Dark Descent
Chapter One
By J. Hellraiser
July 27, 2007
Jade stared out the window, the rain matching her gloomy mood. Throttle was gone, practically taken out from under her nose. To say she felt guilty was an understatement. Modo and Vinnie were looking miserable as well, worried over Throttle’s safety. Carbine and Rimfire had returned to Mars, hoping to possibly get a lead, leaving Stoker here on Earth. The old Freedom Fighter was hard to read, keeping his emotions guarded, at least about Throttle. His feelings about Jade were perfectly clear: he blamed her for what happened. Charlie felt bad about how she had treated the tan furred Martian before his disappearance, immersing herself in her repairs. Jade felt the tension in the garage, it was almost tangible. Unlike the others though, the Arien girl knew what Damian was capable of and what he could possibly do to Throttle. Jade wanted to go after Damian, but knew it would be a fruitless mission. Lady had told the Martian mechanic that the slippery doctor had used a hand held transporter, which meant he could be anywhere. Jade resisted the urge to ground her teeth in frustration. It was not in her nature to sit back and do nothing! At this rate, she was almost hoping Limburger tried something, just to get her mind off of this inactivity. Anything would do to bring them out of their depression. The alarm sounding caused everyone to jump in surprise. Charlie raced over to look, almost relieved.
“It looks like Limburger transported some new criminals in, guys. According to the scanner they’re in the old rundown section of downtown.”
“All right! Finally some action!” Vin was practically jubilant, grabbing Midnight in to a quick hug, “I gotta go, Sweetheart. Keep an eye on Crystal for me,” he planted a kiss on her lips, then jumped on to his red racer.
Modo nodded to Charlie, “We’ll take care of these clowns and be back before ya know it.”
Stoker glared at Jade as she sat on her own bike, “Where do you think you’re going?”
Jade turned and glared back before slipping her shades on, “With Vin and Modo. Someone needs to keep them in line.”
The old mouse fumed as Blade donned her helmet, smirking, “Come on boys, lets RIDE!”
************
He woke slowly, his eyes blinking lazily behind the mask on his face. Groaning softly, he sat up and took a look around himself. His companions were still out of it, though they showed signs of waking up shortly. A quick head count made him jump to his feet. They were one short! The sound of roaring motorcycles made him turn, arming himself to protect his unconscious friends.
Though calling the one “friend” was stretching things a bit.
************
The three Martians stopped their bikes, surprised at the sight before them. There were four aliens that looked like giant cats, one of which looked ready to fight them. The other three were lying on the ground, completely out of it. Blade glanced at Vinnie and Modo, then at the stranger in front of them.
I better handle this. Neither Modo nor Vin were diplomatic. Besides, I don’t know if he speaks any language we know.
“Guys, let me try and talk to him. I don’t think he’s with Limburger, since it would kinda be pointless to send unconscious thugs against us, dontcha think?”
Modo nodded, though Vin looked worried, “Are you sure that’s wise, Sweetheart? I mean we really don’t know who they are or where they’re from.”
“I know, but you and Modo can be my back up.”
Blade got off her bike slowly and raised her hands, to show she meant no harm before slowly approaching the strange cat.
************
He watched the strange bikes and their strange riders stop in front of him, seemingly surprised by what they found. What the hell were they anyway? He’d never seen anything like them before in his life! The smallest of the three got off of the middle bike and held up hands to show that there were no weapons. To his surprise, the biker turned out to be a female! He was no stranger to female fighters, but she was so small, at least compared to him. And the way she was dressed! He couldn’t understand how her male companions kept so calm around her when she practically oozed sensuality.
************
Blade approached the strange tomcat slowly, not wanting to set him off. He stood probably somewhere near Throttle’s height and was well built, his blue flight suit showing off his physique nicely. The mask covering half his face to hide his identity made Blade wonder what he did wherever he was from.
Smiling slightly, she stopped about three feet from him, “Look, I don’t know if you can understand me, but you’re obviously not from around here. Maybe my friends and I can help you.”
He cocked his ears, listening carefully, but shook his head in disappointment. He watched her sigh, then remove her helmet. He stared at her face, it almost looked…feline.
“Man, I wish I could understand what you’re saying. You don’t seem like a bad…person.”
He almost fell in surprise when her ears, odd as they were, moved like his would to listen to what he was saying. There was a look of deep concentration on her face before she spoke again.
“Is this…any better?”
A grin came to his face, “Yes! I understand what you said! But how…?”
She waved it off, “It’s not important right now. How did you and your friends end up here?”
“I’m not sure. Professor Hackle was showing us his new invention when there was a blinding light and I woke up here. Razor would understand…Kats Alive! My partner Razor is missing!” He looked at her almost frantic.
“Calm down, we’ll help you find him. So Razor is your partner, who are you?”
“Oh, right. I’m T-Bone, a SwatKat. The blond haired she-kat is Deputy Mayor Briggs. The big tom is Commander Feral and the other she-kat is his niece, Lt. Felina Feral.”
Blade nodded, “I’m Blade, the gray furred mouse is Modo and the white one is my brother Vinnie.”
T-Bone nodded back, though was a little confused. Mouse? What the hell was a mouse? A groan from behind him caused both T-Bone and Blade to look sharply at his companions. Feral was coming to, groaning in pain as he got to his feet slowly. Seeing T-Bone talking to the strange girl and her companions behind her, he immediately drew his weapon, prepared for a fight. Blade raised an eyebrow above her shades, but remembered that T-Bone had intro’d him as “Commander” Feral. This cat was about Modo’s height, if not taller and equally as built. He had “military” written all over him.
He’ll probably get along great with Stoker. I don’t think this guy knows how to crack a smile.
T-Bone spoke quickly to the Commander, the large cat’s face turning from anger to disbelief. Blade smiled sweetly, trying to appear harmless. Growling slightly, Feral turned to help his niece to her feet, the she-kat having just woken up. T-Bone assisted Callie, the Deputy Mayor looking about confused. Blade gave Vin and Modo a thumbs up to let them everything was good before turning back to the cats.
“Look T-Bone, you’d better come with us. It isn’t safe here.”
T-Bone looked concerned, “You have a lot of crime on your planet?”
Blade looked a little uncomfortable at that statement, “This…isn’t our planet, T-Bone. We’re strangers here as much as you are.”
************
T-Bone looked around the garage Blade and her friends had brought them to. It reminded him of home, which made him think of Razor.
You better be ok, buddy. I couldn’t stand the thought of losing you.
The cats looked at the mice and human a bit nervously. The only one who understood them was currently immersed in a little project. It brought a smile to T-Bone’s face. This girl, Blade, kinda reminded him of his partner. They both even used edged weapons as code names. He was pretty sure her real name wasn’t Blade and he was equally sure she knew his real name wasn’t T-Bone. Blade stood up from the bench, looking triumphant.
“Here, these should make things easier for you,” she stated, handing the four cats what looked like hearing aides, “If you put these in your ears, no matter what someone says to you, you’ll be able to understand and it allows us to understand you.”
T-Bone gave the mouse girl a huge grin before placing the small object in to his ear. Feral and the two she-kats did the same, looking a bit apprehensive. Blade nodded to Vin, who nodded back.
“Can you understand me?”
Callie looked at him in awe, “I can! I understood perfectly!”
Vin grinned, “I understood you loud and clear, Sweetheart.”
Feral tried not to look too impressed, “So we can understand each other. Maybe you can tell us where in Kat’s name we are!”
Blade looked up at him from the laptop she had seated herself at, then glanced back down, “You’re on a planet called Earth. The highest form of life here are the Humans,” she pointed at Charley with her tail, “The rest of us are Martians, our planet is next to this one. Modo and Vin crashed landed here, Stoker came for a visit, and I was called in for a job. A friend of ours was kidnapped recently and we’re hoping to find him. What about you guys?”
T-Bone looked at the gathered Martians and Human, “Well, we’re Kats. Our planet is called Felin, I don’t know exactly how far we are from it, we don’t have space travel. My partner, Razor, is missing though, we need to find him.”
“I’m working on it T-Bone. But I can tell ya this, you guys are a long way from home. Your galaxy lies well beyond that of Pisces and that’s about a year or more away using warp engines.”
The four Kats looked at her, shocked. They were over a year’s worth of travel away from their planet? It didn’t seem possible. Felina looked over Blade’s shoulder, curious.
“What are you doing anyway?”
“Our scanner picked up your transporter energy. I’m seeing if there were five bodies in it or four.”
“What would that accomplish?”
T-Bone swallowed nervously, “It means that if it only registers four, Razor was lost before we ever landed here.”
Blade looked up at him, “Well, yes and no. Transporters don’t normally lose people per say, it just means that he got transported to another place. My guess is that you guys got pulled in because of the machine your Professor Hackle made and Limburger here was using the transporter and elsewhere someone else was using one. I can ask a couple of friends of mine to keep a look out for him, just give me a description.”
Nodding, albeit it a little reluctantly, T-Bone gave the red head Razor’s description. Callie looked around, unhappy and scared.
“What are we suppose to do? We don’t know how to get back home and you don’t know either, do you?”
“No, I’m afraid not. I’m gonna let my Guild know of your situation. Someone has to know how to get there. In the meantime, I’m afraid you guys are gonna have to make do here.”
“Well that’s just great! That means that idiot Steele will be head of my Enforcers since I’m not there!”
“I’m not exactly happy either, Feral. I have to stay in disguise the whole time!”
Felina looked at T-Bone, “Couldn’t…couldn’t you and Uncle come to a truce? It’s not right that you have to remain in your SwatKat get up the whole time we’re here, who knows how long that’ll be!”
Feral sighed, looking at T-Bone, “Felina’s right. Think we can call a truce?”
T-Bone looked at the out-stretched hand, “I suppose, but no going after me and my partner when we get back home!”
“Fine,” the two shook hands, still glaring a bit.
Reaching up, T-Bone removed his helmet, then the mask that hid his identity. The three Kats gasped in shock while the others looked on in interest. Callie was the first one to speak.
“I don’t believe it…Chance?!”
************
Razor blinked his eyes open slowly, the dark room confusing him. Sitting up, the confused Kat took stock of his situation. Cell-like room, poor lighting, lock on door. He was someone’s prisoner. But who had him? The Metallikats? Dark Kat? Dr. Viper? There were too many who could have him. Groaning softly, the Swatkat got to his feet to take a better look. Something wasn’t right, the scents were all wrong. He could tell there was someone next to him in another cell, but who he didn’t know. It wasn’t T-Bone, that much he knew.
T-Bone…Man I hope you’re ok, wherever you are.
Razor could hear voices on the other side of the door, but he didn’t know what they were saying. It sounded like another language. Whoever they belonged to, they were getting closer. The chocolate colored tabby backed up, noticing that he was unarmed. Not that being weaponless ever stopped him. He listened as the lock turned, the door slowly creaking open. Standing in the doorway was a strange creature, one that made Razor stare in shock. He stood about six foot, six inches, taller than him by quite a bit.
Well, the bigger they are, the harder they fall!
With a yell, Razor launched himself at the stranger, his foot aimed at his captor’s head. His yell turned in to a strangled cry of surprise and pain when he was grabbed around the ankle and thrown to the ground. Holding back tears of pain and frustration, he glared up at the…alien was the word that came to mind. Definitely not his kind that was for sure. The alien towered over him, laughing harshly before grabbing Razor by the neck. The Kat struggled in the vice-like grip, well and truly afraid for the first time.
************
Damian held the strange alien tightly, enjoying his frantic struggles. He was going to love breaking him down before the real fun began. He loosened his grip a bit, but didn’t release Razor, instead turning and carrying him down the hall. Damian stopped at a door and opened it quickly, then locked it before turning to the room at large. Razor looked around quickly, seeing if there was anything he could use as a weapon. His eyes widened in surprise and horror. The only furniture in the room was an enormous bed with shackles and manacles attached to it.
No! He…he can’t be serious! He’s not gonna do what I think he’s going to?!
Damian brought Razor to the bed and snapped one of the manacles around the Kat’s neck. Grinning, the devious Martian ripped the flight suit off of Razor, then removed the helmet and mask from his head. The Kat tried to keep himself from shaking in fear as he sat, nude, on the bed, his amber eyes never leaving Damian. He smiled, cruelly down at Razor, removing his own clothes. Razor tried to back away from him, but the chain around his neck kept his movements restricted. Grinning, Damian ran his hands down the Kat’s trim body, extending his small gift of empathy. Razor found himself warming up to the other man’s touch, arching up for more contact.
What is wrong with me?! Why am I responding like this? How can I betray Chance like this?
Razor fought with his thoughts as his traitorous body ached for more of Damian’s touch. The Martian Doctor grinned at Razor’s moans of desire, the Kat thrusting in to his hand as he gripped his cock. His smile became, if possible, colder as he flipped the heated tom over and thrust in to his tight opening with out warning. Razor screamed at the agonizing pain that now engulfed his lower regions. Without missing a beat, Damian started pumping hard in to Razor, edging the pain away, but not enough for the poor Kat to forget. His claws dug holes in the mattress as he felt his body getting close to release.
He’s raping me! And I’m enjoying it!! What the hell is wrong with me?!?!
Razor let out a smothered yowl, tears coming to his eyes as he released on to the bed. Damian gripped the slender hips hard and buried himself deep, filling the Kat below him. Razor didn’t look up as he felt the other remove himself and release his hips. If anything, his tears flowed more freely as the feeling of liquid seeped down his thighs.
Chance, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to give myself away like this!
************
Chance made his way to the roof of, ironically, the Last Chance Garage. The roof seemed to be the only place to get some peace and quiet. After revealing who he really was, he was bombarded with questions, namely from Feral. Wanting to know where their weapons came from, their jet, and more importantly, where they hid them all. Chance grinned, remembering Feral’s face when he told him that everything they used to become the Swatkats was in the junkyard, even a practically ready base in the form of an old war bunker. Moving with silent grace, the golden furred tom opened the roof hatch and stepped out, unconsciously looking around for trouble. What he found was the Martian girl, Blade. Not the trouble he was looking for, but trouble in her own way it seemed. Blade glanced up at Chance as he sat across from her, taking a long drag off her cigarette.
“Got tired of twenty questions?”
Chance chuckled, “Yeah, it got old real fast. How come you’re up here?”
Blade held up her cigarette, “My smoking habit seems to offend everyone, despite the fact that these cigarettes aren’t harmful like human ones.”
He nodded, looking out over the city before glancing back at Blade, “I know this is going to seem random but, what is your real name? I’m just curious.”
Blade laughed, a rather hearty sound coming from someone so small, “Jadelyn Windseeker is my real name. Knew Blade wasn’t my name, huh?”
“Yeah, I kinda figured it wasn’t. Jake said we needed names that sounded tough and dangerous, that’s how we chose ours.”
“Jake being your missing partner Razor? Martians choose use names when we turn thirteen. It’s a rather ancient tradition dating way back. Some choose names that fit their personality or body form. Modo’s real name is Christopher, he wanted his name because it means formed. My missing friend chose Throttle because he thinks fast and is able to shift his mental gears, so to speak.”
“Ah, I see. So what about you and Vinnie?”
“Vin’s real name is Malcolm Vincent VanWham, he hates his first name, but loved his middle name so much it became his use name. I…really didn’t get a choice in the matter. It was chosen for me by a rather dangerous man. A blade can take on many forms: a sword, a knife, a scythe, anything. It’s just a weapon.”
Chance blinked at Jade, her words slowly sinking in. Thinking, the tom looked up at the stars a moment before choosing his words carefully, “You know, a blade is more than just a weapon, it’s also a tool. Don’t doctors use blades for surgeries?” Seeing Jade nod, he continued, “And a blade can defend as well as harm. If anything, I would consider a blade not a weapon, but an instrument that plays many tunes.”
Jade smiled at Chance, a truly heartfelt smile, “Thanks Chance. Sometimes I lose perspective on myself and it makes me depressed. I think your definition is much better than mine. And more accurate.”
Chance and Jade sat there in silence after that, enjoying the cold March night after the stifling heat of the garage. Both jumped to their feet when the sounds of arguing came from below. Years of training had them down the stairs and ready to face danger in less than a minute. Shock kept them from falling on the floor in a fit of laughter. Mid, for some reason unknown, had become moodier than normal and the remaining males, minus Modo, had begun teasing her about it. Emotions already stressed to the limit broke and Mid lashed out at the two Martians and Kat, backing them in to a corner where they stood shaking in their boots, literally. Choking down her laughter and enjoyment at seeing her father so shaken, Jade approached the enraged Midnight.
“Hey Mid, calm down. I think they got the message.”
Throwing one more glare at the terrorized males, Midnight turned to Jade, “I don’t know what came over me. It’s like everything affects me. I watch a commercial I wanna cry. I watch a horror movie and I laugh. What’s wrong with me?”
Jade’s eyes went wide. What Mid was describing…she couldn’t be, could she?
“Um, Mid, maybe we should talk about this later, in private? There’s some things I wanna ask ya, but not with an audience.”
“Yeah, I can do that. In the meantime,” her gaze went back to the three in the corner, “I suggest you guys leave me alone or else!”
Chance chuckled, coming up behind Jade, “That had to be the best sight I’ve ever seen. Too bad I didn’t have a camera. Your friend, Midnight, are you thinking she’s…?”
Jade turned to look at him, “How do you…?”
“My sisters, I have several.”
“I see. Yeah, I really do think she might be pregnant.”
************
Jake laid curled up in his cell, crying softly. A week. He’d been there a week and he was raped nearly twice a day. Never in all his life had he felt so miserable and beaten. The screaming from somewhere down the hall made him cringe. It wasn’t coming from the direction of the bedroom. It sounded like it was coming from the other direction, the labs. Jake shuddered, fear deep in the pit of his stomach. That was one place he did not want to go and yet, he knew he was going to end up there. Finally the screaming stopped, the chocolate furred tom listened as the other captive was brought down the hall and placed in the cell next to his. As of yet he hadn’t met him, but he knew he was the same creature as his Rapist, the scents were similar. Jake stared at the door to his cell as the sound of locks turning came to his ears. The door creaked open to show two creatures similar to his tormentor, but something about them made him think of the Creeplings who served Dark Kat. He hissed weakly at them instinctively, but it didn’t do anything to sway the creatures. They grabbed Razor and hauled him to his feet, dragging the tormented kat out of the cell and down the hall. He held back tears as he saw where they were taking him. The lab. He knew his time was up.
************
Jade sighed, massaging her temples. She really did NOT want to approach Mid, but she didn’t have much of a choice. Mid needed to know that she was pregnant so that she could take care of herself.
And I’m sure as hell not going to reveal how I know without using a test!
Midnight’s mood swings were often unpredictable and sometimes violent. No one wanted to be on the receiving end of her razor tipped tongue, but Jade figured she’d been through worse, so what the hell? Jade actually found Mid in a quiet moment as she was putting Crystal to bed. For a moment Jade’s heart twisted, thinking of Justin. But he was better off on Hellraiser Isle, where he could meet the rest of the family. Her Aunt Irisa even thought she might be able to surgically remove the wings. She waited in the hallway for Mid to finish tucking Crystal in. The dark furred girl smiled at Jade when she came out of the room.
“Hey Jade, what’s up?”
“Look Mid, I know you don’t want to consider that you might be pregnant, but I really think you should at least do the pregnancy test, just to rule it out.”
Mid closed her eyes, sighing, “Fine. I’ll do the stupid test just so you’ll get off my case. I think I’d KNOW if I was pregnant.”
Jade rolled her eyes while Mid took the test in to the bathroom. The red haired Martian stood outside the door, waiting for the results. It didn’t take long.
“VINNIE! I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!”
