(---) Two days later and Dread Wing presented Peak with a costume to wear around Warnado. To Peak, it looked like an oversized cloak that had a dark veil sewn into the hood opening to further obscure his features. It also made it hard for him to see out of it, but Dread refused to let him cut eye slits into the veil. The mutant did offer to get him a mask and another cloak later, but for now, this one would have to do. Peak also found that it was surprisingly heavy, to his extreme displeasure. He could figure why it was, since most of the weight was at the ends of the sleeves, the bottom hem and at the hem of the hood. That meant it would help keep the cloth from moving and revealing that he was human, but it also meant that it was harder for Peak to move in it, which he really didn't like. But Dread had kept his end of the deal and it allowed Peak to leave the room, which he was instantly grateful for. Trying to look around without knocking back his hood or making it too obvious, he jumped when Dread took him by the elbow and instinctively tried to jerk away. Dread's grip was strong though and he growled to the human, “Stay by my side when we're out of the room. Never move away from me unless I tell you otherwise, understand?” Peak grumbled, “Yeah, I got it.” Dread Wing nodded and kept his grip on Peak's arm, leading him towards the throne room. On the way, he explained, “I know you want to explore but put that thought away. Right now, I have to attend court. Perhaps afterwards I could show you around to some areas of the ship, if you behave properly.” Irritated but curious, Peak asked, “Court? I thought all conflicts on Old Earth were handled with battle.” To his surprise, Dread seemed to wilt a little, “If only it were that simple....” Nothing more could be said between the two as they came to the throne room. Right before they entered it, Dread Wing straightened his back and easily schooled his features into a haughty expression. He also released Peak's arm, telling the human, “Follow a few steps behind me and stand just behind my throne. To help protect your identity I'll need to make a cover for you but you must obey me for it to work.” Peak frowned but accepted the terms, “Fine.” Dread frowned, “One last thing, if you must speak to me, do so in as slight a whisper as you can. This will help keep you hidden and further protect your real identity.” Before Peak could ask why, Dread Wing was already striding forward into the throne room itself, forcing the human to either follow or get left behind. As they approached the throne itself, Peak stood where he'd been told to, while Dread leisurely sat down on the throne and arranged himself in his customary stance. He had his feet flat on the ground, but leaned slightly to the side to rest his chin on an upturned fist. A motion from his free hand had a different set of doors opened, letting in the ones involved with this case. Peak was the only one close enough to hear the small, tortured groan escape from Dread at the sight of one very elderly mutant and he couldn't understand why. The third mutant caught sight of Peak and snarled, “Who or what is that?!” Dread Wing glared at the other mutant, growling, “This is my new adviser. He'll be present at my side often from now on. Now, is this case anything I should actually consider or is it another waste of time?” The elderly mutant screeched, “It is most certainly considerable! This thief robbed me and is trying to get more money out of me!” At that, the third mutant turned to the other one and began to defend himself, “I did no such thing! The bill of sale is true and you know it, you grimy old liar!” “SILENCE!” Dread roared, glaring down at both of the newcomers. Sitting up fully, he gripped the arms of his throne and snarled at them, “Either present this case civilly or get out! Now, will one of you tell me properly what this matter is about or should I have the dark dramen throw you both out?” Peak watched Dread Wing in surprise, amazed at how he had made himself the most dominant figure in the room so quickly, easily cowing the other two with just his voice and body language. Though Peak soon found there was another reason for that, as it turned out the elderly mutant used every trick he could think of to lengthen the case out in hopes of turning it in his favor. After what felt like hours, Dread Wing dismissed the case, stating that the bill of sale really was true and that the elderly mutant had best pay the remainder of his bill or else. Leaving the throne room, Dread took Peak straight back to the bedroom, which the human didn't protest. As soon as they were safely inside, he yanked off the hot and heavy cloak, sitting down heavily on one corner of Dread's bed with an exhale of relief, “Is that how it is all the time?” Dread Wing sat down on his bed as well, shaking his head, “No, today was one of the better ones. Grim Fang, the old mutant, was a good friend of my father, so he feels he's got weight to throw around that he doesn't. The merchant, Dark Claw, is a decent sort, as far as they go. He only cheats clients that have cheated him before, so even if the bill wasn't true I'd have likely ruled in his favor, if only to get Grim Fang out of my throne room.” Peak blinked, “Wait, you'd have ruled unfairly against Grim Fang, just because?” Dread gave him a look, “Considering that Grim Fang has previously brought cases to me purely on the basis that he felt the other party didn't show him enough respect, then yes, I would have. That old fool wastes a lot of my valuable time and I'd rather deal with him as infrequently as possible.” The teen frowned, “Why do you deal with him at all then?” The red mutant growled, “Because if I had him killed it'd be too suspicious.” Peak's frown deepened, “But seriously, why do you deal with him? You always made it clear to us that you're the strongest power in Warnado. What does an old mutant like Grim Fang have on you?” Dread Wing shook his head, suddenly seeming oddly tired, “I'll tell you some other time. For now, I'm getting us something to eat.” Peak almost protested, but something in the way Dread had spoken stopped him. He frowned to himself as Dread left the room. Perhaps Warnado wasn't as completely under Dread Wing's control as they'd always thought it to be.While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
