Upon arriving back at Cloud Tower, Icy made a beeline for the cafeteria for dinner. Spending all day at Alfea stalking Layla had caused her to miss lunch. Her disguise might have been good enough to fool people in passing but there was no way she could risk going through the lunch line. Letting that many people take a good long look at her would be a surefire way to raise suspicions that she didn't belong, not to mention that the serving ladies would have immediately picked her out as a student they had never served before. Now she was hungry enough that she didn't care what disgusting slop they might be serving tonight as long as she got something to put in her belly.
As fate would have it though, she ran into the last person she wanted to see after skipping school all day. The scowl on Miss Griffin's face would have fried an egg at ten paces had one been available for frying.
"Ah, there you are! And just where have you been all day young lady? I'm told that you haven't been to a single one of your classes today."
Icy knew just how to handle this old battle-axe. She might have lost all of her memories when that spell backfired on them but three months spent in the familiar environs of Cloud Tower had helped to bring back a lot of old memories. She planted her hands on her hips and cocked them to one side, putting on a grin that read 'You're gonna like this.'
"Just out witching around."
Miss Griffin was quite familiar with that look and took the bait with interest.
"Oh? Up to anything interesting?"
The grin on Icy's face intensified.
"I've been busy planting the seeds of a plot to bust up the friendship of a particularly annoying group of fairies."
An approving smirk appeared on Griffin's face. Icy and her sisters always had showed considerable promise as mischief-makers. Of course this time around she was determined not to allow their mischievous ways to blossom into true evil as they had last time.
"Good. That's the sort of ambition I like to see in my students. Next time however if you are going to be missing classes I expect you to come to me first for permission. Unexcused absences are not acceptable."
Icy wanted to tell Miss Griffin where she could stuff her permission but she knew better than to cause herself unnecessary trouble.
"Sorry Miss Griffin. It won't happen again."
The headmistress gave a nod.
"Good. If you plan on getting dinner you'd best hurry. You've got about five minutes before the cafeteria closes."
The ice witch silently cursed her luck and Miss Griffin's nosiness as she hurried to the cafeteria. There was no way she wanted to miss lunch AND dinner in the same day! Her stomach was already growling as it was. With all the other students already seated she was able to whiz through the line as fast as she could load her tray. The serving ladies didn't put up much of a fuss when she asked for double portions since the meal was almost over and anything they didn't serve was getting thrown out anyway. She found Darcy and Stormy quickly enough, sitting at their usual table. Stormy gave her a curious frown as Icy set down her tray and took a seat beside her.
"Hey Icy! Where've you been today?"
Icy had started shoveling food down her throat as soon as her ass hit the chair. She stopped eating just long enough to say "Tell ya later. What'd I miss today?"
Darcy, having somewhat of an inkling of what Icy must have been up to all day, watched Icy wolf down her food with amusement.
"Professor Zarathsthra gave a pop quiz in Cursology today. Nice way to start off the week. Shame you missed it."
Stormy stared at Icy's voracious appetite in growing amazement.
"Professor Bittersmoke screwed up a demonstration in Potionology today. He added blackmoss to a potion instead of gandrake root and created a huge stink cloud. We had to evacuate the potions lab until they got the place aired out." She paused for a moment before adding "Are you really gonna eat all that?"
Icy looked up from her gorging to glare at the storm witch.
"I missed lunch and I'm starving, so back off!"
Stormy held up her hands apologetically.
"Hey, no problem. I was just asking."
Darcy and Stormy sat watching in silent awe as Icy plowed through the food piled on her tray. The pile rapidly diminished in size as Icy's frenzied face-stuffing gradually slowed down to a more modest pace. A couple of minutes later Icy sat back in her chair, laid her hand on her stomach and gave a satisfied groan.
"Ooooh. That hit the spot. If I ever decide to spend the day stalking someone again I'm packing a lunch."
Stormy leaned forward curiously.
"Who were you stalking?"
Icy was going to tell Stormy to mind her own business but Darcy beat her to the punch, saying simply "Layla." Stormy's brow furrowed in confusion.
"That princess from Tides? The one who beat you out at the competition on Saturday?"
Icy shot Darcy a dark look. She hadn't really wanted Stormy to know about that. She turned an annoyed frown on the storm witch.
"Yes, that Layla."
Stormy held out her hand questioningly.
"So why were you stalking her?"
Icy leaned back in her chair with a smirk.
"Because it seems that she's developed a little crush on me."
A conspiratorial grin spread across Stormy's face.
"Ooh!"
A moment later that grin turned to a look of confusion.
"Wait, if she's got a crush on you why were you stalking her? Shouldn't it be the other way around?"
Icy gave her an annoyed scowl.
"Stormy, try to keep up. She's a fairy with a crush on a witch. Do you think she wants to admit that to anyone? Even to herself?"
Stormy blinked, with a look on her face which spoke of unfamiliar wheels of thought grinding slowly into motion.
"Uh, I guess not."
The ice witch leaned forward, resting both arms on the table.
"Exactly. She's gonna do whatever she can to avoid having to admit that. So no, she's not going to be stalking me. Which is why I have to stalk her instead."
Stormy scowled in confusion.
"How come? Why bother?"
Icy clenched both hands into fists.
"Because, you simpleton! The more time I spend around her the more I can feed into her little crush and make it grow. The more her crush grows, the more she'll fall in love with me. And the more she falls in love with me, the more it'll alienate her from her friends."
A wicked grin broke across Stormy's face as the pieces started coming together for her.
"Oh, I get it. Divide and conquer."
Darcy gave her an approving smile.
"Exactly. Every member they lose weakens them. And if we can get some of them supporting Layla and some opposing her, even better."
Stormy's eyes lit up with glee.
"The Winx Club fighting among themselves? I'd pay to see that!"
Icy returned her a malicious grin.
"If this plan works, you'll get to see it for free."
Just then the cafeteria ladies came out to announce that the cafeteria was closing. Icy stood up.
"Come on ladies. Let's head back to our room and I'll fill you both in on the latest details."
She headed for the door, inconsiderately leaving her empty tray sitting on the table. Darcy and Stormy followed suit. A couple of minutes later they arrived back at the room the three of them shared. Icy sank down on the couch, spreading her arms out along the back and leaning her head back.
"Oh! It feels good to relax. I've been on my feet all day."
Darcy sat on the coffee table and leaned back, propping one arm behind her to hold her up.
"Don't get too comfortable and fall asleep on us."
Stormy perched on the arm of a chair.
"Yeah. We wanna hear about what you did today."
Icy raised her head and regarded them proudly, like a queen upon an oversized throne.
"Alright, I'll tell you about my day. This morning I disguised myself as a fairy and snuck into Alfea. I spent most of the day hiding out, watching whatever classroom Layla happened to be in while I waited for the bell to ring. When it did I picked out somebody coming out of the same class and talked to them, making excuses to find out whatever they knew about Layla's class schedule. Eventually I lucked out and learned about a class she'd be going to where she'd be walking down a nearly deserted hallway to get there. I staked out an empty classroom along the way and reeled her in as she was walking by."
Stormy smiled at that.
"Nice."
Darcy shook her head in disbelief.
"You spent all day stalking her, then let her know you were stalking her? That was subtle."
Icy ignored Darcy's sarcastic barb.
"She didn't recognize me at first, of course, but once I kissed her she figured it out pretty quick."
Stormy looked appalled.
"You kissed a fairy? Gross!"
Darcy just sat there with her arms folded, scowling in silence. Icy smirked at the storm witch.
"Hey, don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Of course she got the better end of the bargain. All the lessons Darcy's given me paid off bigtime. One kiss and she barely knows where she is."
Darcy leaned forward to point at her angrily.
"Obviously you haven't been paying close enough attention to my lessons. A kiss is supposed to be the clincher that reels the fish in, not the bait used to get her interested."
Icy waved that off.
"She's already interested. She just isn't ready to admit it yet."
Darcy folded her arms with a grumpy scowl.
"I still think you're moving way too fast. You're gonna scare her off the hook if you're not careful."
The ice witch held up her hand with the thumb and forefinger pinched together, like she was dangling something between them.
"This little fishy doesn't want off the hook or she'd have jumped already. She's already taken the bait, hook, line and sinker, and pretty soon she'll be swallowing the entire pole."
Stormy pulled a face.
"Can we stop talking in fishing metaphors? I hate fish."
Icy laid her arm back on the back of the couch.
"Anyway, we got to talking and I convinced her to meet me after school. She even gave me her cell phone number."
Stormy leaned forward interestedly.
"So where'd you meet her?"
Icy raised one hand to examine her nails, pretending to be bored while secretly loving being the center of attention.
"Down by the lake, and I gave her quite an eyeful too. I decided to let her catch me skinny-dipping. You should have seen the look on her face when I climbed out of the water stark naked and dripping wet."
Stormy's jaw dropped at that.
"You let her see you naked?! Why did you do that?"
The ice witch gave her a scowl.
"To whet her appetite for more. She's already in lust with me. Showing her the goods just made her want me even more."
Darcy sat turned away from Icy with her arms still folded and her eyes closed.
"Icy, you have all the subtlety of a brick to the head. I can't believe you'd take all my lessons on seduction and throw them out the window like that. The girl must be head-over-heals in love with you not to notice the way you're blatantly manipulating her. If she isn't then believe me, she will notice soon enough."
Icy leaned forward and pointed at the dark witch as she snarled back at her.
"Hey! You're the one who keeps saying that any seduction has to adapt to the subject in order to be successful. The girl's so deep in denial that it's hard to get her to notice when I'm flirting with her. I had to ramp it up to get her to take notice."
Darcy whipped her head around to give Icy an over-the-glasses stare.
"The whole point of a seduction is that the target isn't supposed to know that they're being seduced! All they're supposed to know is that they're getting increasingly strong feelings of attraction for you, NOT that you're the one inciting those feelings! You're gonna blow the whole deal if you keep that up!"
Icy leaned further forward and braced both hands on the edge of the coffee table.
"And I'm telling you this girl already has 'strong feelings of attraction' for me! She's had them ever since Theorbella."
Darcy blinked and stared at the ice witch in confusion.
"Theorbella? What're you talking about?"
Icy's glare faded to a puzzled frown as she sat up straighter.
"Theorbella. You remember. Two years ago? We were battling the Winx Club? I got zapped by one of Darkar's spells and disappeared for nearly two weeks along with Layla? Surely I told you guys where we both wound up?"
Darcy's look said she was still drawing a blank.
"Uh..."
Icy turned to their third member.
"Stormy, you remember, right?"
The storm witch rubbed the back of her head.
"Well, I kinda remember working for Darkar, but a lot of stuff from back then is still pretty fuzzy."
Icy leaned back against the back of the couch with an aggravated sigh and put her hand over her eyes. A moment later she pulled her hand away and looked at her sister witches.
"Alright. Evidently I'm the only one with any clear memories of that time. Probably because it affected me more than you two. I was trapped and powerless on a hostile dead planet with a broken leg and a fairy as my only companion. We wound up having to rely on each other in order to survive. By my estimation we were on that world for about 12 days. I figure I was unconscious for an entire day before I woke up from the initial fall, then we had to trek from where we were holed up to the nearest city to find supplies and shelter from the roving death machines, then we spent the next ten days resting, letting our limbs heal up and getting our strength back. Once we were ready we blew up the anti-magic generator that was suppressing our powers and portalled back to Magix. Neither one of us would have made it on our own. We had to depend on each other to survive. Some of the things we had to do... Well, let's just say that we both got really well acquainted with each other's naked bodies. Gods, I would have loved to have banged her back then."
Darcy and Stormy looked at each other in amazement. If Icy had told them this before, the potion that erased their memories must have done a very good job of wiping it from their minds. Stormy looked back at Icy.
"So why didn't ya? Wasn't anybody else around. You coulda done it and nobody else would be the wiser."
Icy frowned at her.
"Are you kidding? She's a fairy! You know how big they are on principles and crap. After what I did to her precious pixies she must have hated my guts. I could tell she wanted me like I wanted her, but there was no way she was ever going to make a move with a hate like that, and if I'd have tried anything she'd have flipped out on me. Since we had to work together to stay alive I couldn't afford to risk alienating her like that."
Darcy leaned toward her a little, her expression inscrutable.
"But now we've been forgiven. Everybody thinks we don't remember anything we've done anymore. It's like we're starting over with a blank slate."
Icy grinned at her.
"Even better, she thinks she's got an opportunity to 'give me some better options'. She thinks she can convert me. It's the perfect scam, the perfect opportunity to take advantage of our situation to spread a little mayhem."
Darcy's eyes narrowed.
"And get the girl you've been secretly lusting after to fall in love with you."
Icy gave an unconcerned shrug.
"A nice little side benefit, but the real score will be turning those annoying fairy brats against each other. Eheh. And the best part is they'll think it's all their own fault they fell apart. We won't even get the blame for it."
Stormy grinned at her with dark admiration.
"Nice. So what happened after you got out of the water?"
It took Icy a moment to realize what the storm witch was talking about.
"Huh? Oh, you mean today. The pansy asked me to put my clothes back on so we could talk. So I did, right there in front of her. Even got her to help me put my hair back up. Then we talked for a bit. That's when she said that bit about giving me some other options to think about. I got bored with that kind of talk, so I kissed her again. She doesn't seem to wanna talk so much after I do that."
Darcy actually smirked at that.
"Gee, I can't imagine why not."
Icy put her arms back up on the back of the couch.
"Anyway, she ran off after that and I decided to walk home. Good thing I did too, because a little while later she came running along with tears streaming down her face. Would have run right into Gloomywood forest if I hadn't stopped her."
Stormy gave her a baffled look.
"Why didn't you just let her?"
Icy waved that suggestion off.
"If she'd have survived somehow she might have recalled seeing me in passing and wondered why I didn't try to stop her. Anyway, the plan isn't to take out just one fairy, but to sow dissension amongst the entire group. Saving her from herself made me look good to her and to anyone who sides with her. It also feeds into her delusion that I can be converted. It was a small price to pay for the greater evil. Anyway, I took her back to Alfea, to 'make sure she got home safely'. You should have seen the looks on all those fairies' faces when I set her down right in the middle of their own courtyard. And Musa, I thought she was gonna gag when she had to thank me for looking after her friend. But the best part was when I kissed Layla goodbye and flew off with her waving up at me. Oh, if I could have gotten a picture of all those fairy mouths gaping open in shock! I almost cracked up laughing!"
Darcy's eyes lit up at hearing that.
"Ooo! That'll start the gossip mill going bigtime!"
Icy grinned back at her.
"Precisely! Even if the main plan fails, a little bit of scandal will still give those Winx brats plenty of problems for weeks to come."
Stormy grinned too.
"Awesome. So what's your next move?"
Icy fished in her cleavage with two fingers and pulled out the scrap of paper with Layla's cell phone number on it.
"The next move is to set up another play date. Got any recommendations Darce?"
Darcy rubbed her hands together in anticipation.
"Take her somewhere fun and maybe a little romantic, but not too private. Neutral ground, where she'll feel safe. Don't make a big thing of it. Just tell her you wanna spend a little time with her as friends."
Icy stroked her chin in thought.
"What do you recommend? A night club perhaps? Or maybe a movie?"
The enchantress shook her head.
"Not if it's gonna be just the two of you. That'd seem too much like a date and we want to avoid that this early on, especially after you've been pushing so hard to get a reaction."
Icy folded her arms and frowned at her ideas being shot down.
"Okay, then what?"
Darcy leaned back and tapped her chin thoughtfully as she stared at the ceiling.
"Something crowded and at least a little noisy would make for a relaxing atmosphere. A concert might work if you knew what sort of music she's into. Or maybe..."
Stormy jumped back into the conversation.
"Why not take her roller skating or something? That's crowded and noisy, and you already know she knows how to skate."
Icy grinned at her.
"That's perfect! You really are useful for something after all."
While Stormy glowered at Icy, Darcy got up and moved over to their dorm's computer terminal.
"I'll check online and see what's available, then you can call her and set it up."
Icy leaned back and grinned. With all three of them putting their heads together like this there was no way Layla could resist falling for her, and then she'd get exactly what she was after.
