Chapter 1: Druid in Menagerie.
Note: Alright my doods! Here is another story for y’all! This is based on a singular idea that I found online while researching for character development and this is the idea I came across.
A lot of Overlord based stories are always based around guilds coming with their leaders(or members) so in these fanfictions, the MC has a home to go to, a limitless supply of gold and items to house and numerous NPCs to defend and fight alongside with.
However this idea is based around the MC, who is Jaune Arc for this story, that has nothing to fall back on, no guild to retreat to to lick wounds or to call home, nor a place to house numerous items and limitless gold or to command numerous NPCs and Pop Monsters.
So the MC is entirely alone with limited resources, skills and magic to call on during their time in remnant.
This story is made between me and my co author @unlimitedblades and is beta read by my boy @ZergPsycho

It had been a full day since the end of the game of Yggdrasil, a DMMORPG, which was a staple of the gaming industry in the country of Japan however after 12 years of the games existence which was well beyond most other games which could only last a few years until the next big thing.
What drew people to Yggdrasil was under two concepts, Exploration and Player Customization.
The developers of Yggdrasil, or in their given name by the players as the shitty devs, were sadistic to their players because they wanted to push people to explore the game on their own merit and work so literally no information is published at all about anything within the game.
Information on monsters, guilds and competition were all scarce and had to be sought out by merit which is why information guilds were incredibly profitable because people would pay a lot of in-game currency and items for information.
Until the end of the game that is.
Jaune Luna Arc was one of the best druid mages within the whole game and could match the versatility of World Disasters, but unfortunately the blonde druid couldn’t outmatch them in power, they are world disasters for a reason.
The blonde man was reincarnated into the world of earth after being mauled to death by several Ursa Majors while defending his school bully, at least the aspiring Knight died knowing he made a difference in one man’s life, better then not making an impact at all.
However at the end of Yggdrasils life, Jaune was ‘meditating’ in the forest of tranquility which is one of the lowest level areas within Midgard and since the monsters within the forest are low level plant monsters and beasts, no monster were able to do anything to the hoodie man.
When the game fully ended, Jaune was expecting to return to his one bedroom apartment in Tokyo but the blonde man ended up waking in a desert and was attacked by Deathstalkers an hour later after Jaune wandered around, luckily the blonde ma quickly frozen and killed those scorpion grimm using an ice spell.
So now after a full day, Jaune is currently housing himself inside a cave and build a wooden cabin using the ‘Lifeshaper’ skill from his ‘Circle of the Woodshaper” Druid class and now he is beginning to think up of a plan to survive his home world of remnant.
Inside the cave, a shirtless blonde man was sitting at a wooden table within a rather detailed wooden house that was built in the end of the rather deep cave.
The Druid Man needed a place to rest and recuperate while he began to figure out what to do and at least where the blonde boy was in his old world.
Jaune was grasping on a black orb with a purple highlight with his right hand while slowly munching on dango, putting the dark orange balls coated with a sweet sauce into his mouth and ate it, sure the blonde man could simply synthesize outside due to the passive skill ‘Verdant Soul’ granted by the ‘Circle of the Roots’ Druid Class but with the constant threat of Grimm, Jaune simply ate one of the numerous food items he had in his item box and there was A LOT of space in his inventory because the blonde man spent over 300 bucks purchasing items to expand his inventory space to be equivalent to that of the largest storage unit in the big city.
Jaune eats the second dango ball on the stick as he stares at the black purple orb while thinking ‘Ok Jaune, start thinking; desert, there’s only two places that has a large desert in Remnant which is either the continent of Sanus or the island of Menagerie, either are not a good place to start living so if I’m on the continent of Sanus then I need start making my way to Vacuo next push for Vale but if I’m on Menagerie then I must find the main settlement and I’ll see from there, but my ultimate goal is to figure out the date and see if I can return to beacon’
While that is the original ghoul for the blonde druid but he quickly scratched his desire to return to his life at beacon, because he wielded 300 spells from the Druid spell list and specialized spells from other lists due to certain classes that Jaune claimed so even if he did somehow find a way back home, he would be quickly swarmed and arrested then questioned where he got the power that he has.
The blonde grit his teeth while gripping the orb hard, luckily it didn’t crack which it shouldn’t have since it was his world item.
World Items were 1 of 200 items that could break the game of Yggdrasil and owning even just one of these items catapulted the player's status to the high tier list.
Jaune kept on thinking on what he should do as his gaze soon lifted towards the other end of the table where a green scaled snake was coiled around itself while swallowing the whole dango balls with ease, probably due to the scaly creatures lack of teeth outside of his venomous fangs.
Raiden was the snakes name and he was a Couatl which is a serpentine creature with the ability to fly, it was a Druidic creature which Jaune claimed his Couatl familiar was through his ‘Circle of the Mother’, The blonde druid maxed out the class which in turn has fully evolved and leveled the flying snake to its max.
The blonde man ripped his gaze from the green snake creature swallowing another dango ball to which his eyes turned towards his back but towards the wall where a strange brown furred bear was laying in a pile of straw.
The bear was sitting on its butt while it dumped its furry hand into a rather large open pot of honey to lick up the sweet sticky sauce because bears love honey and the blonde man kept a rather large reservoir of honey within his inventory because it grants a rather desirable eating buff and honey is only foragable in Midgard.
The bear was an animal companion granted to Jaune through his ‘Circle of the Wildlife’ Class and the boy was in Midgard when he invested his acquired level point so two companion animals to operate as monsters equivalent to his own level are valuable companions.
The blonde boy returned his gaze back to his orb continuing to think for the next few moments until an idea popped up, Jaune managed to get access to the Divination Spell List despite being a Druid so he has quite a lot of spells to help him find his way.
The Druid boy placed the final dango ball inside his mouth to munch then plunging his hand into a dark spiral portal to pull out a black hoodie with a white rabbit logo, the item was a hoodie replicated to look like Jaune’s favorite pumpkin Pete’s hoodie when he lived on remnant until his death in the forever falls.
Putting on the hoodie, the blonde boy got up from the spell crafted table “Raiden, it’s time to go” Jaune called out to the snake who uncoiled around himself and flies into the air with his Angel like wings then wrapped himself around Jaune’s shoulders like the creature as an extra large scarf draped around the blonde man’s shoulders, Jaune turned to face Kirishima who looked up curiously.
“Something on your mind Master?” The bear asked sweetly and not enhanced by the honey, Jaune has a passive skill that makes him under the permanent effects of Speaking with Animals so while others hear roars, chirps and barking, Jaune is passively translating all of that into speakable words of english.
“Guard the cave Kirishima, I’ll be spending the day locating a nearby village so I need you to remain” Jaune ordered as he starts walking towards the brown bear and grabbing a honey pot out of his inventory to set it near the creature “Just roar loudly every hour to discourage people from entering the cave and if you need too then step outside for a minute or two” Jaune explained as the bear nodded while dumping his hand into the first pot that the creature had in his arm.
“Of course Master, it’s not unusual for bears to sleep in caves” Kirishima the bear said then starts licking up the dripping yellow sauce from the pot.
Jaune nodded then left the house and the cave to be met with the scorching heat of the desert then puts on his hood over his head, counterproductive to most, but Jaune’s passive verdant soul skill allowed him to use the sun's rays as a secondary source of nutrition so he can operate without needing food so long as he was in the sun's light.
The blonde man raised his right hand as well as his left hand, the left hand was holding the purple orb which exuded a rather dangerous looking purple aura “Lead of Yatagarasu!” Jaune spoke the spells required vocal activation which conjured forth a raven out from thin air which had three legs.
The bird squawked then remained silent as it flaps in the air to remain airborne while waiting for the command of the magic caster, The blonde hoodie boy sighed as he pockets the orb into the hoodie “Take me to the nearest village”
The bird nodded before flapping towards east while the blonde man followed the bird's slow flight through the air ‘This is gonna be a while isn’t it?’ Jaune said before mentally casting a spell using silent magic ‘Silent: Perfect Unknowable’ with the spell casted, the blonde haired man appeared as if he was melded with the flowing sand from the wind, not realizing that Jaune had entered a state of near perfect invisibility while following the three legged bird in the air.
Meanwhile,
Inside the capital city of Menagerie’s sole settlement, Kuo Kouna, where numerous humanoid figures with minor animalistic traits are walking around in the forest settlement going about their day.
They were Faunus, Humans with animal traits dating back to ancient times where humans and faunus fall prey to the monstrous Grimm but ever since the Great War dating back 90 years prior, Humans had discriminated against the Faunus People to the point that the Animalistic Population fought back.
But Humans were pathetic and somehow spun the win into a sort of loss and tried to force every Faunus on the planet to the Island of Menagerie which sparked the second war which was the Human-Faunus war and the faunus had won which caused the humans intent to stop forcing Faunus to the island but made living anywhere else near unbearable to force the the animal born people to willingly move to menagerie.
Inside one of the larger houses which is the house belonging to the current Governor and Governess of the main settlement of the island, Ghira and Kali Belladonna.
Inside the large manors living rooms is where a human male with a grey shirt, dark pants completed with a slightly tattered red cape and his weapon which looked like a greatsword was compacted and resting on the couch.
He was Qrow Branwen, one of the strongest huntsmen in the Kingdom of Vale and was one of the closest members of Ozpin who was the headmaster of Beacon Academy, a school to train the next generation of defenders and slayers of Grimm.
Qrow was mindlessly munching on some almonds as he tried to avoid eye contact from the woman sitting across, who seemed to smile at him as if she wasn’t thinking of murdering him and stuffing his body into the trees which the woman wasn’t.
The woman had short black hair with a pair of cat-like ears which twitched slightly as if she’s hearing something around her.
She was wearing black hakama and sandals with white tabi socks. Over her outfit, she wears a black shrug with a long right sleeve and a shorter left sleeve, gold-leaf trim adorning the opening on the front.
She wears long, black arm warmers that extend to the middle finger.
The left warmer has a purple band tied around the top and a pair of gold bangles around the wrist.
Around her waist is a black and gold sash that trails behind her, with a gold flower-shaped buckle at the end.
“Heh…S-so…Kali…how have you been? You haven’t stopped smiling at me for 10 minutes” The red eyed huntsman said as he gulped down some of nature’s food while trying to strike up a conversation of a woman the black haired rogue deemed more dangerous than her own husband.
Kali would giggle lightly at the man “Just reminiscing Qrow, I remember you weren’t as handsome when you were younger, the stubble really works for you” she said, The huntsman chuckled nervously as he really didn’t like being alone with Kali Belladonna because while she herself was a retired huntress, Kali was infamously known to manipulate her targets with a false cover and break them down with kindness.
Direct contrast to her husbands rough and to the point approach to all sorts of problems, Qrow kept stuffing the nuts into his mouth as a way to not strike anymore conversation with the cat woman.
The doors opened causing both the female huntress and the red eyed bird man to the door where a rather tall and bulky man entering the room, he was a while male with his chest exposed from his rather tight jacket and white pants.
“Welcome home Sweetie! Did the meeting go well?” Kali said as she got up and tip toed to the man.
Ghira Belladonna smiled down at the cat woman with a nod “Yes, I was fortunate that Sienna was in a good mood to listen to some of my concerns as of late concerning the white fang” the hairy panther faunus said then his eyes landed on the black haired huntsman on the couch nearly eating the whole bowl of complimentary nuts the Governor of the settlement puts out for guests.
The man chuckled as he walked towards the couches and sat down across the end table “As I live and breath, how many years has it been that we last seen each other Qrow? It was Graduation at Beacon” Ghira said which the huntsman gave a chuckle and nodded downwards.
“Yeah…18 years” The red eyed hunter confirmed.
“How is the old team? I heard summer died 10 years ago, Tai must’ve been crushed” The panther man said as back in the old days as a Beacon Student, he was close friends with Team STRQ.
Qrow looked sad for a moment but grunted lightly “Tai is fine, he has the girls to look after but let’s get to business Ghira, Ozpin detected a large energy within the desert and he wanted to send some huntsman to investigate but due to the Human-Faunus Accord, he can’t do anything without the express and written permission from the current leader of Menagerie which is you” Qrow explained the reason why he was in a Faunus dominated landmass that has shown a lot of disdain towards humans which is not unwarranted since they suffered a lot of hate and discrimination.
Ghira grunted as he starts thinking about this but sighing to himself and shook his head “Unfortunately I cannot, as much as I want to since this is to show I’m working towards an understanding with humans, I would have riots in streets because a lot of the Faunus still hasn’t forgave the humans for the treatment we suffered for the past few hundred years” Ghira explained his reason for not accepting Qrow’s request.
Qrow seemed to nod as it was deeply reasonable for a leader to take the desires of his people into account when making deals with foreigners “That’s fair Ghira, though let me explain more, Ozpin thinks a source of extremely pure and potent dust was surfaced in the desert due to some natural disaster or through the tunneling from Deathstalkers so he is willing to pay you 10x the market rate to buy the mining rights from you though we need to investigate to ensure if the dust is infact there” Though technically true since due to the soaring dust prices in vale, the kingdom is looking for alternate ways to secure dust instead of purchasing inflated prices from the SDC.
Kali and Ghira looked at each other especially surprised as the Kingdom of Vale was infact willing to pay a far higher price to acquire dust by means other then the inflated prices from the SDCs monopoly, The Panther Faunus turned to Qrow “Explain old friend, why come to us with this offer when you pay for a mine closer to Vale”
“85% of all know dust mines are owned by the SDC plus with the attacks from the White Fang targeting a large portion of these mines plus with the heightened dust robberies within the kingdom, the council of vale and Ozpin believes outsourcing dust off the continent could help reduce prices on dust for the citizens, otherwise the kingdom will grow stagnant and will enter a recession” Qrow explains deeper on his desire to investigate then purchase this dust vein from the islands leader.
Kali would hum lightly then looked over “Should we? Sure a lot of the citizens would be mad because they would think we are letting humans walk over us again but we could use that money to boost Menagerie and possible get enough equipment to start pushing in further east to get more room for the settlement”
“Yes, a lot of benefits for us on this but don’t forget, alot of the older Faunus are veterans of the Human-Faunus War and they are still deeply bitter after the war and how they gained very little despite winning…I’m sorry Qrow but I have to decline” Ghira agreed before turning down the offer because he didn’t need riots on the streets and giving the white fang a reason to assassinate him and replace him with a White Fang Supremacist.
Qrow grunted as he somewhat knew Ghira would say that “Right, sorry for wasting your time old friend but I need to head out and tell Ozpin” The red eyed huntsman said as he got up from the couch, the flakes from the numerous nuts he had eaten then grabbed his weapon ‘The Harbinger’ to place on his belt “But the offer remains open if your willing to bargain with Ozpin and Vale, Nice to see you again Ghira” The bird named man left the room, leaving the two to think about it further.
Outside the manor which Qrow walked away silently, he took out his scroll, a telecommunications device that allowed one to talk to another across the world through CCTs, Continental Communications Towers, but since Menagerie doesn’t have a CCT so calls and news tend to go slower.
‘Your message couldn’t be taken due to the slow speeds of the CCT, would you like to leave a message? Press 1-‘ The automatic message played through the huntsman’s scroll.
*BEEP*
Qrow pressed the displayed number on the digital pin pad.
‘You have pressed 1, at the beep, record your message then press 2 to send’
*BEEP*
“Ozzy. It’s Qrow, Ghira Belladonna didn’t take the deal so we can’t land any huntsman or huntresses to locate that mysterious energy signature you’ve discovered and do tell Jimmy to not break international sovereignty because he’s worried of possible ‘Salem’ activities” Qrow records the message then pressed two and hung up, sighing lightly then looked upwards towards the bright blue sky ‘This world is going crazy, First the dust robberies got cranked up to an eleven, sudden rise of Grimm around vale, the White Fang in Vale becoming extremely wound up and now a mysterious figure that Ozzy thinks is connected to magic.’
-Location: Unknown-
An unknown looking female gasped and catapulted upwards from the dirt floor to look around, her eyes pure crimson red but held a deep fire within, she had a Nodachi Blade on her back and had a mysterious looking gun strapped to her leg.
She was wearing a mixture of a military style outfit that had medieval themed plated armor above it, she has black long hair with a pair of wolf ears on top.
The mysterious woman sighed as she got up and looked around in the deserted village that looked like it was hit by monsters that she was sleeping in “Where am I?-“ she asked herself then a sudden voice caused the woman to swiftly turn around and place her left hand on the pistol on her leg.
“Your in Kuroyuri Young Lady” The woman who spoke was a rather short brown woman that looked Like a village shaman, she was wearing a pair of futuristic glasses that emitted a blue glow.
The black haired woman raised an eyebrow at the glasses shaman “Who are you?” she asked unsure if she was a friend or a foe especially in this unknown world.
The old woman seemed to giggle lightly as she taps her cane lightly on the ground while approaching the mysterious younger swords woman, the crimson eyed woman is starting to think that the old lady had issues with her eyes “I’m Maria Calavera, I used to be a huntress and I was feared as the Silver Eyed Grim Reaper back in the day though unfortunately I lost my eyes.
The mysterious young woman seemed to understand the woman, she was blinded during her time of youth and reverted to using cybernetics to help see.
The old lady started to walk away as if she had no care in the world but with her free hand motioned for the swordsman to follow to which she found herself doing “So Young Lady what is your name?”
The crimson woman remained silent for the moment then answered “Kyaska Hex, I was the Wolf of the Wild from where I was from”

Alright my doods! Here is the first story of the Druid of the Desert.
Now then, if anyone wants to submit ideas for ‘Players’ then your welcome to see because I plan to submit a few players into the stories as enemies against Jaune or as Allies and Advisors because the best way to help a Lv100 Druid is another player who’s on an equal footing.
