Casterly shifted nervously in place as he stared ahead at the land rapidly appearing on the horizon. The land that offered him freedom. For months he has been trapped on the wooden cage where he was forced to endure the whispers and isolation given to him by his so called people. Word's like 'monster' and 'demon' commonly replaced his name in their gossip. Tongue's laden with hatred and ill disguised fear.
I'm sure that without my guards several attempts would have been made on my life by now. He thought somewhat bitterly as he finally turned from the sight of the land named America and caught the angry eyes of those surrounding him. The only thing that separated him and them was the four large knights in heavy armor and one man cloaked in velvet. The four men where Casterly's guards appointed to him by his father, the king of England. And the man in velvet with a snooty look on his face was Casterly's older brother and the apple of their fathers eye.
Charles. The prince of England. And one of the most arrogant people Casterly has ever known. As he has grown up around royalty that's saying a lot. Casterly, however deemed himself appropriately humbled. Due to his short but eventful life. A cursed life if the rumors and stories were to be believed.
His mother, Anne of Denmark and Queen of England, had fallen ill all through out her pregnancy with him and had gone into labor while her husband, daughter, and son where away to France. She had barely lived through the five hour labor that brought Casterly to the world. And neither had Casterly.
Pale as a ghost with the hair to match and with red eyes like blood the midwife had almost dropped poor Casterly in her fright. She instead opted to hug him close and hide him from any other's gaze. Whispering prayers over his weak form as he let out weak whimpers and cries, she attempted to vanquish the demon she believed resided inside the babe. It was the stern orders from his mother and the strong grip of her guard that managed to pull him from her grip and into the light. His mother, he was often told, hesitated little in taking him from her guard and into her own shaken and weary arms so he could nurse before they both fell into a fretful slumber, Casterly still curled onto her chest. Both weak from the ordeal that was child birth.
When his father and siblings returned they found Casterly and his mother hidden away in her chambers, the midwife from his birth had vanished, and no one but the Queen's guard was allowed to see him. His father probably would have drowned Casterly like an unwanted pup had his mother not been almost overbearingly protective of him. This changed little as he grew older.
Kept from public view most of the time, for all of his fourteen years Casterly was isolated from many of his peer's and rarely kept the company of any other then his mother, siblings, and tutors. His mother feared for his life from those believing him to be a demon and kept him covered in a thick cloak and surrounded by armored men at all times.
His father rarely graced Casterly with his presence, and always made sure to refer to him as an 'it' so Caterly knew how disguisted he was by him. It caused a large rift in his family and his parents marriage became cold. Despite his own feelings toward the man Casterly could see his mother was hurting from the rift. Yet, his loving mother wouldn't risk his safety. Guilt ridden with the knowledge that his existance was the cause of her unhappiness he jumped at the first chance to escape.
Escape, unknowing to the man himself, came from his father ironically enough. Trouble was stirring in James town, a famous American colony, and the Native Americans that lived on the surrounding land. Currently the alliance was held in the marriage of the chiefs daughter Pocahontas and a highly respected Englishman John Smith. But rumor's where stirring about John's loyalty to the Native's over the crown and a renewal of the alliance was needed. So probably hoping his weak son would die at sea his father had ordered Casterly and his eldor brother to go to James town, ignoring his wifes pleas. The old man would go crazy if he knew that I was happy leaving. Probably thought I woud be a frightened child after leaving mothers skirts.
Though admittedly scared in the beginning after a few weeks Casterly became used to the shrewd, hatred filled gazed that surrounded him. The people believed he was cursed and worried his presence would cause the ship to sink. It didn't help that none knew what he looked like besides his brother and guards. Casterly had spent the months keeping to himself, sticking to the shadows and hiding beneath his heavy cloak. Now months later they were arriving at America.
I wonder what shall become of me here? He thought warily as the shore came closer. Will my life end here? At the hands of the superstitious people? Or will I manage to defeat the odds and find happines?
He smiled at the thought though it quickly vanished as bitter thought's overcame him. Who am I kidding? I won't find happiness here. Bloody hell, my father has probably already ordered my assasination. His heart felt heavy at the thought as his mind brought forth the grief stricken expreeion his mother would wear when they told her that her youngest had died. They would probably tell her he died at sea or from disease. Swallowing the lump rapidly building in his throat along with his nerves Casterly forced himself to straighten and hide his emotions. Only when he experienced his fate would he have his answers and until then there was little use dwelling on it.
The boat was docking and soon Casterly would be on land. Moving through the crowded deck Casterly and his shield of velvet and armor finally stepped foot onto the land named America. Despite his better judgement he couldn't help but make a final plea to a god he barely believed in. Please, oh please, let me find freedom here. Away from father. Away from England. Let me find my happiness.
Overhead an eagle flew past.

I'm going to attempt to post chapters for this story weekly. Though fear writers block or life may interfere. Right now I have a grande idea for it but I am starting out small. I'll love it if you leave reviews and give out cookies to anyone that comments.
