish insults going back and forth could still be heard. “Shit, just like brothers aren’t they?” he commented.
Daniel chuckled and nodded. “Why have kids, when you can just buy two of them?” he quipped.
Nodding his agreement, the gray haired man started the dually and pulled out of their long driveway. The back country hunting trip had begun, and the two droids just had no idea…..
----
TC frowned as he looked at the bundle that Daniel had handed him. “What’s this?” he asked.
“A tent,” Daniel replied as he turned and pulled more stuff out of the cargo crate that was strapped on the back of his ATV.
Speed jogged over, his optics full of curiosity as he scanned the bundle that the blue clone held in his hands. “Where’s mine?!” he demanded to know. Granted, he didn’t know exactly what a ‘tent’ was. But if TC got one – by god he should get one too!
Daniel glanced over at them. “You share one, and Sam and I share one,” he chuckled.
“So what do we do with it?” TC asked as he grudgingly allowed Speed to grab it and look at it.
“You two set it up. Instructions are inside. Just be careful NOT to damage it!” Sam informed him as he walked by to help Daniel. The man couldn’t help but chuckle to his lover as he got to him. “You SURE this was a good idea?”
Daniel winked as he handed Sam their tent. “A lesson in teamwork! It’ll be interesting to see what happens,” he said in his cheerful voice.
TC turned to Speed and held his hands out. “Gimme the tent,” he said to him.
“Fuck you, I’ll set it up!” Speed snickered, his hand already fishing inside the bag as he searched for the instructions.
“He said both of us set it up you dirt eater!” TC snarled as he made a grab for the bag.
“All you know how to do is file papers. Let the master handle this one!” the yellow clone snickered as he smoothly avoided allowing TC’s hands to fall on the tent bag.
“Why you freagin’ yellow piece of slag! We’re supposed to do this together!” the blue clone growled as he lunged for the bag. This time, he pushed Speed down and snagged it.
Speed grunted as his face plate hit the rocky ground, he went to get up, but a thruster well-placed in the center of his back armor held him down. “Why you fuckin’ fly boy! Let me up!” he yelled as he tried in vain to squirm out from under the thruster.
“I’ll engage it and burn your slaggin’ yellow aft unless you AGREE that we do it as a team!” TC snarled as he pressed his thruster down even more firmly on the struggling yellow clone’s back armor.
“You wouldn’t dare!” Speed grumbled.
“Try me,” TC replied with a smirk. He was fishing out the instructions as he held the yellow clone down.
“You are such an asshole, you know that?” the yellow clone griped as he tried, unsuccessfully, to roll over so that he could grab TC’s thruster and make his aft hit the dirt.
“And your point is?” TC smirked, not concerned in the least that Speed was calling him names. He’d gotten used to the back and forth insults long ago. Flipping the instructions open, he began to read them. His thruster still holding the yellow clone flat against the ground… “So, you gonna agree, or get fried?” he asked in an offhanded manner as he continued to read.
“Suck my freagin’ cable asswipe! AKKKKKKKKKKK! OOOOUUUUUCCCCCHHHHH! GOOODDDDD DDDAAAMMMMNNNNED YOOOUUUUUUU!” Speed shrieked as TC casually engaged that one thruster and painfully heated up the armor on his back side.
“Say ‘uncle’ dirt eater,” TC snickered as he continued his thruster torture of Speed; God the clone was such a stubborn aft!
“OK, OK, UUUUNNNNNCCCCCLLLLLEEEEE!” Speed shrieked. Instantly, both the heat and the thruster disappeared from his back side. He sat up, rubbing his back. “God damned freagin’ fly boy!” he griped under his breath.
TC was done reading the directions, he wandered around the ‘campsite’ that Daniel and Sam had decided upon, and found a good flat area. He began to kick the loose rocks from it. “Well, you gonna sit there and feel sorry for yourself, or are ya gonna help?” he asked Speed.
Not wanting TC to have all the ‘fun’, Speed got up and trotted over. Soon they were joking happily as they clumsily set up the tent.
Sam looked over at Daniel as they set up their own tent. “You know, its kind’ve hard seeing Speed get his ass kicked all the time,” he mentioned.
Daniel shrugged as he glanced over at the two happy clones. “Well, they’re just like brothers. Once they get it out of their systems, they work quite well together,” he replied with a chuckle.
------
Speed and TC hid under the covers of their sleeping bags as Daniel continued the scary tale. The sounds of the Nebraska wilds all around them, made his story that much more realistic. They’d both been pretty depressed when the men had told them there would be no TV and no video games once they got to their destination. And after two days of driving, they were there. They’d left the truck parked at a friend’s ranch house, and then the clones followed the ATV riding men out into the wild land. Sure enough, no electronics out here!
But Daniel and Sam had taught them some real cool things to do at night. The roasting of marshmallows was absolutely FASCINATING to the two droids. Even though they themselves didn’t eat the things, it was just fun catching them on fire and blowing them out, only to catch the other side on fire. They had also been fascinated with how to cook over an open fire. The bean smell of their armor testament to their last little argument – when they’d ended up throwing their cooking beans at each other.
Now Daniel was teaching them cool things to do at night in their tent. They’d spent an hour with the flashlight, each one trying to outdo the other in what fantasy shadow creatures they could make against the side of the tent. Speed THOUGHT he had won that little competition! So he had smugly smirked at the blue clone as Daniel had praised them both.
But the ghost stories were the best. Absolutely the best! Even though they scared the two clones, they begged for more after he was done with each gruesome tale. Daniel had ended up telling them stories about his time in the service. About all those killer missions he had done as a Navy Seal! The clones idolized him, fantasized about being him as he stalked his prey.
Finally, it was time for Daniel to retire to his tent with Sam. “Now Speed, you KNOW you’d better not interrupt us ok?” he warned with a wink.
Speed frowned, knowing exactly what the two men would be doing when Daniel said that to him. “But I wanna do it too!” he whined as he slid out from his sleeping bag.
Daniel hugged the clone and gave him a kiss. “I love you buddy, but sometimes we want to be alone. Perhaps tomorrow night?” he offered.
Eagerly, the yellow clone nodded and smiled. “But what if TC and I get bored? Huh, huh? I mean we don’t need to charge or anything and we defragged last night!” he whined.
Daniel patted the clone’s shoulder armor. Part of this trip was to test those new ‘power production’ systems that Randy had installed on the clones. As long as they had access to water, or a couple hours of sunlight – they should remain fully charged for days. They had also wanted to test their new GPS systems and see how well the droids could utilize their infrared, low light visual, motion detection, radar and laser tracking systems. Yes, a hunting trip in the rough Nebraska country side was the perfect way to test all of those things! “Tell you what. If you two get real bored, then go exploring. Just don’t go more than a half mile from camp, keep your eyes open for predators, and STICK TOGETHER!” he told them.
The two clones looked at each other and grinned. Exploring? That sounded COOL!!! They waited until Daniel left. Going back to the flashlight and shadow game for a while in order to pass the time.. But the idea of exploring entranced both of them, and soon, they were outside the tent. Like two teenaged boys sneaking off into trouble.
Their optics glowed red as they switched to infrared sensors. The landscape lit up a kaleidoscope of crazy colors in their metas as they did so. Wandering off together, the pair of clones headed towards the edge of the hilltop on which they were camped. Although it was more than a mere ‘hill’, more like a cross between it and a craggy mountaintop. Just not tall enough to be considered a true mountain anymore! Dotted along its scrub covered steep side, were junipers and spruce trees. The hardy plants reaching up their twisted limbs towards the dark sky, as if sneering at the harsh climate in which they endured and thrived.
“Pretty steep going down this way,” TC quietly noted as he looked down the incredibly steep slope.
“Well fly boy, then freagin’ give me a lift would ya!” Speed quipped with a grin on his face. He held up his hands, waiting for his buddy to lift off and grab them.
TC thought about it for a second. And then his face brightened up with a mischievous grin. “Why don’t we slide? Just like on the playground?” he asked as he cocked his head and met Speed’s optics. “Betcha I’ll beat your ass down there!” he challenged.
Speed just couldn’t resist a challenge! Just couldn’t! So even though he thought it’d be better to fly, he plopped himself down on his aft armor next to TC. “I’ll beat your aft, you loser!” he smirked as he shoved off.
They went careening down the steep grass-covered dirt slope on their afts. Snickering and baiting each other as they each grunted as they hit small rocks along the way. Soon all semblance of controlled descent disappeared as they ended up tumbling and rolling the last part of the way, ending up on top of each other at the bottom.
“Get off me you freagin’ fly boy!” Speed griped as he shoved the blue clone off him. But then a slag-eating smile crossed his face. For if he was on the bottom, then he’d stopped first - Which meant he’d won! He leapt to his feet, dancing around the blue clone “I beat your a-ass! I beat your a-ass!” he sang.
TC picked himself up off the ground and grinned as he dusted himself off. He didn’t really care who won – he’d just wanted to try it! “Hey dude, wonder what’s in there?” he asked, filling his voice with mystery as he pointed to the tree-filled narrow valley that they’d ended up in.
Speed clamped his mouth shut, his optics drawn to the ominous looking mini-forest. The curious clone couldn’t wait to find out what was in there!
For hours, the two clones snuck through the darkness of the woods. They played a game of stealth for a while, attempting to sneak up and spook the variety of small nocturnal animals they spotted with their infrared optics. Getting bored of that, they began a game of hide-and-seek with each other. The entire narrow valley being their playground…
The sound of yelling and screaming filled their audios at about 2am. Speed and TC’s heads shot up as they looked up at the top of the hill. The yells of panic were those of Sam’s.
“Take us up there fly boy!” Speed yelled.
TC transformed, Speed landing on his topside almost before he was fully in jet mode. He engaged full afterburners, streaking up the steep hillside in the blink of an optic. Getting to the top, TC transformed as Speed leapt off of him and ran towards the commotion.
A mountain lion was on top of Daniel. Its claws digging in as it tried to get at his neck. The powerful athlete had his hands locked in a death grip on its jaws, barely keeping the cat’s gaping maul from his neck. He screamed as the cat raked him again and again with his claws. Sam was trying to swing at it with his hunting rifle. But the cat was growling as it batted at him.
TC and Speed ran up. Neither one had the slightest clue as to how to act in this situation. But Daniel was yelling for help, so without a second thought, both clones jumped on the mountain lion’s back.
Now being attached by two from above, the large cat disengaged from its initial prey.. Agilely flipping over in its attackers grasp, it fought desperately with its teeth and claws. Raking their armor mercilessly and it now fought for its life. But the two droids were enraged. Their metal hands gripped the cat as they pounded it while they screamed at it for attacking their master. With a final yowl – the hungry predator died under their pounding hands.
“Lay down Daniel, let me look!” Sam ordered as he ran over to the cursing man writhing on the ground. In the back of his mind he realized that the fact Daniel was cursing was a good thing. It meant that he was still cognitive. “Speed, come here, turn on your headlights and focus them on him!” Sam barked.
Pulling himself off the dead feline he was still pounding, Speed yelped and ran over. Doing as Sam ordered, he whimpered in concern as he hovered over Daniel. His Daniel.. His wonderful, wonderful Daniel! His almost naked body covered in blood.. Speed whimpered in fear for his Daniel.. “Daniel.. Daniel.. Are you ok? Please tell me your ok? Daniel .. Daniel..” he cried as he stood stock still, following Sam’s orders.
After giving the feline a final punch, TC ran up to the group. He shifted from thruster to thruster in worry.
“TC, get the first aid kit from my ATV!” Sam ordered. Daniel was bleeding profusely from some deep slashes along his side and thigh.
TC ran over, ripped the yellow bag from the ATV and ran back, falling to his knee armor next to the bloody man. “Are you gonna be ok Daniel.. Are you? Are you? Are you?” he stammered, even as Sam got bandages out and directed his hands to apply pressure to the wounds.
Daniel gritted his teeth, his training in the military so long ago, helping him to handle the pain. “I’ll be fine boys.. Fine..” he said between gritted teeth. “How bad is it Sam?” he asked.
“You’re gonna need a LOT of stitches. You’ve got some pretty deep gashes from its claws,” Sam told him as he applied pressure on some deep gashes in the man’s thigh.
“Fuck, this sucks! God damned mountain lions!” Daniel muttered. Then he looked up at the two worried clones. Clones that had probably saved him from serious injury – or worse! “Boys, I owe you my life,” he praised them.
Speed couldn’t stand still any longer. He fell to his knee armor next to Daniel, cradling his head against him. “I was so, so worried master.. So, so worried!” he sobbed.
Daniel patted him as he met Sam’s eyes. Forcing the weeping clone to meet his hazel eyes, he looked up at Speed. “You know, I’m not your master anymore Speed. I’m family,” he said softly, “I love you, even if I call you my ‘toy’ and stuff – you know that right?”
The yellow clone sniffed as he looked down at the bloody man he was cradling. “You really love me? Like, like Sharon loves TC?” he asked.
Sam reached over and slapped him on his shoulder armor. “We BOTH love you like Sharon loves TC,” he said with a warm smile.
Speed looked from one to the other, a strange hum emanating from his chassis. “So you’re not really my ‘masters’ anymore?” he asked as he searched their faces.
“Nope, we’re family,” Sam confirmed.
Speed glanced over at TC, a smirk covering his face. He stuck his olfactory sensor up in the air at the blue clone. “Hah, I’ve got TTTWWWOOOOO – You only have ONNNNEEEE!” he bragged.
TC just grinned, he only needed one. That’s all.
----
It was decided that TC would ‘air lift’ Daniel to the nearest hospital since it would take half-the time of waiting for a rescue helicopter to find them. After wrapping his wounds with tight pressure bandages, the three of them helped him into a sleeping bag so that he would be warm on the forty five minute flight. They tied him face down across TC’s top side, making sure that he was secure and reasonably comfortable.. Sam calling ahead to alert the hospital of his pending arrival…
“Well, be careful TC,” Sam said as he patted the six foot by six foot jet on his wing.
“Ya fly boy, no doing anything crazy with my man on top of ya!” Speed added. He and Sam gave Daniel a kiss and then watched him as his little ‘rescue jet’ whisked him towards the hospital for his stitches.
