AUTHOR’S NOTES: Another one of my wacky pairings which I then struggle to make work. But I think this does…
This story is set in Season 2. At this time Flora and Helia have just started dating while Mirta is brand-new at Alfea.
*=*=*
The Red Fountain shuttle had landed in the courtyard at Alfea. Princess Layla of Tides and Mirta Eveningstar (recently of the Cloud Tower School for Witches) both sat and watched as the Winx Club met the crew, who just happened to be their boyfriends. They watched as Bloom hugged and kissed her boyfriend Prince Sky of Eraklion. At the same time Princess Stella of Solaria hugged and kissed her boyfriend Squire Brandon. Musa and her boyfriend Riven did their usual ‘Exactly _why_ am I with you again?’ dance. *Just what _is_ their relationship anyway?*, thought a confused Layla. Tecna and her boyfriend Timmy did their usual highly awkward courting ritual. And Flora blushed as her new boyfriend Helia took her hands in his and they stared into one another’s eyes. *Platonic love at its finest. Pity it’s not what I’m looking for*, thought Mirta.
Both Layla and Mirta were a bit hurt by this. It was bad enough they didn’t have boyfriends while the others did, but this rubbing their noses in it wasn’t helping. They both knew this wasn’t deliberate, of course, but that didn’t make it any easier.
The happy couples began to wander off to be alone, leaving Layla and Mirta sitting alone on the front steps of their dorm. Both let out a sigh at the same time, this caused the pair to turn and look at one another.
“You too?”, Layla said to Mirta.
Mirta just looked down at her feet. “Yeah”, she finally said.
“I don’t mind the fact I don’t have a boyfriend. I just don’t need to be reminded of it all the time!” Layla continued to watch Mirta, who still continued to look down at her feet. “Mirta, are you ok?”
The witch/fairy struggled to hold her feelings in check. She’d never fit in at Cloud Tower and was now struggling to fit in at Alfea. As a result she had only one friend at Cloud Tower, none at Alfea and no romantic prospects at all. She’d kept up a brave front but this time she could feel the façade crumbling. She ran off before she burst into tears in front of Layla.
Layla was shocked when all of a sudden Mirta ran off. She leaped up to catch the witch but was stopped by Stella, who wanted to show off her latest piece of jewelry, a present from Brandon. “Uh, later Stel, ok?”, she told the blonde before turning to try and catch Mirta. But the redhead was nowhere in sight.

Mirta had a favorite spot to hide from the rest of the school and think, one of the towers of the campus. It took several spells for Layla to find the redhead but she finally did. She knocked on the wall. “Mirta, can we talk?”
Mirta looked up, her face still stained with tears. The sight touched Layla deeply. The brown-skinned girl quickly walked over and sat down next to Mirta. She put an arm around the redhead and asked, “Feeling better now?”
Mirta just sniffed and put her head on Layla’s shoulder. “I’m sorry. It’s just you’re right. Having to see the others reminds me of what I don’t have…”
Layla just hugged Mirta for a bit. Finally she leaned over and whispered into the redhead’s ear. “It’s Friday night and I do _not_ want to spend it here studying. How about you and I hit Magix tonight?”
Mirta couldn’t believe her ears. She raised her head and looked at the brown-haired girl. “Are you serious?”
“Yep! Let’s go out and party until we drop!”
Mirta perked up at that suggestion. “Let’s do it!”
“Ok”, said Layla. “Get dressed then. You have anything fancy to wear?”
“Sure I do! Never thought I’d get the chance to wear it though”, the giddy redhead replied.
“Ok. Don’t eat, just get cleaned up and dressed. I’ll pick you up at your room at 6pm sharp!”

Mirta was still fiddling with her hair when Layla knocked. She’d flown back to her room to shower and dress, then put on makeup. Never having done much of this before, it look much longer than she’d planned. She got lucky; Estrella, a fairy from Hammonix who lived in the same dorm as Mirta had stopped by. When Mirta explained the situation the fairy immediately offered to help Mirta with her hair. “At least your short hair is easy to manage”, the pink-haired fairy said as she worked; her own luxurious hair hung down to her waist in long, beautiful curls. “Long hair can take forever sometimes!”
The fairy decided to put some small bangs in the redhead’s hair, then frost the tips. Mirta was scared at first but trusted Estrella. And the fairy did not disappoint, Mirta loved the look and was admiring it when there was a knock on the door. The pink-haired fairy took Mirta by the shoulders. “You look fantastic! Now go out and show Magix!”
Mirta took a few seconds to breathe and tried to calm down. Her pulse was racing and she swore everybody on campus could hear her heart pounding in her chest. She walked over and opened the door.
Layla had to do a double-take. *Wow, is that really Mirta?*, she thought as she stared at the redhead. The girl was wearing a shoulder-less green dress trimmed in red which accentuated both her eyes and her hair. It came down to just above the knees and showed both her shoulders and a fair bit of cleavage. Together with leather sandals the girl was a vision of loveliness.
Mirta was also in shock. The Water Fairy was wearing the shortest green dress with two thin shoulder straps, giving the Witch/Fairy a fantastic view of the dark-skinned girl’s long, luscious legs which were accented even further by her high clogs. Her long dark hair hung over her shoulders in curls with a green bow on the right side.
The fairy handed a single white rose to Mirta. “For you.”
Mirta reached out and took it, tears forming in her eyes. “Th-th-thank you”, she barely managed to whisper.
“Ready to go?”, Layla asked. Mirta just nodded. The dark-haired girl offered her arm to the redhead. Mirta took it and the pair walked outside.
There Bloom, Stella and the others were waiting on the steps, talking and giggling. Both Layla and Mirta heard that stop as the pair walked towards them.
Stella gave them both a big smile. “You both look fabulous!”
Bloom gave the pair a big ‘thumbs up’. “Wow!”, was all she could say.
“You both look wonderful!”, Flora gushed.
“Party hard!”, yelled Musa, her pigtails bouncing as she did.
Tecna just smiled and said, “Have fun, you two!”
Layla and Mirta walked arm in arm outside the campus gate. Mirta was surprised to find a limo waiting there. The driver smiled and opened the door for them. “Hey, if we’re going out we’re hitting Magix in style!”, Layla said. Mirta got inside with Layla following.
The trip to Magix wasn’t long, but the pair broke open a bottle of Champagne and had a couple of drinks each on the way. Mirta kept asking Layla where they were going but the fairy refused to answer with anything other than “Trust me, you’ll love it!”
Finally the limo stopped. Layla opened the door and helped Mirta out. Mirta was surprised to find they were at Vienito’s, the premiere restaurant in Magix. Stella mentioned being here once with “Sky”, that was back when Sky and Brandon had switched identities before Layla or Mirta had come to Alfea. Bloom and Stella had told them both the whole bizarre story and the trouble it had caused, including Bloom almost ruining the Day of the Rose. *Sky _had_ to pay the bill for Brandon, there’s _no_ way a Squire could even afford to tip the head waiter here!*, thought the redhead. “Uh, Layla, can we afford this?”
“Hey, I’m the Princess of Tides! And I’ve got this!”, the dark-skinned fairy said as she held up a gold and silver card. “As Stella loves to say, being a princess _does_ have quite a few advantages!”
Mirta had to chuckle at that statement. The evening had barely started but she was having the time of her life. Layla was exciting and full of life. Just being near the Water Fairy had brought great joy to her.
Layla had made reservations and the two were quickly led to a quiet table in the back. Vienito’s lived up to its reputation, the service and food both being exquisite. The pair had some wine, laughed and talked. Mirta was surprised to find out how much she and Layla had in common. But finally it was time to go.
As they left and headed back for the limo Mirta asked Layla where they were going next. Again Layla just told the redhead to wait and see.
The limo finally stopped. The driver got out and opened the door for them. When Mirta got out she saw they were at a dance club. Layla got out, enjoying the rhythms coming from the open door of the club.
Mirta was nervous. She wasn’t used to places like this. She was a witch. And she was with a fairy, something which would drawn unwanted attention. But she summoned her courage, which was made easier by the fact that Layla offered her arm. The two entered the brightly-lit and noisy club.
The light and noise caught the redhead by surprise, but Layla practically dragged her further inside. They went up to the bar where Layla ordered a cocktail. “And what will you have?”, she asked Mirta.
“Ummm Layla, I don’t drink hard liquor,”, Mirta said.
“Usually or ever?”, the dark-skinned fairy asked as her drink was set in front of her.
“Ever”, the pale witch said. “And I’ve already had quite a bit of alcohol tonight anyway.”
“Ohhhh”, Layla said. She turned to the barkeep. “Get my friend a soft drink then, please.”
Mirta looked positively embarrassed but Layla just smiled at the redhead. “Don’t worry about it, honey. Nothing to be ashamed about.”
After they got their drinks they found a table in the back where they finished them and talked for awhile. Then Layla stood up and offered her hand to Mirta. “C’mon, let’s dance!”
“I’m not comfortable with that”, the redhead said, looking down at the floor.
Layla sat down. “Mirta, are you uncomfortable here?”
“Yes”, she squeaked.
“Then let’s go!,” Layla said as she offered Mirta her hand. The two quickly exited the club. “Where’s the limo?”, Mirta asked the dark-skinned fairy.
“Gone, I thought we’d be here for awhile.”
“I’m so sorry, Layla”, the pale redhead barely whispered, not even able to look at the Water Fairy.
Layla put her hand under Mirta’s chin and lifted the tear-streaked face to hers. “Nothing to apologize for. It’s my fault for not asking first. The clubbing scene isn’t for everyone. I should have known that”. Layla thought for a moment. “Say Mirta, why don’t we take a walk in the park?”
The redhead liked that idea. “Sure!”, she said. Layla offered Mirta her arm and they walked across the block into the park.
Despite the late hour there was plenty of moonlight to see by. *And you look lovely in it*, thought Layla as she kept trying not to stare at the pale redhead.
Mirta was thinking the same thoughts herself as she tried not to stare at the tall ebony girl next to her. Layla’s long hair was tossed by the gentle breeze against Mirta’s bare shoulder, setting off a tidal wave of emotions in the redhead. Mirta felt herself getting wet, she prayed Layla wouldn’t notice.
They reached a bench. Mirta looked at Layla and asked, “Mind if we sit for awhile?”
The dark-skinned girl smiled at Mirta. “Certainly not. We really haven’t had much of a chance to really talk tonight.”
The pair sat down. They made quite the contrast; the tall, dark-skinned girl with long dark hair sitting next to the short, pale short-haired redhead. Yet for all their physical differences the two did have much in common.
Layla could feel Mirta’s tension. “Mirta, are you ok?”
Mirta could only stammer. Then she quickly leaned up and gave Layla a quick kiss on the cheek. When the moment of courage passed she slid over to the other side of the bench and hung her head low, a sob coming from her.
Layla slid over and took Mirta into her arms, hugging the redhead tightly to her. “Please don’t cry, Mirta. What’s wrong?”
Mirta just buried her head in Layla’s shoulder, unable to voice her feelings. Finally Layla put a hand under the pale girl’s head and lifted it up. The two stared into each other’s eyes, then Layla leaned down and gave Mirta a long, slow kiss on the lips.
The redhead melted into the kiss, her arms wrapping around the dark-skinned girl. She never wanted this moment to end.
Finally the kiss broke. Mirta looked at Layla. “Why?”
“Because I like you too, silly. I’ve known for some time you prefer girls over guys. And I do too. But I was never sure of how you felt towards me and didn’t want to endanger our friendship, so I never said anything. But tonight, for the first time, you showed me how you feel. Let me tell you now, those feelings are reciprocated.”
Mirta’s eyes were shining with tears. She had long been too afraid to voice her innermost desires. Layla was just so out of her league, she knew she never stood a chance with the Water Fairy. But now…
The pale redhead leapt up and climbed into the dark-skinned girl’s lap. Her arms went around Layla’s neck and her head fell on the Water Fairy’s shoulder. The pair hugged as if they were afraid if they stopped they could never start again. They stayed like this for some time…
Finally Layla whispered into the redhead’s ear. “Mirta, we do need to go back to Alfea.”
“Must we?”
“We can’t stay here all night. Even as nice as this is.”
Mirta sighed. She was scared, but knew she had to ask. “Layla, will you…”
The Water Fairy looked at the Witch/Fairy, waiting for the redhead to finish that sentence. When she didn’t Layla realized what the Witch/Fairy was asking. “Mirta, are you sure about this…?”
“Yes. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”
“Then yes. But what about my roommate?”
“I live alone…”, the redhead said. Layla just nodded.
The Water Fairy changed into her Winx form, something Mirta didn’t need to do. The pair flew back to Alfea, landing just outside the grounds. It was late and there were few people in sight. This was good as they wanted to be inconspicuous. They especially wanted to avoid the rest of the Winx Club and in particular Stella the campus gossip. Both needed this to remain secret for now…
The pair sneaked into Mirta’s dorm. The halls were quiet and no one observed them slip into Mirta’s room. The redhead closed the door, then started to reach for the light switch. Suddenly her hand was grasped and she found herself pulled away from the wall. She felt Layla’s arms wrap around her and a soft voice whispered in her ear, “Let’s just leave them off, shall we?”
Mirta giggled as the dark-skinned girl nuzzled her neck and planted soft kisses on it. Then the kisses began to trail upwards. Two pairs of lips eagerly sought out the other and the pair were soon kissing up a storm. Mirta was getting bolder as she slowly pushed Layla back towards the bed.
The Water Fairy originally thought she would have to take the lead tonight. But Mirta’s confidence was growing fast so the dark-skinned girl just decided to relax and let the redhead take the lead tonight.
Mirta had now backed Layla to the bed, a quick thrust of her pelvis and the dark-haired beauty was lying down. The Witch/Fairy fell on top of her and continued kissing every inch of exposed skin she could find, which proved to be considerable. Layla just laid back and enjoyed this, it had been a long time since she had been with such an eager lover.
The redhead stopped and pulled Layla to a sitting position. She resumed her body kissing but now began to slowly slip Layla’s dress off, starting with the straps and pushing it downwards. The dark-skinned girl wriggled a bit, allowing gravity to help the redhead.
The moonlight shining through the windows cast a pale glow on the Water Fairy. Mirta could not believe the vision of loveliness in front of her. Her head dipped and she took one of Layla’s nipples into her mouth. This brought a contented sigh from the Water Fairy. Mirta suckled on the firm tit for a few moments, then switched to the other. As she did this she gently pushed the dark-skinned girl back onto the bed.
Layla just lay back and enjoyed herself immensely. But soon she decided to return the favor. She pulled the pale redhead’s face to hers and gave the Witch/Fairy a long, deep kiss. When she’d finished she stood up and pulled Mirta to her feet as well. The Water Fairy quickly slipped Mirta’s dress off, leaving the redhead nude except for her sandals. Layla sat the Witch/Fairy down, pushed her onto the bed, spread her legs and began to slowly kiss the redhead’s inside thighs. Mirta began to moan and squirm. The Water Fairy continued teasing the pale girl for a little longer, then began to tongue-lash her.
Mirta swore her scream of pleasure could be heard all over campus. She was quite embarrassed but quickly realized the room was soundproof. She was panting for breath as Layla continued her oral assault.
Layla continued until Mirta finally let out another scream and lay limp on the bed. The dark-skinned girl climbed next to the Witch/Fairy and the two cuddled.
When Mirta finally regained her senses she kissed the Water Fairy and said, “let me do you now.”
Layla gave the redhead another kiss and lay back. She might have been inexperienced, but Mirta was a quick study and soon had the dark-skinned girl yelling almost as loudly as she had earlier.
*=*=*
Several hours later both girls were exhausted. They were snuggled together under the blankets, cuddling each other. Mirta finally asked, “so where do we go from here?”
Layla knew the answer to that. She gave the Witch/Fairy a passionate kiss, then said, “wherever we want to.”
