A/N -I would like to say this is not my personal view of the wedding procedure for Ozai and Ursa. I’d like to think their relationship wasn’t quite as aggressive and dubious as portrayed here. But someone asked for it on the Kink Meme and fuck it all, the idea was hot. Details have been fixed from what was originally posted.
While I love reviews, I would like to be rated for this story even more.
Ursa had one small advantage in her arranged marriage; she had a notion of who the Second Prince of the Fire Nation was. The youngest son of Fire Lord Azulon and Fire Lady Ilah, Prince Ozai was a master Fire Bender, arrogant, and had spent the past five years sewing wild oats by traveling the known lands. Rumors stated he was still seeking the long dead Avatar. Other rumors about the Prince were not so kind, and Ursa imagined that many more rumors were far too rough for a young lady’s ears.
She was the youngest grandchild of the Traitor, Avatar Roku, though it meant little in her eyes. She was only two when her ancient father, Roku’s son, had died and her mother took up the reigns of her family’s merchant empire that had been handed down by Ursa’s grandmother. Her older brothers were married off and ran the company located on Ember Island where she grew up in moderate luxury.
At the age of fourteen Ursa was informed by her mother that a nakodo on the behalf of the royal family had petitioned the process of seeking Ursa's hand to the Second Prince. Her mother readily agreed, though the two families had little personal contact during the ordeal. Her mother and the matchmaker had met Prince Ozai while Ursa met the Prince’s sister-in-law.
That was two years ago. The young woman had first been bewildered by it all. The Royal Family had no need to marry into money and her heritage was more a liability than privilege. Her elder brothers had to stress their loyalty to the Nation and the luxury they could afford their wives. Eventually Ursa concluded that the Fire Lord found the breeding of for Master Fire Bender a necessity for both his sons. Her mother had taken a particular distaste for Firebending for her children. Perhaps to disassociate her family more from Roku’s sin; despite the potential her children had. Ursa had been only taught the basic kata and techniques for self-defense.
Whatever the reason, the results would be the same: she would become Princess Usra of the Fire Kingdom, Bride of Second Prince Ozai.
During the two years Ursa only saw flattering portraits of her betrothed and she suspected the Prince had only seen the finest portraits of her. She met her future sister-in-law and Crown Prince Iroh with her mother and brothers the night before the wedding as per tradition. The Crown Princess was bright and kind and despite his age, Prince Iroh was lively though often in deep thought. Ursa found herself at ease with her future family.
Yet, she did not sleep much that night.
The ceremony began while dawn's light chased away the pale blue shadows of the night. She was dressed in a white uchikake, the color of the heart of flame. A while cowl was draped over her during the groom’s procession since Ursa was currently just a commoner and the ceremony for her crowning would in two days time.
The hood made it near impossible to study her surroundings while not making it obvious. She couldn’t even study the Prince besides a few stolen glances from under the hood. He was dressed in a regal red kimono edged with gold and black. His hair was almost as long as hers and he had firm, full lips, and the start of a gotee. He was solemn, silent, and had a velvety baritone that repeated the Fire Sage’s vows in a monotone. The kiss they shared was brief and formal; though Ursa liked the taste of ember upon the Prince's lips.
After the vows exchanged, the new couple were to be celebrated at the palace’s banquet hall. During the feast and musical numbers, Ursa ate little and drank even less. Towards the end of the last production, she was lead away from the banquet hall to be led to her new husband's chambers.
She was helped onto his bed, a large elaborate bed made of cast iron and covered with red velvet, the while panels and sleeves of her uchikake bloomed like a lunar flower over the dark scarlet. They left a jar of cream on the stand next to the bed and bowed deeply before leaving the Prince's chambers.
Ursa waited, her stomach knotted, uncertain of what would happen next. She was a bundle of nervous energy, the only thing that kept her from collapsing in exhaustion.
Then she waited longer, her teeth found her plump bottom lip and began to chew nervously.
She waited more, and then finally the new bride sighed in annoynace.
The young woman's natural curiosity had gotten away from her as her legs grew numb from kneeling for so long. Ursa slid off the bed and landed lightly on bare feet before pulling down her hood. The first order of business was to stretch her long limbs out and gently rotate her neck. Upon doing so, the woman glanced about her new husband’s chambers.
Like the bed, the room was large, dark, and imposing. Her lips pursed as she realized the trappings were impersonal despite the strong masculine energy they gave off. Black, red, pillars and monoliths. No family portraits, no tokens of friendship or affection. It wasn’t much different from her new personal chambers, though the air of her room was lighter and more feminine.
Ursa then spotted a cluttered shelf from the far side of the room, the only sign of disarray in the emotionless chamber. Drawn to the energy, the new bride padded over to the shelf to study curios artifacts Prince Ozai might have collected during his travels. What caught her eyes were four small toys that looked beyond well loved. She gently picked up a small toy drum while she slowly began to trace the lines that swirled like fire.
"You took off your hood." A cool tone echoed in the room.
