About three weeks later, Futura’s assistance was needed on a bust in San Diego. Since a major industrial corporation was the victim of this particular supernatural attack, Jessica’s TV station sent her there for the weekend to report on the incident. That was the beauty of dating a Ghostbuster . . . inside information. It was a difficult bust that took them nearly two days to complete, but they were careful and well organized. Once the problem was dematerialized, Jessica made a soon-to-be award winning national news telecast about how a former employee who had been laid off was dabbling in Black Magic. He had invoked powerful spirits to exact his revenge for him. He had ordered them to destroy the company and kill as many people as possible. In the end, there was minimal property damage, and no one was seriously hurt.
As she was the only reporter present on the scene, the story was an exclusive for Jessica’s station. It was a fruitful day for all.
Jake and Eddie were now working out the monetary details of the job with the company’s president. He was so grateful that the spooks hadn’t ruined him or killed anyone that in addition to their bill he offered to pay for the four Ghostbusters to spend the weekend in the same hotel in which Jessica was staying. It was a five-star establishment near the Embarcadero, so naturally, the guys accepted. The hotel staff was a little concerned about Tracey at first. After all, a gorilla had never been a guest before. Within less than ten minutes, they were much more concerned about Eddie.
Futura politely refused, saying that she needed to return to her own time. Eddie and Tracey were all revved up to cross the border to see a bullfight in Tijuana. Eddie asked Jake and Jess to join him for some real Mexican margaritas, complaininat Tat Tracey only liked banana daiquiris. They laughed and declined in the name of helping Jessica ‘kick the habit’, remembering the last time they’d ordered margaritas. “Besides,” Jake whispered to Jessica, “Tijuana is a little too far from our hotel rooms for my liking. I don’t need to go to Mexico to go ‘South of the Border’.”
She smothered her laughter and nudged him playfully. “You need a hobby,” she replied under her breath, but she was very glad to be his favorite distraction.
The ladies walked off together, leaving the boys to their business. Futura said that she wanted to say good-bye to the guys, so they sat on a bench together to wait. This gave them a chance to talk alone for the first time since they’d arrived.
“So Jessica. I hear you and Jake are an item now. Congratulations,” Futura said, hugging her.
“Thanks.” Jessica smiled furtively. ‘Gee, Eddie, that was quick,’ she thought.
“I’m really happy for you,” Futura added with a smile.
“Are you now?” The redhead’s sarcasm was not lost on the purple-skinned brunette.
“Sure.” Jessica’s look was skeptical. Futura smiled, staring off into the distance at Jake, Eddie and Tracey. “I never slept with him, you know.” She paused letting her statement sink in then turned to Jessica, who was staring at her with wide eyes. “Oh, don’t look so surprised, Jess. Even if I weren’t telepathic, I could tell from your tone that you’ve heard that I once had a thing for Jake. Well, I won’t lie to you; I did. I really wanted him, and I thought he wanted me too. That’s until you gave him a small glimmer of hope. He forgot all about me after that.” She sounded whimsical, not at all bitter.
‘She sounds almost . . . relieved,’ Jessica thought.
“You must understand, Jessica. In my time, Jake, Eddie, and Tracey are legends. Every little girl wants to be with Prince Charming, right? Well, that’s what Jake was to me, a dashing fairy tale hero. Think of what it would be like for you to date Robin Hood before he met Marion. I figured it was okay for me to date Jake as long as it was before he met you, then I found out that he met you before me, and then I guess I just wanted him so much I decided to go after him anyway. I didn’t stop to think about how horribly I could’ve ruined things with his princess.”
“His princess? Me? Come on Futura, we’re just dating. You know, keeping it casual.”
Jessica wasn’t looking at Futura when she said this. She was watching Jake speak to the client. He turned as if sensing her gaze, and winked at her. She smiled and mouthed the words ‘tonight, lover’. Jake smiled, giving her a smoldering look, and then it was back to the business at hand. Jessica blushed prettily. The rest of the world didn’t exist for them in those few moments.
“Right. Casual.” Futura smiled knowingly at the exchange. She knew exactly where their ‘casual dating’ was going to lead. She might’ve liked to have Jake for herself, but watching the beginnings of their epic romance was a great consolation prize. “No hard feelings, Jessica?”
“Oh, Futura, of course not. You’re my friend. Thank you for talking to me. I feel a lot better about it all, and I’m sorry if I’ve been temperamental. I’m the jealous type.” She shrugged.
“It’s okay. I’m sorry if I put any kind of wedge between you two. Believe it or not, I’m really rooting for you guys.”
Jessica smiled warmly at her friend. “I believe it.”
“Good. Oh look, here they come.” She rose to depart. “Enjoy your weekend with Jake.”
“You mean my weekend with the guys. Remember, Jake and I are just dating casually. They’re all my buddies, and this weekend is more of a friendly vacation than a romantic getaway.”
They smiled at the Ghostbusters as they came towards them. Glancing at her companion, Futura saw love in her eyes. Jake’s expression was equally amorous. “Well okay, whatever, but make sure you find time for each other,” she whispered to Jessica confidentially.
She briefly considered telling the couple that her Ghostbusters Academy history lessons said that they wouldn’t be ‘just dating casually’ for much longer.
‘Nah,’ she thought. ‘Let them find out for themselves. Far be it from me to give away an ending.’ The Ghostbustress of the future then said her good-byes, and set the Timehopper’s controls for the 30th century.
“Let’s go home, Hopper.”
THE BEGINNING . . .

Author’s Notes: FOOLED YOU One One love to my fellow RGB fanatics that thought this was for E/J shippers, but I felt that the Filmation GBs were neglected and needed a smutty fic of their own. My little practical joke was inspired by the similarities in appearance between Jake & Egon and Jessica & Janine. It was easier to write than I’d thought thanks to that naughty little Jake/Jessica/Futura love triangle that was so scandalous to my young mind back in the day. I used it to make a nice little statement against Mary Sue-ism too. Did you catch it? Well, I put a little oomph into the FGBs, but I believe that the story is mostly true to canon. This takes place after the FGB series ended in 1987. Eventually there will be a couple of crossovers with RGB.
Reference was made to several FGB episodes (listed in order of my reference to them):
Maze Caves – Jess takes Jake out for his birthday; Eddie & Tracey go looking for treasure
Statue of Liberty – Jake’s paternal grandfather becomes a US citizen
The Headless Horseman Caper – Jake contends with a ghost who once wronged his family
Like Father, Like Son – Jake must save his family from lycanthropy curse placed on an ancestor
The Sleeping Dragon – the guys are turned to stone in China; Futura & Jessica must save them
Runaway Choo-Choo – Jessica is on a train to the Global Peace Prize ceremony & needs help
The Ransom of Eddie Spenser – Eddie is kidnapped by Prime Evil & Jessica nearly dies in a fall
The Looking Glass Warrior – GBs must rescue Jessica & her uncle from a world thru the mirror
I’ll Be a Son of a Ghostbuster [Pilot] – Jake & Eddie inherit the business from their dads; Jake meets Jessica; GBs meet and help Futura in the 30th century
