More Charm than Good
6 years ago, Bellwood was a peaceful town. Quaint & quiet, it housed nothing that would make it stand out from any other small town. They decorated the streets for holidays, held festivals & carnivals; they even had a Wine Vineyard that was considered the toast of the town. Yes, Bellwood was just an ordinary town...until Benjamin Tennyson came home from Summer Vacation.
“UMPPHH!!!”
It was 6 years ago today that Ben left with his grandfather & cousin on a cross-country trip that would change his life forever. Most would regret ever leaving the confines of their small town to go through the events that he has experienced. But Ben…
“HHHMMPPHHH!!!!”
He believes it’ll make for a great Movie Trilogy one day. Or maybe a video game.
“GUUUHHHH!!!”
If he survives it thought this fight, which has him on the ropes as he faces Serpent, the Snake that walks like a man. The last shot sent Ben flying through the air, and crashing into the side of the dumpster of Mr. Smoothy; where just 5 minutes earlier, a simple pickup for their order escalated into the fray both Tennyson cousins have on their hands now.
“Ssssurrender Ben Tennyssson!” He ordered. “For your utter defeat, isss at hand!”
Ben, in his Chromastone form, wasn’t able to answer until he reverted back to his original form. “OK, I’ve been having a rough day…So I’m gonna give you a chance to walk away. Because you won’t like it if I have to get rough…”
“Ben, what are you doing?” Gwen asked as she stood at his side, ready for battle. “Is this about how you missed the Sumo Slammers special earlier today.”
“You should be worried about more than jussst ssstupid fat warriorsss!” Serpent mocked.
That comment struck a nerve however, enough to make Ben’s eye twitch as anger filled his face. “And that was the LAST thing you should’ve said.” Gwen said, her face in her palm.
Serpent discovers just why as Ben slams his hand down on the Omnimatrix and morphs into possibly the most volatile and violent alien in his arsenal…the Tiger Humanoid Rath.
“LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHIN’ SNAKE-BOY!!!” He roared before savagely leaping at his foe. What followed next was a brutal one-sided bout of destruction as Rath submitted his wrath upon Serpent, lifting him up and devastatingly slamming him down with an array of moves that would put any pro wrestler to shame. Gwen just continued to shake her head, as Rath applied a ruthless chokehold to the sinister snake being.
“Say Mercy! SAY IT!” Rath demanded.
“Mercccy! Mercccy!” Serpent pleaded.
“Now say ‘Sumo Slammers are Such Superior Superheroes!”
“Sssumo…Ssslam—!”
“Alright, that’s enough!” Gwen said, drawing upon her powers to separate her cousin from their foe, who was more than ready to surrender. “You can be so irresponsible at times!”
“HEY! Rath is very responsible!” The warrior barked. “I’m the most responsible wrecking machine in the galaxy!”
“Yeah, sure...” Gwen sarcastically uttered as she sent out a signal for a Plumber pickup. “And the damage you’ve caused in town tonight really shows that.”
Ben wasn’t happy about the lecture, though. “Hey...LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHING, MEDDLING COUSIN GWEN TENNYSON...”
“Oh, save it for a wrestling ring!” Gwen interrupted as she walked off towards the Mr. Smoothy order window. Being left speechless, Rath tapped to logo on his chest, reverting back to normal Ben Tennyson, with a surprised look on his face.
“You...seem a little angrier than usual, today.” He noticed as he joined her. “Kevin’s still off on his mission?”
“Yep.” She replied before taking a slurp of her smoothie through a straw.
Ben grabbed his order off the counter and leaned against it, still confused about his cousin’s anger. “I thought you would’ve been happy to have some time away from him. You always talk about how he drives you crazy with his habits.”
“Yeah...” Gwen agreed. “It’s just that...I don’t mind them as much, especially when we...” She stopped herself cold in mid-sentence, remembering who she was speaking to. “You know what, never mind!”
She tried to walk away, but her cousin trailed right behind her. “When you what? Come on, tell me!”
“No.”
“Gwen, we’re family.” Ben said, trying to persuade her. “You know you can share anything with me.”
“Not this!”
“Come on, what could be so private that...” It took a moment, but Ben finally figured out why his cousin became so secretive. “Oh-h-h-h-h...sweet! So what’s to be ashamed of? Kevin’s a screamer, isn’t he?”
“No he’s—look, WHY am I even discussing this with you!?” Gwen responded. “My sex life is not the topic of the day!”
“Why?” Ben inquired. “I mean, I’m open to talking about me and Julie in the sack! She can do this thing with her tongue, while I take my finger—!”
“BEN!!!” Gwen barked, not wanting to hear another word. She then sighed as she decided to share. “Look...my life has just been a little rough, lately. And Kevin not being around because of his mission...hasn’t helped much.”
“Then tell me about it.” Ben offered.
Gwen sighed softly, before beginning. “Well, for one I’m being considered as Valedictorian for my class, I need to practice new moves for my Karate class, and Emily wants me to listen to her performance before she plays at her concert. Usually if Kevin were here he trick me into...fooling around, so that I wouldn’t be so stressed out. But it’s OK, I can handle it. With him gone, I’ll just have to find other outlets.”
“Well that’s perfectly understandable.” Ben said. “Have you ever thought about using a vibrator?” Gwen didn’t speak when she heard that suggestion, she just shot her cousin a look of total disbelief. “What? Don’t tell me Aunt Natalie still doesn’t hide hers on the top shelf in her closet...”
“That’s it, conversation’s over! What was I even THINKING!?”
“Aw, come on!”
Ignoring her cousin’s plea, Gwen continued to walk off, making her departure for the night and leaving Ben to his smoothie and his thoughts. Seeing that she wasn’t coming back, he plopped himself down on the bench in front of the restaurant and began slurping his drink. Off in the distance, he the two Plumber agents Gwen radioed earlier, as they secured Serpent for his trip to a holding cell at Plumber HQ. They waved to Ben and saluted him, and he did the same as he watched them load up the captive before taking off in their ship. They blasted off into the night sky, leaving the young hero truly alone as he sat at the restaurant bench, sipping his smoothie. And with no other reports of strange, weird or alien activity, the young hero decided it was best to call it a night as well.
“Nice night for a smoothie, isn’t it?”
That was until he heard a soft voice speaking behind him. He turned around to see a young blonde woman with blue eyes standing there, looking only a few years older than he was. She wore a short, white skirt and sneakers with a red blouse as she approached the young hero. “Come to this place often?”
“Eh, you could say that.” Ben replied.
As the woman sat down, she smiled warmly at Ben and introduced herself. “Hi, I’m Caroline...and you’re Ben Tennyson!”
Hearing the astonishment in her voice only served to bolster his confidence. “Yep, that’s me. So lemme guess, autograph on an 8x11 portrait?”
“Oh no.” She said in awe. “I’d just be happy to spend time with you, that’s all. I mean, you are a hero after all.”
She was clearly swelling his head with her complements, but Ben was too honored to even pay attention. “Of course. It’s not often you get to meet someone who saved the world a dozen times over. In fact, you wanna hear the story of how I saved it from a deranged clown?”
“No...not yet.” She answered. “Maybe we could get out of her though, catch a movie together. The new Sumo Slammers sequel is being shown at a special Midnight Screening tonight...”
“It is, isn’t it?” Ben said, reminded of that fact.
“It is.” She repeated, sliding closer to the young hero. “Or, we could just enjoy a couple of smoothies here...and watch the stars in the sky...”
“Yeah, we could...” It took a while, but it finally processed through Ben’s mind what the young woman’s true intentions were. “Oh, wait a minute...I’m flattered, and I mean that, but I’m spoken for.”
In response, she gazed deep into his eyes and ran her index finger under his chin. “Is that so?” She said seductively. “And the lucky woman isn’t here by your side? Must not be much of a girlfriend then...at least not like I can be.”
For a moment, Ben found himself becoming lost in her eyes, before shaking himself free of their hold. “No! No...it’s not like that. She’s...at a Tennis Tournament.”
“But not here, with you.” She emphasized her voice barely above a whisper as her lips drifted closer to his. “And how much could she love you if she left you alone on this night?”
Before Ben could answer, he felt the warmth of her lips pressed against his. It was accompanied by a strange sensation that sent a wave of energy all over his body, and caused his eyes to glow a purple tint. A moment later, Ben found himself far away from the Mr. Smoothie he was just occupying. He wasn’t even in Bellwood. He was on a desert island; the sun beaming down as he took refuge under a shady palm tree. He then spotted Caroline slowly strolling over to him, wearing a sundress and a sexy smirk. She strolled up to the young hero and let her arms wrap around his neck, while resting on his shoulders. Her lips then wrapped around his as they kissed each other deeply, Ben’s hands finding their way to her hips. Her body was pressed against his as he could feel the softness of her skin. His hands eventually found their way to her curvy backside as he sank his fingers into it. He could feel her nipples pressed against his chest as her mouth slowly parted open during their kiss...
...but it wasn’t real, not all of it. And deep in his mind, Ben knew it. Jumping back from their kiss, he found himself weak in the knees and unable to focus his mind. He knew it wasn’t natural, that magic was involved with the effects he felt. And though his mind was cluttered, he was still able to speak two words.”
“You...Ch-Charmcaster.”
Caroline slowly stood up from the bench and turned to Ben, as her lips curled into a grin. “Smarter than you look, which is even more promising.”
Instinctively, Ben went to activate his Omnitrix, hoping to pull up Humungosaur. But as he sought to slam his hand down upon the face of the watch, he found it surrounded by a bubble of purple energy. “Ah-ah-ah, I don’t need your alien forms...not yet, at least.” As she strolled seductively towards him, she slowly changed her appearance to her true form of Charmcaster. “All I need is you with me.”
“I...don’t...love...”
“Don’t strain yourself, my love.” She told him, which brought a look of shock to the young hero’s face. “You are gonna be needed to rule beside me in the Ledgerdomain. I’ve fought you and your cousin since you both were children, and every time we’ve faced off, you and your aliens have always defeated me. It wasn’t until I was betrayed by Darkstar that I realized, it’s you...you’re the one for me.”
She playfully ran her finger under Ben’s chin, just like in his dream, and lifted his head enough for them to meet eye-to-eye. “I rule an entire dimension made of magic...but it means absolutely nothing without someone to share that honor with. Someone powerful, someone heroic...and someone who can share my bed with me, so I’ll never be lonely. So you should be honored Ben Tennyson, because you’ve just hit the jackpot.”
Ben still struggled with Charmcaster’s magic fighting for control of his mind, but he was still strong enough to respond in his trademark fashion.
“Flattered...but...no!”
“Let me guess, you’re worried about your girlfriend here?” She asked. “Trust me, once I get you to my castle...you won’t even remember her face.”
“No! I...won’t!”
Charmcaster giggled in response as she leaned in closer to him. “As if you had a choice...”
“BEN!!!”
Charmcaster was halted just inches away from Ben’s lips as she heard the voice that had become the bane of her existence, Gwen Tennyson. Quickly, she used her magic to put her illusion of Caroline, just as Gwen rounded the corner and spotted them. “Look, I need a ride to your house so I can pick up that...uh, who are you and is my cousin alright?”
“Oh! He...must’ve had a smoothie that didn’t agree with him.” Charmcaster replied, using Caroline’s voice. “I was just helping him out.”
“That sounds like Ben, probably experimented with a new flavor.” Gwen said. “But that still doesn’t explain who YOU are. Or why I’m sensing a strong magical presence from you.”
Before Hope could answer, Ben struggled to expose her true identity. “Ch...Ch...Charm...”
He didn’t need to finish, as Gwen’s eyes and hands ignite with Mana energy. “You got three seconds to release my cousin before I make you sorry.”
Charmcaster responded by putting her hand on her forehead, as she reverted back to her true form. “Why do you have to butt in with EVERYTHING I do? It’s not like I’m trying to take Kevin from you now!”
“No, you’re just trying to kidnap my COUSIN!” Gwen barked back.
“The same cousin you always argue and fight with?” Charmcaster shot back.
“Yes, and the same cousin who if you hurt, I’ll make you suffer.” Gwen responded. “He’s family, meaning he stays here!”
“You know, you are really beginning to IRK ME!!!” As she spoke those last words, Charmcaster summoned up a rock monster from the ground between her and Gwen. As it rose up from the dirt, Gwen wasted no time striking it down with her powers.
“Do you really think your minions will stop—?” Gwen herself stopped in mid-sentence as her eyes caught Charmcaster locking lips with Ben. She then pulled back from the kiss, and smiled deviously at her rival.
“No, but they work as a great distraction.”
“WHAT DID YOU JUST DO TO BEN!?!?” Gwen demanded to know.
“I helped clear his mind.” Hope answered. “Isn’t that right, Ben?”
“My mind is clear.” He said in a monotone voice, his eyes now completely in a purple glow.
“Ben!” Gwen called out, before turning her attention back to Charmcaster.
“Release him, NOW!”
“And why would I do that when we’re going to be together in the Ledgerdomain?” Charmcaster asked.
Gwen responded by firing a Mana blast at Hope, who barely deflected it by summoning a shield. “I won’t ask again!”
“You won’t get the chance!” Charmcaster growled, before turning to Ben and removing her bubble shield from his Omnitrix. “Ben?”
“Yes, Charmcaster.”
“You will destroy your annoying cousin, and then come with me back to the Ledgerdomain.”
“Ben, fight it!” Gwen pleaded to no avail. Her cousin was completely under Charmcaster’s spell, as evident by the activation of his Omnitrix, and the alien he chose to complete Charmcaster’s demand.
“Echo-Echo!”
In an instant, Ben transformed into the small white alien capable of glass-shattering sound. But Charmcaster’s hold on him was strong enough that he didn’t hold back his power, as he tapped his chestplate and activated his evolved form...
“Ultimate Echo-Echo!”
Now Gwen found herself standing before the very alien that was able to down Kevin in his crazed and overpowered state. And the situation became worse as he began to multiply, surrounding the Anodite on all sides and entrapping her in a circle. With ten Echo-Echoes all around her, Gwen looked back up at Charmcaster, who floated above the impromptu battlefield while wearing a superior smirk.
“I’ve really enjoyed our time together Gwen...who am I kidding, no I haven’t. End her!”
