Some months later…
I have integrated into this group of mechs rather well considering my discomfort at first. I have always been a bit leery of men in my human life and it took this long to finally warm up to the fact that mechs weren't going to jump me and rape me nor do anything against my wishes. Though when the topic of the purpose of mistletoe came up when we happened to be all relaxing and watching a human Christmas special along with the topic of the purpose of kissing followed right after… I was stumped for a bit on how exactly to reply.
"Well… mistletoe is to draw someone over to kiss you. Hopefully someone that you like and likes you. As for kissing, which is what they do under the mistletoe, it's a sign of affection. Though it's not just for under the mistletoe, you could do it anytime and anywhere so long as the participants are comfortable with the location and who's around at the time." I explained and looked around to see a few open mouths and a heard a bit of whispering going on.
Jazz piped up, "Say could you maybe coach a couple of us so we get how to kiss right cuz it looks like fun to me."
I smiled a bit at him, "I suppose I could, go pick someone out, though I have a feeling who it will be." I could see Prowl noticeably start to edge toward the door, but Jazz was quick to cut him off. Much to my amusement there was cheering from the twins and clapping from the minibots to encourage Prowl on.
Jazz tugged him closer to where I was sitting and made him sit down nearby, then Jazz sat on his lap with his legs to either side of Prowl's, "You know they already all know we are together so relax." he cooed to Prowl.
I observed Prowl frown a hint, door wings shifting backward slightly. I was starting to pick up on what the movements meant, but this was a new one. "Well now that you two are close how about you try the lips to lips kiss you saw in that scene. You cock your head slightly off to one side, the partner going the opposite direction. Then you lean in and press your lips to his, your mouth may be slightly open or fully closed, though the latter gives you more movement and can work you up into a French kiss, which is adding your tongue to things."
Jazz grinned to the instructions, "I like the sound of that." placing his hands on Prowl's helm to guide him to cock to one side then turning his own the opposite. He leaned in and pressed his lips to Prowls, lips parted slightly.
"Move your lips against his, get a feel for them, see if you can get a taste of him." I stated.
There were appreciative oohs and ahhs from a few mechs as they watched Jazz kiss Prowl, I glanced around to see a few tugging over another mech to give it a try as well. Frankly I was a bit surprised by some of the couples involved. This crew sure could keep their relationships tightly concealed. When I looked back to the duo Prowl was finally getting into the kiss by returning it and stroking Jazz's helm.
I got up from my seat, heading out to leave the rest of the remaining mechs to their own whims. I took note that I had someone following me though so paused and looked over my shoulder. It was Shark.
"Feeling like a third wheel on a motorcycle in there." he murmured as he walked up to me. I gave a little nod, but said nothing. "Oh before I forget…" he said as he reached into his subspace, "… I made this for you for Christmas since I figured you'd miss getting a gift."
I looked down at his hand as he opened it. Sitting there in his palm was a rather well made metal rose, complete with a couple small leaves and a slightly opened rose bud. I reached out and took it carefully by the stem and murmured, "Thank you, Shark."
"You are welcome, Barracuda." he replied, then he looked back toward the room when there was a shout of 'Get a Room!' and an immediate peal of laughter of several mechs.
I sighed and shook my head, "I'll put this somewhere safe where I can look upon it." heading off to my room.
--
A few months later Valentine's was coming up and of course the nature of what it was about came up. So I had to explain about Saint Valentine and his arrows, then how that eventually led to affectionate cards being exchanged and how usually women got the best part of the day since they got things like flowers, chocolates, or jewelry from their boyfriends or husbands or even secret admirers. That caused quite a stir; Jazz was rubbing his hands in anticipation of plotting out how to show his Valentine a good time. So Valentine's came and I watched on quietly as the crew exchanged cards with the mech they were coupled with or with a mech they held affection for as well as giving them a gift that would have meaning to the mech they gave it to… it really was quite sweet. I finished my energon ration to retreat to my room. Inside my room was a surprise. Sitting on the table next to the recharge berth was a bouquet of wildflowers in a hand thrown earthen pot, set against the pot was an envelope with the words, "For Barracuda". I took a moment to sniff the flowers as I picked up the envelope, then I sat on the berth and opened the envelope. I withdrew a piece of paper that had been neatly tri-folded and opened it to see what was written. It was a poem, rather well written at that. I was frankly stunned by its underlying romantic meaning that I perceived was there. It was signed, 'From a Secret Admirer'. I put the poem down and sniffed at the flowers again.
There was a knock on my door. "Yes?" I called out.
The reply, "It's Optimus, could you come to the door?"
I rose from the berth and walked up to the door. I looked up at the taller mech before me, "Sir?"
Optimus looked positively amused as he intoned, "It seems you have inspired Jazz a little too much. He wants everyone in the rec room for a surprise. What it is, I have no clue, but I'm willing to humor him."
I nodded as he stepped back to allow me to head toward the rec room, he followed by my side. He stopped at Shark's door to call him out as I continued on to the rec room. Jazz wasn't there, which wasn't surprising, he was probably getting the rest of the crew into the room. I found a spot to sit and wait. Eventually the whole crew showed up and Jazz stood in the door to make sure no one would escape.
"Thank you everyone for coming. I had this great idea and figured it may be fun to try out before Valentine's is totally over." Jazz began.
There were a few murmurs and Prime spoke up, "Get on with it Jazz."
Jazz nodded, "Well since not everyone is coupled up I thought why not a kissing situation where everyone gets to kiss everyone else." There was an immediate reaction to that as a few mechs began to speak up at once, but he was quick to speak loudly over them, "Hold up! Let me explain how it will work first." He went into the details of his elaborate plan, which involved blindfolds and rules like just kissing would happen, no touching, no speaking, no peeking… basically trying to make it comfortable for everyone and yet make it intriguing. He furthered it by saying he and Prowl would guide one blindfolded crew member at a time to each blindfolded person and have them kiss then move on to the next crew member until they were done.
Blindfolds were passed around and everyone had to put them on except Jazz and Prowl. Once that was done, they took us out of the room one at a time, a numbers assigned to each of us, and seated in a chair. I'm sure they probably mixed us up so no one would know who was who. Jazz further explained that there would be inter radio contact between each person involved in a kiss and himself, but no such contact to each other, both participants had to rate the other before moving on to the next recipient of a kiss. At the end of the full round of kisses it was up to the kisser to tell Jazz their top two or three best kissers. So the process began. I waited sometime before I heard Jazz and whoever he was guiding come to a stop in front of me.
It had been some time since I kissed a man, human male that is, on the lips. I was a little nervous about it, but I gathered my wits and waited for lips to contact mine. Immediately apparent, mech lips were not at all like human lips. Not as forgiving since they were made of a slightly flexible metallic material. And the taste was different too. Jazz pulled him back as the time allotment he gave for each kiss, 30 seconds, was done. He asked me for a rating over interpersonal radio, which I gave. And so on it went, one by one someone was picked out of the lineup of sitting crew members. Each having to be rated as they rated those they kissed.
Jazz radioed to me, "Your turn Cuda. I may cut back the time a bit just in case since... well... your lips are differently shaped than ours and someone may pick up on that. Or they may pick up on something else that clues them in. I know full well we probably got a few cheating somehow, but what can you do eh?" His and Prowl's hands guided me toward the first I had to kiss and got me lined up; the rest was up to me.
I was going to be honest about how I judged each I kissed, just as I was when it had their turn to kiss me. I also was not going to cheat in some manner. Though I was going to maintain the slightly held back type of kiss due to what Jazz told me about possible cheaters. So I leaned forward and began with kiss number one, moving my lips just enough to get a good feel and taste of the mech. I was fairly certain of which one he had been to kiss me in the list of those that had kissed me before my turn came up. The kiss was finished and I gave my rating so I could move on to the next. It was interesting that there were subtle differences in each mech's lip components, one might have both lips being thin, another both lips being full, yet another with a thin and a full lip, then there were varying widths of the components. A few felt like there was a slight scar or break in the lip toward one side or corner. The fact that I had not been kissed by any face plated mechs made me wonder if Jazz and Prowl had enforced a no face plates rule for those few that had one. Scarred lips would certainly account for one as it may be part of a larger facial scar. Tastes were different as well as I compared them while moving along the lineup. I kept a mental count of how many I had kissed and how many more to go as Jazz moved me along. One kiss in particular caused a rather interesting reaction in my small fragment of a spark. This had not happened before to any great degree as it was at that very moment, though I had noticed small fluxes from it now and again. The mech I was kissing must have picked up on something as he opened his mouth to deepen the kiss, his tongue begging to me to open my own lips.
Jazz pulled me back, offering a commed, "Possible cheater. Better safe than sorry."
So I was moved on to the next and so on until I had finished my round and was asked to name my top two to three kissers. I had to think about it since there were certainly a good 10 mechs that gave a 10 kiss performance… including the one that Jazz pulled me back from since he thought the mech was cheating. I couldn't ignore that spark flux, it had to mean something. So I gave his number plus two others, and then got sat down so the rest of the crew had their turns kissing.
The spark flux happened again near the end of the round as a mech kissed me, and again he deepened the kiss to the point that Jazz pulled him back. Finally Jazz announced that the last round was over and they would begin to guide us back into the rec room with our blindfolds on. They mixed up things as their footsteps moved far away or near me until it was my turn and they took me to a chair in the rec room to sit and wait. When the last mech was guided into place Jazz said we could remove our blindfolds. Everyone did so, optics taking a moment to adjust to the sudden bright light. Jazz stated that he and Prowl would compare the ratings given and the top picks of each crew member for awhile, so to sit, relax, and maybe chat about the experience.
Prime stood and walked over to me, "Are you all right?" he asked, looking down at me. Trust that mech of all of them to be able to read when someone was troubled or otherwise just not up to snuff in some manner. It was downright spooky since he did it to everyone eventually.
I knew full well telling him a lie wouldn't fly either, so I was honest in my reply, "Just an odd spark flux caught me off guard is all, Optimus."
His optics brightened a bit, nodding to me, tone lowering as he leaned down to whisper, "Usually that happens when your spark mate is making their presence known. It also can happen when someone you respect and care about is near you as well."
I looked him in the optics as he said this, asking, "Should I… do something about it?"
"That is entirely up to you. If you are not ready, then don't do anything. Wait until you are ready and know for sure it isn't something like a random occurrence." he intoned softly.
I nodded, smiling to him, "Thank you."
"You are welcome. By the way, I noticed you didn't give out any cards. May I ask why?" he inquired.
I looked away at that one, frowning slightly, "I never much liked this holiday due to favoritism among the more popular kids in school. They always got more cards than someone like me when I was human." I explained, "I just don't wish to play favorite with any particular mech and upset the others, nor did I want to make up cards for everyone either."
He nodded to that, "I think I understand." then he pulled out a card from his subspace, "Should I not give you this then?"
I shuttered my optics a moment, then nodded, "I will accept it in the spirit it is given, sir."
"Good." he intoned, offering me the card, which I took. He looked down at me, as if waiting for me to open it.
I figured I may as well so opened it to read what the card had to say. It was nicely written, nothing overtly romantic about it, just a thank you for assisting with things around base and brightening things up with my presence. "Thank you, sir." I said softly to him, "It is nice to be appreciated."
Apparently Prime giving me a card broke the ice and cued a few others to get up and approach, Ratchet and Wheeljack were first. I had long since figured out the two were coupled up, the card was from them both and it was very sweet what was said in it. Then Perceptor came over to give me a card, the big words in it were impressive, but the sentiment behind them was appreciated. Prowl came in with Jazz, both of them smiling. Prowl came over and handed me a card as Jazz whistled loudly to signal that we all quiet down.
"All right mechs, and femme, we got all our results compared. Question is how best to give out the results." Jazz stated.
I looked over the card as suggestions were thrown out by various crew members. It was an interesting card to say the least, a lovely sentiment about them hoping I would find the one that made my spark race and would fill my life with happiness.
After hearing the suggestions offered, Jazz pulled Prowl aside to whisper back and forth. After awhile Jazz nodded and looked back to everyone in the room. "All right then, we'll be doing a set up over the course of the week to get things going. For now just chill and we'll get back to you."
Several left the rec room to attend to duties that had been on hold. I left as well to take my cards to my room and put in a place of honor with the other card.
