Chapter 10:
Everything was getting serious now. Zim and Rad Na constructed that special pak we had talked about, and I worked on making a program that I hoped would delete the original personalities of the Control Brains. Of course, the only thing I really had to work with was the systems that allowed people to download their personalities into their ships/computers, so I wasn't 100% sure it'd even work properly on the Brains. Still, there was no going back now. Once the pak was fully finished, we put in my program, a copy of my personality (carefully reduced to make sure I didn't have a repeat of the disaster I had with Tak's old ship) and the memories of Zim, Skoodge, Tak, and even Gaz. We were ready to put everything in my plan into motion. In fact, I'd already had Tak and Gaz start moving the fleet into position. Dad would stay behind on Voon and help run the city while we were gone. Everything was down to the wire now.
I was having the fleet move in about as close to Irk as I could get them before the Irkens could detect their presence. All our ships would be using cloaking and signal jamming technology, so that should hopefully keep the Irkens from detecting us. Zim, Skoodge and I would move all the way into Irken space in the small Shuvver ship. This would be small enough not to arouse any suspicion. Then we'd remotely take control of the Massive's systems and put their weapons and movement system offline. Once we'd done that, we'd dock with them, hopefully before they realized what was going on, and then Skoodge and Zim would cut a path for me through the guards up to the main control deck. After we'd captured the Tallest and taken the ship, the Nirvana would move in to lead the fleet in the charge against the rest of the Irken Armada. Then, I'd leave the Armada to Tak, Gaz and Lard Nar. I'd be piloting the Massive down to the planet's surface to take control of the brains. Thankfully, the Massive's shields were so powerful that none of the other ships in the Armada would be able to dent us, and they'd be busy with our fleet besides. That was the plan anyways.
I stood aboard the Nirvana as we headed to the waiting point for the fleet. I was pacing around on the bridge, feeling anxious. Zim and Skoodge stood nearby, looking tense. Lard Nar stood off to the side, looking equally worried. He approached me and said, "Dib, I think you ought to give a speech to the troops. It'd be good for morale..." I nodded. It was a good idea of course, but I'd never really given a speech before, and I'd pretty much be winging it. I took a moment to gather my thoughts before nodding to Lard Nar. "Okay, Dib, I'm going to open up the communication channel now; all the ships in our fleet will see you and hear your words." "Okay, Lard Nar, I'm ready," I said with more confidence than I was feeling.
"Hello, everyone. It's me, Commander Dib. I just wanted to say to you all, that I'm proud of you all - proud of what you- we've done. We came together despite our different backgrounds and species, all for one singular cause. And even though I might die in the upcoming battle, I'm glad you chose me as your commander. If I should fall, you all must carry on. For even if we don't succeed the first time, we've planted the seeds of freedom for future generations! I'm pretty confident though; you all are strong and brave, and I have confidence in my plan! My plan should minimize casualties, on both sides! I'm hoping after we win, I can teach the Irkens to be decent, good people. I know many of you may balk at that idea, but I believe it can be done. Please have faith in me. I know that together, we can make all our dreams come true. I know we can do it..." I started feeling rather teary-eyed as the weight of what we were about to do sunk in. "I'm just, I'm proud of you all, and I - I love you guys..." I said, my voice choking up a bit at the end. Despite this, I smiled and waved at the screen. "Good luck, everyone!" I said in the most confident voice I could muster. Everyone on-board the Nirvana cheered. "God that sucked," I said to myself after the communication line had been terminated. "I don't think so. It was a good speech," Lard Nar said, "because it was honest and heart-felt." "Well, thanks," I replied. "We have a few hours before we reach the waiting point, so you can rest until then," Lard Nar informed me. I nodded and walked towards the back-rooms. I noticed that Zim and Skoodge followed me.
"Hey Dib," Zim said, "I know what I want to do with the few hours we have left before we get there." I shot him a questioning look. "I think we should bond one last time, in case it IS our last time..." he said. I smiled at him and Skoodge; "That seems like a good idea. What do you say, Skoodge?" He looked quite solemn as he nodded. "Dib, sir," he said, "I hope I can die for you..." I frowned. "Skoodge, I'd rather you live for me!" I exclaimed. "Oh, Dib, he's giving you one of the strongest traditional complements that an Irken can give his commander. It's only given to the most beloved of commanders..." I smiled and pulled Skoodge close into a tight hug. "Thank you, Skoodge, but I really don't want you to die. I need your help later to run Irk!" "I love you, sir," he whispered. "I love you too," I replied, squeezing him tight. As soon as I let him go, I pulled Zim into a similar hug.
We headed back to our bedroom. We all slowly pulled our clothes off, it seemed that words weren't needed right now. I sat down on the bed, and Skoodge crawled up into my lap, nearly knocking me over. I kissed him softly on the base of the antenna, and he sighed and leaned back into me. Zim sat down next to me, and I turned and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. I wiggled out of Skoodge's grasp and positioned myself on my back underneath the blankets. My little alien lovers followed my lead, with Skoodge settling on one side and Zim on the other. "I love you both; I hope you know that..." I whispered. "Of course we do," Zim said. I turned to Skoodge, who's cute round eyes held such love in them, he didn't even need to say anything. I reached down with both hands, grasping both their erections. I began stroking in soft, slow motions. Zim sighed and nuzzled into me. I felt Skoodge's hand slide over my chest before finally settling on my own erection, hesitantly touching. Soon I felt Zim's hand join his. We stroked ourselves to excitement; I could feel both them rubbing up and down my shaft, sometimes adding their own natural lubricants to moisten me, sometimes gently fondling my balls. It was all so simultaneously arousing and yet relaxing, the stroking, the rubbing, the bodies pressed so close together, our heated sighs and soft moans. Soon, I felt the time was right and I stilled my hands. They noticed my change in behavior and follow suit, waiting for my next move. I rolled onto my side, towards Skoodge. I patted him on the thigh, and he got the hint and rolled onto his side, facing away from me. I pressed the tip of my moistened erection to Skoodge's entrance, just barely breaching the tight ring of muscles. Skoodge gasped out loud. I slowly slid myself all the way in, and Skoodge cried out softly. "Are you okay?" I asked softly. "Yeah, I'm great..." he replied. I turned my face back to Zim, who was staring intently back at me. I flicked my eyes downward and he seemed to understand as I felt his length pressing at my entrance. I smiled and gave him a very small nod before turning back around. I settled down, relaxing even as I was buried in Skoodge. I felt Zim pressing into me, and I sighed; the dual stimulation was almost too much. Soon, though, I couldn't resist the urge to move any longer, and began slowly thrusting into Skoodge, my hands, stroking at his length. I could feel Zim start to thrust into me as well. At first, our movements were clumsy and awkward, but we soon settled into a fluid rhythm. The intensity of being pressed between those two warm bodies, both penetrating and being penetrated, all got to be too much, and I shuddered and came with a loud wordless cry. Skoodge came almost a second later, filling my hand with his warm essence. Zim thrust a few more times before I felt him shudder against me, his seed filling my passage. We lay there panting, our combined warmth feeling like more to me than just a description of mere temperature. I fully understood now why Zim always referred to this act as "bonding". We slept after that, utterly content and satisfied, not even bothering to pull out of one another; we were one.
______________________________________________________________All too soon, we had arrived at the waiting point, and it was time for Zim, Skoodge and I to head off alone in the Shuvver. Ours was truly the most dangerous portion of the mission since we'd be pretty vulnerable on our own. Nevertheless, it was necessary if we didn't want to blow our cover. I bid farewell to the Resisty crew; poor Pooky seemed to be crying. Zim and Skoodge weren't as sentimental as they headed into the Shuvver after a mere wave. Prillia and Ixane both bowed to me as I left. "Good luck, Commander!" Lard Nar yelled as I made my exit.
I joined my lovers in the Shuvver and we headed out toward Irk. As soon as we got close to the planet, I could see the Massive, just hovering in an orbit around the planet. The many smaller ships of the Armada were nestled around it like bees around their Queen. We headed in closer and no one paid us any attention. Good, it was going well so far. We moved in very close to the Massive and Zim stopped the ship. We bobbed along with countless other ships as no one seemed to take any notice of us at all. "Okay, guys, time for me to hack into the core of the ship. I'll open the Massive's docking bay right after the weapons and movement systems are offline, then as soon as I give the go ahead, you dock the ship in there as quickly as you can!" Zim nodded. "Okay, one more thing, guys, you know that as soon as we get into their ship, we'll likely meet some resistance from the soldiers on-board. I need you guys to get to the bridge and capture the Tallest. If I get hit and don't make it, DO NOT STOP! Keep going without me and accomplish the mission!" Skoodge looked so sad, but he nodded his assent. "Don't worry, I won't stop as long as I still draw breath," Zim said grimly. "Okay, here I go!" I said as I whipped out my laptop. I commenced hacking into the core; it was rather pathetic how few protections the Tallest had even bothered to set up. Soon, I had done it! Weapons and movement offline, and the docking back door was sliding open! "Okay, Zim, fly us in there!"
Zim grabbed the control stick, and I gripped the seat as we whipped around quickly into the open docking bay. As soon as we were in, I closed the docking bay doors behind us. So far, so good. I readied my blaster rifle and my Zinger stick. Zim and Skoodge did the same. All three of us were also wearing power armor which would deflect laser blasts. Most of the Irkens on board would surely resort to their Zingers once they realized we had power armor, and many of them probably had such armor themselves, at the very least the high-ranking officials would, so my blaster would be of limited usefulness. My skills with the staff weapon were decent, but limited, so Zim and Skoodge would stand ahead of me, protecting me on the path to the bridge. The Zingers had an electric shock mechanism on the sides of the end that could knock people out, but if you pushed a button then the sharp blade would extend out of the middle. I hoped that we could just knock them out, but we'd probably have to kill a few if they wouldn't go down. I took a deep breath, then opened the door to the Shuvver.
There were panicked Irkens running about in the docking bay, obviously confused as to what was going on. I could tell from their height that they were low-level grunts and likely wouldn't have any power armor. "Zim, Skoodge, just knock these out!" I yelled to them. Then we got to work zapping these poor little workers. Many of them didn't even have time to understand what was happening and mount a proper resistance against us before they were knocked out. Soon, we had cleared the entire docking bay. Now, onto the rest of the corridors on the way to the bridge. We worked our way through the hallways, knocking out lower-leveled workers before we finally encountered some proper soldiers. We extended our blades just to be on the safe side. We managed to knock a few out before rounding a corner and encountering what appeared to be a sub commander. I fired off a few rounds of my rifle at him, but he clearly had power armor on. Zim stabbed him through the chest with his blade and he shrieked as he fell to the ground. We made our way further in, encountering more and more hostile resistance as they began to understand that they were under attack. Eventually, we made our way to the bridge, where Tallest Red and Purple were panicking. "We're under attack somehow!" one of the officers yelled at their Tallest. "Where is it coming from?!" Tallest Red yelled in confusion. "Right here!" I said as I ran up to him and knocked him out cold with a blast of electricity from my staff. "Red!" Purple yelled as he bent low to grab at his partner. "Sorry," I said, before I knocked him out too. The crew of the bridge seemed absolutely stunned for a second before they all started yelling at once and trying to attack us. However, without their leaders to command them they were pretty disorganized and easy to pick off. We made short work of them pretty quickly.
Once we'd gotten control of the bridge, I called Lard Nar on the Nirvana using my communicator. "Hey, Lard Nar, we've successfully captured the bridge! Signal Tak and Gaz to move the fleet in and engage the rest of the Armada! As for you, I need you to dock the Nirvana alongside the Massive and beam aboard. I sure could use your help rounding up the rest of the stray crew members." "Alright, good job, Commander Dib! We're coming!" Lard Nar responded before signing off. I waited patiently for Lard Nar to arrive. It was rather pathetic how little the rest of the Armada was doing. It seemed that they weren't even aware that the Massive had been taken over. It made sense that they wouldn't know about it since I managed to get the bridge under control before the Tallest could even send out a distress signal. A few soldiers were entering the bridge occasionally to try to figure out what had happened, but Zim and Skoodge easily dispatched them while I waited for Lard Nar. Soon enough, Lard Nar called me. "Commander, we've beamed into the docking bay, but all the soldiers seem to be incapacitated. There's literally no resistance here in this room at all!" "Don't relax just yet, there's probably still soldiers lurking about in other parts of the ship. Also, please tell me you didn't leave the Nirvana completely empty and unguarded." "Oh, no sir, half the crew is still there. I only brought the people who are proficient in hand to hand combat with me." "Good," I responded, "What I want you to do is go around the rest of the ship and mop up any remaining soldiers. Avoid casualties if you can. Gather up all the knocked out people once you're done and place them all in the ship's prison cells.
I glanced out the viewport and saw that our fleet had began engaging the rest of the Armada. I raised the beam jammer shields on the Massive so that no one could beam aboard and I made sure the docking bay door was shut tight. The Armada wouldn't fire on their own flagship and even if they did, they'd never be able to pierce our shields. I could feel the ship rock as we were hit with a few stray blasts from the intense battle going on outside but we were still good. "Okay, Zim, Skoodge, help me round up all the unconscious people on the bridge. We're going to place them in the prison cells to keep them out of trouble in case they wake up." Zim and Skoodge did as I asked, carrying people out of the hallways and down to the cell blocks. I bent down to grab the Tallest myself. I noted that they had fallen in such a way that it looked like they were hugging each other. I felt a strong desire not to kill them, irrational though it was. I knew it was probably for the best to get rid of the current leaders, but I just couldn't help but feel some pity for them. Zim and Skoodge returned from their most recent trip to the cell blocks. "Hey, Zim, put these two in their own separate cell, okay?" Zim snorted down at them. "Dib, you should really just kill those two. Having them around will just be a threat to your rule later." "No, Zim, I'm not ready to kill them!" "Why not?" he asked. "Because... I feel like maybe they can be saved..." Zim shot me a very skeptical look. "If that's your wish, Commander, then I'll place them in a cell," he said. I nodded and Zim complied, picking up Red first and roughly hauling him out.
My communicator beeped and I answered it. "Commander Dib, we've flushed everyone out and rounded them all up!" Lard Nar said. "Are you sure you didn't miss anywhere?" I asked. "Yes, I'm positive. We searched every nook and cranny of this ship!" "Good, then I'll be taking us down to the planet to confront the Brains. Just finish getting everyone placed safely into the holding cells." "Okay, sir, will do!" he said before hanging up.
I went over to the control panel and set a course for the Control Brains' chamber on the planet. With this fast ship, we'd be there very quickly. Once we'd arrived, I left Lard Nar and crew to keep the Massive under control, while Zim, Skoodge and I would descend into the lair of the Control Brains. The halls on the way down were populated by some guards, but not as many as you'd expect for such an important room. It seemed the Irkens were a little too arrogant in thinking that no one would ever make it this far. Zim and Skoodge easily dispatched the confused, unprepared guards who were present and we finally entered into the underground chamber of the Brains. I immediately ran for the closest Brain there, hooking the special pak into one of it's many mechanical upload tentacles. It shrieked and twitched before going limp. Good, it seemed that my program was working! Unfortunately, the second Brain was not so incapacitated and it immediately began attacking by lashing it's many sharp mechanical tentacles at us. "Zim! Skoodge!" I yelled. "Already on it!" Zim yelled back as he swatted a tentacle away from him with his staff. Skoodge ran forward, pushing me out of the way just as a tentacle went whizzing past. Unfortunately, this knocked the special pak free from the upload tentacle and I made a desperate dive for it. I had to hurry before the Brain regained its senses! I grabbed it and shoved it back in, and the twitching brain once again went limp. However, this set us back as now the personality download would have to restart. I held tight to the special pak and the tentacle to make sure they didn't get severed again. An angry tentacle from the other Brain whipped in my direction and I dodged and rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding it, before I got back on my feet. Zim and Skoodge had already managed to cut off several of the rampaging Brain's tentacles, so it was only a matter of time before we subdued it too. "Hang in there, guys! We're gonna win!" I yelled.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my chest and saw the tip of a tentacle. I gasped in shock as pools of red seeped down over my hands, but I kept a firm grip on the special pak. Soon, though, I felt dizzy and weak, and fell to the ground, cradling the pak in my arms. Everything sounded oddly dulled right now, and even the pain seemed almost far away somehow. From my vantage point, I saw Zim's anguished face as he screamed at me. I couldn't quite understand what he was saying, though. I saw Skoodge shriek, his face twisted into rage and fury like I've never seen on his sweet features before. He leapt onto the fighting Control Brain, and stabbed it over and over again in it's many eyes. I tried to tell him to stop, that my program would subdue it soon, but every time I opened my mouth I couldn't seem to form words. My eyes felt so heavy, I couldn't hold them open much longer. I looked down at the pools of blood around me, like the spreading petals of a dark rose... I cradled the pak to me as blackness descended...
__________________________________________________________________I was floating in a sea of darkness and beautiful red fluttering flowers. I watched the twisting wisps of red as they undulated into the shapes of delicate blooms. It reminded me of something or somewhere or sometime, but I couldn't quite recall... Oh well, it didn't matter anymore. Nothing mattered here. Darkness... Peace... Isn't this what I've always wanted? A place free from pain or suffering... Free from the cruelty of the world - my nirvana... Nothing to miss, no one to miss me. Right? Or was there something important? I couldn't quite remember it... No, but it was so nice here, I could just stay forever...
"NO!" I heard a voice scream out, breaking me out of my dream. That voice! "I won't leave! What if he wakes up and I'm not here!?" the angry-sounding voice said. The voice, it seemed familiar; I think...it belonged to someone important to me... "You need to get some rest and eat something..." another voice said. "I said NO! I'm not leaving his side!" the first voice replied sharply. I could hear a soft snuffling sound in the background, as though someone were crying softly. "Please don't fight..." the crying voice said gently. I shook off the last vestiges of the dream and suddenly, everything came back to me. I blinked my eyes open, only to shut them quickly against the glare of the light. I opened them again, a bit more tentatively this time. Once my eyes adjusted to the light I could make out Zim's tired-looking face as he argued with Lard Nar, who was trying to offer him food. Skoodge was sitting in the corner, crying softly. Some of the Resisty Crew seemed to be here as well; I could see Prillia and Ixane sitting in the chair next to Skoodge, gently patting his hand trying to comfort him. From what I could tell, it looked like I was in some sort of hospital or medical room.
"You're insufferably stubborn!" Lard Nar said irritably. "NO!" Zim yelled again, his tone like a petulant four year old. "Guys, stop fighting, he's awake!" Pooky said happily. It seemed he had been hovering around my head and I hadn't noticed. It figures. Zim rushed over to my bedside, peering down at me. "DIB!" he said loudly. "Skoodge, sweetie, stop crying; he's awake now," I heard Ixane say gently in the background. I tried to talk, but all that came out was a cough as first. My mouth felt awfully dry. Lard Nar pressed a glass of water to my lips, and I drank a small sip of it, a few drops spilling down my chin due to the awkward angle. "Hey, guys," I said hoarsely. "Dib, Dib, I love you! I love you..." Zim said frantically. "I know, Zim, I know that..." I said in a whisper. I coughed again, trying to clear my throat so I could speak a bit better. Lard Nar offered me more water, which helped. "What happened? Did we win?" I asked. Zim smiled brightly now. "Yes, Dib, we won so awesomely! The remaining Brain now has your personality in it, and has already started enacting your plans. We already sent out the wave of our memories, and everyone's felt it. There are even some Irkens waiting outside who already feel loyal to you and hope you recover!" "Remaining Brain?' I questioned. "Eh, yeah, Skoodge killed the female brain, now only the male remains..." Zim said, looking downwards. "Is that enough?" I asked. "Yes, yes, it should be fine. The database is intact, and the other sub-brains have already synced to the remaining Control Brain, so everything should be fine," Zim replied. Just then, Skoodge pushed past Zim and approached me. "Are you really alive, sir?" he said in a rough voice; it was apparent that he'd been crying for some time. "Yes, I'm alive, otherwise I wouldn't be feeling so shitty," I said to him with a smile. "Sir, I'm very sorry about killing the other Control Brain. I just, I saw all the blood coming from your chest, and I-I thought you might be dead, and I just, I've never been so angry in my life..." he said. "Ah, yes," Lard Nar said, "You were pierced in the chest by a tentacle, it just barely missed your heart, but hit one of your lungs. You probably would've died if you hadn't been wearing that little Pak Zim made for you before." "Am I going to be okay now?" "Yes, you should be," Lard Nar replied, "Now that you're awake it's a very good sign for your full recovery." "How long was I out?" "Two whole days!" Zim replied before Lard Nar could answer.
Just then, the door opened and a small female Irken, only three feet tall maybe, edged her way in. "You're not supposed to be in here!" Zim shouted. "Please, I want to see him..." she said timidly. I struggled to sit up, my chest was aching dully but it wasn't so bad. "Hey," I said to the little Irken, "who are you?" "Um, Commander Dib, sir, my name is Cee. I just wanted to say that I was so surprised when I felt your memories. I've never felt a bond so strong, and I feel that you truly care about us. I believe you'll be a great leader for us, and I pledge my loyalty to you." She gave a little salute. "Oh, look at you! You're so cute!" I exclaimed. Perhaps the painkillers I was undoubtedly on were messing with my higher cognitive abilities, but that was the first thing that popped into my head to say. She blushed a little purple color in her cheeks. "Thank you, sir," she said sweetly. "Okay, he needs his rest, get out of here," Zim said huffily as he shooed her out the door.
"Greetings to you all, my name is Dib. As you all know, you are now a conquered peoples. Some of you might be thinking that I've come to subjugate you, or exterminate you in response to your past crimes against others. While those past crimes are regrettable and inexcusable, and the slaves you've taken will be freed, that is not what I've come to do. I've come to lead you in the hopes that you all can learn to be a better people. I envision a society that's freer than it is now, one where you all can be happy and prosperous, one where you can learn to live in peace with your many inter-stellar neighbors, one where each of you can achieve success based on your own merits despite your height." I heard an audible gasp and much whispering after that statement. I continued, "Just give me a chance, and I can prove to you that I will be a kind, gracious, and generous leader. I truly care about you all, and only wish for the best for you. You've all felt my memories, and thus should feel the truth in my words. Thank you." I stepped down from the podium after that, and after a moment of silence, the crowd erupted in cheering. The shortest Irkens, especially, seemed to have a look of hope in their eyes.
It seemed that my speech had swayed the hearts of the people, as I was welcomed back to the Tallest Tower as a hero. I still kept a loyal guard with me in case there was any lingering opposition, but it seemed that opposition was quite minimal. I decided to keep the title of Commander instead of taking the term "Tallest" to emphasize my new shift to a merit-based social system instead of a height-based one. Of course, I knew that social change needed to happen slowly and gradually so as not to rock the people too much, but my Brain had already put into action some slow, gradual long-term plans, including fairer wages for shorter Irkens, a slow-down on the smeet production since they wouldn't be dying in battle anymore and thus didn't need such a huge population production, new jobs to help encourage the arts, and the abolition of height-based requirements for many different jobs. I didn't expect them to immediately accept these changes without fuss, but I knew that given time they would come to see how much better things could be for them my way. There was just one more loose end to take care of...
After the speech was over and everything had died down, I took Zim and Skoodge with me down to a prison cell where I was holding Tallest Red and Purple. I had since released the other prisoners but I had held onto them because I wasn't sure whether they'd join me or not. Zim was still of the opinion that they should be killed, but I hoped they could be swayed to my side. I knew they had seen the memories we had sent out, and had watched my speech. I did wonder how they felt about me. I headed down the halls to their cell. I had had the guards provide them with plenty of food and water, and tried to make them comfortable over the past couple days they had been there. I opened up the prison cell, and stood in the doorway, Zim entered past me, holding a weapon at the ready. Red and Purple were cowering in the corner of the cell, and Purple was crying profusely. They had long since been divested of their uncomfortable corset-like devices that Tallest traditionally wore and were dressed in more simple Irken garb. "I don't want to die," Purple sobbed out. "Hush," Red said to him, gently stroking his back as he spoke, "Just be brave and accept your death honorably. Honestly, you're embarrassing me..." Purple didn't respond to him and just cried more.
"I don't intend to kill you," I said to them. Purple cried even louder at that, burying his head in Red's chest. Red turned to me with a begging expression in his eyes, "Please, sir, I beg you, you can torture me as long as you want, but please kill him quickly. He's fragile and weak, you see. Please..." "No, I don't want to die.." Purple cried out between his gasping sobs. "Shut up," Red chided, "I'm trying to help you, you idiot, so you won't have to suffer too long..." He gently stroked his fingers across Purple's face, who just kept crying. "Hey, listen," I said to them in a comforting voice, "I don't want to kill you or torture you." "It'd be better just to kill them," Zim cut in. "NO," I said adamantly. Red's curiosity seemed peaked now as he gave me a questioning look. "What do you intend to do with us? Make us your slaves?" he asked. "No, nothing of the sort," I said to him, "I want to offer you a choice. If you can learn to live in my new society peacefully and accept me as your leader, I'll let you go. You'll be free to live your lives the same as any other Irken citizen but you'll need to get a new job. Of course, if you'd rather choose death, then I'll make it as quick and painless as possible, and you're memories will be added to the database, and your remains treated with dignity. You can choose to live a happy life, if you're able to..." Red nodded, but Purple wouldn't stop sobbing uncontrollably. "You're offer is very gracious," Red said, "but he's upset and not really in a position to consider anything right now, so I ask if you'll allow us some time to think about it." "Sure," I said, "I'll come back in a couple days to check up on you guys." With that, I shut and locked the door and made my way out of the prison.
True to my word, I returned after a few days had passed. Purple was much more composed this time, even though he still looked a bit fearful when he saw me. "So, what's your answer?" I asked them. "We- I was wondering what the specific conditions to your offer are," Red asked me. "Well, you'd have to live peacefully under my rule and not keep trying to kill me and stuff," I said. Red nodded as though this were pretty obvious. "And, the second thing, is that you don't ever hit Purple again." Both of them looked genuinely baffled at this. "Huh? Why's that?" Red asked. "I want you guys to be happy under my rule, and you'll be much happier if you learn to work out your arguments more constructively." They both looked at me with utter confusion evident on their faces. "Don't worry," I said, "you'll understand and thank me some day. So, what'll it be?" They both turned and looked each other in the eye before Red spoke, "We accept your generous offer." "And what about you, Purple, how do you feel?" He looked up at me hesitantly. "Yes, sir, I accept too. You promise you're not going to torture me?" I smiled reassuringly at him, "Yes, I promise. I'll remove you guys in a few days, and you'll be under probationary status. That means you'll be under house arrest for a few months until I'm sure you're loyal and adjusting okay." "Why don't you just keep us here?" Red asked. I laughed, "Because you guys need a shower and some nice soft beds to sleep in, silly!" He looked at me as though I'd suddenly sprouted a second head. "Okay guys, I'll see you later once I've gotten your new rooms ready! Bye for now!"
I decided after that to move them into a room in the Tallest Tower, or the 'Palace' as I was now calling it. Zim questioned the safety of letting them live so close to me, but I wasn't worried since I had a guard with me at all times. Besides, once I had shown them how nicely they'd be treated, they didn't seem to want to rebel at all. I made sure that they were comfortably accommodated and well fed, and I gave them a job as my personal advisors. This was more of an opportunity to explain to them why I was making the decisions I was than anything else, and I found that after I had carefully explained my thoughts on things with them, they ended up agreeing with me more often than not. I even had some Irken surgeons give them both some new bionic thumbs. That whole finger-removal ceremony was stupid anyways. In addition to that, I had Mr. Dwicky give them counseling on their relationship so Red could learn to be less abusive in the way he handled interpersonal conflict with his partner. Dad had moved here too, of course, to be with me after he got word of my victory.
I found that the Irken people in general were adapting to my reign fairly smoothly, and many of them even seemed to be quite fond of me now. I knew the people on Voon missed me but I needed to stay here to lead the Irkens. Lard Nar had chosen to return to Voon to re-assume his role of leader for them and I knew they were in good hands. Besides, it's not like I'd never visit them again someday. Tak and Gaz had joined me here on Irk and I had put them in charge of the now greatly reduced military. It seemed that everything was going as well as it could for now!
____________________________________________________________Five years have passed since that fateful day when I'd taken over Irk. Overall, the society was doing very well and the people were flourishing. Any people who still opposed me must be few and far between because the majority seemed enthusiastically loyal now. I'm sure the Irken hive-mind that was the database had helped them adjust more quickly to the change than a human society could have. As such, I was finally taking a breather and holding a small party for my closest friends and family this night; even my friends on Voon were traveling here to visit me.
I stood in the big auditorium room and watched as people milled about talking. There were nice big buffet tables serving a variety of food so that anyone could enjoy it. The core Resisty members were all here, along with my friends and family. I spotted Red and Purple eating some donuts from the buffet table. Red even broke his donut in half and offered the piece to Purple, who accepted it with a smile. I walked over to them. "Are you guys doing okay?" "Yeah, we're doing great. These donuts are awesome!" Red said enthusiastically. "Hey, would you get me some punch?" Purple asked him. "Sure, no problem," Red replied as he walked off towards the punch bowl. Purple turned to me; "You know what, you were right when you said I'd thank you some day. Thank you so much! Red's so much nicer to me now; we get along great now!" I smiled; "See, I told you! I'm really happy for you..." Red returned with their punch and I decided to catch up with some other people.
I noted Zim was wearing a nice tux of human design, and he looked so sharp! Skoodge was wearing a little tux of his own, and he looked pretty cute too! I noted Gaz and Tak come into the room. Gaz was wearing a black dress, and Tak was wearing a purple dress! She even had some high heels on, which she appeared to be dangerously tottering forward on. She huffed as she got irritated with them, taking them off. She then hurled the shoes across the room in irritation, where they smacked into Pooky who fell into the punch bowl. "I'm okay!" he called out. I spotted Gir off the side; he was supposed to be serving drinks, but he appeared to be just drinking most of them himself. He scooped Pooky out of the punch bowl and attempted to serve him in a glass to Spleenk. Ha ha, that silly robot...
I headed over to talk to Dad and Mr. Dwicky. "Hey guys, how's it going?" I asked them. "Oh, we're great, son! You've really been doing a good job, we're proud of you!" Dad said. "Yes, we certainly are! This is a great party!" Mr. Dwicky said. "Oh, let me do my ventriloquism!" Dad said enthusiastically as he whipped out the tiny puppet version of himself. "That's great, Dad!" I said as I excused myself before I was forced to suffer another one of his ventriloquism acts. I moved over to check on Zim and Skoodge, who were both stuffing their faces with food from the buffet table. Zim glanced over at my Dad's puppet. "I wish I had a tiny slave version of myself," he said. I just laughed at that. "You're so silly, Zim; that's one of the many reasons I love you!" I said as I placed a small kiss on his head. "Ooh, me too!" Skoodge said happily, so I placed a kiss on his head too.
I moved away from them, just observing the room. Little Dee Bee had grown considerably quickly in the six years time since he was born, and now was the equivalent of a teen, or so Lard Nar had told me. I noted that he was wearing one of my old blue smiley shirts. I had given the old shirt (from when I was just eleven) to him about a year ago since I was too big to wear it anymore. He and the small Irken named Cee seemed to be getting along very well. Cee even had a little purplish blush on her cheeks as they talked. Hmm... Maybe there was a love connection there! I waved to them. "Hey Uncle Dib!" Dee Bee said as he waved back cheerfully. Cee smiled at me and waved as well. Dee Bee suddenly excused himself from Cee and pulled me off to the side of the room. "Hey Dib," he whispered conspiratorially to me, "I met this Irken girl and I like her... Do you think we could make it work if we were a couple?" "Oh, you mean Cee?" I said with a smile. "Shhh!" he hushed me frantically. "Hey, listen," I said, "this is the best advice I can possibly give you. You and her are from different cultures, and it can always be challenging to date someone from a different culture. Communication is key here. If you guys have a disagreement, it's important that you calmly talk it out together. She's going to have a certain idea of what's good and right, and you're probably going to have a different idea. What matters is that you work it out together. If you can both do that, then you can succeed, but if it doesn't work out, then that's okay too. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be. No pressure, alright?" Dee Bee seemed to be absorbing everything I had said, his eyes wide. "Thanks, Uncle Dib," he replied, "You always give the best advice!" "Alright then, get back to your new girlfriend!" I said with a chuckle. "Hey!" he protested as he walked away, "She's not my girlfriend!" Then he smiled, turning back to me as he called out, "Yet!" I smiled and winked at him as he hurried back to where Cee was standing. I chuckled to myself; those two would be just fine. I left the side of the room to go check out everyone else after that.
Mooshy and Spoopty were chatting with Lard Nar and Rad Na on the other side of the room. From the snippets of their conversation I could make out, they seemed to be amazed at how much progress we had truly made over the years. Indeed, this scene would've been inconceivable just six years earlier. They then turned their attention to the corner and stared awkwardly. I looked over there; Tak and Gaz were making out in the corner. It figures! I walked over to them to say hello. "Hey guys, how are you all doing?" "Oh, we're great," Lard Nar answered. "Have you guys noticed who Dee Bee is talking to?" I asked. "Yes, we have," Rad Na replied, "it looks like they really like each other." "Does that bother you?" I asked cautiously. "Nope!" Lard Nar replied, "I figure that if you and Zim and Skoodge can successfully love each other, then Dee Bee can love whoever he wants." "Yes, not to mention that Tak and Gaz seem to be getting along very well too," Mooshy said pointedly. "Yeah," Spoopty agreed as he stared at their very public make-out session. I chuckled, "Oh, don't mind them, guys..." "Anyway," Rad Na said, "I believe that our son should be free to fall in love with whoever he wants, without prejudice, just as you have. Maybe he'll get to liking that little Irken female, or maybe he'll choose someone else. Either way, we want to be supportive." Rad Na couldn't have known how much that statement meant to me, especially after all the time I'd spent on Earth being tormented by my peers just for being gay. Heh, I bet being in a gay polyamorous relationship with two aliens would really blow their tiny minds! "Thanks, guys, this means a lot to me. It's a sign that our people are truly making progress," I said to them. They smiled and nodded. I talked to them a bit more before excusing myself to move on..
I stood back in the center of the room now, just taking it all in. Everyone was talking and laughing and the whole night seemed perfect. As the night wound on, I felt a bit tired so I headed out onto the balcony for a some quiet and fresh air. Of course, I had filled this balcony like all the others on my floor of the palace with pots of flowers, just like Skoodge had requested so many years ago... I even had a roof garden on top of the tower now. This had helped to take some of the sting out of having to dismantle and pack up our beautiful old house on Voon a couple years ago... I stood looking out over the Irken city with its dotted lights that looked like a sea of stars. Truly everyone seemed happy now... I heard someone approach me from behind. "Hey, Dib, what are you doing out here?" Zim asked me. "Oh, I'm just getting a bit of fresh air," I answered. We stood together in amiable silence for a minute or two before I spoke up. "You know what?" I said to him, "I can't believe we actually did it, but here we are!" Zim walked up next to me near the balcony railing. "I know what you mean, Dib. It all feels so surreal sometimes. Do you think this peace and happiness will last?" I thought for a minute. The future wasn't set in stone and anything could happen... "I don't know for sure, Zim; nothing lasts forever, but we have at least sown the seeds of peace for the coming generations to continue. Nothing is guaranteed in life, but I have hope for the future! For now, though, we should just enjoy ourselves, because life is good!"
___________________________________________________________________________THE END, FINALLY!
Author Notes: In case you don't know, the Tallest have their thumbs chopped off in a ceremony once they become Tallest. This is canon from the show's creators. Anyway, as Dib said, "nothing lasts forever", and thus this story too must come to an end, so I've decided to end this story on a positive note. I hope you enjoyed my hideously long story. Thanks for reading! Oh, and if you'd like to read a short little one-shot with Purple/Red in it, check out my side-story, "You'll Thank Me Someday". In addition, there's a Ch. 11 bonus chapter on the end of this story that contains some rather nice deleted scenes.
