Chapter 10: The End of the Beginning.
(Secret Ninja School - Mt. Yamanuchi, Japan - October 3rd, 2003)
The elderly man sat on a thin cushion in the center of the school's shrine. As Sensei of the school it fell to him to protect his students and safeguard the secrets of Mystical Monkey power. Less than a month ago one of those secrets, the Lotus Blade, had been stolen. If not for his foresight, it might have been lost forever to the mutated hands of the evil Monkey Fist.
The primary duty, as laid down by their founder, of the Yamanuchi Ninja was the collection and security of all things related to Mystical Monkey magic. Artifacts of power were scattered all over the world, hidden in secret temples. Whenever they could, they retrieved those artifacts and brought them to the school. Sensei felt it was his own fault Monkey Fist got to the idols that gave him his power first.
It was fortunate another was also imbued with the power. Fearing an impending attack, Sensei sent a summons for Ron Stoppable, under the guise of a student exchange. It was only the young boy's inherent goodness that allowed him to act as Yamanuchi's champion and save the Lotus Blade.
Sensei knew in his heart, there would be other attempts. He looked down at the scroll unrolled on the floor in front of him. It contained a prophecy of great power. It told of the legend of the Yono. Such power could not be allowed to become a weapon of evil. Mystical Monkey power alone would not be enough to keep this from happening. He needed the one weapon legend said was strong enough to oppose the Yono. The Han.
There was risk bringing the Han into existence though. It was potentially an even greater threat than the Yono if evil were to control it. The Han's power came from an even more ancient source than Mystical Monkey magic. The risk was worth it. Sensei knew how to keep such a powerful weapon safe. Once again, he would call upon the Champion of Yamanuchi.
Sensei rolled up the scroll and took it to a magically warded cabinet where he kept all such dangerous writings. Once if was safely sealed inside, he resumed his position in the center of the shrine. He began to meditate on what he was about to set in motion as he awaited the arrival of one of his best students.
What he was going to do to that student violated all his ethical standards. Yet it had to be done in order to create the Han. He salved his conscious with a single thought. It was for the greater good.

Yori felt a sense of great pride as she used her chain grapple to pull herself up onto the snow covered mountain ledge. This was her final test. Today she would be admitted to the ranks of a full fledged ninja. At only sixteen years old, she would be the youngest student to ever achieve it.
She was surprised when Sensei told her she was ready. His words came back to her as she stowed her grapple in the special pocket of her black ninja tunic.
“You brought great honor to the Yamanuchi when you helped Ron Stoppable defeat Monkey Fist. Your training proved up to the task. I therefore believe you are ready for the next step. I have faith you will succeed.”
Those words buoyed her as she stood looking at the small cave in front of her. Inside was her challenge. According to Sensei, it was the lair of a great beast, which recently began terrorizing a local village. He told her nothing of it's nature. Finding that out would be part of the test. Once it was defeated, she would be a student no more.
She felt calm and composed as she used all her stealthy abilities to approach the dark entrance undetected.

(Camp Nowhere - May 29th, 1946)
“Shut that damned thing down and get him out of there.”
Dietrich knew he had little choice but to do as the woman demanded. He knew his dream was over. His nephew was dead. His work compromised. His very life threatened. He could feel the barrel of the gun following his every move as he pulled the lever that cut power to the machine and went over to the hatch. It took all his effort to drag the barely conscious man out.
Nanette motioned to the side with the rifle. “Good. Now back away slowly. Over there. Against the wall.”
She kept careful eye on the Nazi doctor as he did as she told him. Once he was a safe enough distance away, she glanced down at Stoppable. He was moaning in pain, his body twitching from the machine's vile energies. She knew exactly what he was going through. How many times had she been strapped onto a gurney and pushed through that hatch in the last week? A dozen times? More? She couldn't be sure. The pain of it was only barely worse then what Barkin did to her in between.
No matter what people said of her, she was never before a malicious or hateful person. What she felt for Hall went beyond hate. Killing Barkin only lessened the feelings of vengeance inside her. There was plenty left for the mad scientist. She raised the gun. Sighted down it's length. She smiled at the trembling man as she aimed precisely at his heart and pulled the trigger.
Dietrich felt his heart skip a beat as the rifle made a soft, impotent sounding, click. He didn't know if it was out of ammunition, or had misfired. Either way, he knew this was his only chance to stay alive. With a speed that belied his bulk, he dodged behind the large machine.
Shock and confusion held her for only a few seconds. Tossing the gun to the floor, she clenched her fists and strode toward the place where Hall was hiding. She would put an end to his evil, even if it meant she had to use her bare hands to do it. There was only one way in or out of the laboratory, the main door. She knew that from her many visits. There was no way she would let him past her to get to it.
As she came around the bulk of the machine, she saw and heard two very strange things. A grinding noise came from above her, as she saw Hall strapping some kind of device to his body. It was like a large metal tube on his back. From the base of it, a bell-like cone extended. Lines ran to a smaller cone on the front.
Dietrich fastened the strap of the Himmelstürmer as the escape hatch in the ceiling opened. He hoped he would have enough time to activate the prototype jet pack as he saw the woman round the device and come for him.
She lunged at him, just as the two flared nozzles of the device began to emit flames. Her hand just grazed his shoe as he was lifted into the air. The last thing she saw of him was his sickening smile as he was carried through the opening in the roof.

Gideon Stoppable clenched his hands to his temples as the pain faded. He opened his eyes to see Maiden sitting next to his prone body. “What did I miss?”
“Barkin is dead. Hall escaped.”
He tried to sit up, but she pushed him back down. “Don't try to move yet. It takes some time for the effects to wear off.”
He sighed. He was about to ask her for more details, when a groaning sound filled the air.
They both looked over at the source.
A voice came from behind one of the control consoles.
“Where am I? What's going on? Who am I!?”
A/N: The Himmelstürmer "Heaven Stormer" actually existed. It was conceived and built by the Germans during the latter part of WWII. It was the basis for the fictitious rocket pack in the movie "The Rocketeer."
