In the dorm shared by the girls of the Winx Club, Musa stood in front of the door to Bloom's bedroom and knocked. A moment later the red haired fire fairy opened the door and looked out.
"Hey Musa. What's up?"
The pigtailed music fairy put her left arm behind her back to clasp her right elbow.
"Hey. You remember that incident we were talking about at dinner?"
Bloom rested one arm up against the door frame.
"You mean with Icy and Layla this afternoon?"
Musa nodded.
"Yeah. Ya see the thing is there's a lot more to that situation that she didn't tell you guys about."
Bloom looked at her curiously.
"Like what?"
Musa let go of her elbow and held her hand out to one side.
"Well, like this wasn't the first time those two have kissed. From what Layla told me earlier they've kinda been doing a lot of that, and not just little pecks on the cheek either. They've kissed like four times since the skating competition on Saturday, and that's not counting the one the whole school saw this afternoon."
Bloom looked stunned.
"Icy and Layla? Are you sure?"
Musa gave a nod.
"Got it straight from the dragon's mouth. Seems to be Icy mostly instigating things, but Layla doesn't seem to be objecting too strenuously. And that little run Layla mentioned where she got herself into trouble? That was her freaking out because I told her she oughta steer clear of Icy. I'm really starting to get worried about her."
Bloom put her arm down and folded her arms over her stomach.
"Wow. I can see why. Does anyone else know about this?"
Musa shook her head.
"Just Mirta. She was there at the time. I figured since you volunteered yourself to team up with Layla on this whole double-teaming-the-Trix scheme that you oughta know about it."
Bloom nodded.
"Thanks for the warning. I guess I'm gonna have to watch out for Layla and try to keep her from getting in over her head."
Musa placed her right hand on her hip and held her left hand out to the side.
"Are you even sure this is still such a good idea? Maybe we should call it off."
Bloom shook her head.
"It doesn't sound like Layla wants to stay away from Icy. If we don't do this she'll be sneaking around on her own. This way at least we can all help keep an eye on her and make sure she's okay."
Musa gave her an uncertain look.
"So do you think we should tell the others?"
Bloom placed a fingertip on her chin and rolled her eyes upward thoughtfully.
"Well, I don't think that's really necessary, but I would like to bring Flora in on this. I think she could really help us with this."
Musa thought about it a moment then nodded.
"I guess you're right. Someone as sympathetic as Flora could be a major help here."
Bloom stepped out into the front hall and closed her door behind her.
"Come on. Let's get Flora and then go talk to Layla."
They crossed the front hall diagonally to the door of the bedroom shared by Flora and Tecna. Noticing the door wasn't quite fully closed, Bloom grabbed the doorknob and pushed it open, sticking her head in to look around. She spotted Tecna at her computer typing an email while Flora lay on her bed on her stomach with her legs bent up in the air as she read. Bloom knocked on the door to get their attention.
"Hey Tecna, mind if we borrow Flora for a bit?"
Tecna turned her head to smile at the redhead with mild amusement.
"Certainly not. Go right ahead."
As Tecna turned back to her email, Flora stuck a bookmark in her book and climbed off the bed to join Bloom and Musa in the front hall of their dorm. She gave them a curious smile.
"What's going on?"
Musa stuck her thumbs in her pockets and gave the flower fairy a worried look.
"It's Layla. We need to talk to her. She wasn't giving you guys the straight skinny at dinner tonight. This business with Icy is a lot more serious than she made it sound."
Flora gave her a look of concern.
"You think Layla was lying to us?"
Musa shrugged her shoulders.
"Not lying exactly. More like bending the truth a bit to keep us from worrying about her. What bugs me though is it kinda sounds like Icy might be trying to seduce her. They've been sneaking around kissing and stuff. I'm worried Layla's getting in over her head."
Flora held her fingers up in front of her mouth in shock and concern.
"Oh my goodness."
Bloom gestured toward the door to Musa and Layla's room.
"We're gonna go talk to Layla now and see if we can talk some sense into her."
Flora looked at both of them.
"And you want me to come?"
Musa nodded and looked down.
"Yeah. I kinda messed up when I spoke to her this afternoon and got her all upset. We could really use some of your sensitivity to help keep things calm and let her know we're just concerned about her."
Flora laid an arm on the music fairy's shoulder and smiled at her.
"Alright. I'll help out in any way I can."
Bloom gave her a smile.
"That's all we could ask for."
She led them through the wide archway bisecting the front hall of their dorm to the door of Musa and Layla's room. Standing aside, she let the music fairy take the lead as Musa opened the door and preceded them in. Layla looked up from where she sat in a chair taking notes from a textbook.
"Hey guys. What's going on?"
Musa sat down on her bed, facing the water fair.
"We need to talk to you, about Icy."
Layla's face fell and her voice took on a slightly disappointed tone as she closed her notebook and textbook.
"You told them?"
Musa nodded as Flora sat down beside her and Bloom seated herself on Layla's bed.
"I'm sorry, but they needed to know."
Bloom held out a hand toward the brown-skinned princess.
"We're worried about you Layla. Icy isn't exactly known for being a nice person. This sudden interest you've taken in her is kind of unsettling."
Layla shook her head, setting her schoolbooks aside.
"Actually it's not all that sudden. I've kind of been interested in her for a while now. I just never figured anything would ever come of it."
Flora looked at her quizzically.
"You mean you've had feelings for her all this time?"
Layla shifted uncomfortably in her chair, not looking at the others.
"It... That's not quite it. I kinda... I think she's hot, okay? I've kinda been attracted to her ever since Theorbella."
Musa rubbed her chin between her thumb and forefinger.
"Theorbella? Wasn't that where you and her got zapped to by that spell Baltor used to try to get rid of all of us?"
Flora folded her hands in her lap.
"I remember that. You were gone for nearly two weeks. We were all so worried we'd never see you again."
Layla nodded without looking up.
"Yeah. I guess I never really told you guys much about what happened there. I told you guys how the two of us had to help each other to survive, but what I didn't tell you was that being forced to spend all that time alone together kinda made us take stock of each other. I mean, when there's literally only one other person in your entire world and you have to rely on each other to live, it brings you together in ways not much else will."
Musa narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"You mean you fucked her?"
Bloom's eyes went wide with shock at Musa's accusation.
"Musa?!"
Layla looked up at the music fairy and waved both hands at her in negation.
"No no! Of course not! I wasn't that desperate! Although if we'd been stuck there for the rest of our lives, who knows. But we did have to shower together. My one arm was broken and I could barely wash myself. Washing my own hair was all but impossible. And Icy couldn't stand up on her broken leg, so I had to help her in and out and aim the shower head for her while she sat in a chair to wash up and rinse off. We got pretty used to seeing each other's bodies. And with no one else around and not much to do besides looking after our basic needs we kinda had to entertain ourselves, so we wound up exchanging life stories. Icy's got more scars than you might think, and most of them aren't on the outside."
Flora wore a sympathetic look.
"Sounds like the two of you became fairly intimate with each other, even without making love."
Layla lowered her head marginally and nodded.
"I guess you could say that. It's kinda hard to keep seeing someone as your enemy after sharing an experience like that."
Bloom gestured vaguely with her hand.
"I guess that explains why you were so sympathetic to her when you beat her at the ice-skating competition."
Layla's expression turned thoughtful.
"Huh. Maybe. I hadn't thought of it that way before. Maybe that's why I could see why winning meant so much to her, and why it hurt so much for her to lose."
Musa's expression seemed a little more understanding.
"And why you cared so much about her pain."
Layla nodded.
"I still didn't see her as a friend or anything, and I was still mad at her for trying to cheat me like that, but I guess I figured she deserved something good in her life, some kind of reward for trying so hard to be the best. Yeah, she takes it way too far and she's not very nice about it, but where would any of us be if nobody had ever been nice to us?"
Bloom lowered her head as that thought sank in.
"Wow. I don't even wanna think about it. That's scary."
Musa looked like she was tasting something she wasn't sure she liked.
"Maybe, but that still doesn't excuse the way she behaves."
Layla shook her head.
"You're right, it doesn't. But maybe with the right incentives she can change all that."
Musa looked skeptical.
"I dunno. I still think-"
Just then Layla's cell phone started ringing. She held up her hand as she fished in her pocket with the other one.
"Just a second guys."
Not recognizing the number of the caller, she pressed Talk and held the phone up to her ear.
"Hello?"
At that very moment over at Cloud Tower, Icy leaned back in her chair as she spoke into her own phone.
"Hey there friend. Guess who?"
Layla's eyes lit up.
"Hey Icy! We were just talking about you!"
Icy frowned but kept her voice to a light bantering tone.
"All good things I hope?"
Layla grinned as she glanced at her friends.
"Nothing but."
Icy smirked as she caught Darcy's eye. She knew better than to believe that.
"Listen Layla, I was just wondering if maybe you wanted to go out and do something together Friday night? I mean, if you don't already have other plans."
Musa leaned forward to whisper "What's she saying?" Layla covered the mouthpiece and whispered back "She wants to meet up Friday night."
Uncovering the mouthpiece she said "Nothing definite right now. Got any ideas?"
Stormy gave the ice witch a "Go on!" gesture with her hands. Icy flipped her the bird.
"Well I was thinking since we both love to skate so much maybe we could go out rollerskating. How's that sound?"
Layla covered the mouthpiece again.
"She wants to take me rollerskating."
Bloom leaned in to whisper back.
"Ask if we can come too, and Darcy and Stormy."
Layla nodded and uncovered the mouthpiece.
"Sounds good! Why don't we bring our friends along and make it a group outing?"
Seeing Icy's eyes go wide Darcy leaned forward to whisper "What'd she say?" Icy covered the mouthpiece and whispered back "She wants to bring her friends, and she wants me to bring you guys too."
Stormy narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"What for?"
Darcy gave her a patient look.
"Safety in numbers, probably. And she wants us to come so Icy doesn't feel overwhelmed. Tell her it's fine with us."
Icy nodded and spoke into the phone.
"Sure, sounds good. Darcy and Stormy said they'd be glad to come with."
Layla smiled triumphantly.
"That's great! When and where?"
Icy picked up the sheet of paper with the printout of the webpage for the roller rink.
"You know where the Colosseum is?"
Layla nodded.
"Yep. Sure do."
Icy grinned.
"Let's meet up there at 8 o'clock. Sound good?"
Layla smiled again.
"Sounds good. See you then!"
Icy's grin turned to a smirk.
"See ya then."
She hung up her cellphone and shared a wicked grin with her sisters.
"It's all set. Friday night will be my night to sweep Layla off her feet, and right in front of her friends even. This is gonna be so good."
Stormy frowned at her.
"But what about the others? They're not gonna let you have Layla all to yourself."
Darcy laid a hand on the storm witch's shoulder.
"That's where we come in. You and I will keep the others busy while Icy puts the moves on Layla."
Stormy looked nonplussed by that idea.
"Hrr. This plan is gonna suck. There's no way the two of us are gonna keep all five of them busy while you suck up to the black bitch. And what if they bring their boyfriends along too?"
Icy smirked at that.
"All the better. If those girls are busy having fun with their boyfriends they'll be too preoccupied to interfere with me and Layla."
She glanced at Darcy.
"Just make sure to keep Layla's boyfriend distracted if she brings him along. Him I don't need interfering."
Darcy grinned back darkly.
"Oh, don't worry. I can handle my end of things as long as Stormy can handle hers."
Stormy folded her arms crossly.
"Hey, all I gotta do is keep the others away from you and Miss Princess, right? I can do that easy."
Icy held up an admonishing finger.
"And you have to do it without starting a fight. If a fight breaks out Layla and I will get swept up in it and the whole night's a disaster."
Stormy turned her back on the others and grumped.
"Spoilsport."
Back at Alfea, Layla grinned at the others and she put her phone away.
"It's all set. Friday night, 8 o'clock at the Colosseum."
Musa glanced at the others.
"Think we should bring the guys along?"
Bloom flipped her hand palm up.
"Let's tell them what's going on and see what they think. If they wanna come along that's fine with me."
Flora looked worried.
"Not that I wouldn't like to spend some time with Helia, but won't having the boys there make it difficult to focus on helping Icy and her sisters? It could be distracting."
Musa smirked at Layla.
"Not to mention having Nabu there might put a crimp in Layla's style as she tries to get cozy with Icy."
Layla scowled back at her.
"Hey, this isn't a date or anything. If the guys wanna tag along that's just fine by me. The more the merrier, right?"
