Crescentia glowed in the late afternoon sun, a visual symphony of terracotta roofs and cream roofs in shining contrast to the dull greys and browns of the planet Montressor, which appeared to glower above it in its long, slow orbit. Flocks of mantabirds drifted around it, calling to each other in ultrasonic voices. The constant cloud of traffic moved slowly, cargo ships and pleasure craft jostling for position. To a keen observer, however, the object of most interest was just emerging from one of the distant cloudbanks. At first glance it was a ship like any other, though her blue and gold trim marked her out as an Imperial vessel. A battle ensign flying from her mainmast showed that she was a warship, but the watcher would have been busy taking in the lines of her hull. In contrast to the stolid shapes of Imperial warships in the past, her hull owed equal credit to the smooth forms of nature and the hard edge of a knife. Her lines swept aft from a clipper bow, past a single row of gunports before climbing to a raised secondary hull. She moved with the effortless grace of an abyssal starshark despite her considerable size, cutting through the ethereal mist and turning towards the mighty spaceport. Her white sails glittered with energy and the name Lyonesse was emblazoned in brass across her stern. A small cluster of figures stood on the raised platform of her bridge, watching the crew as they moved across the deck in practised motions.
“Spaceport in sight, ma'am.” Lieutenant Aurora Mayflower touched her hat to Admiral Amelia, who nodded with satisfaction.
“Very good, lieutenant. Flag-captain? Prepare for our arrival.”
Captain Rennier, a monocle-wearing Benbonian, touched his hat. “Aye, ma'am. It's good to be home.”
“Indeed it is.” Amelia smiled as he left the bridge, calling orders, and looked back at the spaceport, reminding herself to concentrate on the task at hand and not get too far ahead. “Lieutenant Pike? Signal spaceport control and inform them that we wish to dock. Navigator? Bring us in.”
“Aye, maam.” Aurora stepped up to the helm console and looked at the holographic displays. “Helm, bring us six points to starboard, positive two points on the bows. Reduce speed, all ahead full one half.”
“Six points starboard, positive two, speed one half, aye.” The helmsman echoed the commands as he turned the ship's wheel.
“Almost back again, ladies and gentlemen,” said Amelia. “A successful little outing for our new flagship, but let's not get slack in the home straight. I want her brought in by the book. No sloppiness. There'll be plenty of time for any reunions dockside, but I want everyone's mind focused on the task at hand. No sense in the flagship embarrassing herself in front of the rest of the fleet, is there?”
“No, ma'am.” Lieutenant Commander Constantine, the ship's Katydian master gunner, shook his head.
“That goes for you, too, Miss Mayflower,” Amelia nodded at Aurora. “Don't let your mind wander.”
“Naturally, ma'am,” Aurora tried not to grin, seeing the glint of humour in Amelia's eye.
“Spaceport control responding, ma'am,” said Pike, who had a telescope to his eye. “We are cleared for direct approach to Headquarters Berth 1.”
“Very good, Mr Pike!” Amelia nodded. “You heard him, Miss Mayflower. Berth 1.”
“Berth number 1 it is, admiral.” Aurora's fingers danced briefly across the control console. “Beacon in sight.”
“Lock on to it and follow it in,” said Amelia. “But have the lookouts keep their eyes sharp. The last thing we want is some blundering trampship getting in our way. Traffic near Crescentia can be extremely undisciplined.”
“Aye, ma'am. We'll post extra eyes aloft.” Constantine touched his hat.
“Excellent. I'll be in my cabin.” Amelia nodded. “Miss Mayflower? Steady her up and then report to me.”
Aurora touched her hat. “Yes, ma'am.”
“I don't envy you,” Constantine shook his head once Amelia had gone. “Navigator and flag-lieutenant all at once? Either one of those jobs would be enough.”
“Oh, it's not so bad, sir,” said Aurora. “When we're planetside, there's nothing to navigate, and when we're spacing there tends to be much less paperwork to do.”
“The admiral sets pretty high standards for everything,” said Constantine.
“And we all aspire to meet them, sir,” said Aurora innocently. “Helm, come two points to port. Reduce speed to one quarter when we come within three thousand.”
“Two points to port, one quarter when within three thousand it is, ma'am!”
Aurora watched the console for a minute until she was satisfied with the new course and then straightened up.
“And in that spirit, sir, I'd best not keep the admiral waiting.”
Constantine nodded. “Indeed not, lieutenant. Off you go. I'll have someone inform you when we reduce speed.”
“Thank you, sir.” Aurora touched her hat and turned to follow Amelia's footsteps from the bridge. She stepped onto the secondary main deck and pushed open a polished wooden door that led below. The master stateroom of the Lyonesse ran across the full width of the capital ship's stern, with much of the space occupied by a grand conference room around a long table. Portraits hung on the walls and ornaments stood on small pedestals between the curving ribs of the ship. Aurora found Amelia in the small private office which adjoined the room, rolling up papers from the desk. She knocked respectfully on the open door. Amelia looked up at her and smiled.
“Ah, lieutenant.”
“Reporting as ordered, ma'am,” Aurora smiled back. “Our approach is stable and on track. Mr Constantine will inform us when we get closer. I've left orders to slow to port speed.”
“Well done,” Amelia nodded. “Two weeks of good spacing, if I may say so.”
Aurora blushed slightly. “Thank you, ma'am.”
Amelia picked up a star chart and passed it over. “I'd like you to check the navigational records one more time before we come in,” she said. “Captain Rennier's report will require it, as will mine.”
“Of course, ma'am.” Aurora took the chart. “Permission to use the grand table?”
Amelia waved a hand. “As you need, lieutenant.”
Aurora touched her hat and went to unroll the chart on the large table in the conference room. She took a pencil and compass out of her uniform coat pocket – the basic tools of the navigator's trade – and began plying them across the chart, where a meticulously-drawn line traced every movement the ship had made for the previous fortnight as it sailed the sector of Imperial space of which it was now the primary protector. Aurora had planned every major course change and could have recited them by heart had she been required to, though a slight furrowing of her striped brow was all that showed the intense workings of her mind as she retraced the voyage. Amelia stepped out of the office behind her and closed the door quietly, not wishing to break her concentration. She padded across the carpeted floor to peer over her navigator's shoulder, watching her tuck a stray lock of blonde hair back behind a pointed ear. Apparently satisfied, Aurora rolled up the map and turned around, almost bumping straight into Amelia.
“Oh! Ma'am! Goodness, I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were there!”
Amelia laughed at the look on the young felinid's face. “I hadn't announced my presence, lieutenant, it's quite all right. Is the chart up to date?”
Aurora nodded and patted it. “Yes, ma'am. Shall I put it with the ship's log?”
“Thank you.” Amelia watched her open the locked cabinet and stow the chart next to the large leather-bound tome. “And I did mean it, you know...about the good spacing. For your first time at the helm of a ship this size, you did most exceptionally.”
Aurora smiled. “I'm honoured that you think so, ma'am. She's a fine ship. So handy on the helm that it felt like a frigate at times.”
Amelia patted the wall fondly. “Yes, I could easily get used to the Lyonesse...”
“She's probably quite different to your last ship,” said Aurora. “I never saw the Legacy in person, though.”
“Oh, she was a fine ship as well.” Amelia smiled fondly. “In her own way, though. I was able to make a few additions to her that I can't very well do to the Lyonesse.”
“Like what, ma'am?”
“Well, you have to remember, lieutenant, the Legacy was more than just a ship.” Amelia began crossing the room to the door to her sleeping quarters. “She was my home as well, for many a year while I was in the Reserves. Oh, I suppose I stayed in any number of grubby little places on shore as well, when I had to, but the ship was always my home.”
“I suppose it must have felt like the voyages never stopped,” said Aurora.
“Something like that. But I always found a way to relax when a run was completed.” Amelia smiled again as she remembered. “It's amazing what a good bath can do for you.”
“I know I'd welcome one now, ma'am,” said Aurora.
“Is that so?” Amelia raised an eyebrow, still smiling. “Well, perhaps that could be arranged...there may not be a bath on this ship, but there's certainly one in my rooms in Admiralty House.”
“Oh, I couldn't, ma'am!”
“Of course you could,” Amelia waved her hand again. “Believe me, lieutenant, it's the best thing there is after a long voyage. I certainly used to think so.”
“Used to, ma'am?”
“Well...that was back when I was alone.” Amelia sighed. “Now, of course...”
“There's Delbert?” said Aurora, a little too quickly, and she blushed again as Amelia gave her a knowing smile.
“Indeed there is,” Amelia said. “Do I detect that he has been on your mind as well of late?”
Aurora looked away hurriedly. “I...well, ma'am, after we said goodbye to him together, I thought that...with your permission, of course...and not that it has to happen, but...”
“...perhaps we could be reunited in a similar fashion?” Amelia grinned. “Oh, my dear, you really don't have to be so coy about it. I know how you feel about him. And how he feels for you.”
“I would never presume, ma'am,” said Aurora quietly. “I know that the two of you came first and that I'm...something of a come-lately...”
“Hush, there.” Amelia went back to her and put a hand on her shoulder. “Time isn't what defines the relationships we have with anyone.”
Aurora smiled and looked up. “Thank you, ma'am...I'll try to remember that.”
“See that you do.” Amelia gave her a reassuring smile. “Besides...I'm rather looking forward to seeing Delbert again myself. I could hardly hold it against you.”
“Thank you, ma'am.” Aurora nodded. “I'm...I feel the same way.”
“Good.” Amelia turned her head as there was a knock on the door. “Enter!”
A spacer poked his head around the door and touched his forelock. “Begging your pardon, ma'am, and Captain Rennier's respects, but we're beginning final approach and you're needed on the bridge.”
“Thank you, Mr Talby.” Amelia nodded. “Tell Captain Rennier that we'll be there directly.”
“Right you are, ma'am.” Talby tugged his forelock again and disappeared.
“Almost home, lieutenant,” Amelia remarked. “Only one more thing to do now.”
“I'll do my best to get us into dock in one piece, ma'am,” Aurora grinned.
“See that you do,” Amelia grinned back. “We wouldn't want to disappoint our Delbert, now, would we?”
Rennier saluted as they returned to the bridge.
“Slowing to one-quarter speed, ma'am. The crew are reaching arrival stations.”
Amelia looked at the deck, where spacers were starting to fall into neat, disciplined ranks under the watchful eyes of the petty officers and midshipmen. She turned her eyes aloft and saw the extra lookouts who had been posted along the yards. Bright flags and pennants fluttered from the signal lines between the masts as the ship dressed itself for arrival.
“Very good, flag-captain,” she said. “Is there anything further?”
“Um, a message from the spaceport, ma'am,” said Lieutenant Pike, holding up a piece of paper. “The resupply could take a bit longer than expected...there's bad weather on Montressor Prime. There are storms across the whole continent, apparently.”
“He's right, ma'am,” said Aurora, who was looking at the planet. The main continent was blanketed under heavy cloud and occasional flickers of light showed the presence of raging lightning storms. Amelia turned and saw it herself, and grimaced.
“That's some heavy weather all right,” she muttered.
“No flights from Montressor Prime to Crescentia have been able to leave,” said Pike. “Some of our supplies are still stuck at the planetside depot.”
“Understood, Mr Pike. Thank you.” Amelia nodded, not really worried about the supplies. “We aren't putting to space again in a hurry, at least.”
“No, ma'am.” Pike missed the look of concern that flashed between Amelia and Aurora. Benbow was one of the settlements that would have had all shuttle flights grounded. Unless he had found another way, Doppler was marooned.
“Well, let's not let that slow us down.” Amelia turned to the other officers. “Lieutenant Mayflower?”
“Ma'am?” Aurora clicked her heels.
Amelia waved. “Take us in.”
“Yes, ma'am.” Aurora took her eyes off the storm-shrouded planet and focused on the brilliantly-lit spaceport ahead of them. The great dome of Admiralty House was clearly visible, the flag streaming in the breeze from the slender pole at its crown. Aurora could see the vacant dock they were aiming for, connected to the fleet headquarters by a long raised causeway. She performed some mental calculations and nodded to the helmsman.
“Reduce speed again, helm. Take us in under thrusters only.”
“Thrusters only, aye!”
“Descend negative three and level her out.”
“Negative three and level.”
Amelia watched approvingly as Aurora issued a careful stream of instructions that brought the great ship coasting gently towards its destination. Looking ahead, she could see crowds of dock workers gathering to meet them.
“Hands aloft to furl mainsails!” called Rennier. “Hands fore and aft, stand by on mooring lines!”
“Fire the starboard bow thrusters with a three second burn,” said Aurora. “We've got some lateral drift there.”
“Three seconds, aye.”
Aurora watched the bows stop their sideways motion, pointing directly into the dock. She nodded in satisfaction.
“Stern thrusters ahead five,” she said. “Stand by to reverse on my mark.”
Amelia looked at the crowd thronging the piers. She could see the dockhands preparing their ropes and there was a small honour guard of marines. Scores of civilians had also come to see the flagship, but they were being held back at a respectful distance by a group of autoconstables. Amelia scanned the crowd, hoping to find a familiar face against the odds, but her attention was brought back to the matter at hand by Aurora's crisp voice.
“Reverse thrusters full! All stop!”
“Lines, fore and aft!” Rennier shouted. Heavy ropes uncurled as the crew hurled them over the side of the ship to waiting dockhands, who sent ropes of their own back. Practised hands caught them and made them fast. Amelia watched approvingly as the ship came to a halt, the ropes creaking under the lightest of strains. Rennier turned to her and touched his hat.
“Docking complete, ma'am.”
“Very good, captain. And you as well, navigator.” Amelia smiled at Aurora. “Lower than gangplank and then stand down all hands.”
“Aye, ma'am.” Rennier nodded.
Amelia looked down at the dock, where spaceport officials were already making their way up the gangplank. Rennier went to greet them, but Aurora joined her by the railing and smiled.
“Well, that wasn't so hard after all, ma'am,” she said. “Back home already.”
“Yes...” Amelia searched the crowd one more time and sighed. “Oh, well. You'd best prepare to disembark, lieutenant.”
“Permission to go below, then, ma'am?”
“Granted. Report to me in my quarters in Admiralty House at 1830 hours.” Amelia nodded and watched her go. “Oh, and lieutenant?”
“Ma'am?” Aurora turned at the top of the stairs.
“If you can find out anything from the planet...about Delbert, that is...let me know.”
Aurora touched her hat. “Of course, ma'am. Thank you.”
Crescentia had drifted well into the shade of Montressor by the time Aurora climbed the stairs of Admiralty House towards the admiral's apartments. Looking out of one of the tall windows, she could see the storm system blanketing much of the world, an angry weal of clouds lit by their own lightning. It looked as impressive as the reports made it sound and Crescentia had the best possible view of it. Reaching the big oak double doors, Aurora took a brass key from inside her uniform and opened the lock. Carrying a key to the admiral's private quarters was a privilege of her position. She stepped inside and closed the door behind her. She could hear soft music drifting down the apartment's corridor from the antique gramophone that she knew was kept on top of the drinks cabinet in the private study and smiled at the knowledge that it meant that Amelia was in. She pushed open the door to the study, which had been open a fraction and looked inside. The ornately carved desk had been set up as a table with a white cloth and candles in silver holders. The gramophone played gently on its table against the wall, emitting only the occasional mechanical squeak. Someone had evidently gone to some trouble to set it all up and Aurora stood still to admire it for a moment before she remembered her duty.
“Admiral Amelia, ma'am?”
There was a pause before the door leading from the study to the bedroom opened. Amelia came through and smiled when she saw Aurora waiting for her. Aurora could hear the sound of running water from the bathroom adjacent to the bedroom, but her attention was more immediately seized by Amelia's dressing gown. The admiral had shed her ornate uniform in favour of a plain light blue gown, without any symbols or decoration, tied at the waist by a simple cord. Her feet and hands were bare. Aurora wouldn't have been surprised to see her with a mug of tea in her hand and she took a moment to gather herself enough to salute.
“Reporting as ordered, ma'am.”
“So you are, lieutenant,” Amelia smiled. “What news from Montressor?”
Aurora raised her clipboard. “All bad, I'm afraid, ma'am. Montressor Prime is a no-fly zone. Has been for two days and the storm could last a few days more yet. There was a message from Delbert in your in-tray...he says he's trying to get to Montressor Secondary to take a shuttle from there, but the main road out of Benbow has been cut.”
Amelia sighed. “Poor Delbert...much damage?”
“Some high winds. Localised flooding. But it's the upper atmospheric turbulence that has grounded all the ships,” said Aurora. “Montressor Secondary is more or less clear, but it doesn't have much in the way of port facilities. Neither does Tertiary.”
“Indeed not.” Amelia sighed and sat down at one of the chairs by the desk. “Oh, well. I suppose it can't be helped. Rotten timing, though.”
“It's certainly that, ma'am.” Aurora tried not to look too disappointed. “Has it ever happened to you before?”
“Fortunately not.” Amelia smiled sadly. “Dear Delbert was frightfully punctilious about being dockside to meet me. Even on those occasions where I was late, or he was late...he was always here.”
“I can imagine that he would be,” said Aurora. “He's very devoted to you, ma'am.”
“Among other things,” Amelia smiled at Aurora. “I can just see him trying to argue the toss with the shuttle pilot about getting up here.”
Aurora laughed. “He would, too.”
“Ah, well. As we used to tell each other, absence only makes the heart grow fonder.” Amelia smiled. “How are you pulling up after our little voyage?”
“Oh, I'm fine, ma'am,” said Aurora.
“You thought it went well?”
“Yes, ma'am.” Aurora frowned in puzzlement.
“Good. So did I.” Amelia smiled at the look of relief on her aide's face. “She's a fine ship with a good crew. She'll do us proud.”
“I'm sure of it, ma'am,” said Aurora. “I can see why everyone was so excited about her when she came off the slipway. I've never handled a ship like her.”
“It doesn't show,” said Amelia. “One could have thought that you'd been doing it your whole career.”
Aurora blushed. “Thank...thank you, ma'am. I'm pleased to hear it.”
“It's only a statement of fact,” said Amelia. “Captain Rennier's report will bear me out.”
“Thank you, ma'am. I...really don't know what to say.” Aurora looked away shyly.
“You don't have to say anything, lieutenant,” said Amelia. “Just know it.”
“I...will, ma'am.” Aurora looked up, her lilac eyes focusing on Amelia's again.
“And don't forget it, either,” Amelia said quietly.
“I won't, ma'am.” Aurora smiled and cocked her ear. “Is that the bath you're running?”
“Ah, good job you reminded me.” Amelia stood up. “Indeed it is. I have some aromatics from my last trip out with the Legacy that I haven't had a chance to try yet. Avodarian.”
“I can't say I've heard of them, ma'am.”
“No? Well, you'd best come and take a look, then.” Amelia held open the bedroom door.
Aurora stood up to follow her. “If you're sure, ma'am...”
“Perfectly sure.” Amelia led the way across the soft carpet of the bedroom. Aurora tried not to look at the big four-poster bed in case the thoughts of what had happened for them there distracted her. The bathroom was through a door concealed as a teak panel in the wall that slid neatly to close it. Whichever long-forgotten commander had built and fitted it out, they had clearly held nothing back. A large raised clamshell-shaped bath was the centrepiece, with white marble much in evidence on all the walls and surfaces and with fixtures picked out in gold and silver. Amelia sat on the edge of the bath and dipped her hand in to test the temperature.
“Very impressive, ma'am,” said Aurora, surveying the room.
“Showy, if you ask me,” grinned Amelia, reaching over to open the hot water tap further. “I certainly didn't have anything like this on the Legacy. All you need is the tub...and a few well-chosen accompaniments.”
She reached across to a silver tray that held an array of bottles of every shape and colour. picked up a small glass bottle containing a translucent pink liquid, uncorked it and sniffed it. Even a few feet away, Aurora could almost instantly smell the perfume. She took a deep breath and hummed appreciatively.
“That smells wonderful, ma'am,” she said. “Where did you find this?”
“Oh, I bartered it for it with a merchantman whose ship was in the dock next to mine,” said Amelia. “He needed some supplies that we had.”
“Perhaps you should have been a trader,” grinned Aurora.
Amelia laughed. “Can you imagine my father's face if I'd done that?”
“That's why I'm smiling,” said Aurora.
Amelia laughed again and poured a careful measure of the liquid into the bath, where it started foaming up with alacrity. The steam rising from the hot water was laden with its scent and Aurora closed her eyes as she inhaled it.
“I can see why you made a habit of this after your voyages, ma'am,” she said. “It's wonderfully restful.”
“I highly recommend it,” said Amelia. “In fact...why don't you join me?”
“Ma'am?” Aurora's eyes snapped open. Amelia was right in front of her.
“You heard me, lieutenant,” Amelia said softly. “You said you were interested, didn't you?”
“Well, yes, but-”
“Aurora?”
The younger felinid bit her lip. “Would it be...proper, ma'am?”
“How so?”
“Well...just the two of us...Delbert is probably on the way even if he had to take the long way...”
“Do you think he would mind?” Amelia cocked her head.
Aurora shook hers. “No, ma'am, I think we...understand one another on that front.”
“We certainly do,” Amelia smiled.
Aurora looked at the steaming water again and smelled the flowery scent. It was awfully tempting. Amelia saw the look on her face and saw the desire, but also the restraint. Perhaps she needed a little more encouragement...
“Take your time,” she said, touching Aurora's soft-furred cheek. “The water will keep for a good long while.”
Aurora nodded and looked down, just in time to see Amelia's robe fall open as her other hand deftly undid the knotted cord at her waist. She was naked underneath it. Aurora stared for a fraction of a second too long and looked up hurriedly to see Amelia watching her eyes.
“Ma'am!”
“Oh, hush, now, kitten.” Amelia kissed her tenderly and turned to step into the bath, dropping the robe to the floor. Aurora followed her lithe, tan form as she stood in the foam for a moment before turning to settle down into the far corner of the bath, looking back at Aurora with one eyebrow raised in amusement as she saw her gather up the fallen robe and hang it neatly on the back of the door.
“You can consider yourself off duty now, lieutenant,” she said.
Aurora blushed as she began opening her coat. “I'll try to remember that.”
Amelia sensed her uneasiness at disrobing on such full display, so she turned and occupied herself pretending to examine the labels on the tray of bath fragrances. A small splash caught her attention after a while and she looked back to see Aurora with one foot in the bath and her hands clasped protectively over her breasts, her mustard and white-furred body bared.
“Are...are you sure about this, ma'am?” Aurora's eyes still held a question.
Amelia nodded. “Of course I am, my dear. So long as you are...but whether you come in or stay out, I wouldn't stay standing there for long.”
Aurora blushed self-consciously and climbed into the bath with both feet. She settled into a curved corner and sank down gratefully onto a small shelf that served as a seat. A small sigh escaped her lips as the warm water soaked through her fur and began caressing her body. Small hidden vents in the bath wall kept the water in permanent motion, and the current brushed against her like the gentlest of breezes.
“Oh, ma'am...whoever built this had the right idea...it must be good to be an admiral...”
Amelia grinned. “It has perks. But you don't have to be an admiral to use this, you know...you do have a key to these rooms.”
“Well, yes, ma'am, but it wouldn't be proper.”
“With all due respect, lieutenant,” said Amelia, “You could do with spending a bit less time thinking about what may or may not be proper and more time thinking about what's right. You owe it to yourself, especially now. You did most superbly well. Your first time as principal navigator on a capital ship, I believe?”
“Yes, ma'am. That's right.” Aurora nodded.
“And your first time on a fleet flagship,” Amelia went on. “That raises the stakes higher still.”
“I'm sure you'd have stopped me doing anything foolish,” said Aurora.
“It never occurred to me that I might have to,” Amelia smiled. “I called for you for a reason...well, more than one reason now, of course.”
Aurora smiled. “Thank you, ma'am...it means a lot to me. They all do.”
“I've always believed in giving credit where it's due,” said Amelia.
“But you've given me far more than just credit,” said Aurora, looking down at the layer of foam on the water and lifting a bubble on her fingertip. “This opportunity of serving with you...it's a privilege.”
“It's one well-earned,” Amelia smiled reassuringly. “Now, enough talk about business. We're here to relax, are we not? I'll make it an order if I have to.”
Aurora smiled gratefully. “Yes, ma'am.”
Amelia sat back and yawned languidly. “That's better, now...”
Aurora could feel her muscles relaxing in the warm water. She stretched, arching her back . Amelia watched appreciatively as the motion brought her breasts above the water, glistening wet and foam-capped. Apparently oblivious, Aurora sighed happily and allowed herself to sink deeper into the bath.
“No wonder you got used to this, ma'am...”
Amelia nodded. “It's the little things that matter...they used to be the only thing that mattered to me after a voyage.”
“Used to be?”
“Well...” Amelia smiled. “Then there was Delbert, of course...we promised each other that we were happy to wait whenever my travels parted us. But obviously...how can you be completely happy when you're apart?”
“I understand, ma'am.” Aurora looked down sympathetically. “It must have been dreadfully hard for you both.”
“Worse on Delbert, I always think,” said Amelia. “I had a command to keep me busy...although there were some nights when...you feel the distance.”
“I can imagine it, ma'am,” said Aurora softly. “Even in just two weeks.”
Amelia smiled sadly. “I'm sorry that you have to, my dear.”
“You're worth it,” Aurora looked up at her. “You and Delbert. You both are.”
“Oh, Aurora.” Amelia moved around the bath to her side. “As are you. You bring more than I think you know.”
She reached out a hand underwater, hoping to take hold of Aurora's hand, but her palm instead settled onto the younger felinid's thigh. Aurora sighed, her lips parting slightly at the touch.
“I...certainly hope so, ma'am. I just wish that Delbert were here so I could say that to him as well.”
“You'll have your chance,” Amelia smiled. “He's on the way. I know it. Neither rain nor hail could stop him...and believe me, he's had to put up with both to wait for me.”
Aurora smiled. “I'm glad to hear it, ma'am. You're very lucky.”
“Yes.” Amelia smiled back. “We are.”
Aurora blushed. “Yes...of course.”
“And the wait does make...certain things all the better for the anticipation,” Amelia grinned.
Aurora laughed. “I can see that it would, ma'am.”
Amelia smiled fondly. “Delbert and I always found a way to make it special.”
“I am sorry he's not here, ma'am,” said Aurora. “I'm sure that you two would have had special plans.”
“You say that as if you're not part of the equation,” Amelia chided her gently. “But no, no plans...we never do...we always just took things as we pleased. Dinner, perhaps...a walk along the docks...stargazing from his observatory...”
“Those sound like wonderful memories,” Aurora smiled.
“Yes...but without him here...” Amelia looked at Aurora thoughtfully, “...we may have to make our own entertainment for now.”
“Is there anything I can get for you, ma'am?” asked Aurora.
Amelia couldn't help smiling at her flag-lieutenant's innocence. “No, Miss Mayflower...you stay right where you are. We have everything we need.”
Aurora smiled. “Indeed we do, ma'am. I haven't felt this relaxed in weeks. I always tried to make time for myself on the voyage, but there are things one can't do on a ship in space.”
“Quite so.” Amelia moved closer, still smiling. “Not even when you're so close to the person in question...”
“Ma'am?”
Underwater, Amelia's hand returned further up Aurora's thigh. “Well, my dear...two weeks in close proximity to you...it's enough to drive any sentient being to distraction...and I do mean that in a very caring way.”
Their lips met as Amelia closed the distance between them. Aurora sighed and felt herself tense again before relaxing. Amelia saw her lilac eyes drift close and deepened the kiss.
“We don't often have time like this together,” she whispered, stroking Aurora's cheek. “I do wonder whether we should seize the opportunity while we have it.”
Aurora looked up into her green gaze and found herself nodding. “Y...yes, ma'am.”
“Very good, then,” Amelia kissed her again and moved around in front of Aurora to straddle her. Aurora put her arms instinctively around Amelia, holding her close. Amelia's breasts were exposed by the foam, pressing into Aurora's as the younger felinid arched her back to meet her lips again. Amelia's hands stroked her blonde hair aside and trailed down her neck to her black-striped shoulders. Aurora felt herself being pressed gently but irresistibly back against the curved side of the bath and sighed happily as she looked up at Amelia.
“Oh, ma'am...”
“My dear navigator,” Amelia purred. “You really must learn to relax.”
“I'll...try to, ma'am...” Aurora swallowed. “But you're making it rather difficult...”
“Am I now?” Amelia smiled, moving her hands forward over Aurora's shoulders and resting her palms on her white-furred breasts. Aurora felt herself arch instinctively again, pressing herself into Amelia's touch. She sighed again.
“Oh, yes...somewhat...”
Amelia flexed her fingers, enjoying the soft resilience of the mounds they were cupping. “I do apologise, darling. I assure you that my intentions are nothing but good...”
“I'm sure they are, ma'am.” Aurora gazed up at her. “I trust you...I always trust you.”
“As I trust you,” Amelia kissed her lightly. “This goes no further than you want it to, sweet Aurora...just say the word.”
“I don't think I ever would.” Aurora could feel her own heart beating faster under Amelia's soft touch on her chest. She raised her head again and pressed her lips to Amelia's, who responded in kind. She reached out a hand to the tray of bottles and took up a square one. Aurora watched her tip a liberal handful into her palm curiously. Amelia winked and began lathering her blonde tresses gently. Aurora shivered and closed her eyes.
“Oh, admiral...”
“Hmm?” Amelia smiled. She dug her fingers through Aurora's hair until their tips were massaging her scalp. Aurora shivered exultantly and lay back. Amelia washed her hair slowly, gently, noting with interest the way it darkened and changed colour as it was soaked. She cupped her hands and lifted water to rinse it out. Aurora bowed her head, closing her eyes as she felt the hot water sluicing down her face. Her mouth opened as her breathing slowed and deepened, though she could still feel her heart racing. She opened her eyes briefly and was greeted by the sight of Amelia's smooth, glistening body right in front of her, fully exposed by the descending foam, and mewed softly. Amelia lowered her head to Aurora's ear and mewed in return, taking the sensitive ear in her lips briefly.
“There you go, my dear,” Amelia murmured. “Not that it needed it...you really must tell me one day how you keep it so clean in space.”
“I don't think you have anything to worry about there, ma'am,” Aurora gazed up at her. “You look...fine.”
“Just fine?” Amelia smiled wryly.
Aurora blushed. “Well, I mean you look...you look...very fine, ma'am. Very fine indeed.”
Amelia grinned, settling back into the bath. “I'm glad you think so.”
“I more than think so, ma'am...” Aurora reached a hand out to touch Amelia's face. Amelia drew nearer, closing the distance between them with a kiss. Her hands underwater rested on Aurora's thighs again and began gently parting them. Aurora allowed it to bring Amelia closer, but an inquiring and more intimate touch made her jump.
“Is this all right, my dear?” Amelia looked at her with genuine concern. Aurora nodded hastily.
“Oh, yes, ma'am. Please...”
Amelia kissed her again, her fingers tracing slow circles around Aurora's secret. “Please...what?”
Aurora felt her cheeks burning, but she knew what she felt. “Please, ma'am...don't stop...”
“I wouldn't dream of it,” Amelia closed her eyes and kissed her again. “Not when it's so much fun...”
“Oh, ma'am...” Aurora gave a small mew as Amelia's finger found her entrance and gently slipped its way inside her. She gripped Amelia's shoulders and nuzzled her neck. Amelia nuzzled her back, small kisses on her neck working their way around to find Aurora's scruff. Amelia bit it softly and felt Aurora relaxing back against the side of the bath, her hands going limp and then falling from her shoulders and her legs parting further. Amelia purred her approval and brought her lips back to Aurora's, increasing and deepening the touch between her thighs. Aurora's head rolled back, allowing Amelia access to her smooth neck. The admiral's kisses fell like feathers and she sighed, tilting her head back to draw her closer. Amelia took the unspoken offer willingly, her kisses quickening until Aurora could hardly tell them apart. She felt Amelia's teeth nipping at her mustard fur and mewed quietly. Amelia's lips returned to hers to quiet her.
“Aurora, dearest,” Amelia whispered.
“My admiral,” Aurora moaned as Amelia's finger slipped a little deeper.
“Yes, lieutenant. All yours.” Amelia kissed her again, reaching past her towards the tray. Her hand curled around an object and picked it up. She broke off her attentions briefly to examine it critically. Reaching a decision, she grinned and moved it below the water and foam before her lover could see it. Aurora's eyes were closed in any case as she rode the waves of pleasure that Amelia was bestowing on her, but they snapped open again as she felt Amelia's fingers withdraw and their place be taken by something more rounded and substantial.
“Ma'am! What's...I mean, is that...”
“Space can get awfully lonely sometimes,” Amelia murmured, stroking Aurora's hair. “Especially once I had to start leaving Delbert behind and I knew what I was missing out on...but fortunately there are...substitutes available in certain ports, if one knows where to look.”
“Substitutes?”
Amelia smiled at her young navigator's naivete. “Oh, sweet, innocent Miss Mayflower...I can't promise the same effect or response as one would get from dear Delbert, of course. It is but a toy...but I do hope it can tide you over...if I may?”
Aurora felt the toy pressing against her again. She looked up into Amelia's loving green eyes and nodded breathlessly.
“Of course, ma'am.”
Amelia kissed her thanks. “Try to relax, my darling.”
Aurora nodded and took a deep breath. Amelia nuzzled her head aside and closed her mouth around her scruff again, applying a gentle pressure to elicit the instinctive reaction all felinids shared. As Aurora sighed and went limp, she moved to slip the toy inside her. Aurora gasped and her eyes opened again, but Amelia kissed her reassuringly and made small movements to allow her to get used to the strange feeling. Any discomfort was soon massaged away and Aurora found herself quite enjoying the feelings. Amelia's application of the toy was deft and gentle, and she took her time lovingly, whispering adorations into Aurora's ear and bestowing small kisses, licks and bites to the side of her head and neck.
“You're really quite divine, dear Aurora,” she murmured.
“Oh, ma'am, truly...you're making me feel that way right now...” Aurora moaned as a warm wave of pleasures washed through her.
“So I can tell.” Amelia grinned. “Can I assume, then, that you've been missing this?”
“It's...been a long couple of weeks, ma'am,” Aurora blushed.
“It has been,” Amelia agreed, turning her head with a finger to her cheek and kissing her deeply. “You must have missed our Delbert quite considerably...”
“Yes, ma'am, but...” Aurora raised a hand to Amelia's own cheek. “...not just him.”
Amelia felt her heart lift and she smiled. “I'm most encouraged to hear that, Miss Mayflower.”
“You're...really quite something as well, ma'am,” said Aurora, gazing into Amelia's eyes. Their lips met again softly. Amelia leaned forwards to press Aurora gently back, one hand still working her with the toy, the other gently coming to rest on her breast. Aurora sighed happily as Amelia massaged the soft mount, lightly pinching the nipple between her fingers. She teased it erect before soothing it with her mouth, making Aurora moan again at the rough tough of her tongue. The younger felinid's body quaked as a pulse of pleasure ran through her. Amelia looked up with interest, migrating her kisses from Aurora's breast to her collarbone, her neck and finally to her gasping mouth. Her lilac eyes were closed tight as she concentrated on nothing but the feelings Amelia was bestowing on her. Another wave was building inside her and she clasped her hands to Amelia's back to draw her closer. Amelia could feel her claws, a sure sign of agitation in a felinid, especially one that normally kept her instincts so tightly controlled. She grinned at the thought of what she was arousing in her and redoubled her efforts. Aurora shuddered, her breath coming quick and shallow as she felt herself nearing her climax.
“I'm so close, ma'am...so close!” Aurora gasped.
“I know, my love,” Amelia kissed her neck and nuzzled her furiously. “Take your time, sweet Aurora. Take your time.”
“It won't take much...” Aurora's eyes snapped open and stared wildly at Amelia. “Oh, stars, ma'am...”
“Call me Amelia,” Amelia urged her gently.
Aurora's eyes widened further. “Ame...Amelia...Amelia, yes! Oh, Amelia!”
She kept her eyes focused, so Amelia was able to watch the fireworks that went off behind them as she peaked. Aurora's body bucked and Amelia positioned herself over her to hold her down. She cradled the back of Aurora's head, whispering encouragement to her to enjoy every moment. Aurora's cries of pleasure slowed as the pulses of light in her body died away and she drew a deep breath as she felt Amelia withdraw the toy.
“Oh, Amelia, ma'am...” she gazed at her helplessly.
“There you go, kitten,” Amelia stroked her blonde hair, holding her head to her chest. “There you go.”
Aurora took some time to get her breath back, and her heart was still racing when she managed it. Swallowing hard, she raised her head and looked up at Amelia, who was gazing down at her lovingly.
“Thank...thank you, ma'am.”
“The pleasure was all mine, my dear,” Amelia kissed her forehead.
Aurora grinned weakly. “Oh, I very much doubt that. With all due respect.”
“Well,” Amelia kissed her lips, which were still trembling slightly, “the honour is most assuredly mine, at least.”
Aurora sighed and let herself slip deeper into the warm bath, a feeling of absolute relaxation and contentment settling over her. “Only if you say so, ma'am.”
“I most assuredly do.” Amelia kissed her striped forehead and settled next to her. Aurora's hand found hers under the water and squeezed it.
“So...does Delbert know about your, er, toy, ma'am?”
“Know about it?” Amelia grinned. “I've threatened to use it on him once or twice.”
Aurora laughed. “I can just picture his face at the thought!”
“I'm not sure that he even knew what one was,” Amelia smiled.
“I can't imagine that he gave much thought to the subject before,” Aurora rested her head on Amelia's shoulder. “You must have been quite the education for him, ma'am.”
“And him for me, my dear.” Amelia nuzzled Aurora fondly.
“And the both of you for me.” Aurora smiled.
“I didn't think I could get much luckier after Delbert,” said Amelia, patting Aurora's hand. “But I'm quite pleased to have been proven wrong.”
“Oh, ma'am.” Aurora blushed. “It's an honour to serve you.”
“You do more than that, and don't you ever forget it,” Amelia noted.
Aurora looked up and met her eyes. “I won't, ma'am,” she smiled. “I promise.”
Delbert Doppler stepped off the shuttle in Crescentia and felt like dropping to his knees and kissing the ground. Instead, he contented himself with fondly patting the wrought iron lamppost on the end of the pier and breathing a fervent sigh of relief. Finding the only shuttle pilot willing to brave the weather had been difficult, but fortunately the Royal Mail had lived up to its reputation for determination. Behind him, stevedores were already unloading the sacks of mail that had remained intact. Many had burst open during the journey and Doppler had spent most of the voyage sliding around the hold, frantically trying to grab any available handhold. Looking back, he could scarcely believe that it had worked. The mail clipper had at least three broken yards and it seemed miraculous that none of the masts had snapped. Shredded sails hung limply, the crew not even bothering to furl them but instead cutting them away with long knives.
“Bit of an adventure, that,” the clipper's captain, a stocky green Benbonian, joined him. His uniform was soaked from the storm they had flown through, but the amphibian showed no discomfort. “Still, no harm done, right?”
“So it appears.” Doppler nodded. “I'm indebted to you.”
The captain shrugged. “Happy to help. Whatever it was you had to get up here for, it must be important.”
Doppler looked across the roofscape of Crescentia to the great dome of Admiralty House. Along with the broad Imperial ensign, a smaller yellow flag had been hoisted up the mast to indicate the presence of the flag officer commanding. He felt his heart lift at the sight.
“Yes...it was. Is, I mean.”
The captain coughed and nudged Doppler meaningfully. The canid sighed and fished in an inner pocket of his burgundy red coat, producing a small leather pouch. He tipped a handful of gold coins into his hand and passed them to the captain discreetly. They disappeared somewhere about the small Benbonian's person and he tipped the damp brim of his battered hat.
“Much obliged, sir. Good day to you.”
“And to you.” Doppler watched him go and, after another moment or two to catch his breath, set off to find a taxi.
Aurora stretched out and luxuriated in the bath. Heated circuits were maintaining the water temperature even as it was circulated around them by the pumps. She marvelled at the privileges available to the flag ranks, and while she knew that Amelia would never have installed such luxuries herself she was glad that she didn't mind using what was already in place. As if to prove her casual attitude towards indulgences, Amelia sat opposite her, busily writing in a book held before her by a long, gilt articulated arm that was fixed to the marble side of the tub.
“Now...we passed the Meison Belt at a distance of what...nine kilometres?”
“Nine point three four,” said Aurora quickly, before adding, “Ma'am. Nine was the original plan but the level of particle activity proved higher than anticipated so you authorised me to take us out a bit further.”
“Ah, yes.” Amelia smiled. “So I did.”
“We might have been able to get closer,” said Aurora, “But the instruments might have been affected and we'd have had to use visual rangefinding. Under the circumstances, it was deemed too great a risk.”
“Indeed it was.” Amelia completed a line. “What would I do without you, my dear?”
Aurora smiled shyly. “I'm sure you'd manage, ma'am.”
“Only when I'm not flying my flagship into particle bursts,” Amelia grinned.
Aurora chuckled. “So do you always complete your log in the bath, ma'am?”
“Oh, sometimes,” said Amelia. “As you'd know, it's best to do these things while your memory is fresh. And here I am still relying on your own recall.”
Aurora shrugged. “I'd be derelict in my duty if I couldn't remember the course I'd charted.”
“Your devotion does you credit.” Amelia smiled at her and pushed the book holder aside. “Would you care for a drink, lieutenant? You are off duty, remember.”
“A drink, ma'am?” Aurora hesitated. “Um...of what?”
“Delbert moved some of his cellar into the private kitchen up here,” said Amelia. “Red? White? Green? It's up to you.”
“I'm all right with purp juice, ma'am, really.”
“Are you sure?” Amelia raised an eyebrow. “It's really no trouble. And we have something to celebrate, after all, with a successful cruise behind us.”
“I'm sure, ma'am.” Aurora nodded. “Would you like me to go and get it?”
“No, no. How many times do I have to tell you that you're off duty?” Amelia grinned. She moved across the bath to the edge and climbed out. Aurora politely averted her eyes as Amelia towelled herself down and padded silently out of the room. Left alone, she let her eyes roam around the room once more. Noticing that the level of the bubbles in the warm water had lowered, she moved across to the tray of bottles and began glancing over the labels. She felt a thrill run down her spine as her eyes alighted on what Amelia had used to pleasure her so well and she couldn't help running her fingers over its shape fondly. Shaking herself, she turned back to the bottles and selected a new one. She turned on the tap to pour more hot water into the bath and tipped a liberal quantity of the floral-scented liquid into the stream. Fresh bubbles blossomed quickly and she sat back in satisfaction to watch them.
Amelia drew her gown around her as she took down a pair of glasses from a shelf and arranged them on a small silver tray. The private apartment had its own small kitchen, but Amelia seldom used it, preferring her steward to work from the main mess galley downstairs. She rarely took her meals up here anyway, and the pots and pans that hung from their hooks on the wall had a faint patina of dust on them. Amelia made a mental note to have that seen to. Her hand hovered over the wine rack for a moment before she took a bottle of purple juice and put it on the tray. As she turned to leave, she heard one of the small service bells on the wall ring brightly. Looking around in surprise, she saw that it was the bell connected to the front door of the apartment to alert any staff in the kitchen to the arrival of a visitor. Surprised, she glanced at the clock on the wall to check the time, put the tray down and went to investigate. Peering out into the hall, she saw a familiar figure closing the door behind him.
“Well, well. I hadn't expected to see you here, doctor.”
Doppler turned and smiled. “You didn't think I'd miss your return, did you?”
“Apparently not.” Amelia put the tray down on a side table and went to greet him, enjoying the momentary puzzlement on his face at the sight of her dressing gown. “I just didn't think you'd make it. We heard that flights from Montressor had been grounded by the storms.”
“Yes, well, I have my ways.” Doppler kissed her softly as they put their arms around each other. “It turns out that there's at least one ship's captain who is as crazy as you used to be when you had the Legacy.”
“I prefer the word 'daring', myself.” Amelia kissed him back. “Well. No doubt you'll be able to tell us how you did it.”
“I'd be glad to.” Doppler glanced at the tray she had just put aside. “Er...Amelia?”
“Hmm?” She kissed his nose.
“If you weren't expecting me...why do you have two glasses?”
Amelia looked around at the tray.
“Oh, yes...Aurora is here as well,” she said.
“Aurora?” Doppler smiled. “I was wondering.'
“You'd better join us,” Amelia picked up the tray and passed it to him. “I'll just get us a third glass, but you go on ahead. She'll be in the bathroom.”
“Bathroom? Ah, yes, your traditional post-voyage...er, tradition.” Doppler took the tray and smiled. “Don't keep us waiting.”
“As if I would.” Amelia kissed him again and disappeared back towards the kitchenette. Doppler followed the sound of running water down the hall to the main bedroom and from there into the adjoining bathroom.
“I refreshed the fragrance, if you don't mind, ma'am,” Aurora's voice came through the door. “I hope it's not too strong.”
“On the contrary, it smells wonderful.” He pushed open the door, expecting to see the admiral's aide standing by the bath. He was surprised to see her sitting in it instead. Her back was towards him, but she turned quickly at the sound of his voice.
“Delbert! You're here!”
“Miss Mayflower! Er, yes, yes, I am.” Doppler tried to keep his eyes on hers. “Er...I just got here...Amelia is just bringing something from the kitchen, but she asked me to bring this in here...um...is there somewhere I can put it?”
Aurora pointed to a flat space by the side of the tub. “Just there should be fine...please forgive me for not getting up...”
Doppler saw her uniform lying in a neatly-folded stack by the gown hooks. “No, I, er...quite understand.”
Aurora watched him deposit the tray, sinking slightly lower into the new layer of bubbles. She was pleased to see the canid, but was aware that the situation she was in was somewhat awkward. Apparently aware of it as well, Doppler sat on the edge of the bath, carefully keeping her out of his line of sight.
“So...how did the voyage go?”
“Perfectly well,” Aurora said. “No major problems. And the Lyonesse really is quite a marvellous ship.”
“I'm sure she is.” Doppler nodded at Amelia's book. “And I suppose you and Amelia have been composing her report? I know her habits well enough to guess that.”
“Er, yes, doctor...among other things.” Aurora looked up at him and reached out a hand towards his. “We've both...missed you terribly.”
Doppler felt her damp, warm touch on his hand and looked down at it. He smiled. “And I've missed the two of you very much.”
Amelia arrived with the third glass and smiled. “I see you two have started getting reacquainted.”
“Yes, ma'am,” Aurora smiled up at Doppler.
“Excellent.” Amelia put the glass on the tray. “Well...since we're all here...”
She poured out three glasses of juice and passed them around. Doppler smiled.
“An excellent idea. What's the toast?”
“The Queen, ma'am?” said Aurora, who, as the most junior officer, was traditionally expected to make the toast in formal situations.
“To the Queen,” Amelia agreed, “and to successful voyages...and to happy reunions...”
“Hear, hear.” Doppler took a sip and smiled. “It really is wonderful to see you again. Both of you.”
“And you as well, dear Delbert.” Amelia kissed him. “And I sense you refreshed the bath, lieutenant?”
“Yes, ma'am. Do you approve?”
“I certainly do.” Amelia smiled and put her glass side. “And since you did...we might as well put it to use.”
She turned away, undoing her gown and moving to hang it back on the hook. Doppler enjoyed the rear view of her naked body for a moment before she turned, winked, and stepped back into the bath.
“Oh, yes...well done, lieutenant. Top marks.”
Aurora grinned. “Thank you, ma'am.”
Amelia settled back and looked up at Doppler quizzically. Doppler coughed and shifted on the edge of the tub.
“Um...Aurora said that the mission was a success.”
“Quite so. With some thanks to her, of course,” Amelia said. “On a first operational cruise, you're always looking for something to go wrong, but the ship couldn't have behaved better.”
“I'm glad to hear it.”
“Of course, it wasn't a very long cruise,” said Aurora. “But I'm glad to be back all the same.”
“I'm sure you are,” Doppler coughed again. Some bubbles had caught on the cuff of his coat as it had trailed too low and he held it up to blow them off.
“Are you planning on sitting there all night, dear doctor?” Amelia grinned at the sight of him. “You know, the water is quite pleasant.”
“And there's plenty of room.” Aurora shifted aside, hoping that she hadn't sounded too eager.
“Er, yes...”
“You've always been happy to share with me after a voyage,” Amelia said comfortingly. “I trust that Aurora's presence isn't putting you off.”
Doppler looked down at her and smiled nervously. “No, not at all...”
“I'm glad of that, doctor.” Aurora touched his hand again.
Doppler blushed and looked away, but the idea had some appeal. “Well...I suppose the bubbles do smell rather nice...”
“There you are, then.” Amelia smiled.
“Please join us, Delbert,” Aurora said softly.
“As if I could refuse that,” Doppler smiled and stood to shed his coat. He was somewhat uncertain as he began on his other garments, but Amelia and Aurora were discussing technical aspects of the voyage behind him. Aurora couldn't help stealing a sideways glance just as he finished undressing, enjoying the sight of his brown-furred body, and she looked back to see that Amelia had done likewise. Uncertain at first, trying to cover himself with one hand, Doppler tested the water before stepping into it and sinking down. He exhaled gratefully as the warm water soaked through his fur and began soothing the bumps he had suffered in the journey to Crescentia.
“Oh, dear...yes, I can see why you always insist on this...”
“I could name a few reasons for that,” Amelia winked.
“How did you even get here, doctor?” asked Aurora. “I understood that the storm had closed the ports.”
“It had, mostly,” said Doppler. “But fortunately I was able to find a mail ship that was late. You know how the Royal Mail is with always delivering on time. So I sort of...hitched a ride with them. For better or worse.” He rubbed his shoulder ruefully.
“Really?” Amelia grinned. “You stowed away?”
“Not exactly.”
“Quite inventive, doctor,” said Aurora. “I'd been wondering how you managed it.”
Doppler shrugged. “And once I got here, I just just made my way up...fortunately I have that key you gave me.”
“I'm glad that came in handy,” Amelia smiled. “Although you realise that if you're here without authorisation, I can have you arrested and detained.”
Doppler laughed. “Well, I suppose I'll just have to throw myself on your mercy, my love.”
“Always a risky decision,” Amelia grinned and moved towards him. “But I suppose in this case I could show...leniency. What do you think, flag-lieutenant?”
Aurora smiled and moved over as well. “At your discretion, ma'am. You could always let him go.”
“Oh, I wouldn't go that far,” Amelia's hand found Doppler's under the water. “I want to keep him right where I can see him...”
“Good idea, ma'am.” Aurora settled next to Doppler, smiling shyly. “One can't be too careful.”
Doppler smiled back at her. “Neither of you need to be careful with me.”
“Perish the thought.” Amelia smiled. “We're just glad to see you. We've missed you. And I know it isn't easy for you, being left behind.”
“It's not,” Doppler shook his head. “But it's worth it.”
Aurora put a hand on his shoulder and glanced at Amelia, as if for permission. It was given with a small nod, and Aurora rose up to kiss him gently.
“It is for us as well, Delbert,” she whispered.
Doppler sighed into the kiss and raised a finger to brush her cheek. “Oh, Miss Mayflower...”
“It's Aurora,” she smiled. “How often must you be told.”
“Aurora.” Doppler smiled with relief.
She mewed contentedly and rested against him, her head on his shoulder. Amelia drew herself up on his other side, turned his head and kissed him again. “I concur,” she said quietly.
Doppler held her close against him. “I really must be the most fortunate canid in the Empire.”
“Perhaps just the most handsome,” Amelia gave his cheek a playful lick.
“Or the most ingenious,” Aurora repeated the gesture.
“Or the most intriguing,” Amelia kissed him.
“But definitely the brightest-blushing,” Aurora grinned.
Amelia laughed and kissed Doppler's nose. “You really are too much fun, my dear.”
Doppler coughed. “Well, I can hardly be blamed for the effect you have on me.”
Amelia nuzzled him and lay against his shoulder, toying idly with the tuft of fur in the centre of his chest. On his other side, Aurora gave a small purr before she cleared her throat self-consciously.
“Ahem. Well. I trust that all was well in our absence, doctor?”
“Oh, yes. Nothing but rain.” Doppler sighed. “The Montressorian spring is a good time to be in space. At least that way you can see something. I've been totally unable to make any observations.”
“You poor thing.” Aurora's sympathy was genuine, as the navigator shared Doppler's love of the stars. “I'm so sorry.”
“Can't be helped.” Doppler shrugged, accidentally displacing both felinids. “Oh, I'm sorry...”
“It's quite all right,” Amelia patted his hand and settled back down. “I'm sure that was very frustrating.”
“It was, rather.” Doppler smiled sadly. “I must confess, when you're away I do tend to rely more on my stargazing to get me through the nights...”
Amelia squeezed his hand. “I know you do, my love. I'm sorry.”
“I know it's not easy for you, either.” Doppler kissed her hair. “And for you, Aurora, of course.”
“It's hard to get particularly bored on a ship of war,” said Aurora, smiling. “Especially with the Admiral as your commanding officer.”
“That had better not be mutinous talk there, navigator,” Amelia grinned. “I'll take it as a compliment, though.”
“It was meant as one, ma'am,” Aurora grinned back. “There was quite a lot of activity around the Meison Belt, you see, doctor.”
“I'd heard that there was,” Doppler nodded. “If only I'd been able to see it.”
Aurora kissed him. “Perhaps we should try to talk the Admiral into letting you come on our next cruise as a special civilian observer.”
Doppler chuckled. “It's not that I don't appreciate the thought, but I wonder about the practicalities.”
“It's not impossible,” said Amelia. “But it would take some justifying. Maybe if there was something extraordinary happening.”
“There's always something extraordinary wherever you are,” Doppler kissed her. Amelia smiled and stroked his hair.
“You soppy old romantic, Delbert Doppler.”
He shrugged again. “Can you blame me?”
“I certainly can't,” Aurora rested her hand on his chest. “It was a perfect voyage...but I'm glad to be back.”
Amelia picked up a bar of soap and began running it over Doppler's fur slowly. “As am I, lieutenant. As am I.”
Doppler sighed at her gentle touch. “You really don't have to do that.”
“To do what, my dear?” Amelia smiled innocently.
“Is something bothering you, doctor?” Aurora smiled as well, taking her cue and starting to massage his fur into a lather.
“Er, well...”
“We have both missed you, after all.”
The look in Aurora's lilac eyes at that sentence was more than Doppler could bear. He kissed her softly, making her purr deepen for a moment. Amelia rinsed off his chest and began guiding him to stand. He hesitated for a moment before complying. The foam preserved his modesty for a few seconds before gravity did its work and he had to put his hands over himself. Amelia stood beside him, pressing her body against his, one arm around his while her other worked the soap in smooth circles down his arms and stomach. Aurora knelt next to him, taking up a flannel to wash him down. She ran her eyes over him, enjoying the way his wet fur followed the contours of his lanky frame and the drops of water that fell from his short tail.
“You're quite beautiful, Delbert,” Amelia murmured in his ear. Doppler felt her breast press against his arm and whined.
“Oh, Amelia...”
She kissed him deeply, clasping his head to hers. Aurora took advantage of his distracted to gently move his hands away from himself and she felt her heartbeat rise as she saw him fully exposed. It was clear that their ministrations were having a decided effect on the canid, and his manhood was already emerging from his sheath as it responded. Doppler heard her small intake of breath and blushed. Amelia heard it too and looked down.
“You seem to approve, Miss Mayflower,” she said.
Aurora blushed too. “I...I do, ma'am.”
“Good.” Amelia's lips closed around Doppler's ear, making him yelp softly. “So do I.”
Doppler shivered. “Oh, you two...you really are just too much for anyone...”
“So long as we're enough for you, my dear.” Amelia kissed his ear again and began drawing a trail down his body with the soap. Doppler tensed as it passed over his stomach and went lower still. Smooth and slippery with lather, Amelia's hand caressed his arousal, coaxing it to its full length. Aurora took the soap and ran it between his legs, cupping him and massaging him. He whimpered and Amelia felt his shaft stiffen in her hand.
“Easy there, sweet Delbert,” she whispered. “Just relax...”
“I'm...trying to...” Doppler shuddered. “Oh, Aurora...”
The younger felinid's hand was rubbing his knot lovingly. “Yes, my love?”
Doppler moaned again. “As if you don't know perfectly well...”
Aurora began soaping his legs, starting from the inner thighs. “You can hardly blame me...”
“Indeed not.” Amelia kissed Doppler's ear, wrapping her arms around him, pressing her breasts into his back. “He is quite distracting.”
“You both seem to have your minds on the, er, job,” Doppler protested.
“You do give us quite a lot to think about, doctor,” Aurora emphasised the point. “Do you think he's about ready, ma'am?”
“I think he is, lieutenant, yes.” Amelia smiled.
“R...ready for what?” Doppler looked around at her.
She kissed him. “I'll think of something.”
Aurora put aside the soap and sat up a bit higher, enabling her to place a loving, lingering kiss of the tip of Doppler's arousal. He jumped and Amelia held him steady. Grinning, Aurora worked her way up his body until she stood naked before him. She slipped her arms around his body and drew herself in, pressing the canid between her and Amelia. Almost overwhelmed by the warm and softness that surrounded him, Doppler was speechless. He leaned his head forward and Aurora willingly met his lips in a kiss that quickly deepened.
“My, my,” Amelia watched with interest. “You two have missed each other.”
Aurora blushed. “I...I mean you no disrespect, ma'am.”
“And I certainly don't either,” Doppler hastily added.
Amelia laughed. “Oh, I know. But since you need to be reacquainted...”
“Yes, ma'am?” Aurora could feel Doppler's hardness against her stomach as she stood against him. Amelia grinned wolfishly.
“Well...”
They entered the bedroom with some difficulty, Amelia leading Aurora by the hand. Near the edge of big four-poster bed they halted and looked back as Doppler hurriedly dried himself with a towel.
“You'd better hurry up with that, my dear,” Amelia said, winking at Aurora.
“As fast as I can,” Doppler muttered. “I wouldn't want to damage your carpet in here.”
“I'm sure it's had worse than water,” Amelia said.
Doppler emerged, the towel around his waist. Amelia raised an eyebrow at the sight of it.
“And...just what did you think you'd need that for?”
“Er...well, if there are any drips...”
Aurora smiled. “That's very thoughtful of you, doctor.”
“It's all very well.” Amelia smiled too. “But I hope you've not forgotten why we're here...”
She turned Aurora to face Doppler as if displaying her form. Doppler smiled shyly.
“As if I could forget.”
“I certainly haven't.” Amelia kissed the younger felinid, gently but firmly guiding her backwards until her knees met the edge of the mattress. Understanding what was expected of her, Aurora let herself be laid down across the covers. Amelia advanced over her on all fours, providing Dopper with a view that made his breath catch. She met Aurora's lips once again, stroking her blonde hair back from her striped forehead.
“Is this all right, my dear?” she whispered.
Aurora nodded, touching her cheek. “Absolutely all right, ma'am.”
Amelia kissed her forehead and turned to face Doppler, still straddling Aurora's body. She ran her hand down Aurora's flanks and around to her inner thighs, coaxing her legs apart as Doppler approached hesitantly.
“Isn't she beautiful, Delbert?” Amelia murmured.
Doppler took in Aurora's slender legs and the secret nestled in a bed of soft white fur her spread revealed between them. “She certainly is.”
Aurora shifted on the bed, feeling heat rising to her cheeks at the thought of being so intimately on display.
Doppler knelt before her, allowing the towel to drop away, and looked up at Amelia, who nodded, still smiling enigmatically. Smiling his thanks in return, he lowered his head toward's the younger felinid's sex. Her view obscured by Amelia's hindquarters and back, Aurora couldn't see him and her surprise at the warm touch of his tongue was genuine.
“Oh, doctor!”
Doppler could tell she was already quite aroused, and the perfume in the bathwater had added an inviting new component to the scent and taste of her sex and he explored it keenly. Aurora gasped at the feel of his kisses and licks. Amelia looked down at him approvingly
“There you go, my darling,” she whispered.
Doppler looked up at her. “Amelia...”
“Shh.” She kissed him deeply, tasting Aurora in his mouth. “Don't stop.”
Doppler smiled at her. “Aye, aye, ma'am.”
“There's a good pup,” Amelia murmured and kissed him again. Doppler lowered his head and Aurora shivered as his lips closed on her again.
“Delbert...” she murmured. “Oh, yes...”
Taking that as encouragement, Doppler ran his tongue the length of her slit, curling it around the small bud at her apex. She moaned and clutched at Amelia's hips. She was surprised at her own sensitivity, presumably lingering from the pleasure Amelia had given her, and her body responded quickly to Doppler's adoration. She shifted on the bed, only to bring herself into a more comfortable position, but it seemed to Doppler that she was trying to press herself more firmly into his mouth and tongue and he reacted accordingly, grasping her hips and holding her against him. Aurora's eyes widened briefly and she gasped breathlessly.
“Careful with our Aurora there, Delbert,” Amelia joked. “We wouldn't want anything happening to her...too soon, at least.”
She took over from Doppler at holding Aurora's body to the bed allowing him to bring his hands down and under Aurora's body, raising her towards him and cupping her striped backside. His thumbs stroked down her inner thighs to the lips of her entrance and began massing her in small circles. Aurora exulted in the touch of his thumbpads and spread her legs further for him. Doppler, lost in her scent, parted her lips to enable him to press his tongue into her, tasting her more deeply than ever.
“Oh, my...” Aurora felt a wave of warmth wash through her. Amelia pressed her more firmly against the bed, moving to position herself squarely above her. Looking up between Amelia's own legs, Aurora saw her opportunity. As much as she was enjoying basking in the affections of her lovers, the urge was strong to contribute. Repositioning her hands on Amelia's hips, she raised her head and opened her mouth. She could almost feel the heat radiating from Amelia's sex as she kissed it. Amelia mewed in response. Doppler looked up at the unexpected sound and saw the reason for it. He grinned up at Amelia as her eyes fluttered closed for a moment before he resumed his attentions on Aurora. Wetting a finger, he slipped it inside her, making her go rigid for a moment and give a muffled cry. Her head fell back onto the covers as she drew a deep breath.
“Oh, Delbert...oh, stars...”
Amelia reached down to stroke Doppler's hair. “Don't stop for her, my love,” she whispered.
Doppler lapped at her harder, driving her towards her next peak. He pressed insider her, seeking the sensitive place that he knew was there. His finger pad found it and Aurora jumped in ecstasy. Amelia felt her clutch at her hips as her climax arrived all at once.
“Delbert! Amelia! Oh, stars, yes!”
Amelia couldn't resist turning around to watch the rapturous expression on the younger felinid's face as she writhed with pleasure on the bed. Her hands fell to the blankets and balled them up in her grasp as her claws came out involuntarily. Doppler felt her muscles tensing and releasing and felt a rush of triumph. He waited for the intensity of her orgasm to pass before he withdrew his finger, drawing out her pleasure with his tongue alone. Aurora subsided gradually, though she still jumped slightly when Doppler's tongue brushed her bud. Panting, she recovered her breath and looked up at Amelia.
“Oh, admiral...”
“I don't think I can take all the credit for that one, my dear,” Amelia kissed her and moved aside for Doppler to join them. Aurora put her arms around his neck and drew him into an intimate kiss so quickly that his eyes widened in surprise.
“Thank you, doctor,” she whispered.
Doppler smiled and stroked her hair. “It was my pleasure, Aurora. As always.”
“Not as much as it was mine, I assure you,” Aurora grinned and kissed him again. Doppler blushed.
“Well...I'm glad to hear that.”
“It was the general idea,” Amelia added.
“Well, than. Thank you both.” Aurora lay back and sighed happily, her lilac eyes seemingly glowing contentedly. “I'm not at all sure what I did to deserve you.”
“Many things, kitten,” Amelia took her hand. “Many, many things.”
“I can't imagine how.” Aurora looked at Doppler shyly. He kissed her.
“Just by being yourself, dear Aurora. It's all you ever have to be.”
“For you two,” Aurora gave him a small lick, “I'll be anything you want of me.”
“You're already more than we could ask for,” Doppler smiled.
Amelia smiled and kissed Doppler softly. “Well done, my dear doctor.”
Doppler responded in kind. “Far be it for me to deny the orders of a sector commander.”
Amelia grinned and kissed him again, more lingeringly. When they parted, Doppler's dark eyes were still fixed on her.
“I really did miss you, Amelia,” he whispered.
“Oh, Delbert.” Amelia stroked his cheek. “And I you.”
Aurora bit her lip, unsure if she should be privy to such a heartfelt moment, thinking of how often the couple must have shared those words in the past. The two shared another tender kiss and nuzzled each other, Amelia giving a soft mew.
“You two are so beautiful,” Aurora murmured.
To her surprise, they both blushed. “Well...the feeling never stops...” Doppler murmured.
“It certainly doesn't,” Amelia stroked his ear.
“Then I wouldn't want to stop you,” Aurora crawled out from under them. She knelt up and coaxed her lovers together. Doppler smiled gratefully as Amelia's arms wrapped around him. He held her close in return and their lips met once more in a series of heartfelt kisses. Doppler's superiority in height and weight gave him the advantage and Amelia was slowly compelled to move back. Aurora moved alongside her, resting against the pillows and guiding her down, drawing Doppler down on top of her. Amelia looked up at her husband, and smiled as Aurora stroked a stray lock of auburn hair off her forehead. Her green eyes widened in pleased surprise as she found out what Aurora's other hand was doing to her body lower down in preparation.
“Is this all right, ma'am?” Aurora whispered.
Amelia arched her back as Aurora's finger slipped deeper. “Oh, yes, my dear...”
The movement exposed her breasts for Doppler, who took full advantage of the situation. Amelia gasped as his warm lips closed on a sensitive nipple, teasing it erect before his soft tongue soothed it once more. His hands took her breasts and held them together as he moved from one to the other, distributing his affections. Amelia tousled his hair fondly before she gently took hold of an ear and guided his lips back to hers. She kissed him passionately, almost hungrily. Doppler could feel the roughness of her tongue against his lips and he parted them for her as the kiss deepened. Amelia's other hand slipped slowly down Doppler's body, over his hips and tail, which twitched in response. Amelia chuckled as Doppler broke the kiss and gave her a playful warning look.
“I am sorry, my love,” Amelia grinned. “But you really are far too much fun to resist.”
“I could say the same for you, my darling,” Doppler touched Amelia between her legs, making her shudder in happy anticipation.
“Then don't resist me,” she sighed.
Doppler touched her tenderly, enjoying the feeling of her readiness. “I wouldn't dream of it.”
He leaned over her to kiss her again, pressing his body against her. Aurora slid around behind him, stroking his legs. Responding to Aurora's touch, he raised his hips and allowed her hand to find him again. It took only a few strokes for her to confirm that he was at full hardness, but she went further anyway, guiding him into position at Amelia's entrance. She felt them both go taut at the first touch of his tip and heard Doppler whimper slightly.
“Everything is fine, dearest doctor,” Aurora whispered, climbing behind him. “I promise.”
“Oh, Aurora,” Doppler, Amelia beneath him and Aurora above him, closed his eyes. The younger felinid kissed the back of his neck lovingly and worked her way around to his ear.
“Take her, Delbert,” she whispered.
Doppler moaned. “A...Amelia?”
“Um, yes...” Aurora blushed as she remembered herself. “Er...if that's all right with you, ma'am.”
Amelia felt like laughing at the tenderness of her lovers, but her need was too urgent. She drew Doppler into a fierce and heartfelt kiss.
“More than all right,” she breathed.
Doppler lowered himself towards her, Aurora's eager hand guiding him, her warm body pressing down on his. Amelia's eyes widened as they made contact and widened still further as he entered her, inch by inch, until they were joined with his knot pushing against her.
“Amelia,” he whispered.
“Delbert.” Amelia touched his face. “I've missed you so.”
“And I you.” Doppler leaned in to kiss her again, the movement bringing his knot even more firmly against her. Aurora watched them with a faint smile, wondering again how often they had shared this long-awaited union after their enforced separations and marvelling at the turn of fortune that had led her to be part of it. Amelia shivered exultantly and began moving her hips against him. Doppler began to match her, gently urged on by Aurora. Their hands explored each other, lingering and playful, as if rediscovering their secrets. Their eyes met and their lips touched. As their movements became stronger Aurora climbed off them and lay on her side next to Amelia, who raised her legs and wrapped them around her husband to draw him deeper inside her.
“I need you, my love,” she whispered to him. “All of you.”
“Are you...sure?” Doppler brushed her hair back from her forehead.
“Absolutely sure.” Amelia kissed him. “Please.”
“May I help?” Aurora looked up. Doppler nodded and smiled. Leaning down, he nuzzled Amelia to turn her head aside. Aurora stroked her hair aside and kissed her way down the nape of her neck towards her scruff. Amelia gasped as she felt Aurora's bite and then went limp on the bed as Doppler gave himself to her completely. She mewed at the passage of his knot and Aurora let her go. She stroked her tenderly.
“Was that all right, ma'am?”
“Blissfully.” Amelia cupped Aurora's chin with her hand and kissed her softly. “Thank you.”
Aurora kissed her back and then raised herself to nuzzle Doppler fondly. “My pleasure, ma'am.”
“Oh, if only you knew.” Amelia looked up at Doppler and rubbed her nose on his. She lay back, gazing up at him adoringly. He smiled back and began moving his hips again, watching her face as she reacted. Aurora drew herself up her body until her breast was against Amelia's, the nipples brushing briefly as they came together. Amelia purred deeply, the softness of Aurora contrasting so powerfully with the hardness of Doppler inside her. They began moving on her, Doppler pushing himself deeper inside her, Aurora massaging her breasts with her own.
“Oh, yes, my dears...” Amelia moaned with pleasure. She drew Aurora in for a fond kiss, then did the same to Doppler while the other felinid scattered small kisses and licks along her neck. Doppler nuzzled them both warmly, his breath starting to come in growls. Amelia mewed and nuzzled him back encouragingly to urge him on. Aurora moved down Amelia's body, bringing her lips to her breasts and nipples. She took one in her mouth, making Amelia cry with delight at the rough touch of her tongue. Doppler leaned down to join her on Amelia's other breast, which Amelia pressed into his mouth by arching her back. Doppler and Aurora shared a triumphant grin and a soft kiss at her reactions before they returned their attention to her. Amelia clasped her hands to their heads, blonde and brown hair running between her fingers.
“Yes...oh, stars, yes...”
Aurora drew back as their passions mounted, letting them hold each other close. She watched the rising rhythm of their thrusts and the movement of Amelia's breasts.
“Amelia, my love,” Doppler shuddered.
“Yours, Delbert,” Amelia promised, wrapping her legs around him. “Oh, I've missed this...”
“So it seems,” Doppler smiled.
Amelia purred deeply. “Can you blame me?”
“I certainly can't, ma'am,” Aurora wrapped her arms around Doppler fondly, playing with his chest fur. He growled involuntarily as he turned to kiss her. One of her hand slid down his back and cupped him between his legs, making him yelp. Amelia felt him stiffen still further, if such a thing was possible, and mewed approvingly. Aurora massaged him gently, whispering tenderness into his soft ear. Shaking, Doppler bowed his head and began thrusting harder, making Amelia cry his name. She could feel the buildup inside her, waiting for its outlet. She clasped at her breast as Doppler's hands came under her hips and raised her off the bed. Amelia let her head roll back as she gave in to the pleasure.
“Delbert...oh, Delbert, yes...yes!”
“Amelia...” Doppler moaned. “Amelia...”
“Yes, ma'am,” Aurora urged her on. “Please, ma'am...for us...”
She left Doppler and went to lie back next to Amelia, her slender fingers drawing trails through Amelia's fur, over her stomach and down towards her secret. Her touch was hesitant at first as she sought her objective, but a small, stiff nub under her finger and a cry of delight from Amelia soon told her that she had found it.
“Please, ma'am,” Aurora repeated. “For us.”
Amelia pulled her close by a curl of blond hair and kissed her fiercely. Doppler kept up his thrusts, gasping in surprise at how she felt with Aurora's touch at work on her.
“Oh, my stars...Amelia...”
“Don't stop,” Amelia looked up at him, her need a burning fire in her emerald eyes. “Don't stop.”
“I won't, I promise,” Doppler assured her. “Amelia, my darling...”
“I won't stop either, ma'am,” Aurora whispered into her ear. “Not for anything.”
Amelia cried out in wordless ecstasy as her climax took her, electricity pulsing through her body. Doppler felt her muscles tightening around him and he shivered. It was far more than he could take and Doppler arched his back as he came, his mouth open silently. Amelia's eyes widened at the feeling of his climax inside her and she exulted in it, whispering his name. Aurora watched him with interest, noticing the shivers that wracked him so fully that he was frozen in place, until he gave a soft whine and relaxed, panting.
“Oh...Amelia...Aurora...I...” he shook his head. Amelia smiled and touched his hand lightly.
“Thank you, my dear.”
Doppler gave a breathless laugh and lay down alongside her, still joined warmly. Amelia rolled over with him, drawing a pillow under his head and kissing his nose with a smile.
“I love you, Delbert,” she murmured.
“I love you, too, Amelia,” Doppler kissed her in return, his dark eyes half-hooded with contentment. Amelia held him close and kissed him again. He rested a hand on her hips and responded in kind, the deeper kisses giving way to smaller and lighter ones as their shared breathing returned to normal. They lay silently eventually, just gazing into each other's faces. Aurora smiled at the intimacy of the sight and lay down next to Amelia again, stroking her auburn hair away from her neck. Amelia understood and kissed her lightly before turning her head away to expose her scruff. Aurora bit it firmly but softly, and Amelia relaxed to allow Doppler to withdraw. The exit of his knot, still hard, made her mew quietly. Doppler rolled onto his back gratefully, sighing deeply. Aurora crawled across to him.
“Oh, Delbert...” She examined his glistening manhood curiously. It was still surprisingly hard, and she wondered whether there was still more in the canid. She licked it, making him jump in his sensitive state.
“Aurora! Aurora, my dear...”
“Hmm.” She took more of him in her mouth. Amelia sat up with interest and joined her, nuzzling her warmly.
“Good thinking, lieutenant,” she purred. “May I?”
“Of course, ma'am.” Aurora smiled. Amelia took over, licking his tip clean. He moaned helplessly at the warmth and moaned again as Aurora's mouth closed on his knot.
“Oh, my...”
“I love you, too, doctor,” Aurora reached out to take his hand. Doppler took hers and smiled.
“And I you, dear Aurora.”
“We both do,” Amelia affirmed.
“I couldn't ask for more.” Aurora turned her head to meet Amelia's lips. “I...I love you, too, Admiral...if I may...”
“Of course you may, kitten.” Amelia kissed her tenderly. “The feeling is mutual, I assure you.”
Aurora smiled shyly. Amelia placed a last kiss on her forehead before leaving Doppler to her and crawling up to rest against his shoulder. Aurora lowered her head and wrapped her fingers around Doppler's shaft, working it up and down gently. Doppler's moan turned into a whine as her lips closed around him as well.
“I must say,” Amelia grinned at Doppler's expression, “As hard as being separated from you is, my dear, the quality of the reunions do seem to be at least partial compensation. Wouldn't you say so?”
“I...I most certainly do...” Doppler tried to concentrate on her face. Aurora's clever fingers were back at work between his legs, one thumb working back behind his testicles, rubbing him in circles. She felt him stiffen approvingly and looked up at him, still stroking his member as she held it erect between her breasts.
“Doctor?”
He whined again, his hips bucking once. Amelia grinned like a predator and held him down gently, stroking his ear.
“There you go, my pup. There you go.”
Aurora's lilac eyes opened as he jerked again and she felt something warm dampen her chest. Looking down, she quickly closed her lips around him once more to capture what little he had left. Doppler went limp, almost too weak to even pant. Amelia tousled his hair lovingly.
“I think you're done now, my dear.”
“Quite...done...oh, goodness...”
Aurora, licking her lips, joined them, purring softly. Doppler put an arm around her and nuzzled her wordlessly. She mewed and nuzzled him back.
“You're certainly right about the reunions, ma'am,” she smiled. “I think I can see how you managed being apart so often. As hard as it is...it helps when there's something to look forward to at the end of it all.”
“There's always something to look forward to.” Amelia nodded and smiled back. “And what we have together is definitely worth waiting for.”
“I...second that...” Doppler murmured weakly, raising a shaking hand.
Amelia chuckled at him and nodded, taking his hand in hers and resting it back against his chest. She and Aurora traded satisfied gazes for a moment before Amelia's eyes wandered lower.
“Are you quite all right there, Ms Mayflower?”
Aurora looked down. A small patch of the soft white fur between her breasts was still wet and matted down. Doppler saw it too and blushed despite his exhaustion.
“Um...I'm sorry about that...”
“There's nothing to apologise for, doctor,” Aurora smiled and patted his hand. “It was what I was generally aiming for, after all.”
“I do seem to remember a bath around here somewhere,” Amelia raised an eyebrow and looked up at Aurora. “The water should still be warm...”
Aurora grinned. “Aye aye, ma'am...”
